I have not bought car roof racks for decades--back when there were those very useful rain gutters. So I was shocked with the high prices. But what you get today is much more carefully engineered with a complicated construction. This Yakima version even comes with a manual 3.5 mm hex driver which turns out to be a torque wrench too. You use it 16 times, torquing to its limit, in installing the two cross rails on the four towers. Years ago you installed the towers where you wanted them on the rain gutters and adjusted the cross rails by sight. No more. You must go on line to Yakima. You must get the precisely engineered dimensions for your exact vehicle. You even adjust the towers for the roof slope and any toe-in of the roof line. Pay attention to the precise instructions. The result is very solid. I wish that I had more space between the cross rails. There is room for another 6 or 8 inches given where the door openings on my 2019 Toyota Highlander are spaced. But then the rear base clips would be different and that logistics would add yet more to the price. I am confident that I can secure a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood on the cross rails. And I will find my vehicle in the mall parking lot easier with those good looking rails. While I am happy with the end product, I wish the vendors had given more explanation of the fixed dimensions of today's installations. That would have helped make my on-line shopping less frustrating. Part of the problem is that Yakima and Thule do not provide cross rails for my LE Highlander's existing tower bases. And I could not get 60 inch cross rails on any of the versions that fit my LE's bases. 870481

So far this has been a great product except for the cover on one of the legs flew off and got all scuffed up on the road -- luckily my husband saw it and stopped but other than that it seems to work as it should, unfortunately, we have only been able to use it a few times. The videos here were great and really helped me install this onto a bare roof Traverse. Everything fits on nicely and I'm very happy with it. My only complaint is with Yakima's install design. In order to slide the bars and adjust their position, you have to loosen a bolt on the bottom of the towers. Which means every time I had to slightly adjust the fitting to make sure the towers were in the right spot, we had to undo the whole thing, loosen, slide the bars, tighten and put back on the roof. If they moved that bolt to the top, it would have saved a lot of time and made life much easier. But the overall product is great, it definitely beat paying thousands to upgrade to a higher trim model for the roof rails. 727480

Installation of the hitch, wiring,rear bike rack, and new roof rack towers went well. I didn't set any speed records, but I was more concerned with doing no damage on a new 2019 Toyota Sienna AWD van. The hitch fit up well per instructions except that I was able to work around the exhaust without lowering it. Underbody panel and rear fascia did both need to be removed. Ordered new towers and clips so as to use my old-school round bars (I bought these at least 18 years ago, maybe even earlier) and bike and canoe accessories on a new vehicle (naked roof 2018 CR-V). Installation was tedious, as usual, but not difficult and the written instructions were straightforward. Youtube helpful too but not necessary. Have hauled bikes and the canoe in high wind on the interstate (no more than 65 mph though) on the CR-V and so far so good. I am totally happy with the Yakima racks. I ordered the Core Bars for the 200lb capacity and the first order arrived damaged. I called etrailer and they provided excellent customer service and had replacements to me and double boxed for protection in 2 days! Very happy with the customer service at etrailer.com! Only reason for 4 stars is that the Core Bars are coated in plastic and after mounting my Malone j Style Kayak carriers, the plastic coating gets damaged. Maybe this would not happen with other attachments but this is my experience. 2-years into owning my system: I have had the rack on the vehicle for 2-years and never removed it. Every 3-4 months i check the performance of the base clips and they have never come lose. I think best practice is to always check the stability of the rack however i have never had a problem and the system has always stayed tight and firm. Its been a great system for the vehicle.

Baseline towers for a 2010 Toyota Prius. These mounted just fine after some minor adjustments to the surface mount, being sure to center these across the vehicle. They latch onto the door frame, and with the included torque wrench, these appear to be very stable and secure. Delivery and packaging was very good from etrailer. I did notice an annoying whistling at low speeds, and determined that the small linear spacing between the tower "doors" and the main unit was causing airflow to make noise. I used Gorilla tape to cover these linear spaces, and the noise subsided. 434748

Have been rocking my Yakima rack from etrailer.com for a year now. I am using rack in conjunction with a Tepui tent. Once I added the air deflector, I would say it's the perfect setup. The Yakima gives more clearance over the factory rack, so I was able to get my hands under it to secure the tent hardware. I ordered the Yakima RailGrab Kit with 48" round bars and the Gunwale Canoe Carrier Brackets on the advice of friends who have used a Yakima rack for years. I want to carry a canoe on my Subaru Forester, equipped with factory flush mounted rack, but needed something wider to hold my canoe, which is 38.5" at its center. This system is just the thing. It installs easily and the towers fit my the contours of my factory siderails perfectly. The Gunwale Brackets adjust with a twist-knob to snug up to the canoe for a secure fit. Once they're adjusted to the correct width, loading the canoe is easy-ever-after. Note: the endcaps are included in the RailGrab package, as are two cam straps, so you don't need to buy these. I have not bought car roof racks for decades--back when there were those very useful rain gutters. So I was shocked with the high prices. But what you get today is much more carefully engineered with a complicated construction. This Yakima version even comes with a manual 3.5 mm hex driver which turns out to be a torque wrench too. You use it 16 times, torquing to its limit, in installing the two cross rails on the four towers. Years ago you installed the towers where you wanted them on the rain gutters and adjusted the cross rails by sight. No more. You must go on line to Yakima. You must get the precisely engineered dimensions for your exact vehicle. You even adjust the towers for the roof slope and any toe-in of the roof line. Pay attention to the precise instructions. The result is very solid. I wish that I had more space between the cross rails. There is room for another 6 or 8 inches given where the door openings on my 2019 Toyota Highlander are spaced. But then the rear base clips would be different and that logistics would add yet more to the price. I am confident that I can secure a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood on the cross rails. And I will find my vehicle in the mall parking lot easier with those good looking rails. While I am happy with the end product, I wish the vendors had given more explanation of the fixed dimensions of today's installations. That would have helped make my on-line shopping less frustrating. Part of the problem is that Yakima and Thule do not provide cross rails for my LE Highlander's existing tower bases. And I could not get 60 inch cross rails on any of the versions that fit my LE's bases. 881162

I received the Rain gutter riser, 66' round bars, boat loader and SKS lock cores all well packaged and in good shape. These are for a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon. The products were easy to install and will work great for loading and transporting my Hobie Outfitter Kayak. The Outfitter is a heavy kayak at 75 lbs unloaded. The Yakama Boat loader makes it easy for one person to load and unload the kayak. The rain gutter mounts and round bars securely hold the kayak for transportation. I would give it 4 or 5 stars if it didn't make a really loud whistling noise at highway speeds. There are all these little holes to make it lightweight and somewhat flexible, but they make so much noise you can hear it above everything! The Yakima bars are a simple item. They fit my racks as I expected. Removing the existing bars and installing the longer bars took about 20 - 30 minutes. Using a tape measure to center the bars, and an allen wrench to tighten them in place were the only tools needed. After several times loading and unloading canoes, the covering on the bars is scuffed and gouged, but has held up well to the abuse I give it. They don't flex with loads strapped tightly to them. etrailer had the product in stock. Ordering on-line was quick, simple, and painless. Received the bars without damage and on time.
