Video Transcript for Rhino Rack Roof Rack Review - 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Speaker 1: Today on our 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, we're going to be installing the Rhino Roof Rack System with Aero Bars using part numbers RRVA126B-2, which is the Vortex Aero Crossbars in black. This also comes in silver with part number RRVA126S-2, part number RRRLKVA, which is the foot packs to get them attached to your roof, and part number DK183, which is the Fit Kit for the vehicle. This roof rack system is going to be great for freeing up space inside your vehicle by getting that cargo up on the roof. It's also ideal for very large items, such as kayaks, bike racks, or skis. It's going to be made of a durable lightweight aluminum that's going to be rust-proof and corrosion-resistant. Up on top, we'll have a rubber strip. This will help keep your cargo from sliding around once you've got it secure. The strip also comes up and we'll be able to mount T-slot accessories below.

You can access that T-slot by unlocking the end cap, pulling it off, slipping your strip up, loading up your accessories, cutting it to length, and then putting it back down. You'll want to keep the strip in place wherever you don't have an accessory as it'll help keep out dirt and grime and also cut down on some wind noise. When you're done, just simply slide your tab back on and lock it back up. This will also help protect your accessories from theft. These can be upgraded with metal locks here at etrailer.com.The foot pads will have locking mechanisms included that come with two keys.

This will help protect your roof rack system, making it secure to your roof, and also if you have any accessories that are locked onto your Aero Bars, you'll have those protected that's locked onto your vehicle. We'll give you a few measurements here to see how your accessories may interact with your roof rack system on your Malibu. From the top of the roof to the bottom of the crossbar, it's going to measure about 3-1/2". Now, from the top of the roof to the top of the crossbar, it's going to measure about 4-3/4".We've already got the front Aero Bar installed on our vehicle. Now, we'll show you how to install the rear. To begin the installation, you'll need to prepare your foot pack.

Go ahead and take your foot pack and install the pad on it. We're going to use pad number 415 for our driver side. Pad 414 will go on your passenger side. We'll go ahead and put that pad on. It just presses into place.

Next, you'll slide it onto the Aero Bar using the T-nut here. We'll need to set up for the correct distance. This is going to be 152mm. Now with your kit, you'll have a strip that you can cut to length that has millimeters written on it already. For testing purposes, we're just going to be using a tape measure. You'll also want to pay attention when you're making these measurements as they are different from the front and rear bar. Refer to your instructions, and the pads that we have installed on our foot pads also change depending if it's the front and rear bar. So, again, refer to your instructions. We've got it set to the appropriate distance, so we'll now tighten it down.Loosen the bolt on the side of the foot pad. Slide on our fit kit arm. For the rear bar, we're going to be using SUB0257. These are different from the front. Slide it in place and then reinstall your bolt. You don't need to tighten it all the way down now. Just get it in there so it holds the pad arm on. Then, we'll put our end cap on with the lock pointing towards the foot pad. Turn it with the key, and we're now ready to install it on the vehicle. You'll need both doors open so we you can set it in place. Then, we'll have to measure the distance between our front and rear bar. Our front bar is going to measure 22 cm from the back of the door to the center of the foot pad. The distance between the center of the front foot pad and the center of the rear food pad is going to measure 70 cm. So, we'll line that up now and do it on both sides.Once you've got them both lined up, we can tighten it down using the included tool. You'll want to get one side snug, and then go tighten the other side so that way they're tightened down evenly on both sides. Once they're tightened down, we can put our lock and covers on, on both sides, and now we're ready to load up our favorites accessories and hit the road. That completes our installation of the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack System on our 2010 Chevrolet Malibu.

Two items I received surprised me when I unpacked the box were the rails because they were not black like I saw in the picture, and the rubber insert that I am having a hard time sliding in the rail. Should this rubber insert have come already installed in the rail or is there a top on how to put in with ease? 460445

Thank you for your review. The bars that you purchased for this kit are Item # RB1250

in silver. The rubber you are referring to is meant to be removed if necessary. You can remove the rubber and use other heavy duty c-channel accessories on your bars. The rubber should be put in the c-channel when not using other accessories, to cut down on wind noise and provide a slip resistant surface for your load. If you firmly press the rubber stripping into the c-channel it should easily go in. I attached a video for you of one of our installers reviewing these bars and she talks about the rubber c-channel about 15 seconds into the video.

My husband & I have ordered from etrailer in the past and have always had success with orders. This order, however, was disappointing. When the order was initially placed, it was not advertised that the racks were on backorder. This delayed the delivery for approx 1 week because we had to contact the company and ask why there was a delay. When the racks were eventually delivered, there was a mis-match with the racks. One black (as we expected) and one silver. We guess that the silver one was sent in place of a backordered rack? My husband contacted etrailer CS and they said a black rack would be sent and a sticker to return the silver rack would be e-mailed. We are still awaiting for the error to be corrected. Disappointed because we have had to modify many of our summer plans due to not having the racks. Hoping the problem will be rectified swiftly. 396535

Great product and great customer service.very easy to put together and install, although the measurements are a little crazy. 33/64. It’s impossible to be this precise. Love the product though 516134

After a year, the rack is great. Had it loaded with ladders and lumber. Works great. It is extremely noisy though. The whistling at certain speeds is very bad. I’ve tried things to stop it but it’s hard to tell what is actually making the noise. You might get used to it. I didn’t. This would not however, stop me purchasing this rack. For the money and Construction you can’t beat it. Well actually you could beat it if you got rid of the whistling.

etrailer.com's videos and additional customer support made the purchase of a Rhino Rack system from them for our 2010 Malibu a no brainer. The rack fit the car perfectly, and with the videos and clear instructions that came with the kit, I got it installed on the car with only one misstep. The instructions came the the measurements in centimeters and inches. I didn't have a metric tape measure, and ended up messing up converting fractions to decimal. My Daughter is going to college 500 miles away and is moving into an unfurnished apartment and needed to pick up some small furniture that wouldn't fit in her Malibu. She purchased several items from Facebook Marketplace and was able to transport a twin bed and mattress, a medium sized desk and some dining room chairs (in several trips) with no problems. The only thing I can think of to improve the installation would be to have the Inches measurements in decimal or to include an inexpensive metric tape. 691227

I received excellent prompt service for a minor parts-related problem not impacting installation, safety or use of the Rhino Rack system I purchased. I would order from etrailer again without hesitation. 688546

This is an excellent product. It was the only product that would fit my truck. I was able to mount it by myself, it took me longer than I thought it would, but it helps if you watch first a video on line about how to put it together. The support staff is excellent if you miss any parts. I highly recommend it for the 2015 Nissan Rogue. Andrei 569596

2017 Ford F-150

This rack worked out great... I installed in on a 2017 Ford F-150. We drove 6 hrs through wind and rain with a SUP and Tandem Kayak on top. It really took a beating in a storm the whole way. One bracket was a little loose and shifted because of the wind on the Kayak, but it held together. Super happy with Rhino rack! 515812

Nissan Versa

This rack works perfectly on my Nissan Versa for carrying my two Perception Sound 9'6" kayaks. The Rhino-Racks look good to me. The kayaks can rest directly on the rubber pads on the rails, unlike the Yakama racks I had in the past that had bare pipe rails. Also, I expect I can buy parts to adapt this product to a different car without having to buy new towers. I am sorry there are not hooks or loops to attach bungees when carrying lumber. They are noisy in the wind, but less so when carrying the kayaks. 338883

I just received my Rhino roof rack and am very pleased with the super fast shipping. The rack seems very strong and it’s very easy to install. I will have to order the 3rd rail also as I had planned on adding a rooftop tent and the tent wouldn’t have enough support on the back. ETrailer is a great place to purchase from since they have everything to fit your needs and service has been great so far. Will be ordering the 3rd rail now. Thank you! 567787

Comments
Rhino rack is holding up great! I discovered that the leaking onto the seatbelt after installing the rack was due to not using the rubber washer that was attached to the old roof plugs. I reinstalled the racks using those washers and no more leak. If anyone is having a leaking problem, that’s how to fix it.

Review from a similar Rhino Rack DK in Roof Rack

I bought this roof rack kit for my 2015 Nissan Rogue awd 5-dr. The shipping time was excellent and everything arrived together and undamaged. The instructions are simple and easy to follow and I had it put together and ready to mount in about 30 min. Aligning it on the roof is definitely easier with two people, but can be done alone. The forward rack's rubber feet fit seamlessly on the roof of my car and tightened snugly with no worries of it flying off. Be sure to follow the directions for the included torque wrench and everything will form perfectly. The rear rack's rubber feet form is a little off and they don't sit flush with the car's body, but after torquing to the required tightness the rear rack fit securely with only a tiny gap between the body and feet. On the road, I made it up to 75 mph before any whistling was noticed, but some music at mid volume drowned it out. Be sure to cut the rubber and fit everything as precise as possible. This will prevent drag and whistling. The quality of the metal and plastic isn't as high as other brands, but when those other brands don't fit your car you have to compromise and this would be my top pick. 253160

Review from a similar Rhino Rack DK in Roof Rack

Delivery was fast - racks seem solid. Happy with product. Like the one tool (plus a knife and tape measure) installation. Could use a little more emphasis on the interplay of the two instruction sheets - the general one and the specific measurements for the car model. Maybe big bold capital letters would help in the instructions (when you need to go to the other sheet). The arrows on the black pads are kind of hard to see, so it took a few times to get the configuration correct (pad type, pad direction, foot direction). But that was the only snag, all else is good. The online installation video was helpful. The total cost was almost half what the local outdoor store wanted to charge for Yakima racks (that were only rated 100 lbs.) Since I am carrying a canoe a lot, I went for the 165 lbs rated Rhino rack. I also widened the separation of the racks on the roof about two inches as well. This was for the canoe - and also to get it level, it was a bit down in the nose with the measurements in the instructions.. By moving the rear rack more astern, the spread was wider and level. 234297
