Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Great product. eTrailer.com is the true winner, with the search capabilities, instructions, and especially the videos is what makes the product nice. I thank you for website service, the ordering ease, the shipping and tracking, and the customer service. This is my second product that I have bought and it will not be the last. Thank you. 394397

2017 Honda Accord

A challenging DIY install on 2017 Accord. The U-bolt spacing was not wide enough to fit over the tow ring. Also spacer bars were too wide and long to fit in access holes to support bolts in the rails. Finally extensive cutting/modification of the drip sheet to accomodate the tow rack frame and flanges. Overall, it took 2 people about 7 hrs to install. 627949

Fairly straight forward. With the right tools (including tin snips) its a two hour job. I used a air grinder which made the hole widening task a breeze. But you could also just grind down an edge on the rectangular carriage bolt piece to make it fit the hole. Love the wire feeder thing - nice! 634125

2014 Honda Accord

experience was great - fit not so much. The holes were too small for the bolts and the frame mount to fit into the holes. This was a GIANT PAIN TO open these holes up. I had to grind the carriage bolt holder peice and grind the frame hole opening. Why not just make the holder a little smaller to fit? Come-on-man... There was nothing in there about having to remove the plastic shield under the center of the spare tire area and not reinstall it? Just overall bad instructions and even the video did not mention these things. Product is good, shipping good, price good. 518982

Great product. It took me and my son 5 hours to install. Get a long ratchet to get the screws out of the plastic cover underneath. Heat shield is a bit if a pain but just keep trimming it till it fits. The video says to us a cargo stap to hold the muffler up. We used a car jack. Video said to leave the plastic cover off after installation. I figured the manufacturer put it there for a reason. I used tin snips to trim it up. Plastic pins can't be used again so we used cable ties. Everything fits perfectly. 433167

2013 Honda Accord

Comparison Review Draw-Tite or Drawtite 24899 and Curt 11681 hitches for 2013 Honda Accord 4-dr. Due to a manufacturing defect on the first hitch I installed, I had the pleasure of installing both of these hitches in the past 3 weeks on my Accord. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to write this review. Mounting hardware: Draw-Tite came with SAE Grade 5 carriage bolts, Curt came with stronger Grade 8 carriage bolts and nuts. Apparent strength of the hitch: reviews of the Curt state that a strap is needed to stabilize bike racks, Draw-Tite does not incl. this warranty condition. However, the Curt’s receiver channel has a welded collar that reinforces the square tube that is the business end of the receiver, the Draw-Tite does not. I suspect that Curt’s collar makes the receiver’s square tube less likely to split due to the high leverage of a bike rack. Ease of Installation: Both hitches require a “spacer” or block that fits into the Accord’s rails with the carriage bolts. The width of the Draw-Tite’s spacer required the entrance hole to be enlarged by drilling, filing, or prying open the hole on my brand new Accord, the Curt’s spacer is sized so that it just slips in the existing hole without modification. Appearance: Both reveal about the same amount, the rounded cross section of the Curt tubing results in a more attractive look. Ground Clearance: When installed, the Curt hitch has better ground clearance that the Draw-Tite. Paint finish: the same for both. Manufacturing Quality Control: The sample of Draw-Tite (bearing a “Made in Mexico” sticker) I installed was defective. Drawbars had to be pounded in by sledge hammer and awkwardly pounded out by same, ruining the finish on the drawbar. Apparently, the receiver channel was deformed when the manufacturer “punched” the holes in the receiver channel that the drawbar pin fits through. Once the drawbar was pounded in, a welded button or stop within the channel prevented the drawbar from going in deep enough so that the drawbar holes and receiver channel holes lined up. Draw-Tite Customer Service acknowledged the defect and said that they had had several calls on this, were manufacturing new ones, orders were on backorder and I’d have to work with the place I bought the hitch for replacement. E-Trailer Customer service was superb, they contacted Draw-Tite, confirmed backorder status, shipped me the slightly more expensive Curt at no extra charge, provided pre-paid return shipping label for the defective Draw-Tite. The sample from Curt installed and worked perfectly. Thorough this experience with Draw-Tite, I had the pleasure of spending the time installing a hitch twice on the same car and gathering the data to write this review. You have the benefit of reading this comparison review. 89392

Just a quick note, the button or stop is intended to be present on Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitches. That stop will prevent the use of Class II Only designed ball mounts, carriers and racks.

2016 Honda Accord

Received product in 5 business days. I am located on the West Coast and paid extra for 3-5 day shipping. Had my father and son install on my 2016 Honda Accord Touring Sedan. Took them 2 1/2hrs. May be quicker for others since it was a learning experience for my son. Had to do small modification to the carriage bolt plates to allow them to fit through the hole in the frame. Small amount of grinding. I am using this with a Yakima bike rack. First trip did great. Very happy with the look on my vehicle, and my purchase. Highly recommend it. 621759

The installation instructions the require the enlargement of the access hole using a wrench or a file. Their preference is to enlarge the access hole on the frame vs. grinding down the spacers.

Hitch is working great! I use it mainly for bike rack, cargo tray, and other light-duty accessories. Installation was as expected with no issues. I'm giving the hitch 4 stars because it sticks out beyond the bumper a little more than I was hoping, but so far no shin whacks. etrailer.com gets 5 stars for service and delivery. Everything was great. 884449

The hitch is well made, and supports a 2-bike rack. Installation was easy, although it was necessary to enlarge the access holes on car’s unibody rails to accommodate the carriage bolt spacers included with the kit. This may prove difficult without the proper tools, such as a Dremel or other small grinder. 884164

2016 Honda Accord

There were a few hiccups during installation. We decided to keep the fascia, and therefore had to trim the edges of it, the instructions say to remove it, that was a personal decision to keep it. As described, the heat shield was required to be trimmed as well, and the hole to thread the initial screws on the sides were too small, requiring us to use a dremmel to widen the hole. After that, everything was straight forward and fairly easy. My main intention is to use this with a bike rack. It solved the problem of only having a rear tow hook. It helped to use bungee cords to hold up the mufflers so there wasn't as much stress on the front. 828128

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2008 Honda Accord
For your 2008 Honda Accord, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch # 24899. This Class I hitch is confirmed to fit your Accord and will use existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation. I recommend the Draw-Tite model over the Curt alternatives, because unlike Curt, Draw-Tite does not require the use of additional stabilizing straps for non-trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers. I have attached an installation video on your 2008...

  • Trailer Hitch That Fits a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid
The hitch I recommend that fits a 2017 Honda Accord hybrid is the Draw-Tite # 24899 because the manufacturer does not require the use of stabilizing straps with your bike rack like the Curt hitch does. This hitch has a 1-1/4 inch receiver and will bolt on to your Accord hybrid. Note that this hitch is going to require the trimming of the underbody panel on your Accord hybrid. I've added a link to a video of this hitch being installed on a '17 Accord as well as a link to our selection...

To do so you would need to start with a trailer hitch, and I recommend the Draw-Tite # 24899 which has a 1-1/4" receiver and is a bolt-on installation so there will be no drilling into your Accord's frame; I have linked a video showing an install of this hitch on a '16 Accord for you to take a look at. As you referenced in your question, both the Draw-Tite # 24899 and Curt # C11681 Class I Trailer Hitches are confirmed to fit your 2015 Honda Accord. As you also mentioned, Curt requires that with their Class I and II trailer hitches, a stabilizing strap like # 18050 be used with any non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers. This is not an indication of the hitch's strength or stability, but simply an extra precaution Curt takes to further support the hitch. Both...

But the one I suggest is the Draw-Tite # 24899 because it does not have the requirement to use a stabilizing strap # 18050 as the Curt does, for loads like bike racks and cargo carriers. However, the vehicle only has a 1,000 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity and since this is the lowest rated component in the system, it will need to be the figure you abide by. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most easy-to-use bike racks and this one showed up in nearly...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2016 Honda Accord to Use with Bike Rack
Both the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Trailer Hitch # 24899 and Curt Class I # C11681 are confirmed to fit your 2016 Honda Accord. They will both use the same existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation and they also feature the same towing and tongue weight capacities. The Draw-Tite does have a square tube crossbar while the Curt has a round tube. This is simply an aesthetic difference and it has no bearing on the actual performance or durability of the hitch. As...

  • Installing Draw-Tite Class I Receiver # 24899 on 2013 Honda Accord
As you can see by looking at the installation instructions I have linked to, the procedure for installing the # 24899 is quite a bit more involved than that used when you installed the # 60953 on your 2003 Accord. Because the heat shields will need to be bent out of the way to allow access to where the hitch attaches to the frame members, lowering the exhaust will be a necessity. Lowering the exhaust is not terribly difficult, you will need to spray some lubricant like WD-40 on the exhaust...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2017 Honda Accord that's Easy to Load and Unload
The perfect solution for your would be a trailer hitch bike rack. Hitch bike racks provide a much more solid connection than a trunk mount, are easier to load and unload than a roof rack mount, and cost much less too. Also no painted surfaces are touched at all too. So for a hitch you'd want to start with the Draw Tite # 24899 which is a confirmed fit and would be the better option than the Curt equivalent as it does not require the use of a stabilizer strap like Curt does. For a...

  • Best Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Honda Accord for Bike Rack
Since the Curt hitch requires you to use a stabilizer strap like the part # 18050 when carrying a non supported load like a bike rack that would be the first hitch to take out of consideration for you. Since the Hidden Hitch comes with a ball mount that you wouldn't need and costs a bit more I would recommend the Draw Tite part # 24899. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. The Swagman XTC2, part # S64670 is one of the most popular racks because it's so easy to...

  • Compatibility of Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitch w/ 2016 Honda Accord Touring Model w/ Dual Exhaust
The Draw-Tite Class I trailer hitch, part # 24899 is indeed compatible with your 2016 Honda Accord Touring model with dual exhaust. Minor modifications will be necessary to install the hitch. In some cases, the access hole in the frame member might need to be enlarged slightly to allow the installation hardware to be fished through the frame. The heat shields are temporarily removed, then reattached, the shield might need to be bent or trimmed to clear the fasteners. If the vehicle has...
