Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Replacement Sway Control Tab for Weight Distribution System

Hello, friends and neighbors. Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this replacement sway control tab for your weight distribution system. Now folks, this will replace the sway control mounting bar for your weight distribution system and it is a well-known application. We highly recommend you get it welded on by a professional, but if you're a DIYer and you know how to weld, go ahead and feel free to tackle it yourself. Now, just in case you're curious, this side over here gets welded on to the ball mount and it does fit the commonly one-on-one quarter inch sway-control little ball there.

Now, as far as some dimensions with this guy, I'm getting four and seven-eighths overall for a length. I was getting right at one and 15 16th of an inch. We can call it two inches if you want, and I was getting about seven-16th so a half inch depending on what you're looking at there. Now the hole again is a five-eighth inch hole. That's kind of a standard size for those little weight distribution balls.

Again, folks, simple weld-on replacement tab. I'm Steven, thanks for watching and have a great day.

We ordered 3 Kenda S-Trail 145/12 tires for our pop-up, along with Reese friction sway control, sway control tab, and a Camco step cover. The order arrived quickly, was complete, and was packed well. We've dealt with etrailer before and this is their usual excellent service. Now to get the tires put on and we'll see how we like them!

Worked well with curt sway ball hitch on my old EZ Sway sway bar.

Simple tab for adding sway control to a hitch. Keep in mind you need to beable to weld this type of steel or know a welder that can do it properly. etrailer made it simple and cost effective to order.

Same issue....Could be better not a very square cut...I put a square on it and has a small angle ...I will grind a little off to make it true to mate up to my hitch before I weld it on.....thanks

  • How to Add Sway Control to an E2 E2rb0710 Weight Distribution System
Hey Neil, thanks for reaching out! According to my research your E2 system just has weight distribution and no sway control so I recommend welding the Tab # 3442 on your weight distribution head and then adding the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 to add that sway control. We have some weight distribution options that include sway control if you'd like to go that route. Just let me know what the GVWR is for your trailer and I'd be more than happy to make a recommendation for you!

  • Can RP26003 Sway Control Plate Be Used on Left Side of Ball Mount
I do have an option that will allow you to use a sway control bar on the left side of a ball mount, however, the Reese Sway Control adapter plate # RP26003 is designed to be used on the right side only. To be used on the left side, this plate would have to be turned upside down and the lip on the bottom of the plate would not allow the hitch ball to be completely tightened to the plate and the lip would interfere with the operation of the sway control bar. To use a sway control bar on...

  • How is Draw-Tite 3442 Sway Control Tab Attached to Ball Mount
The # 3442 replacement sway control tab would be welded onto the side of a ball mount, and the 1-1/4 inch diameter trailer ball would mount in the 5/8 inch diameter hole in the tab. If a ball mount with a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop would work, Curt offers the # D320 with the tab already welded in place.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution And Sway Control On Wells Cargo Motorcycle Trailer
For your Wells Cargo Motorcycle trailer, you can use either sway control or weight distribution with sway control. If you want only sway control, I recommend the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit - Economy - by Draw-Tite, Reese and Hidden Hitch, # 83660 can be used with the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts - Class III and IV, # RP26003. This system uses a friction to stop sway once it starts. This may be enough for your system depending on the cross winds. Two can be mounted,...

  • How Many Friction Sway Control Units Should Sonic Venture SN231VRK Use
The exterior length of your Sonic Venture SN231VRK is 26-1/2 feet which is just over the length where a second friction sway control system is recommended of 26 feet. So your best option would be to install a second # 83660. Typically, to add a second sway-control bracket to their WD hitch, the Draw-Tite Sway Control Tab, part # 3442 is welded on to the head of the system, giving an additional mount for the sway control ball. You'd then remove the inner section of the # 83660, rotate...

Typically, to add a second sway-control bracket to their WD hitch, the Draw-Tite Sway Control Tab, part # 3442 is welded on to the head of the system, giving an additional mount for the sway control ball as you asked about. If you happen to be just using a standard ball mount on your trailer this tab would work for that as well. You can then add the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, part # 83660 which has the ball included and can be used in the # 3442 tab. You'd just need to remove the...

  • Solution for Using Sway Control When Ball Mounts with Tab Don't have Correct Rise/Drop
Hey Nicolle, in a situation like this where the ball mount options available don't have a sway control tab bracket on the side of them what you would need to do is weld on a bracket like with the part # 3442 to a ball mount that does have the correct rise/drop like it sounds like you have currently.

  • Ball Mount Options that Have Sway Control Ball Mounting Tab
Some draw bars will have the sway bar ball attachment mounted to the side of the ball mount platform like the Curt Ball Mount part # D320. Or you can have the tab welded to the side of the platform with part # 3442. We also have an adjustable ball mount part # 7390 which allows for various drop/rise settings and has the platform for the sway control ball. With any...

  • Recommended Sway Control for Towing with a 2018 Audi Q7
To add sway control to your 2018 Audi Q7 towing setup I highly recommend the Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control # 335TSC-1000. I really like this unit because it activates the brakes on your trailer (per side as needed) when it senses the trailer start to sway. Not full-on braking, but light stops so it brings the trailer back under control. This is a higher-end setup but it does install permanently on the trailer and comes with an easy-to-read troubleshooting light in case any of the wiring...

For a sway bar that will work nicely on the camper you are looking to purchase I recommend the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660. Since your camper will be longer than 26 feet it is recommended to use two friction sway control bars so you will want to order two of these kits. This unit uses tension/friction to fight against trailer sway that is caused by winds, winding roads, or sudden maneuvers. It simply attaches to either side of the trailer tongue and the ball mount on your...

  • Is There a Way to Use Friction Sway Control with a Ball Mount that Fits a 2-1/2 inch Hitch
Since vehicles that have 2-1/2 inch hitches don't normally use friction sway control as it's not normally needed there aren't any brackets for the smaller balls of the units that are setup for that hitch size but I do have a solution Mehdi. What you would want is the weld on bracket part # 3442 which you would need to have welded to the side of your ball mount and you'd be able to use a friction sway control.

  • Adding a Bar-Style Friction Sway Control Tab to a Ball Mount
The sway control brackets such as # RP26003 are going to have a 1 inch diameter ball hole like you said.
