Aluminum and steel alloy construction is durable and eco-friendly. Powder coat finish resists rust.Hitch arrived pretty quickly! Product looks to be of high quality. Welds look good, powder coat looks good. Very solid. Will install it this weekend. Shipping packaging wasn’t so great. Box arrived heavily damaged (not etrailer’s fault) and the hitch wasn’t really secured all that well inside the box given its weight. Luckily the hitch was not damaged.
The hitch itself seems very heavy duty, nice welds with a good finish. I only plan to use this for a bike rack, so it is far stronger than I will ever need.
The installation video is exceptional with a couple very minor differences which may be due to different trim levels between my car and the one in the video. There is a wiring harness in the bumper fascia that is clipped to the car frame above the driver-side tail pipe and those clips need to be removed to get the fascia off. Also, I did not need to modify the heat shield as was done in the video.
Overall, it took about 3 hours to do the install and I've never done anything like this before.
The reason for the deduction of 1 star is due to the washers that are provided are not compatible with high or even medium torque applications. The washers deformed as if they were made of plastic. Instead, I used the factory hardware with a bit of blue Loctite.
Finally installed this on my 2019 SQ5 today, after months of it sitting in the garage. A couple of notes, the factory bumper bar can be re-used. I needed to trim the inner upper sheet metal of the factory bar with a cutoff wheel so that it would fit properly. Also, the fasteners supplied with the the kit are junk, the washers are too think and too small of a diameter. I was able to re-use the factory hardware which has a much better washer head design and is also grade 10.9 (same as inlcluded bolts.
Also can confirm that the SQ5 bumper does not need to be trimmed, but I discovered this after trimming it a bit sadly. I did the install by myself, having a helper when re-fitting the bumper cover would have made this a lot easier and negated the need for trimming.
Great hitch. Easy install and exactly as advertised. This was installed on a 2018 Audi SQ5.
