Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Mazda 3

Today on our 2018 Mazda 3, you're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to show you how to install, the Draw-Tite Class I Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. You can see, the cross tube is tucked up right next to the bottom of the bumper fascia. It's not going to stick out too far. We're not going to have to worry about hitting our legs, or our shins on it when we're loading and unloading the back of the vehicle, and it maintains a nice clean look. It fits very well with this vehicle. This is going to be a class one hitch, inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver tube opening.

Hitch pin hole is going to be half inch in diameter. The hitch pin clip does not come with this hitch, however, it can be found here at etrailer.com. We're going to have rolled steel style safety chain loops to give us plenty of room for different size safety chain hooks. This hitch is going to be great for any of your hitch mounted accessories, like your bike racks and cargo carriers. As far as our weight capacities go, we're going to have a 200 pound max tongue, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube, and a 2,000 pound max gross trailer weight, which is the trailer plus the load included. I do recommend checking the owner's manual of your vehicle to make sure the vehicle can withstand that amount of weight and you're going to pick the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch.

This hitch is going to have a nice black powder coat finish that's really going to resist any rust or corrosion. Now, let me give you a few measurements to help you when deciding on any hitch mounted accessories you may need. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most part of the bumper is going to be about two and a half inches. From the ground to the top inner most part of the receiver tube is going to be about 11 and a quarter inches. It's a good idea to get a raised shank for better ground clearance. Now, let's show you how to get this installed. To start our installation, we're going to need to lower our exhaust.

Before doing that, we need to make sure our exhaust is supported. I'm going to use a strap. I like to hang it from each spring. You can, pretty much, hang it anywhere that's solid. The springs are usually easy to get to.

I'm just going to pull it up tight against the bottom of our pipe, there. We're going to take a lubricant, it can be soapy water, usually works well. You're going to spray the rubber hanger on each side of the vehicle. You're actually going to have four of them. You're going to have two on each side. Now we're going to take a pry bar and we're going to start working that rubber hammer off. Then we're going to repeat that same thing for the other three. Once you've got all four hangers removed, go ahead and lower our exhaust a little bit, to give us a little extra room to work. Take a utility knife, we're going to pull of this tape, here. It's going to expose that weld nut. We're going to do this on both sides of the vehicle. What I do recommend is, if you have anything, like this, this stuff, make sure you shave this down, so when our hitch is sitting up there, it's sitting flush against our frame. Now we're going to take out pull wire, we're going to go into this last hole, come out this hole. Take a spacer block, carriage bolt, put the carriage bolt inside the spacer block, and we're going to thread it into our pull wire. Press your spacer block up into the frame, then pull. We're going to do that same thing on the other side. Now we'll get our hitch into position. It is going to make it a little bit easier with an extra set of hands. We're going to put our wires through the corresponding holes in the hitch. We're going to raise it up over our exhaust, then go ahead and put hex bolt with a conical tooth washer. You want to make sure the teeth are facing towards the hitch. We're going to get one into our weld nut on each side to help hold our hitch into place, while we install our remaining hardware.Once we get that one in, on each side, we can remove our pull wire. We're going to add a conical tooth washer. Again, make sure the teeth are facing towards the hitch and a nut. Next we're going to tighten and torque our hardware to specifications on the instructions. Next you can reinstall your exhaust. Go ahead and spray down our hangers again. Once you have your exhaust hangers back up, you can remove your safety strap. That will do it for a look at, and installation, on a Draw-Tite Class I Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver on our 2018 Mazda 3.

Great purchase overall. Shipped the morning after order placed and arrived a couple days later in perfect condition. Install went smooth after watching video. Paper instructions are misleading about which frame hole to use for pull-through bolts so I had to move them. Total 2 hrs install time working alone with no lift and not hurrying. You do need to lower exhaust which took some muscle to remove from hangers. Video has good tips on how. Attached pic shows a little rust but that's fom my bike rack - the hitch finish was perfect. 628762

Bought this hitch for my daughter in law to trailer her bikes. She loves it. It was easy to install being a direct fit. Will be looking to get one for my daughter in the near future. I highly recommend etrailer. Great prices. 584852

Install was really easy. I was lucky to have a friend with a lift. The 2 of us got this installed in under 30 minutes. We only dropped one side of the exhaust and then could slide the hitch in place, with a little pulling on the underside. We did this "hot" - right after the vehicle had been driven 30minutes. Everything lined up easily. The instructions did not show how to use the threaded wire system, so it was good I had previously installed a hitch that used the threading method (find a video of a similar product and watch it - brilliant system but no plainly obvious the first time you touch it). 257612

The hitch rattles against the exhaust occasionally. Only during acceleration, warm, at about 2500RPM. I imagine I could adjust the location of the hitch a bit but I havent tried yet. Otherwise, the hitch has been working fine.

Thanks for your recent 1 year follow-up. If is not uncommon for there to be some rattling associated with the installation of a trailer hitch. There are several options that can remedy the exhaust to hitch rattling issue. Please see the helpful article that I have included for additional information.

My etrailer experience has been very positive. Before placing my order for a hitch, I had questions about the product. I received very timely answers from the knowledgable staff. I placed my order and received the hitch 1 day sooner than estimated. The easy to follow instructions allowed the hitch to be installed in less than 45 minutes. I think it could actually be done in less than 30 minutes. 148530

Hitch fits perfectly. Just put it on. Little tricky getting the back muffler mounts back on behind the hitch bar but still doable. Soap and water helps a lot. The bolt wires are a life saver. 392065

Overall a good purchase and experience from ETRAILER. The hitch arrived somewhat loosely packed and there was some minor scratches and chips. Not a deal breaker, but I think etrailer buys a pallet of these hitches and repacked them, so the fault is not on the manufacturer. It took some time to figure out which holes to fit the bolts to and getting the hitch into position is TIGHT! I ended up removing the muffler which gave me a lot more space. The real issue was the hitch was slightly bent and would not fit between the frame rails. A quick call to etrailer and they advised how to proceed, shout out to Molly S. for the help. The hitch fit great with zero interference and a quick coat of black spray covered up the minor damage. Very happy with the fit and customer experience! 557763

This hitch fit my car ('17 Mazda 3 Hatchback) perfectly. The car was apparently designed to accept a hitch which surprised me as my owners' manual says the car is not rated for towing at all. But it had bolt holes and everything ready. The videos eTrailer has helped me, especially the explanation of how to fish the carriage bolt and plate up into the frame and out the correct hole. I don't have a trailer to pull but I bought the hitch for my hitch mounted bike rack. 575581

2014 Volkswagen Passat

My third hitch from etrailer: 2000 VW Passat, 2006 Mazda 3 Sedan, now 2014 Mazda 3s GT. In all three, the plans and fit-up were excellent. For the 2014 Mazda 3s GT, I bought the 24914 Draw-tite hitch, with 3493 draw bar and 19256 ball. With the standard chrome exhaust tips, I had to lower the muffler for the hitch mounts to clear the exhaust. This was the most difficult part -- windex for lubrication and a strong grip pulled off the four rubber muffler hangars, lowering the muffler on a floor jack about 6". The hitch then fit perfectly to the mounting holes, and the part metric, part SAE hardware provided was high grade and correct. Fishing the mounting bolts through the frame members was the simplest part. Tightened nuts, raised the muffler, and then lubed and pushed on the hangars again. Done in about two hours. Four ibuprofen in anticipation of sore muscles. Nothing new. Top of the draw bar at the hitch is at 11" from the ground, putting the drawbar top at 13-1/4". I installed the 118405 wiring harness without problems, choosing to route the power wire for the switch "converter" along under the interior trim under the doors and into the interior fuse box compartment, then into the engine compartment by a single hole punctured through an existing rubber nipple just above the wiring feedthrough on the firewall. I changed the ring connector to a 1/4" ring connector to match the existing 6 mm post on the Mazda battery terminal block (thank Mazda for the ready-made posts for accessories). Works! Once again, etrailer gave me all I needed in one shipment, and everything fit as planned. No problems pulling my lightweight sailboat trailer and utility trailer. Another satisfied customer! 510110

Etrailer's website was GREAT at giving all the information needed before the purchase was made. My purpose for buying the hitch is for use with a bike rack (also bought from Etrailer). The hitch arrived on time with no problems. Installation was as easy as I expected. The instructions had indicated the muffler mount would have to be disconnected on my 2015 Mazda 3, but, to my relief, that was NOT true. With some jiggling, the hitch slid past the tailpipes. There were a few times I cursed while trying to get a bolt to go in, but that's normal for any automotive work. My daughter worked with me. It would have been a lot harder to try to hold the hitch in place with just one person, but probably not impossible. I used a torque wrench to tighten the four bolts and was glad I did. They tightened a lot more than I would have guessed had I just relied on "feel". I have no complaints about the product and service. 332018

I'm using this hitch only to carry my bike carrier for transport of my bikes, no towing. Initial order was with Amazon, they couldn't deliver, so after a couple weeks and no shipment I cancelled and ordered direct with etrailer. Even etrailer had a delayed shipping of around a week to ten days once I ordered. I can't imagine this hitch for my car is in such demand, so mostly likely a short run, not high demand item. I can't blame a business for working on the high demand, high quantity items first, if that was the case. Product fit pretty good, instructions talk about threaded nut/hole up on sides of sub-frame that is covered with tape but in my case it was covered with undercoating (new car stuff, not aftermarket) and tape. Took me 15 -20 minutes to discover where the threaded mounting hole was up on the sides of sub-frame. The muffler does make slight contact with the hitch now at various times, I'll loosen the mounting hardware on the hitch sometime and see if I can move it enough to prevent that contact. Otherwise, decent fit. I did remove my muffler and for me, working off the floor of my garage, it seemed easier, overall. I did support the single pipe coming back to my muffler while the muffler was off the car. 172834

I loosened up the four mounting bolts, used a good size hammer and a block of wood and I was able to move the hitch towards the back of my car so the muffler no longer vibrates against the hitch. Sweet! With that I give the hitch five stars now!!

I would like to start out by mentioning how awesome the folks at etrailer are. This is the 3rd Draw Tite hitch that I have bought from this company and the customer service is second to none. I ordered this hitch a few days ago after purchasing a 17 Mazda 3 GT. The hitch arrived very well protected in a big box with excellent instructions with all necessary hardware. I attempted to install the hitch by myself without dropping the exhaust. Not the best plan for me, I ended up removing the entire muffler(its just two bolts and four rubber hangers) and then I had excellent access to get to the mounting bolts. In total, I spent about two hours, but if I had to do it again, it would take less than 30 minutes. I would recommend grabbing a buddy for sure to help lift the rack into place while tightening the nuts and bolts. I have used the Thule TH990XT platform rack on two previous vehicles and will be using this one again. It fits well and holds my mountain bikes securely even at highway speeds. Thanks again to etrailer, the customer service is great and the orders always arrive very quickly! BM 379059

1 year in and no complaints! Installation was easy enough, although it took considerably longer than mentioned in the instructions. The instructions were clear and seemed well tailored to my specific car (Mazda3 hatchback). The hitch receiver has been reliable for regular use with a 2-bike Kuat hitch-mounted bike rack, used on average once a week. Overall great value! 593604

2017 Mazda 3

I'm a novice user, never had hitch rack before. I used to carry my bikes on a roof rack, or once with strap-on trunk rack. Both methods damage the car paint. This time I decided to go with hitch mounted bike rack. I have new Mazda 3 hatchback 2017. I called my Mazda dealer service department, but they said that Mazda do not provide a hitch receiver for my model. By chance, I stumbled on etrailer site and found that such receivers exist. Site is informative and has good video reviews of their products, including impressive tests footage. That assured me in quality of their products and services. Etrailer recommended to me hitch receiver model 24914. Manufacturer description and customer reviews were very helpful to assess scope of work needed to mount the receiver and how to locate hidden mounting holes. Some users would report 30 min do it yourself installation job. Named receiver was in stock and I got it in four days Ground from Mid-west to NJ. I was greatly impressed with packing job by etrailer, part was safely secured inside the shipping box resulted in no scratches on the part paint, good job shipping department! It was raining here, so assembly from the wet ground was not an option. First, I went to the local professional hitch company. They gave me quote of $74 and hour wait time, but scheduled for the next day. I stopped to get gas and noticed a free bay at gas station mechanic. I asked him to help me to mount my receiver, he was very friendly and my car went up on a lift. I immediately found hidden behind coating horizontal mounting holes, then we eased in the receiver to see an interference with exhaust box and pipes. It went in easy, no exhaust dismount was needed! :) The receiver kit had special steel wire guide wires, I threaded them to the vertical carriage bolts and mechanic in no time pulled bolts and plates into the mounting holes. All four bolts were tightened in no time. It took us 15 min to fully mount the receiver, thanks to good, informative manufacturer instruction sheet and exhaustive customer reviews, thank you reviewers! Mechanic even refused to charge me for the job, but I slipped some candy money to him anyway. The receiver has an ample clearance (~an inch) to the exhaust ( see pic), I hear no rattles while driving around. My car is snow white, I was afraid, that black receiver will clash, but installed, it is recessed and doesn't stick out at all (I only have pic with rack attached to receiver, sorry). I'm very happy with etailer services, and greatly admire ingenuity of the receiver manufacturer who figured out how to design a complex part and the product quality which fits like a glove! I attached three pictures: Two receiver attachment points on one side Clearance between receiver and left exhaust pipe Receiver with 59400 etrailer bike rack mounted 512646

I haven't used the hitch yet but I have installed it and the first thing that needs to be stated is that I did NOT have to mess with my exhaust to install this hitch. It just rolled right into place. Job one was to peal away the tape that covers the horizontal bolt hole and to remove a little of the coating in the rear corners where the arm will bind up if that extra coating isn't removed. The rest of the install went smooth as can be so I don't see much point in explaining the install further. FWIW The 1 1/4 x 2" adapter with a 4 1/2 raise PN 70355 won't fit this hitch (The stop won't allow the insert in far enough for a pin to secure the adapter.) I'll be talking to the nice folks at etrailer about how to proceed. 211087

2017 Ford Edge

Receiver fit my 2017 Mazda 3 GT perfectly. Instructions were well written, and the parts were built to the right dimension. Although the instruction says to drop the muffler, I was able to install the receiver by pushing on one edge of the bumper cover. Install time was just over one hour using hand tools and working on the garage floor (no lift). The only con is that the receiver is not as hidden as I hoped for. It would be nice if it was more recessed with a detachable hitch tube (is that what it's called?). 415432

Super fast an easy to install. My husband was injured when we received our hitch so I decided to install it so we could hook up our bike rack. He helps find the holes that were coated over the frame, but other than that I handled every part of the install. The hitch is lightweight enough that one person can handle it and once you find the holes it goes quickly. The manual is very helpful for determining where the frame holes are despite not being able to easily see them. This took me less than a half hour to install and has handled excellently over the last year holding both our bike rack and hauling our utility trailer. 467952

Good fit for the 2017 Mazda 3. Took about an hour to install but, if you have installed these before should be no more than 30 minutes. Helpful if you have a car jack or some other method of raising the car (to help with ease of install). Well integrated fit with the vehicle. My only issue with the hitch is that there is a raised dimple about 1-1.5" past the eyelet (lock-pin) inside the receiver which currently prevents/limits the types of carriers you can hook up (anything with a long adapter won't match up with the eyelet). Not sure why this is but, am looking to pick up a metal file and probably another 30 minutes or so of filing it out so there is not blockage. 431990

Comments

The 431990 is a class 1 hitch which is designed to only accept class 1 accessories. Draw-tite welds that tab in to ensure their customers only use class 1 accessories because of safety issues. Class 1 hitches have a lower weight capacity so filing down the tab and using an accessory that will allow for more weight can not only cause damage to your accessory but also the hitch. It may also void the warranty for your hitch. If you are using this hitch for a cargo carrier, I recommend Curt cargo carrier part # C18110. This curt cargo carrier is designed for class 1 hitches and can carry up to 300 lbs of cargo. It measures 47-11/16 long x 19-1/2 wide x 2-9/16 deep. If you are using this hitch for a bike rack I recommend Thule Roadway for 2 bikes part # TH912XTR. The bike rack features levers that let you fold down the arms for storage and tilt the rack away from your vehicle for cargo area access. It also includes an anti-rattle hitch pin.

Mazda Protege5

My second hitch purchased from etrailer for a Mazda hatchback (first '02 Protege5, now '15 Mazda3). Both good experiences. Very easy hitch install, the inclusion of the fish wires for the frame hanger bolts is a stroke of genius. Don't be afraid of the exhaust isolators, just spray some soapy water and support muffler with a jack or strap. If you can change a flat tire then you can work a wrench well enough to do this in an hour. '14-15 Mazda3 has a couple of things making wiring easy to integrate. There's a grommet in the left rear quarter floor that's perfectly placed. Just trim some electrical tape to allow an opening, clip the new connector near the lighting adapter & reconnect inside after fishing from outside. I ran power neatly along driver's side rocker & out through the firewall. It's both easier and less vulnerable, just fish one more wire through the mass that exits above the driver's left foot. (Just DO NOT use anything sharp, you don't want to nick any wires and short something out). Finally the battery on my car already had several open connections to use right at the positive terminal, each protected by a fusible link no less! (See photo.) All I needed to add was an M6 stainless nut to connect the new wire. Only a couple of minor downsides: Aesthetically this is one of the uglier installs, mostly because the 3's huge muffler is right against the rear valence, leaving no room to tuck anything out of sight. My Protege5's hitch was entirely hidden except for the receiver. Here, unless you're willing to butcher your bumper cover (assuming there's a hitch made to fit that way) you're stuck with what you see in my picture. I saw the round-tube alternative on another similar car and it looked a little better, but that one requires support straps for a rack with any carrying capacity. Design-wise I ran into one surprisingly annoying thing the first time I went to insert my drawbar. The hole in the receiver for the hitch pin is set really close to the hitch frame, and there's a gusset plate on top, which leaves basically no room for the clip that secures the pin. My existing clip didn't fit at all until I ground the ends a little. The clip that came with the new hitch sort of fit, but only jammed up against the hitch so hard that it scratched right through the protective powder coat. Weird in a product from such an experienced manufacturer, but easy to rectify. 224467

Fit like butter. Looks stealth (I removed all labels). Watch the official install video. Do exactly what he does. I used an old laptop bag strap and a floor jack to control the exhaust. I would recommend ramps over jack stands for the extra working room. 645303

This hitch fits well and and is very sturdy on a 2018 Mazda 3 HB Sport. I purchased this over the Curt model because it uses the factory mount points for 2 of the 4 bolts. It also does not require a stability strap for non-trailer loads. Install was easy with just one person and a floor jack to hold the hitch. I did end up having to drop the exhaust but it took minutes with white lithium grease and a long screw driver to remove the exhaust hangers. With 2 people it may be possible to install around the exhaust but I was not successful. I also took other reviewers' advice and pushed it as far towards the front of the car as possible before tightening the hardware. So far I have not heard any rattling. Works great to hold a bike rack and cargo carrier securely. 635972

Customer service, shipping, and pricing from etrailer.com is five stars. This review is for the hitch itself. I especially appreciated the etrailer install video, which gave me the confidence to install this hitch myself. I drive a 2018 Mazda3 Hatchback and the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" (#24914) fit perfectly. The necessary attachment holes were pre-drilled, as described. I followed the directions in the install video that etrailer published. It was spot on. My Dad and I opted NOT to lower the exhaust and while I think install might have gone a little bit smoother if we had, we managed to get everything properly in place without dropping the exhaust or damaging the car. I did have to remove tape from the pre-drilled holes as etrailer showed in their video. I think it took us about an hour or so to install but that was because I reviewed the install video at nearly every step to make sure we were doing it right. I would say that I could have installed by myself but the second set of hands to hold up the hitch while I put in the screws and eyes to double check the install was helpful. As of writing this review the hitch has been on my car for nearly a week. I use it with the Kuat Transfer 2 bike rack, and have so far had no problems with the hitch. I've driven approximately 200 highway miles and perhaps 20 miles on rough city roads with the hitch installed and loaded with the bike rack (and bikes at times) and have heard no rattling or seen evidence that the hitch is anything but stable. The only reason I took off a star is strictly cosmetic. I chose the Draw-tite hitch over another option because the Draw-tite sits right under the bumper and is lower "profile" than the other option I was considering. I personally wanted my hitch to be as inconspicuous as possible. As etrailer says in their install/review video, this hitch does fit the Mazda 3 incredibly well, sitting right underneath the bumper. That said, it's not a "hidden" hitch and you CAN see the cross bar beneath the bumper. This obviously does not affect performance and is perhaps a minor complaint and a personal preference. Others might not care at all about being able to see the cross-bar and receiver. 635092

I am really happy with the hitch. The instructions were clear and it was very easy to install. There was no need to remove the exhaust it goes right in between both exhaust tips. The overall craftsmanship, fit and finish is excellent and for those of you looking to get a product that looks like it was installed O.E.M. at the dealer this is the right one for you. 627841

This was a really easy installation for my 2018 Mazda 3 5 door. I did not need to removed the exhaust to get the hitch in place, just some simple jockeying and it located nicely. No drilling and no fascia/bumper removal makes this a breeze. Per a suggestion from another customer - move the hitch as far back as you can to avoid the exhaust. Once you have the hitch located, shake the exhaust to ensure it does not hit the hitch. The receiver is far enough toward the rear that my bike rack mounts perfectly. Service and delivery from etrailer was great. This was my fifth hitch from them. 607761

Product is good and pretty easy to install. You do NOT need to move the muffler. It'll slide between it just fine. I took off one star because the wife piece that bolts against the car was welded too inwards and it wouldn't fit. I had to get a sledgehammer and beat it a couple time to widen it. 605178

After having this for a year, I am happy to say that it has been a great purchase. Very happy I went with this. It was relatively easy to install and feels sturdy and well built. I did have a little trouble finding the right bike rack for it. I ended up going with a 3 bike Thule rack and the combo is working fantastic. It fit perfect on my 2017 Mazda 3 5-door. It’s low profile and looks good. I would recommend this to anyone. 579841

Fits great with sufficient clearance around the muffler that prevents possible rattles. Most of the installation time on my 2018 Mazda 3 Hatchback involved the removal of the muffler with its 4 rubber isolation mounts. The instructions for the hitch requires that the muffler be lowered (which requires removing the 4 rubber mounts) to slide the hitch in place, but by removing the 2 bolts on the muffler input flange, the whole muffler was removed to make the hitch installation so much easier. Overall, very satisfied with the quality and fit of the hitch. 579625

The mount has been great! Continues to do its job hauling bikes and towing trash cans without any drama. Apologies for blacking out all the stickers. Had to keep the car's clean appearance. No issues after a year of use. Installation was fairly easy, though the rubber grommets holding the exhausts were a bit of a pain (use soapy water to make them easier to remove and reinstall), but that's on Mazda. Primarily use this for transporting two bikes on a platform style rack. Rack is solid with no indication of sagging. Preferred this style over the other option available since this one did not require strapping. 451869

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Highest Capacity Trailer Hitch for 2018 Mazda 3 Hatchback
  • All of the hitches made for your 2018 Mazda 3 Hatchback are rated the same, for 200-lbs of tongue weight (TW) and 2000-lbs towing capacity. But these are available in two receiver sizes, both 1-1/4-inch like # 24914 from Draw-Tite and # C11377 from Curt, and also 2-inch like the EcoHitch # 306-X7305 that you referenced in your question. If you already own accessory bike and cargo carriers that fit one particular size hitch then you might a well stick with that same size for the hitch....

  • Comparing Curt and Draw Tite Hitches for 2018 Mazda 3
  • For your 2018 Mazda 3 we have Curt and Draw Tite hitches available. I recommend the Draw Tite hitches over the Curt hitches as they don't require the use of a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. So if you have a hatchback you'd want the Draw Tite part # 24914 or if you have a sedan you'd want the # 24912 instead.

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2017 Mazda 3 Hatchback
  • First, for your 2017 Mazda 3 hatchback, you will need a trailer hitch. I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24914 because it does not have any special requirements like the Curt option does. For a bike rack the Kuat Transfer # TS02G, is a popular option. It holds the bikes at the wheels so it is compatible with many bike styles. The U-shaped rack frame makes loading and unloading the bikes easier. I have included a link to a video review of this rack for you. If you prefer the hanging...

If you do decide to tow you need to start with a trailer hitch, either the Draw-Tite # 24912 if your '18 Mazda 3 is a sedan or the Draw-Tite # 24914 if your Mazda is a hatchback; these are the best option because they will be the easiest to install.
