Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Nissan Altima - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2015 Nissan Altima, we'll be installing the Draw Tite Class 1, 1'1/4" receiver hitch, part number 24796. As you can see it's got a nice square tube design and it tucks up underneath the vehicle so it's not real easily visible. This hitch has a 200 pound tongue capacity and 2000 pound towing capacity. Next, I'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist your selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is 6-1/4". From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 10-1/2". This will assist your selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier.

We'll go ahead and with the installation. Now to begin our install we're first going to go ahead and open up the trunk and remove the spare tire cover. Now the reason we're removing the spare tire cover is because ultimately part of our attachment points, we're going to go through the frame into the trunk area. I'll go ahead and pull the cargo mat out of the way first, set it aside, then our spare tire cover and the fiber board underneath. Now for the cover, if I take it, fold it in and up, it will keep it out of the way because ultimately what we need to expose is the frame rail on both sides. Here you can see a small indention and below that is the frame. Next we need to remove both muffler assemblies.

There's one on the driver and passenger side and for the install of our hitch, whether it's disassembly or re-installation, each step we do here on one side is going to get repeated identically on the opposite side because our hitch attachment points for the driver and passenger side are identical. Now to remove the muffler we're first going to go ahead, loosen the exhaust clamp. Then, using a spray lubricate, we'll spray down the rubber isolator that's above the muffler. Once we have the muffler released from the exhaust pipe, we'll just take it and slide it toward the rear of the vehicle so that the metal hanger will come out of the rubber isolator. Now with the passenger side down and out we'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the driver's side. Now with the exhaust out of the way we need to relocate the heat shields. We're just going to take them and fold them out toward the rear of the vehicle, out toward the tire or away from the center opening up the space between the spare tire well and the frame.

Here's where the hitch side bracket is going to sit. Now with both heat shields out of the way, it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands. We're going to take the hitch, hold it up into position and using a paint marker, mark out our two attachment points for each side. Now once we have our holes marked we'll go ahead and bring the hitch back down and out of the way and as you can see we used the hitch as a template to mark out our attachment points. Next we'll go ahead and drill them out. To drill them out I'm going to start with a smaller pilot hole and work my way up to my final size as per the instructions.

Now that our hole's drilled out, I'm going to go ahead and get back into the trunk. Before we put our hardware in place we're going to apply some of the Loctite RTV Gasket Silicone Maker, part number LT37467. This will help to seal up around our attachment points to make sure we seal it up from the outside. Now for each side we're going to have a bolt plate that will sit down over top of the attachment holes and then a 7/16" carriage bolt that will go down through each attachment point. All right, we're now ready to go ahead and put our hitch in place. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help put the hitch up in place and then install your fasteners. Keep in mind that you need to be very careful as you put your hitch in place not to push your hardware back up into the trunk. Now as you put your hardware in place keep in mind we'll have this footlock washer and then the nut. With my nut already in the socket and this footlock washer resting on top gently feed them both into place, just use that to thread and get our nut started. Once it's started I'll go ahead and tighten it down, hand tight. Now with the passenger side done I'll move over to the driver's side and repeat the same process. Now with all the fasteners installed we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Once we have all our fasteners tightened down we'll go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in instructions. Now with all our fasteners tightened down and torqued to specifications, we'll push the heat shields back into place and then reinstall the mufflers. Quick tech tip, once you have your mufflers tightened back down, go ahead and check to make sure that the heat shield doesn't rattle on the hitch or the muffler. Alright now with our exhaust reinstalled we'll move back into the trunk and reinstall the inner cargo liner and cover. Now with everything installed we're ready to hit the road. And that will do it for the install of the Draw Tite Class 1, 1'1/4" receiver hitch, part number 24796 on our 2015 Nissan Altima. .

I received the item that I ordered, watched the installation video and installed it on my vehicle. The application was easy and it took about an hour because I don’t have a lift. Still putting my car on ramps made it easy to work with and it looks great. I would recommend this product to anyone. Thanks again for a great product and it looks great on my car and it’s hardly noticeable. Works great for a bike rack. 674715

2012 Nissan Altima

The hitch fit my 2012 Altima perfectly and was a breeze to install on my own. It works great with my bikerack. The only issue I had was removing my muflers at the clamps which were rusted tight. I ended up taking the car to a shop to heat and remove them for me. I wasn’t able to heat them enough outside when it was windy and below freezing. 585279

The trailer hook-up works great. I used it to haul a trailer from Ohio to N.M. I also used it to haul a trailer from Ohio to Florida. The hitch preformed like a dream. I have it on my 2010 Nissan Altima . 542697

This is a very high quality product and well built. Installation was a challenge. I do a lot of DYI projects, but this was a challenge. You need some way to keep it place while installing it. It is very heavy. I am also not sure that removal of the heat shields is a great idea. I bent mine out of the way, but bending them back was a challenge. If you have the means to install this yourself, it is a great product, but if you don't, you may want to find someone to install it for you. I would recommend this https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Adapters/Brophy/HT5R.html if you want to get some height. I install this into an 2014 Altima 3.5. 502252

I ordered this hitch because it said that the drawbar and pin were included in the description. When it showed up there wasn't a drawbar or pin in the box. I emailed etrailer and got a response within just a few minutes. I figured that it was going to be the usual "prove that it's missing" hassle that other stores have had me go through in the past with filing a report with the company that shipped it and endless emails that eventually lead you to give up. I was pleasantly surprised when they asked me if the box was damaged and if I was sure that the drawbar wasn't in the box then simply sent one out to replace the missing one. A few days later and the drawbar showed up in my mailbox, no hassles or any hoops to jump through. From now on, whenever I need another hitch or any other thing they have on their website this will be the place I go to. Thank you etrailer for not putting me through the ringer. 239075

This is the third trailer hitch I have purchased from Etrailer.com. Each one has arrived in a very timely manner with no missing parts and nothing damaged. Prior to my purchases I have viewed the installation videos which were very helpful. The written installation instructions that accompanied each trailer hitch were complete and easy to understand. The wiring harnesses were a perfect match to each vehicle. 105214

The hitch and wiring harness have worked without fault. I am quite happy with the product a year later.

The hitch was received quickly, and near perfect condition ( a bit of paint is scraped off of sharp corners). The boxes have a hard time containing a hitch, and small holes are created from handling, then paint is worn off of the portion that protrudes. A bit of touch-up & It looks very nice. Install was no problem, probably about 40 minutes total. Looks very proper . 325053

I wanted to be able to tow a light trailer and this hitch receiver is just perfect for that. It's sturdy and reliable. The instructions for installing were right on. the only surprise was that I needed to borrow a pipe expander for putting the mufflers back on, but it all went very well. I'm very happy with it. 489112

2011 Nissan Altima

1 year after purchase, I am mostly happy with this receiver. It was a pain to install, mainly due to the design of my 2011 Altima, but I knew that going in thanks to the instructions and videos on etrailer. My only hesitation to give it 5 stars is the surface rust inside the receiver tube. I'm not sure how, but it seems like they could figure out a way to make that look better for longer. However, the hitch has worked perfectly in the light towing (~600lb) I do. 524293

Comments
Unfortunately, due to the metal on metal contact that the finish on the interior of the receiver tube experiences, theres really not much that could be done to prevent the finish from being abraded. A thin coat of grease on the shank of the ballmount or hitch mounted accessory will be the best bet to provide some protection.

Service from etrailer and product quality are both great! Installed easily, a perfect fit on the car, very happy. My only issue is the damage that happened in shipping. The hitch had no padding or packing materials in the box to secure the hitch inside the box. As a result it slid freely inside the box punching holes through the cardboard and chipping paint off. These impacts also loosened the parts inside scratching up the bar as seen in my pictures near where I installed the trailer light plug. A little bubble wrap, wadded paper, or foam could have prevented the damage completely. The cardboard box was not dented, other then the holes punched from the inside out by the hitch parts as they slid and slammed into the sides of the box. 66882

I purchased this rack just before Christmas in 2018, I wasn't able to put it on my car until summer 2019. It has worked very well. It took about 3 hours to install. I borrowed a friends car ramps. The most difficult part was loosening the muffler and threading the nut on the bolt while trying to hold everything steady from underneath. You definitely need help. Overall, I would purchase this again for another vehicle and it is great to have a rack on my car! 732076

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Carrying Bike Rack for 2018 Nissan Maxima
The hitch I recommend for your 2018 Nissan Maxima is the Draw Tite part # 24796 because unlike the Curt that fits your vehicle it does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. I attached a picture of what the hitch looks like installed as well as an install video. This will work great to carry your Thule T2 part # TH9045 too.

This is true for all Class I hitches for all vehicles. While there are some lighter-weight mobility chairs on the market, such as the 54-lb Lexis Light, most mobility chairs weigh more, some well into the 300-lb range. Your hitch's TW rating should be noted on its safety sticker. This limit must...

The information you provided on the Cansporter (thank you) indicates that it is designed for 2-inches hitches, so for you to use it in a 1-1/4-inch hitch you'd need an adapter like # HTAD which converts your hitch to a 2-inch receiver opening. • Would a Trailer Hitch from a 2014 Nissan Altima fit a 2015 Nissan Altima
The hitches like the part # 24796 that would fit a 2014 Nissan Altima fit 2007-2015 Altima models so it would be safe to say that a hitch from a 2014 would fit a 2015. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2015 Nissan Altima
The Draw Tite Hitch part # 24796 that you referenced would be the correct hitch for your 2015 Nissan Altima. Check out the install video I attached as well. If you are looking for a bike rack the most popular one we sell is the Swagman XTC-2 Bike Rack part # S64670. Check out the review video I attached.

  • Will the Draw-Tite for the 2013 Nissan Altima fit the 4 Cylinder Models Also
I spoke to my contact at Draw-Tite and he said that the hitch # 24796 can be used on the 2013 Nissan Altima 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder as long as it is a sedan. However, if your owners manual says that the 4-cylinder models should not have hitches installed on them then you should go with their recommendation so as not to void your warranty. Check out the installation video and instructions I attached for this product also.

  • Is the Draw Tite Hitch 24796 Confirmed as a fit for the 2016 Nissan Maxima
Before any of our hitch manufacturers will release a fit for a vehicle they always test fit to be certain. Especially Draw Tite and Hidden Hitch. They seem to release fits later than Curt and rarely if ever do they get it wrong. They are incredibly cautious about carrying over a hitch fit from the previous year. That being said the Draw Tite hitch part # 24796 is going to fit your 2016 Nissan Maxima despite the differences on the vehicle you noted. I attached an install video that shows...

  • 2 Inch Adapter Recommendation for Draw-Tite Receiver # 24796
For your vehicle and the hitch you referenced, I recommend the 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Brophy Hitch Adapter # HTAD. It will convert any 1-1/4 inch Class I or II receiver to a 2 inch receiver and has enough length for use with the brands you mentioned. A word of caution; using this adapter will cut your gross tongue weight capacity in half and this adapter cannot be used for towing or for using a snow plow. I have provided a video review of this product. I do want to point out that using...

  • Hitch Comparison and Recommendation for a 2015 Nissan Altima
According to Draw Tite the hitch part # 24796 should only take a professional about an hour to complete. For more info check out the install video and instructions I attached. Both this hitch and the Curt hitch part # C11352 have the same weight capacities so I can assure that either would be just as strong as the other when installed on your vehicle. The trade does seem to be that the Curt hitch requires removal of heat shields and gas tank cover whereas the Draw Tite requires that...

  • Installation Of Draw-Tite Hitch, # 24796, On A Nissan And Is It Visible With Ball Mount Removed
The Draw-Tite Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, # 24796, will fit a 2009 to 2010 Nissan Maxima and a 2007 to 2010 Nissan Altima Sedan. The hitch will mount below the rear bumper cover on both vehicles and the hitch will be noticeable without the ball mount attached. I am sending you video links of the hitch being installed on a 2009 Nissan Maxima and on a 2010 Nissan Altima. The videos will show you the rear of the vehicle after installation which will give you a good idea on how much of the...

  • Can Dirt Bike Be Carried with Draw-Tite # 24796 Class I Trailer Hitch on 2010 Nissan Altima
With the Draw-Tite # 24796 200 lb tongue weight capacity, your bike plus the weight of the carrier should be no more than 200 lbs. If this is exceeded, you run the danger of the hitch or the hitch attachment points to the vehicle failing and the loss of your bike and its carrier as you're traveling. Which would be bad. The lightest carrier we offer, the # MT70101 weighs around 45 lbs, so that's going to need to be a pretty light bike to come in under that 200 lb figure. If the weight...

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Nissan Altima to Carry a Yakima RidgeBack Bike Rack
Some Class I hitches like the Curt hitch part # C11352 do not have the weld stop in the hitch opening that would prevent a Class II bike rack from being installed in it like the Yakima RidgeBack 2 bike rack part # Y02457 that you are interested in. You would need to be sure not to exceed the capacity of the hitch. The Curt Hitch part # C11352 would work well for you, but it will require the use of a stabilizer strap like the part # 18050 with the bike rack as Yakima states that all non-trailer...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Carrier for a 2015 Nissan Altima Sedan
Trailer hitch # 60873 (no longer available) is a fit for the 2015 Nissan Altima sedan. But if you will not be doing any towing then I recommend # 24796. The reason is that 60873 comes with a ball mount, something that you will not need unless you plan on doing some towing. Both trailer hitches are Class I hitches. This means that you can carry up to 2 bikes, but no more. And you have to use a Class I compatible bike rack. I recommend the Swagman Trailhead # S63360. This is Class I compatible,...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2013 Nissan Altima Sedan
For your 2013 Nissan Altima Sedan I recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Trailer Hitch # 24796. This is a great, budget-friendly hitch that has a 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver and a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. All of the trailer hitches we carry for the 2013 Altima sedan require drilling and the temporary removal of the muffler during installation. The vehicle frame doesn't have pre-drilled holes where the hitch can be installed. The Draw-Tite # 24796 also requires trunk access...

  • Does Trailer Hitch Install Require Drilling on 2015 Nissan Altima/Trunk Bike Carrier for 2015 Altima
All of the trailer hitches for your 2015 Nissan Altima require drilling for installation though none of them require welding. If drilling is a deal breaker there is another option. You could use a trunk mounted carrier. The Thule Passage # TH910XT is a good entry level bike carrier which includes anti-sway cradles to keep the bikes from hitting each other or the back of the vehicle. I have linked a video review of this carrier for you. If you will be carrying any bikes that do not...
