Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel RP30047 Review

Today we are going to review part number RP30047. This is the Reese Fifth Wheel Dual Jaw Trailer Hitch with a 16,000 pound weight capacity. This fifth wheel trailer hitch uses the two jaw locking system, which will provide more jaw to king pin contact than the economical slide bar models, it will give you less rattle and greater security. I am going to open up the jaws to show you the dual jaws. If you move the safety latch over, that will allow you to pull open the handle. When you pull open on the handle, there is a little notch that will latch onto the plate and it will hold the jaws open right here.

So you can see the dual jaws let me release it and you will see the dual jaw right here and they basically close and wrap completely around the king pin and give you less rattle and greater security. Now it does have the 4-way pivoting head, which will ease hook up on un-leveled ground. Basically you can see it move side-to-side and it also moves front-to-back. This one being brand new is pretty stiff, but it gives you 4-way movement. Now on the side, let me rotate this and I will show you on the side that, there is a height adjustment when you install the cross-member to the fixed legs, you will notice that there is four sets of holes that you can put the bolts through and basically you can get the correct height you need above your truck bed.

If you put the bolts or if you install the cross-member in the top bolts, that would be the lowest hitch height, which would be 14 1/2inches. If you put the bolts in the lower holes, that would raise it up to the maximum of 18 inches, so there is a 3 1/2 inch height adjustment that you can do above your truck bed. The installation on this hitch is very simple and the removal is also. The fixed legs as you can see right here flare out, so they do have a wide stance and they are a one piece leg, which will offer excellent stability. The finish on this is a black powder coat finish on both the legs and the hitch.

It will resist corrosion. This locking handle that I have demonstrated, does have a nice cushion grip on it and again just to show you how that opens, let me turn the handle push it down, so you will be able to see the dual jaws. You just pull open and it will latch into place and back your king pin in, fifth wheel king pin, release it and it will be around the king pin and just push down on your safety latch. You will notice that once you push the safety latch right here around the handle and push it down, it keeps the handle from being operated, which will keep the jaws around the king pin. There is a hole on the latch and a whole on the head and if you put a pin or clip through there or even a padlock, which is sold separately, for additional security that will keep it locked into place.

Now I am demonstrating this hitch on base rails, but they are not included with this part, they are sold separately. The rails and the mounting kit will be sold separately. We do recommend if possible using a custom install mounting bracket, because that will cut the time in half compared to a universal install kit. This hitch will fit the Curt, The Valley, The Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch and the Reese Space Rails. Again the gross towing weight capacity on this is 16,000 pounds. The vertical load limit on this is 4,000 pounds. The hitch height we mentioned is 14 1/2 to 18 inches and it comes with a five year limited warranty. The pin and clips that attach it to the rails will be included with the hitch. I just want to show you the rear of the hitch basically to show you the large pivot bolt. This head is installed on a pivot beam and its held in by this large pivot bolt with a pin and clip, so if you remove that pin and clip, you can pull that pivot bolt out and then the whole head and pivot beam would come out of the cross-member. Very simple installation. That should do it for review on part number RP30047.

Thanks for the help with getting the adapter. This is how the job ended up with the under bed mount and adapter to the standard fifth wheel. 123262

We ordered this for our 2016 Ford F-350. The part comes unassembled, but with instructions that are easy to follow. I did have to adjust after assembly to fit our truck properly. ( The instructions state you may have to adjust ). If you get this I will recommend that you get the wrench, it would have made the adjustments easier. My hitch dropped right in the slots and pinned right in place. NOTE: the pins for the hitch are not included, so order them if you do not have them. The adapter does not rest on the bed, only on the FORD under bed adapter. 233786

Everything is working like it is supposed to. I do not see excessive rusting, the paint is holding well.

My new F350 didn't have the under bed 5th wheel mount and I didn't want to use the rails that bolt across the bed. I bought the Reese under bed parts, Reese adapter, new legs for the hitch and a bed mat and installed it myself. I drilled through the dimples in the bed, bolted in the under bed parts and everything lined up nice. Since I went from a short bed to a long bed I didn't need the slider legs so I replaced them with fixed legs. When the hitch and adapter are out of the bed, nothing is in the way on the floor. I like it. 243480

Just installed the Reese Rail Adapter in my 2015 Ford F-350. It fits the factory 5th wheel prep package perfectly. The only issue I had was with fine tuning the latches (trial and error) but even so, this was a breeze to install (15-20 minutes). As always the shipping is FAST! I had the kit at my door two days after ordering. 160026

Overall good experience, except the shipping. Not etrailer's fault, UPS separated the packages and the second one to arrive looked like it was drop kicked. The ramp on the plate was bent, and the black coating is cracked but I guess it will still be serviceable. Fit right in place of my prior hitch and I look forward to trying it out soon. Went from a slide bar to the dual jaw hoping to be rid of the chucking during stop and start up. 112340

Hitch worked as advertised and no more chucking during stop and start, smooth sailing with the new hitch!

I cannot express to you how happy I was with the ordering process+ the help I got getting the right product. I bought a 5th wheel adapter for my new Ford F350 superduty 8ft. box to fit an older hitch. The adapter plate arrived 2 days after the order was placed. The plate took me 25 min. to install. Thanks for the help! PS Great fit up. 147766

Just installed the Reese Underbed Rail Adapter in my 2013 Ford F-350 truck. It fit the factory 5th wheel prep option perfectly. Used it with a Husky EZ Roller Hitch, which I already had, real nice matchup. I ordered the adapter from Etrailer.com, the people there are very friendly and helpful. Got the part in 3 work days. Very happy with the part and the service. 79386

Installation was slightly problematic but nothing that couldn't be overcome with some patience. Instructions say a 1 1/2 inch socket, but I don't know where one would fit. Get yourself a crescent wrench that will adjust to that large size if you don't have a combination box/open end that size. Instructions were fairly straightforward. I had a little difficulty adjusting the anchor bushings to match the pucks in the truck bed, but finally got there. It also took a few tries to adjust the tee pins (half turn at a time, reinsert lynch pin) so that the locking handles tightened down properly without having to use too much or too little force. All in all I'm very happy because there was no drilling in my brand new F250. It does make the hitch sit a few inches higher in the bed of the truck, so your 5th wheel may have to be lowered and/or pin box raised. But I'm sure that will vary with each person's truck & trailer combo. 429793

Looks like this is going to be a perfect fit for what I need to pull my 2011 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8265WS, 5th wheel trailer with the Revolution pin box. Just had it installed & after many years of driving truck with a 5th wheel, I can tell this is a good sturdy 5th wheel & looks good too. 483311

Installed in 2015 F250 with factory prep pkg. Fit was perfect with only minor adjustment to handles needed. Matched up to my DrawTite 5th wheel and Kwik Slide perfectly. Shipping was fast and tracking details were excellent. Etrailer stays on top of the order all the way. 180934

Very easy to install, I didn't curse or throw a tool putting it together! It really looks good with my old hitch in my new 2012 F-350 Lariat. I haven't towed my RV as of yet, but I will let y'all know how that goes when we go camping next weekend. Attached are some pics. 59638

This Reese product is stout, easy to assemble, and matched up correctly with my Reese 16K Pro Series slider 5th wheel hitch. The adjustments mentioned in the other reviews and in the installation manual took a little bit longer for me, but they were simple and well explained, I just had to keep adjusting all the jam nuts on the pucks until they all fit in the holes easily. Took maybe 45 minutes total. When I ordered it, the phone was answered by a woman, I was concerned because I had some questions about the adapter, whether my hitch would fit, etc. " CS " answered all my questions, looked up some info for me. Great job, always good service at etrailer. 365880

Reese's Under Rail Adapter RP30156 is very easy to assemble and to install. Instructions provided are well written reducing the assemble time to les than five minutes. Installation took longer due to the snug fit between the trucks underbed rails and the adapter's pins. Etrailer's delivery time is outstanding as well as their customer support team. They were very helpful in identifying the correct adapter match. 331034

Product was received within a few days. Assembly was easy. A few minor adjustments to get the unit to lock in the pucks properly and you're ready to set the hitch. The only issue you have to be aware of is your hitch height so your trailer is as close to being level as possible. This raises your hitch a couple of inches whcih made my trailer not level. I could not lower the 5th wheel hitch any lower. This is the only reason I gave this a 4 star rating and not a five. I am looking into a new hitch which I am sure will be purchased through etrailer. The support you receive from etrailer is 5 star. 498691

The product was delivered on time, 3 days as promised. Nothing was missing from the box. Easy to put together took me about 10min, adjusting it to fit my truck was easy. It is worth the money, I would recommend this product. This is defiantly the way to go if you don't want to spend big bucks on a completely new 5th wheel system.i used my older 5th wheel slider from reese lined right up, this product saved me about $800. The guy i talked to was very helpful, knowledgeable and great customer service. Keep up the great work etrailer. will defiantly be shopping from here again. 484342

I have been a customer of etrailer for years. I guess that you get to know a company when things go wrong. I ordered this 5th wheel hitch adapter and needed a quick delivery. Well, I received the adapter on time but it was missing parts. I don't think that it was etrailers fault but the manufacturers. What I have a problem with is when I informed etrailer of the error I was told that it would take 1-2 weeks to get me what I was missing. I needed this early - it's why I paid for an early delivery. I might be forced to return this and go get what I need from someone else. 428661

I just purchased a Ford Super Duty with the factory integrated 5th wheel mount package. As a result, I needed to either upgrade my 5th wheel hitch, or purchase the Reese adapter (RP30156). I chose to buy the adapter as my hitch was still in fine shape. The adapter went together in less than 30 minutes and fit perfectly into my Ford. The only thing one should consider in going this route is that you raise the plate height of your hitch by 3 or 4 inches when using the adapter. etrailer's service was superb as always and shipping was VERY fast. 429204

Product just arrived and I haven't had time to install but I do have an issue with the way it was packaged. I read many reviews before ordering and some people had torn boxes and or missing parts. The box that the hitch head and parts bag was in arrived inrough shape. The parts bag was ripped open and loose fasteners were in the box and sticking out holes in the box. Luckily it seems that everything made it. I will confirm that when installing tonight. Reese needs to address this. Maybe a separate package for hardware? 505205

After getting the rear rail installed, I used the hitch to set the front rail. I worked perfectly. I can remove the hitch without any binding. This was a problem with my old hitch on my old truck that was installed by the service department where I bought my original 5th wheel trailer. This is basically the same hitch as I had before on my old truck and I had no problems with it after towing approximately 37,000 miles over 15 years so I expect that this hitch will give me the same service. 239363

Great Price, Fast free Shipping, Phone ordered and etrailer was excellent with fitment applications. Ordered this for my 2017 F-350 which has the Ford 5th wheel prep package. It assembles easy with clear instructions and tips for mounting. Sturdy, strong and durable. Easy to remove when not towing. Great product from the great people at etrailer. Saved me the money to replace my entire 5th wheel hitch. I kept my Reese 16K hitch which mounts to this adapter. Thanks etrailer!!! 425819

The frame holes for the hitch tabs were too tight on one side and the opening in the frame needed to be filed in order to accommodate the hitch. Also, I would recommend leaving the Jam Nuts loose until the frame is placed in the bed as it allows for some bed variability and you will never get it right by tightening down everything and then trying to fit it. All in all it provides a very clean hitch adapter for my 2015 ford F250 with the factory Fifth Wheel Prep package. 167383

It was hard to tell from the pictures but this item uses the handles to rotate the locking clevis and is as easily removable as the OEM equipment! The fit was fantastic and assembly only took about 15 minutes. Big savings being able to continue using my Pro series 15k. 35599

Awesome product, etrailer was spot on with fast free shipping and a great website fitted to my 2014 Chevrolet 3500 Only recommendation is that unless you have the extra time and patience The RP50066-58 (56006) rail kit (with inward facing frame brackets) is not worth the savings. Too tough to get to the bed to frame bolts. Buy the RP56001-53 (56001) rail kit which has the outward facing frame brackets and is far more of a "friendly" rail kit to install. 485332

Fit perfectly. Katherine made it super easy to order and was a big help ensuring it shipped in time for our big plans for the weekend! The directions don’t do the best job explaining that the “T-bolts” can be loosened from the nut to customize their length; making a perfect fit into the pucks. I first tightened them as far as they go and worried it wouldn’t fit. They can be loosened as long as the retaining rod will still fit through the “T-bolt” 501932

The hitch has worked as expected. I would expect nothing but from Reese. During our last trip the hitch started to creek so I removed the top and applied a little grease. This unit is working in conjunction with a Revolution king pin box on our 5th wheel. We are very pleased with this unit for our application. Etrailer has been our go to place for many trailering items. I would recommend them overall for customer and product performance 330037

Wow, thanks for the product follow up. We have used the Reese hitch a lot this past year traveling out west into South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado etc. Hitch has worked perfectly. For a while I did take advantage of the RVs revolution hitch but found that it was to stressful on the hitch and more difficult to connect to the hitch so I have gone back to a standard 5th wheel configuration. etrailer is my go to supplier for RV stuff unless I have an emergency and need to act on a failure immediately.Anyway thanks for the follow up. I installed the adapter RP30156 into my 2012 F 350, which had the factory 5th wheel prep package. I installed my Husky 16K EZ Roller hitch onto the adapter. I did drop the hitch head down by approximately 2 inches. Overall project went well and I didn't have to buy a new hitch! 40537

The slots for the tabs that you pin down are 22 inches apart front to back. From left to right, the inner set measure 20-1/2 inches and the outer set measures 29 inches. Check the measurements against the tabs on your Husky Roller and make sure they match up.

Great product, great price. Easy to assemble, and fit right into my factory Ford puck system as it should. Simplified my delima of what to do with my hitch after trading in my old truck, and refitting to my new truck. 464195

I got this one to replace my Economy slide bar model. The slide bar has issues with uncoupling if there is any pull pressure on the the trailer after you level it up. That happened at two places we go regularly so I moved on to this model. It tows great, no bumping and banging around since it has constant 360 degree contact with the trailer hitch. We love it and it will unhitch on a hill if you ever want to. 278167

Great design, easy to install seems solid with the hitch and trailer hooked up to it. My only gripe is the fact that it raises the hitch up 2.5 inches. With an older lower trailer it kinda forces it to sit offset, I lowered the hitch as low as I could, bit it's still too tall. If you have a setup like that you will be better off getting the oem legs for your hitch that will fit your prep package. 502424

Fast shipping, received it in one day, easy to assembly, adjustment to fit took a few tries, don't know if the 5th wheel puck wasn't level or the rail adapter wasnt welded flat, had to loosen pin screws to the max to get it to lock, took several tries to get it adjusted. Hope when I hook up the trailer it will help level things out. Seems to be a good for my needs, installing on a 2017 F250 527489

etrailer has a great site, easy to find products, shipping is fast. The 5th wheel rail adapter is a quality product. I purchased a new Ford F-350 with the Ford built in 5th wheel and gooseneck options. I didn’t want to spend another $1,800 to purchase the Ford products for it. etrailer solved the problem. Cathy T. helped me with this order to get it installed on my Ford truck. The product comes with very simple instructions and mounts in my truck perfectly. I'd make sure to have a wrench that will fit the 1 1/2 nut that fastens the mounts to the frame of the adapter. Nice product and great customer service as usual. Received product by UPS. Two of the three packages were intact however the package that the fifth wheel top plate and frame came in were ripped open. Fortunately all contents were there. Suggest these pieces be shipped in a sturdier box, maybe double thick. Other than that, Reese hitch looks very strong. Will be installing it today. More to come. 435544

I bought this for my husband's 2015 Ford 250 pickup. The product came right away. The installation was easy. He likes the fact that when you take the hitch out that there are no rails on the bed. It is heavy duty, well made, and nicely painted. We have not had an opportunity to use the hitch yet, but so far everything has been great. 186255

The Adapter fit the truck F 350 fine but the hitch didin't fit into the adapter. My Reese hitch was a older slider (1998) and would not allow pins to be installed due to binding. I had to upgade a portion of my slider hitch (side railles) to allow this setup to work. Assembly of the adapter was easy and it was delivered on time. 203714

Was a little disappointed in the overall quality of the hitch, had to rework the latch to close easily, the decals had bubbles in them and would of liked all of the hitch to have been made in the USA. The base width was several inches narrower then my original Draw Tite hitch. Used it last weekend and it seemed to function well. 552719

  • Comparing Reese, Pro Series, and CURT 16K Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitches
  • Reese is a leader in the towing industry and we sell more Reese hitches than any other brand. It is height adjustable from 14-1/2 to 18 inches. The jaw on the Reese hitch is a double jaw style. This is a safe and secure style. Only the single hook is considered to be better. It has a double pivot head. The next step down is the Pro Series hitch, # PS30855. This is a very economical hitch aimed at the first-time 5th wheel trailer owner. It is height adjustable from 13 inches to 17 inches
