Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs
part number: RP30051

Fifth-wheel trailer hitch provides excellent jaw-to-king-pin contact with a 2-jaw latching system. Square-tube slider helps to eliminate clearance concerns during slow-speed turns. Rails and installation kit sold separately.

Features:

  • 2-Jaw locking system provides more jaw-to-king-pin contact than slide-bar models
    • Less rattle
    • Greater security
  • Square-tube slider provides clearance required for your short-bed pickup to turn safely at slow speeds
    • Prevents trailer from hitting the cab of your pickup during sharp, slow-speed turns
  • 4-Way pivoting head eases hookup on unlevel ground
  • 3" Height adjustment
  • Wide stance offers excellent stability
  • Black powder coat finish resists corrosion
  • Locking handle has cushioned grip
  • Above-bed rails and mounting kit sold separately
    • Fits Curt, Valley, Draw-Tite, Hidden-Hitch and Reese base rails
    • Cut installation time in half by using a vehicle-specific bracket kit instead of the universal kit

Specs:

  • Gross towing weight: 16,000 lbs
  • Vertical load limit: 4,000 lbs
  • Installed hitch height (including rails): 15" - 18"
  • Travel: 10" front to back
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Note: If using a slider, hitch will not adjust to lowest height setting.

Note: This fifth-wheel trailer hitch will not fit pickups with beds shorter than 6'. It also will not fit trucks with flareside/stepside bed. A minimum 13" extended trailer pin box is recommended.

Reese Double Jaw

Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Unlike the more economical slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Kwik-Slide Square-Tube Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches
part number: RP56009-53

Heavy-duty, custom brackets dramatically reduce the amount of drilling and time required to install your fifth-wheel trailer hitch. Outboard design ensures simple access to mounting points. Brackets, 10-bolt base rails and hardware included.

Features:

  • Installation brackets mount beneath your truck bed to provide attachment points for 5th-wheel rails
  • Base rails sit in truck bed and allow installation of 5th-wheel trailer hitch
  • Fast, simple installation with outboard design
    • Extended-length base rails allow for mounting farther out from truck frame
      • Avoids underbed components for easier access
      • Cuts down installation time by more than half compared with universal kits
    • Custom brackets mount to existing holes in truck frame, minimizing drilling and measuring
  • Thoroughly tested kit is compliant with strict Society of Automotive Engineers guidelines
  • Kit includes brackets, 10-bolt rails and Grade-8 hardware
  • Compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley 5th-wheel hitches
  • Sturdy, black powder coated steel resists corrosion

Specs:

  • Base rail dimensions: 48" long x 1-7/8" tall
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Reese's outboard installation kit for your fifth-wheel trailer hitch was designed with safety and convenience in mind. Just like the original custom mounting brackets, these brackets install using existing holes in the truck frame, minimizing installation time. The biggest difference with this outboard kit is the extended-length rails. These above-bed rails are 5 inches longer than standard, universal fifth-wheel rails so that they will match up with the mounting points on the brackets, which sit below the bed and outside of your truck's frame. The result is a much simpler installation process, wherein most underbed components can be easily avoided. Because you are working outside the frame rails, you also have easier access with your tools and more room to work, making the whole process less of a pain.

The base rails included in this installation kit feature a standard 10-bolt design. Each of these rails attaches to the underbed brackets with two carriage bolts at both ends. A single bolt is used in the center of each rail to further secure it in your truck bed. The result is a set of base rails that remains firmly in place thanks to 10 points of contact.

This entire installation kit is built to be SAE J2638 compliant and has been extensively tested per specified accelerated-life-cycle criteria for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. The requirements for testing are based on the European-style test of 900,000 cycles, making this testing process among the most thorough and intensive in the industry.

  • Reese Custom Rail Kit for Reese 16K Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch in 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500
  • The fifth wheel installation kit I would recommend for your Reese # RP30051 in your 2008 Chevy Silverado would be the Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # RP56007-53. This kit is a custom install kit that would install in about half the time as a universal kit and will minimize drilling.

  • Can a Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Be Used in a Long Bed Truck
  • You can use a slider type of 5th wheel trailer hitch, like # RP30051 in a long bed truck. In a long bed truck it is very unlikely that you will need to use the sliding feature of the hitch to make 90 degree turns safely. It can remain in the tow position (not slid back) and you should have enough clearance with an 8 foot bed truck. A slider should only be slid back when making tight maneuvers and not for general traveling. For something rated higher, but is not a slider, we have the

  • Fifth wheel hitches like the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Square Tube Slider # RP30051 aren't specific fits so you could use it in any truck bed. The base rails are what are specific fits. To install the # RP30051 in the bed of your 2016 Ford F-150 XLT 6.5' bed you would need rails like the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP56034-53. • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer be Towed with a Slider Hitch in the Maneuver Position
  • No, you do not want to tow the trailer with the slider # RP30051 in the maneuver position. This position is only for tight maneuvers where extra clearance is needed between truck cab and trailer overhang in order to safely make tight turns. For regular towing the hitch must be locked in the towing position. Moving the hitch back puts the weight of the trailer behind the rear axle of the truck. This would cause all manner of ride problems if you were to tow it that way. Steering would

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer Be Towed with a Slider Hitch in the Maneuvering Position
  • You cannot tow the trailer with the slider hitch in the maneuvering position. The trailer should actually be centered directly over the rear axle or a few inches forward of it but not behind it at all. That will cause all sort of issues such as steering and braking problems, it can make the headlights point up, and the capacity behind the axle is lower than directly above it or slightly forward. What you could do instead which would be much safer is add a Sidewinder to the trailer. A

There are several series, bed lengths, and trims of the 2001 Silverado available. • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitches for 2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD with Short Bed
  • As long as you stay with a name-brand product like Reese, Husky or Curt, you should have no problems. You will want to choose a hitch whose weight capacity exceeds the fully loaded ready-to-tow weight of your fifth wheel. Because your truck has the 6-1/2 foot bed, you will want to choose a sliding hitch. A slider provides additional clearance between the front of the trailer loft and the rear of the truck cab, to prevent the trailer from striking and damaging the truck during turns.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie
  • Kenneth from what I researched yes that trailer is going to be too heavy for your 1500. It looks like your Dodge has a 3,500 to 5,200 lb towing capacity so with that trailer being already at the end empty means you're going to be over the limit. My suggestion is to look at smaller trailers so you don't run the risk of overloading your truck. But with that being said, you're still going to need a hitch no matter what you choose to do, so I'd recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch

  • Typically with any bed under 8' in length we recommend using either a slider hitch or fixed hitch and rotating pin box to prevent the nose of the trailer from coming into contact with the cab of the truck when making tight turns. There are some trailers that have tapered noses that allow for more turning clearance, but it's always best to play it safe. You can see how much turning clearance you have by taping a plumb bob to the outermost corner of the trailer's nose and measuring from

I've also seen too many videos of these hitches failing and crumpling in on themselves to trust them.
