Secure, 2-Piece, Serrated Jaw

Serrated Jaw of the Reese R20

The dual-jaw system on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch ensures full 360-degree contact around your trailer's king pin for a strong, reliable connection. Unlike traditional spring-loaded, dual-jaw systems, the R20 features serrated jaws for maximum security. The geared teeth ensure that every time you use this hitch, the jaws will close evenly to form a perfect circle around your trailer's king pin, providing a consistently tight connection. By surrounding the king pin entirely - with direct jaw-to-king-pin contact - the R20 allows far less movement in the hitch than other fifth-wheel hitches, resulting in minimal jarring and chucking.

Quiet, Comfortable Ride

Vibration Dampener of the Reese R20

The R20 offers several unique features that help to create a smooth, quiet fifth-wheel towing experience. Aside from the two-piece jaw that offers a firm and secure connection, stability is also increased by having wide-stance, arched legs and a pivot beam with a wide front-to-back mounting configuration. The pivot beam also has a built-in, heavy-duty vibration-isolator system that dampens both vertical and longitudinal vibration, the result of which is less noise and a better ride.

Locking Handle and King Pin Indicator

The R20 features an easy-to-use locking handle with a built-in visual indicator to ensure proper hookup. When the trailer's king pin is in position within the jaws of the hitch, a green indicator button is visible on the back of the fifth-wheel head. This button can be easily seen from the cab of your truck.

Strength and Durability

The R20 was designed with strength and durability in mind. Sturdy steel and various hardened, cast components make up this fifth-wheel trailer hitch that, despite its weight rating, offers commercial-grade towing strength. Extensive testing demonstrated that the R20 is compliant with the criteria (SAE J2638) set forth by the Society of Automotive Engineers for fifth-wheel trailer hitch performance. In addition, this fifth-wheel trailer hitch passed 900,000 cycles in both fatigue and static testing, attesting to its durability.

To increase the lasting effectiveness of your hitch, Reese has included a custom-fit lube plate with the R20. This lube plate provides a smooth surface to help the king pin glide smoothly into the hitch during hookup. It also helps to prevent scratches on the R20's top plate. Grease pockets are integrated into the R20 fifth-wheel trailer hitch so that you can easily maintain the effectiveness of the lube plate.

Note: Lube plate can be removed to fit some applications.

Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel RP30867 Review

Today were going to review part number rp30867. This is the Reese R20 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with the fixed legs. This is a 20,000 pound weight capacity hitch. This fifth wheel hitch will mount in your truck bed so you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. As you can see right here, has the cast dual-jaw system, which will provide more jaw-to-king-pin contact than your traditional dual-jaw hitches. The geared teeth right down here will ensure even, secure closure for full 360-degree contact.

The secure connection means minimal jarring and chucking. It has a nine-inch wide, two-point European-style funnel, which makes it simple to guide the king pin into the hitch. And it will work great even if trailer or the tow vehicle are not in a straight line. The four-way pivoting head will ease hookup, and even on unlevel ground has a five-Degree side-to-side pivot and it pivots front-to-back also. Single-piece legs with the wide stance provide excellent stability.

The head is held onto the crossmember by a single cast pivot beam. Has the heavy-duty vibration dampeners which will minimize rattle and noise even on rough terrain. Ill just show you those dampeners, turn it to the side here. If I raise the head, youll be able to see the hard yellow rubber, which is a dampener. Theres one on this side, one on this side.

And on the very back Ill show you. You should be able to see right here, the yellow, thats the dampener, and over here on the other side is the dampener also. So you got one here, one over here, one here, and one here. Thatll help minimize rattle and noise even on rough terrain. I also want to show you on the side, you can adjust the hitch height.

If you look here on the side the crossmember has four sets of holes that you can bolt onto the fixed legs. Right now, I have it in the lowest position, which would be 14 inches above the truck bed. If you go to the very bottom one, which would raise it 18 inches above the truck bed. Also, the holes on the fixed legs are elongated, so there is a play of you can move this crossmember one inch front or rear to help gain any cab clearance. This hitch is compatible with slider or Sidewinders if additional clearance is needed. The lockable handle, let me show you on this side. Right here youll see the handle right now is in the lock position. See, its color-coded. The green pointing down means its locked. If you pull it up, the red going up is unlocked. Thatll allow you to open up the hitch. As you can see right there, now the dual-jaws are open. When the king pin slides in, theres a green tab right in there that that king pin will push in on that green tab. When the jaws go around the king pin, you can turn the handle down and theres a hole here you can put a pin and lock through or pin and clip, or you can even put a padlock through there. Padlock would be sold separately for additional security. On the very back, I was mentioning that green pin in the head there when that is pushed all the way. When that king pin slides in and pushes that green tab, as you can see it will actually pop out this indicator on the back of the hitch, and thats what youll be able to see from the rear window of your truck cab. When the screen is popped out, that means that your king pin is fully installed into the hitch head, so that visible indicator will let you determine whether its fully engaged or not. This hitch is a sturdy, powder coated steel which is corrosion resistant. Now for demonstration purposes, I do have it mounted on rails and brackets, but the base rails and installation kit are sold separately. It will work with industry-standard, above-bed rails made by Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Pro Series, Reese, and Valley, and you can simplify installation with a vehicle-specific bracket kit. Gross towing weight on this is 20,000 pounds. The vertical load limit is 5,000 pounds. I mentioned the hitch height can go anywhere from 14 to 18 inches, has a limited lifetime warrantee, and one last little feature. If youll notice, it has a black plastic lube plate already installed on the head. Nice thing about that is it will give you the protection of the head from getting scratched. It will also help when the king pin is sliding into attach, it helps the fifth wheel slide easily. Also, there are little pockets right here that you should be able to see on here and those are grease pockets. You can put grease on there and they will settle in there and give you good lubrication on the hitch head. That should do it for review on part number rp30867.

I bought this hitch and the 50140-58 custom rail kit for my 2009 Dodge 2500 Quad with a short bed. I had read several reviews that stated how "quiet" the hitch is because of the rubber isolation dampeners at the pivot points. I had also read how easy it is to "hookup". Yes and yes! While the R16 would have been plenty sufficient for my needs, the R20 includes the lube plate (form fitted to the fifth wheel) that is a $50 item that you must purchase extra for the R16. And, by specification, the R20 gives you 25% more capacity...for about $75. While the entire assembly is pretty heavy, it is very easily disassembled into three manageable pieces by removing three linchpins. We just completed a 6000 mile journey and did have one "problem"; the vibration isolators for fore and aft motion of the head (the fifth wheel) on the cross member (the blue piece) were not holding up even though my trailer's weight was 13K with a 2.5K pin weight...the yellow rubber material seemed too soft. Etrailer jumped right on it, when I contacted them. They put me in touch with Reese, who next-dayed the "orange" replacements (part #58516) to me along my route, at no cost, of course. When things go perfectly you will always be happy with a company and their products, but what they do in a "crisis" is what makes the difference. Etrailer and Reese are #1 in this regard! 130978

I ordered this for a ford f150 and laid it out as specified, measurments and then re checked them to be sure of where i had to drill marked all holes as specified in the data information sheet drilled the bed holes and started to install the bolts 2 holes were miss identified and when i went to install the brackets they would not fit in correct position had to reverse the brackets to go inward instead of outward which was a pain inthe a-- to get in and tighten the nuts the 2 rearward bolts are drilled close to the emmison tank and neither one can be torqued let alone to the 85 ft pds trcommended the most rear is directlu above the tank and should be noted in the instructions as you cant see it unless on a hoist this is a saftey hazzard because a drill could go thru it and cause an explosion there should be a specific note to this problem i dare to say who ever wrote these instructions has never attempted to install one of these kits or he would be cusing himself a friend of mine recommended you people service and delivery were good but instructions and installation sucks thank and you have a good day 147975

I am very impressed with the fit and finish. Packaging from etrailer.com was inadequate. UPS man unloaded the package, rang the doorbell and drove away before I got outside. There was a lock washer laying on the ground and a bracket was hanging out of the box. We opened the package and inventoried everything, and to my amazement everything was there. Ordering process was very easy and my order shipped quickly. While on my lunch break at work I added 6 items to my cart and printed it so I could complete the order when I got home. About 4 hours later 3 of the 6 items increased in price. This hitch increased in price by $2, not a big deal I guess. I was able to find this item about $12 cheaper at another retailer and I provided this information to etrailer.com. Within a few hours they refunded me 110% of the difference. I am installing this on a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 short bed and the instructions are lacking. Maybe a professional installer who has done this many times would not have any problems, but the instructions leave some things to your imagination. 336456

Installed these rails with the short bed Reese bracket kit for 2015 or newer f150. Installation went well. Instructions were pretty straight forward but measurements from end of bed were not quite right and put the rails too far forward of the underbed brackets by about 2". I actually measured off the cross rails under the bed of the truck after I had installed the brackets. Helpful hint: after getting a hole drilled on either side of the front rail to secure it to brackets under bed, put the hitch on both rails which will line up the rear rail exactly right then drill the rest of your mounting holes. The included spacers are not quite thick enough and have come out from between the rails and bottom of the bed a few times even after I tightened bolts so much, bed started to bend. Have to find some other Shem's to make it tight enough. I would recommend these rails eventhough it took a little bit to get them in the right location. PS - Be very careful when drilling holes on driver side as you are right over the gas tank. 259709

The kit arrived very quickly, in fact shipping was moved from "5 to 7 days" to "3 to 5 days"and arrived in 5 day. During Christmas rush this was great, and really appreciated. I ask a technician friend to install it for me. It went together very nicely. I am rating this as EXCELLENT, do to the ease of installation an the escallation of the shipping arrangement. Thank You for a great product and great service. LGK satisfied customer 111867

Installed easily. I let my son-in-law do the lifting! Arrived fast and undamaged. Far superior to the 15K Pro series I had. It was junk after 2 and a half years. This makes NO noise when pulling my 38 foot 5th wheel. 208600

Its been a year now. I bought this hitch half way through a 8000 mile 105 night trip because my previous slide gate hitch failed. The Reese has never let me down. Were out at least a week every month. Should of bought this the first time around!

I have a 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab 5'6" bed. With 62yr old with a mechanical background I found the rails installation not to be a problem. I read the instructions and watched the video first which help greatly on what to expect. The only thing I did differently is I removed the entire heat shield above the exhaust prior to installation for better access. I also removed the spare tire. Jacked up the truck and placed Jack stands on the frame letting the rear axle hang free off the ground about an inch. This allowed for easy access to the frame for drilling and bolting the brackets without removing the tires. The previous review of only 2 hr install sounds a bit far fetched unless the person has done this job several time before. I believe you would expect a 4-6 hr install, not rushing through it. 359985

I not giving "excellent" yet because I haven't pulled with the RV but I'm sure it will be great. Packaging a little beat but product was in great shape. Assembly straight forward and easy. Etrailer customer service readily available and pleasant. 231560

I installed the kit on a 1997 Dodge 2500. Everything worked exactly as the instructions indicated for my model. I had an existing gooseneck hitch installed, so I needed to make a few modifications to install this kit, but everything worked great. 214640

When the hitch arrived, it was loose inside the carton, not until later and after installation I noticed that one of the pegs that guides the in and out locking lever was slightly bent. It rubes on the lever and is still slightly difficult to operate in and out. The bent material seems to be cast iron so I did not attempt to straighten it. I am not sure if this is what makes it difficult to slide the lever in and out. Most of the time I have to jockey my truck forward and backward to obtain locking of the hitch pin. One other issue is with the Reese metal decals on the hitch body, within a month most of them were curling up and peeling off, not good advertising. If you can give me some helpful hints on how to fix the hitch I would appreciate it. Thank you 414513

I just finished mounting the Reese R20 in my 2011 GMC Duamax as seen in the attached photo. I found the instructions and drawings to be very good. The installation was straight forward. This hitch replaced an older (1990) hitch which did not have side to side articulation. I am looking forward to the additional flexibility when unhitching and hitching on uneven ground. Thanks for the reference page, particularly the installation video. It was a pleasure doing business with etrailer. 112010

The rails are solid and work as expected. Unfortunately it was not clear to me from the description at that "universal" meant that you need to drill through the frame to install and that there was a custom bracket available as an alternative that lines up with existing holes in the frame. While they were very helpful and willing to do a return, the cost of shipping the new product and returning the old made the whole transaction a costly mistake. 106438

Im planing to buy the same rails for my dodge diesel 2005 full box but do not want to make the same mistake so what kind of bracket and are they a must or makes it safer? thanks

-- comment by: Sid - 12/31/2013

The brackets are not necessarily safer, but they are easier to install. They require less, and in some cases, no drilling through the frame in order to install. For a 2005 Ram 2500 with 8 foot bed, you would use part RP50140-58. This kit includes the custom fit brackets that attach to the frame as well as the rails that sit in the bed of the truck where the fifth wheel secures. No matter what, you will need to drill through the bed on any of these kits. I have also included a link to a video of this kit being installed on a 2006 Ram.

purchased just the rails for 5th wheel receiver as we bought a used camper and the Reese Easy Loader came with it but owner did not want to remove rails from their truck. Technician was excellent in helping with installation and emailed us directions specific to my truck. Shipping was quick and install went well. We had room to use 12 bolts vs 10 so we did. We did install 1" forward in bed as we had room to do it. Better more forward when hauling. The knurled bolts were too short for our truck bed and we called and let them know. We had our own that were longer so no delay in install. 282744

Fantastic!! In fact we just removed the hitch for the first time and rails are no issue in truck bed. Easy ineasy out after rails installed.

I just finished test fitting all the components of the system and found it very easy and enjoyable. The only problem I noticed was the packaging was far from robust enough to handle the product. Three of the four box's were severely damaged and were only held together by a mass amount of packing tape which made opening tough. I should have taken pictures my mistake, but wanted too make sure all components were present and accounted for which they were. Great system and was a pleasure to deal with, thanks for the great product and will sent pictures when installed in truck... 391532

We recently installed a Curt Q24 Dual Jaw 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch (C16245) using a Reese 10 Bolt Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit (RP30035). Installation went VERY well with no complications. We wanted a 'Super Duty' 5th wheel hitch for our Ford F350 Super Duty pickup and this Curt Q24 with its 24,000 pound towing capacity is everything we were looking for. Thanks etrailer for making this hitch so affordable. We've prepared all of our family's vehicles for towing over the last ten plus years through etrailer and have NEVER been disappointed. Thanks again! 310734

I ordered this Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for my 5th Wheel Hitch on a Monday afternoon and it was in my home Wednesday afternoon. I received a quick response from etrailer.com that my order was received and shipped. I have not had this quick response or shipping ever when ordering from any other company. The parts were all exactly what I needed and installed with ease. I am excited with how professional etrailer.com was and I "Highly Recommend" this company for your trailer needs. etrailer.com is the first place I will shop for my 5th wheel needs. 163588

I recently purchased a new to me GMC 2008 3500. It already had a 5th wheel hitch which made all kinds of noise and was a pain to hook up and unhook. My earlier truck had a Reese 18K Signature hitch which I did like so I figured I would go back with a Reese hitch. I ordered this hitch and as always it showed up in a few days from E trailer! It drop right in the rails in the bed. Very simple to use, no funny noises from the hitch. Connecting and I connecting could not be simpler. It's the best fifth wheel hitch I have ever used!! 262505

I purchased this hitch kit along with a set of mirrors. I was surprised that my shipment was upgraded to a faster arrival date for no additional fee-but then the shipment arrived one day early! Great service from etrailer, thank you. I have audited the parts in the shipment and found them to be all there (and quite strong appearing), but I haven't been able to get to the installation just yet. With included instructions and hardware I expect no problem with the installation. Overall, very happy with the product and the service. 44976

I upgraded my RV to a 42 foot with 4 slides. I also needed to upgrade my hitch so I decided to try the Reese Titan. I can tell you that this is the best 5th Wheel Hitch I have ever used and I have had several different brands. This hitch has eliminated the normal jerking and metal clanking that comes with other 5th wheel hitches. I have used it for a year now and would recommend to anyone that has a 5th wheel trailer to get one, you will never use a regular one again. I know I won't . 283574

Product was delivered on time. The boxes that the three (3) parts came in were hammered and one of the parts bags was subsequently opened - fortunately, the parts were kept in the box - UPS did a wonderful job of taping the box. It would seem that you all would put a bit more effort into designing a system that better handles these bulky/heavy pieces for shipment. Overall, easy to install (thanks to the video) - about 3-4 hours and I am ready to hook up my 5th wheel. 205946

This is a nice heavy duty hitch but a bit cumbersome when hitching and un hitching herd to get fully locked have to move vehicle back and forth then the handle will fully lock coming from an older Reese hitch which was a breeze to hitch surprised me. I also have issues with this hitch fitting my rail have to loosen the head mounting bolts to get it to fully go into the base rails then I tighten the bolts and leave the hitch in the truck for the camping season 277809

Once the trailer is locked in this hitch is GREAT , But I have found it difficult to fully lock the handle together without rocking the truck back and forth. It is also difficult to unlock the handle when its time to unhook the from the trailer, further more once the handle has unlocked and has been pulled out, the handle tends to slide back into the hitch thus not releasing the trailer. I have to have someone hold the handle out as I pull my truck forward. 266270

Was very impressed with the shipping speed of my rails and hitch. Install was pretty straight forward, the written instructions are not the best but having the video made it go that much quicker. Brake controller, trailer wiring harness, rails and hitch took about 5 hours to install. Will for sure be using eTrailer again for my needs. My only problem was the pro series hitch, I had to open up the metal brace slightly to fit on the sliders. 120070

I placed my order on Sunday, Mar. 6 and within 2 hours had three different confirmation of order emails. Didn't expect any feedback until Monday at the earliest. Received my order in hand Wednesday, Mar 9. Turn around time was great. I haven't had a chance to install yet, but have opened all packaging and everything looks just like it was described. Thank you so much. I will not hesitate to order again from you in the future! 9061

This was my first time installing a 5 wheel hitch rails and was very straight forward on my Vehicle (2002 2500 HD) no problems at all. First time pulling a 5th wheel and loved it so far compared to my travel trailer looked at the kits that were specific to vehicle (no holes to drill) but decided I could handle drilling a few holes for my late model truck and at about 200 dollars cheaper I am very happy with the way it turned out. 403504

Have installed it today. Manual was very vague for ford. The photo on web site is different than product recieved, but with all that it was very easy to install and will find out on Thursday how good it works. I am in need of other products for the camping process and will b dealing with etrailer.com. Will B posting pictures at a further date. If there is a catalog for etrailer.com I would greatly appreciate one being sent to me. 48835

Great Product well built. fairly easy to install. The only problem I had is on a 93 Dodge W250 Cummins is on the Drivers side Frame rails where the back Bracket goes is a valve body for the back . so made a modification and put a few weld on the Bracket should work fine. The box the head unit came in was so bad you couldn't pick it up all the Styrofoam was all broken apart. Might want to rethink what u ship it in. 407697

I purchased this hitch mount to replace my old one, which had become damaged. The mount fit perfectly on the old mount drill holes and worked with my existing 5th wheel hitch. I watched the installation video first for any tips which gave me an idea of what I was up against. I received the item fast and free, which is what I expect from etrailer. Always a pleasure doing business with you. Thanks again 381012

I am looking at a 20K 30867. Will that fit the same bed rails as a 16K 30866 and are they interchangeable from one to the other?I cannot find any information of the distance between the bracket that goes into the rail.Thank you!Dennis J. Kraus South Dakota

Both the R16 and R20 fifth wheel hitches will fit the same rail set. For the most part, above-bed fifth wheel rails are the same. If you have a truck with a set of rails and currently have the R16 part # 30866, you can pull it out of the rails and drop the R20 30867 right in.

Follow instruction very easy to install. Works well with my hitch. Took more time reading instruction than installing on truck. Drilling whole in the bed of the truck wanted to make sure I understood what I was doing before drilling. Installed on a 93 Chevy Crew Cab Dually, long bed. Truck sat high enought that I did not have to raise it up or remove the tires whick cut down on the istallation time greatly. 82020

Best price, prompt response and delivery. Product exactly as described. Fits a great variety of vehicles. Hardware parts application and description could be a little more complete; but, it can all be figured out. I simplified L-bracket attachment to frame by welding them on. I have a 1990 Chevy Silverado 3500. The instructions were fine for most of the installation. At least one top bolt location had to be moved to match the frame. Two of the brackets required some cutting of plates on the frame to fit properly. One bracket bolt was a pain to get in because it was right behind the shock tower bracket. 17/32" drill bit was almost impossible to find. 133371

Product arrived a day ahead of scheduled, as most e-trailer orders do. All pieces present and in good condition. Ask the Experts about this Fifth Wheel
Do you have a question about this Fifth Wheel?

  • Suitability of Older Trucks for Towing Fifth Wheels
  • Due to the myriad of different equipment packages GM offered, finding the towing capacity of a given vehicle is not as easy as you would think. I did some research on the towing capacities of those mid 80's GM trucks. I found that as a general rule, the K series 4wd trucks has lower capacities than the C series 2wd models. I saw several references stating that a C series could tow up to 12,000 lbs or maybe more, depending how it was equipped. The best way to determine the towing capacity

The maximum trailer weight for a 1500 Crew Cab short bed with 5.3 liter motor and 3.73 rear end is 11,100 pounds for a 2-wheel drive model and 10,900 pounds for a 4-wheel drive model. There is also a footnote for these trucks in the configuration that you have that states "This model is neither designed nor intended to tow fifth-wheel of gooseneck trailers." It doesn't say that you can't just that the truck wasn't made for

  • Determining Proper Height of Fifth Wheel Hitch in Truck Bed
  • Here's how to figure out the hitch height you'll need. Jack the trailer up so that it's level. Measure the distance from the underside of the pin box to the ground. Then, measure the height of the floor of the truck bed above the ground. The difference between these two measurements is the height at which you'd want your hitch. You'll want at least six inches of clearance between the top of the bed sides and the underside of the trailer loft. For a 6-3/4 inch bed, you have a few options

In my opinion, I personally would not get the RamBox feature. The boxes will limit you hitch options and what components that are available will increase the over all expense of a 5th wheel hitch for a Ram with RamBoxes installed. Typically, a non-sliding fifth wheel hitch like the # RP30867 is recommended for use with a Revolution, but if you use a sliding hitch, make sure that the hitch remains in the forward towing position at all times. Sliding the hitch rearward will place too much of the fifth wheel pin weight behind the rear axle. This can lighten the front truck axle to the point where steering and braking

  • 5th Wheel Installation Kit for a 2006 F-250 Superduty Universal Versus Custom
  • The best kits to use for 5th Wheel installation are the custom kits. According to our installers the custom kit will save you a lot of time and energy because they are designed to fit with the factory construction of your 2006 Ford F-250. The universal kit will work on your vehicle, but it requires a more difficult installation including more drilling than the custom kit. The Custom install kits for 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duties are the Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Custom Installation Kit

  • Will an Older Reese Kwik Slide 5th Wheel Hitch Fit in Universal Reese 5th Wheel Rails in 2002 F-150
  • Yes, the 1998 model Reese Kwik Slide fifth-wheel hitch will work in standard fifth-wheel rails, and the Universal Installation Kit, # RP30035, will work for you. Your hitch is basically just an older version of the Reese Slider Hitch, # RP30051, with a slightly lower capacity rating and possibly wider legs that will install in the outer most slots in the fifth-wheel rails. For your 2002 Ford F-150 with 6-1/2 foot bed, I would recommend using the Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation

  • Installing a 5th Wheel Hitch in a 2004 Ford F-250 With a B and W Gooseneck Hitch
  • I have a few solutions for you, however, a gooseneck hitch and a fifth wheel hitch will not typically fit together on a truck. The frame brackets of the gooseneck hitch or fifth wheel hitch will interfere with the frame brackets from the other hitch. This would be the case on your truck if you tried to install the Reese Universal Fifth Wheel Install Kit, # RP30035, that you referenced. The frame brackets for your B and W gooseneck hitch will prevent the frame brackets from fifth wheel base
