Yakima CoreBar

The aerodynamic Yakima CoreBars let you build a quiet yet heavy-duty roof rack for your vehicle. The crossbars require 4 Yakima BaseLine, RidgeLine, SkyLine, or TimberLine towers and a custom fit kit to mount the rack to your roof. Each bar extends past the towers to maximize space for mounting carriers and accessories. The bars are constructed of galvanized steel so they can carry more weight than traditional aluminum aero bars. And they're coated in black vinyl to help prevent corrosion.

Aerodynamic Design

CoreBar TearDrop Design

The CoreBar's teardrop shape controls air flow over and under the bar to significantly decrease wind noise and vibration even at highway speeds. This lessens the need to add a fairing to your roof rack. The aero-style bar also reduces drag to help maintain fuel efficiency.

Heavy-Duty Steel Construction

CoreBar Galvanized Steel Construction

The Yakima CoreBar is constructed of roll-formed, galvanized steel. This heavy-duty steel construction enables the CoreBars to carry significantly more weight than traditional aluminum aero bars (up to 220 lbs depending on the weight capacity of your roof). The bars are also coated in black vinyl to protect them from corrosion.

Hassle-Free Installation

CoreBar with Adapater

The CoreBars install on any of Yakima's StreamLine towers - BaseLine, RidgeLine, SkyLine, or TimberLine - with included brackets. Just remove the endcaps, slide the brackets onto the bars, and replace the endcaps. Then place the bars on your towers with the brackets seated in the tower BarBeds. Use the torque tool included with the towers to tighten the bars in place.

Maximum Cargo Carrying Capacity

Full Length Corebar Crossbar

The full-length CoreBar extends past your towers to provide more space for mounting carriers and accessories on your roof. The CoreBar is also compatible with most universal, clamp-on carriers and accessories.

SkyLine Towers

The heavy-duty SkyLine towers allow you to mount 2 Yakima crossbars to your vehicle with fixed mounting points, flush side rails, or tracks. The towers adjust during installation to ensure your crossbars are level. The SkyLines' versatile BarBeds accommodate Yakima's full line of crossbars. The towers install with Yakima's Landing Pad system .

Versatile BarBed

SkyLine BarBed

The SkyLine's BarBed is specifically designed to work with Yakima's entire line of crossbars.

CoreBar CrossbarJetStream Crossbar

The BarBed is curved to accommodate the elliptical shape of the CoreBar and JetStream crossbar. The CoreBar includes brackets that slide over the bar and secure to the towers with bolts. The JetStream attaches directly to the tower with bolts.

RoundBar CrossbarRoundBar Adapter

The towers also work with Yakima RoundBars with adapters . The adapters slide over the bars and secure to the towers with bolts.

Torque Tool

The crossbars mount to the SkyLine towers with the included torque tool. The tool clicks 3 times once you've reached the correct amount of torque so you don't have to worry about over- or under-tightening.

Simple Installation with Landing Pads

SkyLine with LandingPad

The towers install with custom-fit Landing Pads . To mount a tower simply open the cover, set the tower on the Landing Pad, and close the cover.

SkyLine Cover

Mounting posts on the bottom of the tower extend when the cover is closed to lock the tower in place on the Landing Pad.

SkyLine Pitch Diagram

Each tower's pitch can be adjusted up to 6 degrees forward or backward during installation. This lets you create a level mounting surface for your gear even on a curved roof. Simply loosen the bolt near the top of the tower assembly, adjust the position of your bar, and then re-tighten the bolt.

Same Key System Locks

4 Pack SKS Lock Cores

SkyLine towers are compatible with Yakima SKS lock cores (Y07204 - sold separately) that allow you to secure the roof rack to your roof. The SKS locks are all keyed alike so a single key opens all the locks. The locks can also be swapped out to make all of your Yakima products keyed alike.

The Yakima roof rack system is an Outstanding product. I purchased the product to replace the OEM roof rack because it was too flimsy to carry the tandem bike mount and my bike. The Yakima roof rack is solid and provides me the peace of mind while hauling my bike on the roof of my car. etrailer provided the product for the best price as always.

Comments
Still an outstanding product.

Very happy with our purchase. We appreciated that etrailer offered real time delivery options as the racks were large and couldn't be left at our mailbox. I love how easily you can remove the entire rack easily. Too bad the locking mechanism comes separately but we are still happy with what we received.

2008 GMC Yukon XL

I am going to include the Landing Pads, Skyline Towers, LockNLoad adapters, and Pivoting Mounts that are all required for my vehicle in this review of the 84" x 54" LockNLoad Platform. First, I had done months of research trying to figure out what would work and meet my needs for a 2008 GMC Yukon XL. Without the help of etrailer's agent, Ashley, I'd probably still be trying to figure things out! Ashley was patient and thorough, she made sure I had all the parts I needed for a fairly complex (and large!)project. I cannot thank her enough! On to the assembly and installation: Ashley confirmed that following instructions was key to efficient building - I found that combining online instructions with the included hard copies worked best. As an example, the online fastener images and descriptions are far better than the paper ones. Then, having the paper instructions in hand made "in the moment" progress much faster. All of the Yakima parts fit together perfectly, and by methodically following the instructions (I cannot stress this enough!), including pre assembling Landing Pads, Towers, and Pivoting Mounts, there was no need to backtrack. Once I had a day to devote to the project, everything went very smoothly. Placing the large Platform on the mounts does require two people, but the rest was easy for one fairly handy person to accomplish. Making adjustments to be sure the Platform is centered and square to the roof took some time but it's worth it in the end. Again, thanks to etrailer and particularly Ashley! It was a pleasure doing business with you!

This rating is not related to the actual product. The Towers work as advertised - 5 stars, its the mounting of the Towers themselves that I am rating. Even with helpful videos etrailer has on their site, this was the hardest part of the assembly to add the roof rack I bought. Sadly, it took several hours and trial and error to get these to work. Now that they are on, they work great. Almost gave up on using the roof rack based on how difficult these were to get onto the cross bars and then on to the vehicle. Lots of cursing. I probably should have made a "how not to" video so people could watch and do the opposite of what I was doing. The videos I watched didn't match my experience. Their experience shows as in the videos 1-2-3-4 all done! I struggled mightily thru all 4 steps.

I have a Buick Envision and it seemed as if it would be difficult to get the correct rack, but it turned out to be easy. I entered my vehicle info and was directed to the Yakima Skyline with flush rails. It was easy to install and they look great. I will be able to take my canoe out with no problem! Joe

Installation was easy and instructions were clear. Fit an finish of the towers was good. I expect they'll be very suitable for my intended use, which is occasional carriage of a couple of kayaks or bicycles. They seem to be more robust than the OEM roof racks I saw when I was shopping for my 2020 Toyota Tacoma. I just wish Yakima would manufacture their stuff anywhere other than mainland China.

2016 Mazda 3

I have purchased several items from etrailer and have never been disappointed. Service is fast and efficient, and the employees -- especially Sal -- have gone out of their way to be helpful. I recently purchased a new 2016 Mazda 3, and the first item I purchased for it from e-trailer was a set of tire chains. Sal suggested Konig CA12 chains, which are easy to install and work perfectly. Later in the year, I wanted an easy-on, easy-off roof rack to car-top our kayaks, and Yakama towers and landing pads were suggested. I am very satisfied with them, as they have indeed proven to be very easy-on, easy-off. My only problem is with one of the tower locking mechanisms, which comes off while tightening it (see enlarged photo); however, it is a minor problem with Yakama, not etrailer.

2016 Subaru Forester

Very good product. The Yakama towers and cross bars feel very solid and appears to be high quality. Very easy install. Others have complained about the instructions, but guess I'm a visual person because the pictures all seemed very clear to me and the install was very easy. They do sit higher than I expected. After adding a Rhino Rack cargo basket, we only have about 4-5" clearance below the garage door.

Wonderful service from Kimberly at etrailer.com. I had ordered a roof rack in December for I car I had on order. Ultimately I purchased a different vehicle more than 3 months later and the roof rack and mounting parts were not compatible. I had no problem returning the unopened products and just needed to pay the postage. Kimberly made the process easy and seamless, making sure to send the new Yakama cross bars and necessary parts. It fits beautifully on my new car and setup was fairly simple with video support and step-by-step instructions.

I bought these products to install on my 2016 Ford Flex. I do not have the factory roof rails, and wanted a system that would install directly to the roof channels and not the door frame. Contrary to what the etrailer.com "expert" suggested, this product does just that. I ended up ignoring the "expert's" advice and ordered this. It installed perfectly and I am very happy with the result and the product.

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

So this is why I chose the Yakima, was for these towers. I had previously installed the Thule rack on our '16 Explorer, The Thule looked very factory but removal while not in use was not really an option. So this time for my wifes '18 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I went with the Yakima. While the rack is not in use, the rack and the 4 towers can all be easily removed in in 60 seconds leaving only the small landing pads on the roof rails and they are only slightly noticeable. The only issue I have with the pads is the fit and finish were they intersect with the factory support. You can clearly see in the pictures they do not sit flush with the rails. Overall though I am very pleased with the assembly as a whole and would recommend this over the Thule rack.

I carry a 10 ft. aluminum ladder on your rack for work and sometimes an extension ladder. It works fine. I like it. The only complaint is when its empty it makes a lot of noise. I figured if I ever use it without a ladder, as it doesn't make noise with the ladder on it, I'd split a piece of pvc pipe down the middle and mount that on the front of it. The only other thing is the plugs supplied to cover the hole if you do not buy the locks. One was busted when I got it. I called and the girl I talked to said she'd send me one. She never did so I have black electrical tape wrapped around the hole. Other than that they work fine.

These towers (Y00148) and the Landing Pads (Y00244) are needed to mount the cross-bars on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep has flush rails, with an open channel along the top. They are very heavy duty, typical of Yakima stuff. Worked great.

Do you have a question about this Roof Rack?

  • Cutting Down the Yakima Crossbars To Desired Length
  • The Timberline is actually the towers # Y00147, so you will either have the CoreBar crossbars # Y00421 or the JetStream # Y00426. You can trim these bars to a shorter length and I do recommend using a new hack saw blade to do so. The aluminum crossbar will cut easily so you will want to make sure you have a very straight cut and take it slow or you would easily mar your bars. Make sure you double check your fit before making any cuts.

The 2004-2009 Mazda 3 5dr Hatch vehicles came with pre-installed anchoring locations that this roof rack bolts too. I would double check and make sure you find those anchoring points on your vehicle.

  • Can Yakima Core Bar Roof Rack Crossbars Y00421 Be Cut Down in Length
  • Yakima's Core Bar roof rack crossbars # Y00421 can be cut to a specific length so long as you can make clean square cuts to allow re-installation of the bar end caps. You will probably also need to file the cuts to make them smooth and safe for handling. The Yakima roof racks confirmed to fit your 2018 Toyota RAV4 are shown on the page I linked for you. These racks use bar lengths of 48 or 50-inches.

  • Yakima Roof Rack System For Flush Rails On A 2021 Toyota Rav4
  • I understand how it can be overwhelming at first, but that's why I'm here! I do like the Yakima Skyline Towers # Y00148 so definitely get those. The Skyline towers need to mount to what they call a Landing Pad. For your 2021 Toyota Rav4 you need the Landing Pad 23 # Y98FR. The landing pad will use a threaded hole inside your tracks to secure it to your vehicle and the Skyline towers will connect to that!
