Simple Removal for Full Bed Access

B&W Companion Simple Removal

With the Companion from B&W, you get a heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch that mounts in your truck bed by connecting directly to a custom underbed mounting kit with the included components. No modifications are required to your truck or trailer. And no additional parts are required for the system to work. When you're done towing, the entire hitch can be removed for complete bed access.

Quiet, Secure Ride

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Built-In Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, a slider helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a slider to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

The slider that is built into the base of the Companion allows for 12" of fore and aft travel to give you the clearance you need.

Assembly of the B&W Companion

The Companion's pivot arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you some additional cab clearance. To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitch

B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

Not only does this kit provide you with a sturdy, custom base for installing your Companion fifth-wheel trailer hitch in the bed of your truck, but it also doubles as one of the most recognizable gooseneck hitches on the market. This fifth wheel installation kit actually is the Turnoverball gooseneck hitch from B&W.

Gooseneck Specs:

  • Gross towing weight: 30,000 lbs
  • Vertical load limit: 7,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"

B&W Companion Installed in Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch

With the B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch you get the best of both worlds. When you go to tow a gooseneck trailer, the Turnoverball creates a sturdy, dependable connection with your trailer. And when you're done towing, you can stow the ball upside down in the hitch to get full bed access and a clean appearance. When you're ready to tow your fifth wheel trailer, just install the Companion in the ball hole in place of the gooseneck ball and lock the post in place using the built-in handle. You can remove the fifth wheel when you're done towing, leaving your truck bed open once again.

Simple, Custom Installation

This kit is custom designed for your vehicle. The mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.

Once you have the brackets and center section installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the mounting post of the Companion (or the base of the gooseneck hitch ball).

Ask the Experts about this 5th Wheel Hitch

  • How to Measure 5th Wheel Hitch Height for a 2023 GMC Sierra 3500 W/ a Short Bed
  • Ok so in order to determine the correct height setting for your 5th wheel and your GMC Sierra 3500, you'd need to level your setup and measure from the ground to the bottom of the pin box and choose a height setting that gives you the most level ride (17" - 19" for the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400-5W you're looking at). Keep in mind that we recommend having at least 5-6" of space between the bed rails and your truck/trailer to make sure you don't have any contact between the two. Since

  • How to Determine Clearance for Gooseneck Hitch on 2016 Dodge Ram 2500
  • You need to use the following calculation to find if you have enough clearance: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from the gooseneck ball to the truck cab B = Offset used C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2. So your A is 35" and C is 48" which means right now Clearance = -13". You really want A to be 4" more than C so in this case you need a 17" offset. Even if you combine an offset ball with an offset adapter you aren't going to be able to get to 17" or even 13". The

  • Troubleshooting 5th Wheel Chucking with Andersen Ultimate Gooseneck Hitch
  • The Andersen Ultimate is a nice option for being lightweight, but it is not any help with chucking as you described. It has absolutely no built in assistance for that function. You are pulling a really big trailer, so the chucking will be worse with that than a lightweight 5th wheel because there is simply more momentum so you will feel it more. There really isn't a way to help with the chucking you are experiencing with that particular hitch as air ride will definitely help some but

If the design of the bed on your 2006 GMC Sierra 2500 would not allow the installation of the Companion we wouldn't list it as an option and B&W would have notes saying the Companion is not compatible. • Which B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch For 2024 Toyota Tundra
  • Hi Cory, There is a B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch that will work with your 2024 Toyota Tundra with a composite bed, though it is a different part number than the one you asked about, as that one is for Chevy/GMC trucks with a puck system. Instead, you'll need the mounting rails (which even doubles as a gooseneck hitch), and either a fixed or sliding Companion. You'll need the fixed hitch if you have an 8 foot bed, and the sliding hitch if you have a short bed. The correct parts to add

The best solution I can provide would be to go with the # F2550 instead of what you have so that you can install the B and W rails and the Companion # BWRVK3500 because there are no under-bed mount gooseneck hitches that are compatible with # F2452

  • Can a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Gooseneck Trailer Hitch be Installed in a 1999 Ford Super Duty
  • Yes, you can put both a 5th wheel hitch and gooseneck hitch in your 1999 Ford Super Duty. If you have a short bed you will need gooseneck hitch and installation kit # BWGNRK1108-5W. Then you can use the B and W companion hitch # BWRVK3400-5W. If you have a long bed you can use the same gooseneck hitch and install kit # BWGNRK1108-5W but the companion 5th wheel hitch you would need is # BWRVK3500-5W. The only other way to tow both types of trailers is to install either a gooseneck

  • Recommended Gooseneck And Fifth Wheel Hitch For 2002 Ford F-350 With 8-Ft Bed
  • Since you said you want to use your 2002 F-350 for a gooseneck and a fifth wheel I recommend the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # BWRVK3500-5W and part # BWGNRK1108-5W. This system requires no drilling in to the frame of your truck and gives you both the fifth wheel hitch and a gooseneck hitch, and also an empty bed that can be used for cargo when you are not towing . I have attached a link to an installation video for the custom installation kit you can check out. I

  • Recommended Under-Bed 5th Wheel Rails And 5th Wheel Hitch For 2009 Ford F-250 w/ 8 Bed
  • Absolutely! Starting with the under-bed rails I highly recommend the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1108-5W which is actually a gooseneck hitch but allows you to mount select 5th wheel hitches and is the best option for under bed rails currently available. Now for a 5th wheel hitch I recommend B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs # BWRVK3500-5W which has a 20000lb weight capacity, and has the premium features

  • Will Reese Revolution Pin Box Work with B&W Companion Hitch for a 2000 Ford F-250
  • The B&W Companion hitches that fit only in the gooseneck ball hole cannot be used with Reese Revolution/Sidewinder pin boxes because the pivot point is locked out at the hitch head. When using a Reese Revolution or Sidewinder style pin box the pivot point is required to be locked out due to the lateral force exerted on the hitch, like the one your referenced # BWGNRK1108-5W, would cause it to rotate in the bed damaging the hitch and install kit. The option that will work for you is the
