Multiple Stacked Receivers for Easy Adjustment

stacked receivers

This unique mount from Gen-Y Hitch includes a ball mount that can be easily positioned in one of the 6 stacked receivers that sits along the vertical shank of the unit. This dual-ball mount lets you tow a trailer with a 2" ball coupler or a 2-5/16" ball coupler.

pintle hitch

Also included is a pintle lock, which can be inserted into the receiver directly above the ball mount to create a pintle hitch for hooking up a trailer with a lunette ring. Unlike other adjustable pintle hooks on the market, there are no nuts and bolts to remove and retorque when you change the positioning of this hitch. Just move the ball mount and pintle lock up or down to get the proper height and secure them in place with the included pins.

With the 6 stacked receivers, not only do you have the ability to adjust the height of the included ball mount, but you also have the ability to add various other hitch-mounted accessories. Insert a bike rack or cargo carrier. Mount a spare tire carrier. Use a tow bar to flat tow your vehicle. Or just add a fun hitch cover. This heavy-duty mount is built with a 1,500-lb tongue weight, so you can even use multiple hitch accessories at the same time, as long as there are no clearance issues. This means that you can use your hitch-mounted bike rack to haul your bikes while also flat towing your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Gen-Y Stacked Receivers Adjustable 2-Ball Mount Review

Hi, everyone. Aiden here at "etrailer." Today we're gonna be taking a look at this Gen Y adjustable ball mount for two inch hitches. These come in a variety of different drop sizes which we'll talk about in this video. They all function the same way and they'll all work with your two inch hitches. Let's check it out. Now, first things first here we are gonna have two different options in terms of which ball we can use.

There's a two inch ball right here but we can easily remove the pin and clip, flip this around to the two and five sixteenths inch ball and use that to hook up to our trailers. So if we have multiple trailers we're towing and we often need to switch between these two different sizes, then we've got that option here built right in. The other option we have here with the second pin clip is the pin-to-lock attachment. Just unpin it. Drop your lunette ring trailer over the top, bring that out and re-pin it, and now we can tow that type of trailer, too.

If you've got multiple different trailer types and one of them happens to be a lunette ring trailer you can use it with this ball mount. Regardless of how we're using this though we are going to have the same 10,000 pound gross trailer weight rating and 1500 pound tongue weight rating. As for the height adjustment we have here this particular version that we've got in our hitch today is a five inch drop or a five inch rise. There's multiple different sizes of these. This is the shortest drop that we have available and the largest one is up to a 15 inch drop.

Again, all of those can be flipped around to the rise position by completely removing it from the hitch and flipping the whole thing upside down and getting that amount of rise. So you've got a lot of options there. There's one minor variation of this five inch drop that has an extra receiver tube stacked on top. So if you find yourself needing to frequently switch between a small rise and a somewhat larger drop or vice versa, you can check out that version. It's gonna again, function the same way with the stack receivers and the weight capacities but that one just has an extra receiver up top so you don't have to flip the whole thing around your hitch every time you need a little bit of rise.

Flipping this around in the hitch we will need to get the hitch pin removed which it doesn't come with. I would strongly recommend a locking hitch pin if you're gonna go that route. Etrailer makes a great one that threads in. It's easy to use, but then to flip it around all they gotta do is take it out the hitch, flip the whole thing around, reinsert it and then re-pin it. (metal clanking) Now as I take this out of the hitch to flip it back around you will probably notice that there's two hitchpin holes here to choose from. They're gonna be spaced one inch apart and if we want to, we can use this outer one to get us a little extra clearance from our vehicle. Now, for the purposes of this video we're gonna be taking our measurements from the innermost hole and giving you those references there. If you intend on using it in that outer position, just add an inch. Some measurements in this position we wanna check out. We're gonna go from the center of the hitchpin hole to the center of the ball itself to see where your trailer's gonna hook up and that's gonna be 11 and five eighths of an inch. From that same point to the very outer edge of the ball mount, that's going to be 13 inches. So that's how much it's gonna stick out whenever you've got it in your vehicle but there is a storage position here. With it in the drop position, we can unpin this and actually flip the whole assembly backwards like this and re-pin it into the stacked receivers here to cut down on that distance by quite a bit so it doesn't stick out near as far from your hitch now. Taking that distance added all the way down to eight and five eighths of an inch to this outer face right here. Now both the ball and the pin-to-lock here have a black powder coat finish on there. That's gonna help resist rust and corrosion over time although it doesn't make it immune. If it does get scratched up and scuffed you might notice that, but it will help. And then the main assembly itself has a zinc primer with this textured powder coat finish which gives it a really unique and cool look but it does help with durability quite a bit and seems to do a little bit better than just a standard powder coat. Now, one bonus to the stacked receiver design here is although it makes for a very intuitive height adjustment it can also accept other accessories. So if we have our ball mount in here most of the time, but on occasion maybe you need to throw a bike rack in here we have that option because this is a standard two inch by two inch receiver tube and it uses standard five eighth inch diameter pinholes. So if you've got those accessories and you want to use 'em but you don't wanna take out the ball mount then you've got that option. Now when it comes to adjustable ball mounts you've got a lot of options out there ranging from the really entry level options all the way up to the really high end ones. If you're looking for something that isn't going to be just the bare bones and has some extra features like those stack receivers we can use for other accessories or coming with the pin-to-lock attachment right out of the box, or just something that has really high quality build and solid construction then I think this option from Gen Y is really the way to go. Whether you've got a stock truck or a lifted one and you need a really aggressive drop, you can probably find the right one to fit you and your trailer, and regardless of which one you go with I think it's gonna last for a very long time. But that'll do it for our look at these two inch adjustable ball mounts from Gen Y. Thanks for watching.

This is the best hitch I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned quite a few. It’s easy to use and looks awesome too.

Beside dropping it on my foot it looks great

I wanted to be able to tow any trailer with a single hitch and that is why I purchased this model. Any size ball and pintle hitch all in one implement is great.... the drawback, this thing weights a lot. I don't like leaving the hitch on the truck if I'm not towing, but this thing is too heavy to move and I'm worried about this much weight bending the toolbox on the truck if I hit a bump.

For measurement purposes... This is a 2000 F-350 4x4 on stock 16" rims and tires and a CM flatbed. I got the 5" drop\rise model and it looks like it is going to be great. In case i need it, I added the 1 7/8" ball to the drawbar. When I can afford to get three matched key pins I will order them.

by:

Overall the hitch is heavy duty and solid. I have ready some reviews about the Pintle option and have used mine for the first time towing an empty trailer. It is showing some wear behind the ball where the wedge is welded. I will try it with a load and see how it holds up.
i hate to give a negative review but for the money it should not have that excessive amount of wear with it’s first use.
I have a curt hitch with the Pintle and it has worked perfectly. I was looking for something that had a better curb appeal with the Gen Y.

by:

Just received my new hitch and my first impressions is that this is a very stout hitch. The hitch is very heavy, so I won’t be taking it off and on much. I’ll leave the stacked receiver on the truck, I had a locking pin to secure it to the truck. I will store the 2-ball mount in the cab for now until I get some locking pins. Don’t want to become a victim of theft! When I obtain the locking pins, I will leave the balls attached. If you want a very stout adjustable hitch, I definitely recommend this Gen-Y hitch. Can’t wait to test it out on the road!

by:

best hitch I've owned. I have no doubt it will pull any of our equipment with no problem. odelelia was a big help and so nice when I ordered it a year ago.

by:

Heavy duty, strong and reliable. The black color on the ball scratched off fairly quickly, and the additional length of the hitch may keep some safety chains from reaching the vehicle. These are just things I noticed, but the quality of the hitch is tremendous.

by:

It’s heavy duty. I think it weighs as much as my equalizer hitch. I just got a new truck so we’ll see on a hitch height but on my old truck I wish I’d gotten the hitch with one height up so I had more adjustment and so it’s off hitting the ground. Oh well I tried guessing. I should of listened to the spirit. But a great heavy duty hitch.

by:

This is a very functional and versatile hitch. Incidentally, the extended horizontal length allows me to drop my tailgate and not hit my trailer jack. The only theoretical downside is the increased torque on the receiver because of the horizontal extension inherent with the hitch design, as well as the massive weight. these issues do not seem to be functionally relevant however. Pintle may come in handy someday. I would buy again.

by:

We love these hitches so much we’re replacing all we have in the fleet with the Gen-Y. Etrailer’s customer service is the reason we don’t shop anywhere else.

by:

It's a great hitch. Fits our needs. Only negative thing I can say is the paint/coating rubbed off almost immediately after putting it to use so there's a rust ring around it where it meets the receiver.

by:

Tow hitch is 100% expensive but towing my trailers has been so smooth it’s defiantly good quality and worth what you pay , defiantly recommend buying a $10-$20 lock so nobody steals it off your truck though!

by:

WOW. That is pretty much the word that sums it up. WOW. Not only because it weighs roughly 60 pounds, but she is pretty to look at to boot. Aside from that - the construction on this thing in a monster. Overbuilt by Hercules to pull down a mountain kind of over built. Exactly how we expect anything truck related to be. You do not want failure at any point, ever. This takes your drop hitch to a whole new level. I have owned B&W and Bulletproof before - and while there is nothing wrong with them - I do not think I will ever use another brand again. This is as good as they come.

by:

Another great purchase with etrailer. Fastest shipping and the same price as the lowest competitor.

by:

I used adjustable ball mount to haul a tow dolly and also carry a hitch haul with wood. It worked great.

by:

I just installed the Gen-Y and its way better than my last one (much more stout). I put it on a 2011 f350 with a leveling kit on 35s and Im defiantly glad that I got one with the 7 inch drop. Im also going to be putting it on a Kubota M-120 to pull a 12ft box scraper.

by:

Bought this product from etrailer and was amazed at the high level of customer service and knowledge. The product arrived ahead of schedule and was packaged well. This product is made well and I’m glad it’s a product of the USA.

by:

No doubt it's "mega duty". Thing weighs 54 lbs. I don't know if its worth the money but I'd say its probably the best hitch you could get!

by:

After two failed attempts and three weeks lost trying to buy same hitch on [online] n, same hitch from etrailer was ordered on Thursday and delivered on Saturday. Same hitch same price. The status updates were clear, uo to minute and never once saw a "lost in transit" once. `The hitch itself was a snug fit on my ram 2500 and I guess that's not a bad thing but its in and I have no doubts it will do the job.

by:

So far it’s worked great. I have several different style trailers I pull daily and it’s great that I don’t have to change out hitches every time I have to pull a different trailer.

by:

Great unit

by:

Heavy duty, high quality, delivered on time as promised. Thanks e-trailer.

by:

Great receiver
The drop was perfect for
motorhome to tow our car. I have 13,000 miles of towing with it and not one issue.
Would definitely buy it again.

For the height off the ground we measure from the top inside of the receiver tube to the ground. Then for a ball mount it sounds like you have an 8 inch rise which isn't quite tall enough. We have a couple of taller fixed mount options in the Draw-Tite Ball Mount - 9-3/4" Rise # 80248 and the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 10-3/4" Rise # AMSC12 but that still won't get you to the exact height needed. The Convert-A-Ball option will get you close enough to be safe but the trailer...
