Video Transcript for TorkLift Front Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at TorkLift's line of custom frame mounted camper tie downs for the front. You want to verify here at etrailer.com using our fit guide, which ones work best for your vehicle. There are sets also available that will fit your vehicle available for the rear. These custom mounted brackets are going to provide an easy attachment point to hook up your camper. What's additionally great about those is that they have the removable ends. So when you're not using it, they'll be hidden away, and your vehicle will look like factory. The custom mounted brackets we're engineered to provide you with the best location for your tie down point to even distribute the load.

So, once they're attached, and adjusted. This'll keep your camper from being too top heavy. This'll increase the overall ride quality while you're campers attached, and the safety. It's made of a durable steel with a black powder coat finish, which'll ensure that you have a strong attachment point, and it'll be highly resistant to corrosion. When you are ready to use them, you can just slide in the attachment point. There's two points here to attach your turn buckles, and here on the shaft there are two points that will give you an adjustment inward, and outward, to specifically fit your camper.

So, you can use this hole for a wider camper, or this hole for an aero camper. Once you've got your appropriate hole, slide the pin through, and bring the latch over, and lock it in place. Then you can attach your turn buckles. Now if you need some turn buckles you can pick them up here at etrailer.com. There are many a different styles. From chain types, to quick attach lever types.

Our style is going to a be a threaded rod type that will hook to your camper, and down to our attachment point. We'll adjust it snug by turning our turn buckle here. With our passenger side done, we'll repeat that same step on our driver's side.Compared to stake pocket, our bumper mounted camper tie downs, frame mounted tie downs will provide better handling. They also mount out of sight, giving your truck a cleaner look, because the custom fit brackets secure tight against your trucks frame there is no loss of ground clearance. That completes our look at TorkLift's line of custom frame mounted camper tie downs for the front..

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

Bolted right on. Had an issue with off-road clearance with the D2127 mounts because of the downward angle they take to clear the full length running boards I had installed on my truck. This resulted in damage to the mount itself (NFS roads can be kind of rough here in Wyoming) So my fix was to pull the running boards off, and order the D2126 mounts, which you will not loose any ground clearance with because they come straight out at 90° angle. Both the D2126 and D2127 mount in exactly the same spot. On the Driver's side one you may find it easier to chock your truck (My Ram 3500 is a 6spd Manual) and release the parking brakes to gain some slack in the cable that you have to work around getting the mount in position. My truck also has factory airbags, but both types of mounts can be used due to where they bolt on. So the only difference is that the D2127 angles down a little to clear running boards, and the D2126 comes straight out. And another thing on the D2127 because of the downward angle; with the Torklift springload turnbuckle you may find them a hair too short and it may require use of a quick link to have enough length to get the ends of the turnbuckle hooked...at least on my camper I did. Overall I'm please with both of these tiedown models for ease of installation, operation, and build quality. It was my own fault for damaging the original one going over a hump in the forest road that my truck didn't clear all the way. And as to etrailer. I would definitely order from them again. I had trouble finding the D2126 on the website and called and was talking with a sells rep when I finally found them on the site. But he took my order over the phone anyway at around 1pm on Monday, got an email about three hours later saying they were shipped. Package arrived on my doorstep Wednesday. Very fast service and shipping. Just info on my truck if you are looking for the correct front mounts to use: 2017 Ram 3500, 6sp manual, 8' bed, crew cab, 4wd, SWD, factory airbags, wheel to wheel running boards (D2127), no running boards (D2126) 525654

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

I haven’t used these with my camper but I think I will be happy with the outcome. The install was more difficult than I hoped. The passenger front mount went on easy. I did buy a long 6 inch bolt to go all the way through the frame. I read afterwards that you can turn the washer 45 degrees to get it though the first hole in the frame. The drivers side was a huge issue. The gas tank on the 2017 super duty is against the frame so it was impossible to get a bolt through without removing the tank. The hole at the bottom was too small and didn’t line up with the top bolt. I could of drilled all the way through the fre but was afraid of puncturing the plastic gas tank. So the simplest fix was to buy a 3/8 drill and tap. I drilled a hole in the frame down low and taped it out and installed a bolt with 3/8 threads. It worked fine but I didn’t really want to drill a hole in the frame of my new truck. If I had it to do over, I would have it professionally installed and gladly paid up to 300 to not have to hassle with it. I included a pic of the bolt I drilled and taped in the frame. It wouldnt be too bad of a job if I knew from the beginning what I needed. If you are not moderately mechanical don’t even try this install yourself. The technical support number was a joke don’t waste your time. I also had to buy a 1 1/4 “wrench and 1 3/8” socket. You gotta hammer it loose with a small sledge. Or you can impact it off with a deep 1 1/4 socket. I just couldn’t find the deep socket I needed at the nearest Lowes. 554290

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

This product is made to fit several versions the Ford F250- mine is a 2002 model. This attached to the factory installed hitch just as it said it would. The only derivation came when I went to attach the bracket which locks over the bolt and existing crossbar. The angle of the bolt did not match the angle of the fitting, so it does not quite fit as snug as I would like. Nonetheless, it holds well so far, being that the acorn nut tightens down and locks things in place. I hauled a 1 ton slide-in camper 60 miles without any hassle. This product does what Etrailer said it would, and along with its counterparts in the front of my truck box, - also an etrailer purchase- I have no worries about summer camping season! I am a satisfied customer. 127013

Ive put over a thousand miles on the truck and camper last season. My etrailer purchase of the torklift product continues to be a reliable system of box-camper stability.

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

I took a long time in writing this review as I wanted to be able to test the product fully. In installing the Tie-Downs, the instructions are pretty vague when it comes to fishing the one bolt through the frame. What is not mentioned is that the position of the large washer that is on the bolt while having to be fitted through the hole makes the difference of getting the bolt through the hole or not. One reviewer said that he had to widen the hole in order to get the bolt through, I too had widened the hole a little, until I realized that it was the washer that was keeping the bolt from going through. The washer needs to be at a 45 degree angle allowing the bolt to be able to gain the extra room against the top of the frame to properly go through the hole. I know this does not sound clear, but what I say will make sense when you are under the truck fishing the bolt through the frame. That said, after mounting, the Tie-Downs were very secure and all parts looked great. I was worried that the rear passenger side Tie-Down would hit the wide diesel exhaust. It fit perfectly in the space between the exhaust pipe and the frame with no modifications needed, great design and engineering. The Tie-Downs hold my truck camper great, secure and steady. Great product. The bed mat fit perfectly as well. Exactly what is needed for the truck camper. 193733

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

I really don't write reviews often but when everything is perfect is worth the time. I am a repeat Etrailer customer so it didn't surprise me that my shipment was complete and received in two days. These TorkLift frame mounted camper tie-downs are high-quality, heavy duty and powder coated. I put a full set on my new 2016 Ford F350 SRW 4 X 4 and will be using them with a Lance 855S truck camper. Installation went flawless without any drilling or adjustments. Instructions were clear and to the point. The most important benefit to the product is that your camper is held to your truck by the frame and not the bed and bumper. This reduces camper sway, movement and stress on the truck body. As far as appearance the tie down arms are removable for when the camper is not in use. This sure beats drilling holes in your truck bed, bumper and attaching brackets that permanently stay on the truck. Hats off to etrailer and TorkLift! 427826

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

I did have to work on a couple of holes with a file to enlarge them just a little so the factory bolts off the bumper bracket would fit through them, but aside from that this is a simple bolt on tie down which requires no drilling at all. I called etrailer about these tie downs because our RAM is a 2018 model and there is currently no listing for TorkLift tie-downs for 2018 RAM trucks, either on eTrailer or on the TorkLift site. eTrailer contacted TorklLift to ask if they are warranted to fit 2018 RAM trucks, but they were unable to confirm that. Having just installed these on our 2018, I can now confirm it that they do indeed fit. There have been no dimensional changes to the 2018 models which affect the location these tie-downs are designed to fit, so they install just fine. Straight bolt up application with no drilling required. You will need a decently long wrench, or a cheater bar of some kind, to undo the factory bolts on bumper brackets, 'cos those rascals are pretty big and pretty tight, but aside from that, it's a piece of cake. This is the way to go for tying down a camper of any real size and weight. Those "button" anchor points that install in the bumper itself are no match for the strength and overall sturdiness of these TorkLifts. Heavy gauge steel throughout. 460851

The order arrived earlier than expected and was complete. An excellent job of engineering; all the components worked perfectly with my 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 dually. There was some minor filing that had to be done on 2 of the bracket holes to allow the bolts to fit through; I suspect it was just the powder coating. However no modifications to the truck were required. The entire project took about 2 hours from start to finish. 561848

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

Installed on a 2014 F350 with a factory installed hitch. Very easy to install the rear tie-downs. Directions suggest using a hammer and chisel to remove the excess welding flash inside the ends of the factory hitch. A rotary tool (dremel) with a grinding bit is a much better tool. Removes the flash and smoothes the insides for the forklift sleeves to slide in. I suggest hitting it with a coat of paint over the newly exposed metal; prevent rust. 195203

1 year update: Installation was a snap. Put 15,000 miles 25 States, 20 National Parks on the campertie-downs and they have worked great. When not using they come off and are stored away in 5 minutes. Ive seen lots of different set-ups on the road and this one is by far the best and worth every penny.

I had been told they were a pain to install, but that was not my experience. I had both front tie downs installed and tightened slightly more than an hour, and that was laying under the truck on a gravel driveway. Very heavy duty product and a perfect fit. 460853

We couldn't be happier with the Torklift Camper Tiedowns. Install time was minimal and fit and finish couldn't be better. Bolt fishing the frame on the passenger-side of a 2017 F350, is slightly different than the instructions suggest. But, you can't blame Torklift for not being able to keep up with every Ford engineer who gets a wild hair, to slot a new hole in the frame on Friday @ beer-thirty. For any buyers who have an F350, SRW, long box, with running boards that extend into the bed: don't panic! Even though the drop down menu doesn't give you the option, the Torklift: TLF2021 kit will still clear the step PERFECTLY! (See picture) Thanks again, etrailer. Ordering was a breeze, the package tracker was awesome and communication was excellent. 411185

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Front in Camper Tie-Downs

Etrailer delivery was great. The torklift product F2011 on my 2010 F250 went along very easy, for a mildly experienced homeowner. One issue on the product. The 5/8 Hook Brackets that attach the device to the frame. I needed to use a metal file at a weld point so the 1/2 inch bolt would pass through. Torklift quality control really should have caught this issue. No big deal to correct with a metal file. May have held me up 5 minutes. Another issue with the product I found several pinpoint areas on the standard bent inserts that if left would break the skin. A tap with a wrench which was handy knocked them down. Just a finish issue. Looking forward to my Truck Camper in a couple of months when my custom built will be complete. On the bright side of the Torklift F2011 it went on with none of the problems seen on youtube. No fishing for bolts. Maybe it is just the 2010 Ford F250 build that fit well but made all the difference. 335994

I have a 2018 model F450 so was a little hesitant due to the year not coming up as an option. The fit was fine with perfect alignment, though, and the extensions worked with the open backed factory running boards. I assume the finish was fine at the factory but there was some scuffing on the parts by the time they got to my door. The work around for getting the bolts situated in a boxed frame was a bit of a pain. Unlike the videos where the tech walks up to the frame on a lift, most guys will end up on their backs under the truck trying to feed little wires through at an angle from hole to hole. Hint: I used a small flex gripper to grab the "threads" and pulled the puller. It was a little stiffer and more manageable. Ever think of a heavy duty winged bolt similar to those used for drywall? That would make the installation much easier. 506254

Installed on Chevy 2018 3500HD with factory nerf bars. Gnarly installation. Drivers side was difficult. There was one bolt that I couldn't access the back side because the gas tank is in the way. I was able to install these but I'd recommend professional installation. Holes in brackets do no line up well, like 3/8" off. Driver's side bracket also interferes with the park brake cable, instructions have you zip tie the park brake cable to the hose above, so when the park brake is actuated it moves the hose along with the cable. This shouldn't be done like this. Overall, poor engineering. 476724

The Torklift True Frame Mounted Camper Tie Downs I purchased for my 2004 F350 with single rear wheels seem to be constructed out of sufficient steel gauge and grade of steel to adequately hold a camper in the truck bed. This method of securing a camper to the bed of the pick up is probably the most secure method available because it does not rely on the strength and integrity of the bed walls. My experience with this Ford is that the pickup bed is not designed for certain weight bearing applications and such as supporting heavy overhead racks on rough roads. They are also probably not designed to handle the forces that may occur on rough roads, during an emergency maneuver, or during even a minor collision with a bed mount system. The same is probably true for Dodge and Chevy. 131690

Review from a similar Frame-Mounted Rear in Camper Tie-Downs

I've had these tie downs for a year now and they are still great. I'm using them on a custom installation so while I can't speak about fitment for your camper or truck; they still look great. They've been in mud and salt and still look great when hosed off. Torklift obviously does great powder coating. Mine are on an earlier truck (1981 K3500 dually) and while I modified my frame and Torklifts hitch in the truck build, the tie downs themselves are unmodified and went on super easy. I don't remove the outer post when not using the camper as they're not in the way ( maybe on a single wheel truck they would be). And I haven't heard them rattling, but mine isn't a quiet a truck. Wish Torklift made a good front mount solution too. My belly bar isn't as elegant as Torklifts mounts. 430048

Thank you so much for the well crafted tie downs. I installed 3 of the 4 at a friend's car shop with few problems. Your videos were a help in general understanding with the written directions helping for specifics. The 4th tie down will have to go to an auto shop, as the gas tank is snug against the frame. The star washers were a little weird. The star pattern on the inside ring seemed to be pointed in one direction only and wouldn't bite on one of the bolts. Fortunately, this was a bolt that we could access from the other side to jam to prevent turning (with much trial & error). We chose to use one of our stock lock washers on the next one to prevent that from happening. This would have been tough if it happened on the fished in bolt, we were lucky. 508847

Install was straight forward and simple. I respect the use of paper for the protective packing material, but the mounts were somewhat scraped up upon arrival. Nothing that some spray paint didn't fix up easily. And for the rear mounts on my 2016 Nissan Titan XD, TorkLift could have supplied the correct amount of washers. There were the correct amount as per shipped in instructions, but the mounts require a total of 6 washers, not 4. And the one rear mount was a little out of square. The front mounts went on with no issues. I think TorkLift could have raised up the receiver part of the mount, so that I could still use my stock Nissan running boards. In order to use the front mount, I had to completely remove both running boards. 398843

I ordered camper tie-downs from e-Trailer for my 2017 F250 SuperCrew and have to say that my experience was a very positive one. Since I was planning to install them myself I reviewed the guidance made available to me from e-Trailer before the delivery. I the found guidance to be very helpful and reviewing it ensured that I was well prepared to do the install. When my tie-downs were delivered the installment went very well and there were really no surprises. I found the Torklift products to be very well made and they perform as expected. Thanks e-Trailer and Torklift! Sincerely, William Blevins Stafford, VA 570487

This is a great frame mounted solution for 1st gen Toyota Tacoma trucks. The kit included all that was needed for the install if you have a few wrenches and a 3/4' deep socket. The install took less than an hour. I also want to mention that the crew at etrailer are top notch and Chris, John, and George were exceptionally responsive and helpful. Furthermore the staff at TorkLift were accessible and even reviewed photographs to ensure the kit would fit my particular vehicle. If you drive an older vehicle I'd also recommend planning on cleaning up your frame with a wire brush and rust preventive paint before installation. 446499

These are the front Torklift tie-downs. I installed these on a Ford 2015 F-350 DRW 4x4 Extended Cab. They fit and work great and were strait forward to install, the instructions are good and the videos help. As with all these kinds of builds, it better when you read through he whole thing and think about where all the parts go before even starting, helps to frame a picture of what the end product will look like and what challenges you will have along the way. I like all these Torklift products, I've used them since the late 90s. Good luck 321341

Thanks again, etrailer. Ordering was a breeze, the package tracker was awesome and communication was excellent. 409118

This is my second set of Torklift frame mounted front and rear camper tie downs. My first set was mounted on a 1995 Ford F250 and hauled a 3800 pound Alpenlite Cabover camper. I drove this rig on very rough ungraded dirt roads which included washed out dry creek crossings. I was absolutely impressed with the Torklift, hence my second set on a 2015 Tacoma to haul a 2004 Six-Pac. Its nice in this day of poorly made off shore products that you can still buy a fairly priced very high quality product. 219425

As always shipped fast and at a reasonable price. My only comment would be why etrailer does not use distribution local to the recipient. The tie downs are made within miles of where I live, and distributed by wholesalers here locally. However this order was shipped to me all the way across country. Other automotive on-line retailers use local distribution points. I order from etrailer due to past customer service, which has been outstanding. It by far offsets a few days of shipping time. 157356

Installed on a Curt 2 1/2 receiver just put on my F350 SD Supercab Diesel SRW 4x4. This bracket does fit this truck with the Curt receiver. I found a little oil on the drill bits and a reamer to remove the last bit of metal from the holes in the receiver helped mount the brackets. 411749

TorkLift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs - Rear are mounted to my Torklift 20K hitch, easy to mount, worked flawlessly to hold down our camper. Only issue is the bolts that came with the 20K hitch for the tubes are to short for the tubes and hitch you must use the extra bolts (2" grade 8) that come with the hitch. 177160

Great product. Install was pretty easy. The only snag was trying to tighten the nut on the bolt that you use the fish wire for on the front driver side. There's no way to hold the head of the bolt while you're tightening the nut so I used a pry bar between the frame and the receiver plate to create tension on the bolt and hold it while I tightened the nut. Also, remember to disengage your parking break before installing the front driver side so that the cable is loose. 504795

These tie-down supports are sturdy. Istallation was a bit of a challenge and required holes to be drilled to bolt the upper and lower pieces together, because where they matched up there wasn't a hole. I'm not sure if this was missed or done intentionally to allow for proper alignment first. These were advertised as "no drilling required" but that was not the case. Luckly I am somewhat mechanically inclined. If not, I advise a professional does the install. 424494

I bought the N3404 Tork Lift camper tie downs for a 2016 Nissan Titan XD diesel. The quality of the product was great, it fit perfectly. However, the instructions failed to state where the star washers should go.... Also, the hardware kit was missing two 1/2" stainless steel flat washers. So, because of the poorly written instructions and the missing pieces, I give the product only 4 stars. Etrailer gets 5 stars as usual for service and follow through. 318129

Fit really well. These tie downs are well made. One problem if you are worried about clearance the front are lower than the running boards and could cause problems in rough country . This is even when the extension are removed. That being said they hold a big camper very solid. I have carried a large camper with bed and bumper tie downs and there is no comparison to these frame mounts. I would strongly recommend a frame mount. Bob 314250
