Detail K2 Avalanche Plow Length

The Detail K2 Avalanche snowplow conveniently slides into your vehicle's front-mounted trailer hitch for fast, simple mounting. Easily raise and lower the plow from the comfort of your cab with the remote-controlled electric winch. The pivoting blade makes this plow ideal for rocky or uneven surfaces because it can adjust to the terrain.

Simple, Hitch-Mounted Installation

This hitch-mounted snowplow simply slides into your vehicle's front trailer hitch receiver, making it a breeze to install. A plow that attaches to custom-fit brackets ties you down to just 1 vehicle. But this hitch-mounted plow can be used on most trucks or SUVs with a 2" x 2" front-mounted hitch. As a result, this plow can be easily switched between multiple vehicles. And because it offers a nearly universal fit, you won't have to buy a new plow when you replace your old vehicle.

Detail K2 Avalanche Hitch Mount

To install the Avalanche snowplow, just slide the shank of the plow assembly into your 2" trailer hitch receiver (sold separately). Then use a pin and clip or a hitch lock (sold separately) to secure the plow in the receiver.

Detail K2 Avalanche Caster Wheel

The Avalanche snowplow comes with flip-down caster wheels that make the installation process even easier on you. Simply flip the wheels into position and you will be able to roll the plow into position for mounting or storage. The height of the wheels can also be adjusted to match the height of your vehicle.

How to Plow

Detail K2 Avalanche Adjustable Plow Position

Once the plow is mounted on your vehicle, lower the blade and set it to the desired angle. To set the angle, exit the vehicle and manually position the plow straight ahead, to the left, or to the right. Angling the blade allows you to push snow off to the side where you want it without having to change the angle of your entire vehicle. This is especially useful on a driveway or a private roadway where piling the snow straight ahead would create a barrier.

Detail K2 Avalanche Wireless Remote 2.4Ghz

The Avalanche comes with a wireless remote that allows you to stay warm and out of the elements while still effectively controlling the plow. The remote operates on a 2.4 GHz frequency, allowing it to quickly send signals to the winch without experiencing delays. And because it's wireless, you won't have to run wires through your dash. Nor will you have to leave your window cracked open in the middle of a snow storm just so that you can run a wired remote into your cab. You will be glad to have it on those cold winter days.

To begin plowing, just drive forward. When backing up to take another pass, be sure to lift the plow with the remote, then lower it again before moving forward. When approaching a large pile of snow, be sure to decrease your speed. Slamming into a pile of snow can void the warranty on the Avalanche snowplow.

When you are finished, put your vehicle in park and lower the plow. Remove the plow from your vehicle after every use.

Easy Lifting with Electric Winch

Detail K2 Avalanche Electric Winch

The electric winch on this plow allows you to easily lift and lower the blade using the wireless remote control. If you prefer, you can also install the included in-cab toggle switch to control the plow. The winch uses a durable strap, which is much quieter than a chain, to raise and lower the plow.

Detail K2 Avalanche Features

Detail K2 Avalanche Skid Shoes

The Avalanche snowplow features skid shoes that allow you to adjust the height of your plow. This allows you to efficiently plow over surfaces that are uneven, such as gravel roads.

Detail K2 Avalanche Blade Stiffener

Blade stiffeners, or blade support brackets, reinforce the connection between the plow and your vehicle. They add 2 additional points of contact with your hitch on either side of the plow's T-frame. This prevents stress on the frame and on your vehicle, while also strengthening the performance of the plow.

Detail K2 Avalanche Trip Springs

Shock-absorbing springs allow the plow to dip forward in the event that you hit an obstruction. This flexibility protects you and your vehicle from impacts.

Video Transcript for Front Mount Trailer Hitch Installation - 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, we're going to be taking a look at, and also showing you how to install, the CURT front mounted trailer hitch receiver. This is a custom fit that offers a 2" x 2" opening. The part number is C31023. This is what our hitch is going to look like installed. As you can see, pretty clean appearance. As you can see, most of it remains hidden behind our front fascia, here. In the middle, we've got our 2-inch by 2-inch receiver tube opening.

Now, front mount hitches are great for a lot of different accessories. You'll see some people that have a winch mount that they'll slide in, be able to use that. Works out really well for snow plows. You can attach them there rather than having to modify the whole front of the vehicle. There's a lot of different accessories that'll work out really well for it. As far as weight ratings go, it's going to have a vertical load limit of 500 pounds.

That's going to be the maximum downward force that you can put, here, at the receiver tube opening. If you plan on moving trailers around with it which in some of the reviews that's what people say they use this front mounted hitch, so they can get their boat into a real tight spot or something like that, it offers a 5,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. That's the total weight of your trailer and anything that you might load up on it. As far as a winching application would be concerned, when you put a winch in here and try to pull something, it has a 9,000 pound straight line pull rating. It's a really nice sturdy hitch. Very easy to install.

It's going to use factory connection points from both your tow hooks and your bumper. Pull them out, raise the hitch into position, slide them in, reattach the hardware, and it's really all there is to it. It has the nice flush reinforcement collar on the end, here. See, it's going to be just tucked in from the outside edge of our bumper a little bit, here, so we're not going to have to worry about running into it or anything. Then, we've got our 5/8 diameter pinhole, here, on the side. That's what we'll want to use to secure all of our items with.

You'll see for hitch pins, and clips, plenty of room there. If you have a winch mounted, here, and you want to lock it into place, locking hitch pin should work fine. Even anti-rattle devices should be able to go on there without any interference issues at all. Now, a few measurements that'll be helpful when you start selecting your front mount hitch accessories will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, we've got about 12". Then from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of our front bumper, it's about 4 3/4. To begin our installation there's going to be a small area that we need to remove, here, on this underside lip, if you're truck's equipped with it. It's just going to allow the receiver to come through without interfering. We want to leave this on, if you have it, and just get it trimmed out. What we need to do is find the center line of the vehicle, or the center line of that fascia strip. From our center line, here, what we're going to do is go out 1-inch and 3/8 from each side. I'm using a dry erase marker. That can sometimes help in cleanup a little bit later. Get an inch and 3/8 here, and then we'll go out to 2 3/4 there. Now, from the intersection where it meets, here, we need to come down 7/8 of an inch. Give ourselves a couple marks there. Now, we can use a straight edge and just square that all up. This is kind of a medium stiffness of plastic, so I think a razor knife would be fine to cut it. Just want to try and score it a few times. Once we have that large area out, we can go through and just trim it up, make it look nice. With a little rubbing alcohol, we can clean that dry erase marker off there. Now we're going to remove the two hooks from the truck. You can see we've got a bolt right here that we're going to remove, and then there's also a nut right there. We'll do this on both sides of the vehicle. We'll need an 18mm socket for that. With these side bolts, they are a pass-through style bolt, so you might need a wrench to hold one side while you loosen the other. Now, we'll pull our bolt out, there, and our tow hook should slide right out of the opening, just like that. Just above the tow hook bolt, there, you're going to have two more nuts on the inside of the frame rail, here, on the driver side. We're going to get these removed. These support the bumper, so we don't want to pull those bolts all the way out. We're just going to push them back in to where they become flush. You can see that little bit of wiggle that we've got there in the bumper, we're just going to push those back so that they're flush. On the passenger side, they go through from this direction towards the outside. We'll pull that completely out, rotate it, and put it back in, so it looks just like this. As we support our bumper, we want to pull our bolts out, rotate them out to the other side, and then slide them in again so they're flush, so that'll support our bumper. We won't have to worry about it moving. With an extras set of hands to help us out, we're going to raise our hitch into position. The plates that come up the side are going to go in between the frame rails, and then the two holes in the top, that's where that double bolt is going to pass right through it, and we'll be able to put our nuts on the outside edge, here. Just take a quick look at our opening, here. That looks really nice. Our bolts have come through, so let's just put the nuts on there to hold them in place. Just going to install these loosely for now. With those loosely installed, we'll grab our tow hooks. Those are going to go right back in where we got them out of. We want to be sure that all of them are going through into the middle of the truck. We replace the one we took out of the bottom, there. Put our nut back in there, and do the same thing over there on the passenger side. We want to snug down our nuts there. If we look in our instructions, we're going to find the appropriate torque specification. We're going to go through and torque down all of our bolts appropriately. With all of our hardware torqued down to the appropriate specifications, that's going to complete our install of the CURT front mount trailer hitch receiver, part #C31023, on our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 3500.

As always, delivery was quick. Hitch was easy to install and works nice. We do a lot of camping and since very few of the travel trailer manufacturers recommend a trailer hitch (some will tell you it voids your warranty), we can carry our bikes up front with this hitch. 367171

Great front receiver hitch for my Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Everything fit using OE bolts and nuts. Only the plastic trim had to be cut out to fit receiver. I had dealer do it, but would have done it myself when I was younger. etrailer is easy to order from and has good customer service. 399848

Great product, easy to install. Had to cut the air-dam but no other alterations needed. It is a little low but no more so than the front of the truck air dam. 375299

Installed this hitch this morning 10/06/19. Was going to wait for help as arthritis in hands makes turn wrenches a chore but was bored so went ahead anyhow. This is my second front hitch install , first one on 2018 F-150. Today’s install on 2014 duramax 2500. Today’s install was super simple , used floor jack to hold hitch up in position, you need to remove four bolts on each side , I did try air tools on the 21mm bolts but not powerful enough so used small piece of copper pipe over wrench handle for leverage to loosen, air tools were able to loosen the six 18mm bolts , took me about an hour and a half by myself. The fit of the hitch was absolutely perfect! Had to cut a small piece of the air dam at bottom of bumper, used a hacksaw, very easy. The quality and coating on the hitch is top notch. 714235

Got the hitch a day earlier than estimated. Ran the truck up my ramps, cut the plastic trim piece, used a floor jack to lift the hitch into place. Installed bolts and torqued to spec. Took about an hour and a half but I have a bad shoulder so didn’t feel to bad about install time! 672032

very sturdy product; installation was straight forward exactly as instructions indicated. I had planned to haul motorcycle on this front mount hitch with a carrier meant for a rear receive hitch. While i have not done so yet (lighting issues i need to resolve), this receiver will do the job. I also plan on picking up a receiver mount for a winch which could come in handy. Shipping was fast from etrailer. Overall great product and great service! I got just what I expected from the description. 545400

C31023 fit perfectly with just minor modifications, cutting a little piece out of the valance, instructions thorough. I have a bull bar mounted on the front and this hitch still fit perfectly, just unbolted bar, dropping down about an inch and putting the rack against the frame then the bar bolted back fine because the side holes were already slotted, great price also, 2012 GMC crew cab, 8” lift with 37’s, gives me a little more storage for my camping trips, golf cart takes up the bed space and the camper rack takes the bicycles. Will submit pictures when I have a chance 523643

I installed the hitch on my 2011 HD2500 Silverado and it functions as expected. The installation itself was simple. I had to cut out a small area of the valance/air dam so the hitch would clear. I had no trouble torquing the hardware to specs. The installation looks good and like it is intended to be there. I have used Curt hitches previously and this product is to place my boat in a closed in area in my backyard. 496654

Exact fit. Took less than 30 minutes to install in my shop and used all of the factory attaching hardware. If your truck is equipped with the second lower plastic deflector, approximately 3" long, you'll need to trim a 2 3/4" square out dead center for the tube to clear. I've installed several RV accessories over the years and I want to thank you for taking the time to get the fit correct. Time is money and your product is spot on. I would recommend this to anyone looking to install a hitch to the front of their truck for a bike rack or to make moving a trailer around in a crowded yard a breeze. 226550

Awesome product. Extremely easy install, except GM installed 2 of the bolts backwards (on the passenger side) so getting to them was a bit tough, but I reversed them when putting back on and it took maybe 30 minutes total. 2013 Chevrolet Silverado

This hitch fits like a glove. Slight trimming of lower plastic fascia required...no big deal. I fits between the frame rails inside the bumper mount area. Reverse the bolts as per the instructions, torque them and you're done. Nice Product. 88375

2013 GMC Sierra

Overall, my experience with etrailer was good. There was an initial delay in shipping, but once I talked to someone, everything went well. The help page was invaluable. The biggest help was the installation video. While there are slight differences between the 2011 GMC and the 2013, the process was the same. I am very pleased with the product and the support. After a year, I am still extremely pleased with the hitch. It is solid and provides the solution I needed.

2011 GMC Sierra

Received the hitch yesterday, & installed it immediately. A little more complicated than expected as GM installed 3 bolts backwards, but I was able to work around that. 83314

Exactly as I had hoped.

Ask the Experts about this Snow Plow
Do you have a question about this Snow Plow?

  • Snow Plow and Mount Recommendation for 1994 Jeep Wrangler 4WD
  • I'd recommend going with a plow mount for your vehicle over a hitch style mount. On some hitch mount setups we've seen the hitch not be as durable as the mounts that mount to the frame and are specifically for plows so that's what I feel is the better solution. The Detail K2 Storm Plow part # K2AVAL8422 that you referenced is a great choice, and then for mounts custom fit to your 1994 Jeep Wrangler we have the part # K284115 which would work great.

  • What is the Receiver Height Requirement for a Detail K2 Snow Plow
  • I spoke with my contact at Detail K2 who said that the height of the front hitch receiver on your 2005 Jeep Wrangler needs to be within the range of 13" - 18" which is measured to the bottom of the receiver opening. This is the case for all of their plows, including the Avalanche # K2AVAL8422 that you referenced.

  • Recommended Snowplow and Front-Mounted Hitch for 1994 Ford Ranger
  • For your 1994 Ford Ranger I recommend the Detail K2 Avalanche Snowplow # K2AVAL8422 which fits in the Curt Front-Mounted Hitch # C31063 (please keep in mind this hitch will not fit Ranger's with a front cross-member or 2WD models built in Canada). The K2 Avalanche # K2AVAL8422 has a blade which can adjust to be angled to the left or right as well as straight ahead and gets raised or lowered with an electric winch that is operated via remote control so you do not have to leave the cab

  • Best Way To Move a Heavy Trailer In and Out of Parking Spaces
  • I do have an option that will help you move your trailer in and out of parking spaces but both of the front mount trailer hitch receivers we have for your 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 65078 and the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C31023 have a maximum vertical load of 500 lbs. The tongue weight of your trailer will exceed the maximum vertical load rating of either trailer hitch therefore, I cannot recommend using

  • Correcting Gap Between Hitch Mounting Bracket and Truck Frame for Curt # C31023 Hitch
  • Sometimes during shipping hitches will bend slightly. It could have been that the mounting brackets of the Curt hitch part # C31023 got slightly bent and that is why you had a small gap between the bracket and the frame of the truck. Typically we recommend people use an open stairwell or a large vice to apply leverage to the brackets so that they can be bent back. As long as the metal doesn't crease or paint doesn't flake off during either the initial bend or the bending back the integrity

If you check out the test course videos I attached you'll see how they both compare.

  • Recommendation for Transporting 420 Pound Sportbike While Towing 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Going with a front mounted hitch and a heavy duty carrier for your sportbike is really the only option for transporting your bike while towing a 5th wheel trailer. The motorcycle carriers we currently have available are not rated for use behind a trailer, so this will be the best solution. For your 2013 Chevy Silverado, I recommend the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # C31023. This hitch will provide you with a 2 inch receiver opening and has a 500 pound vertical load capacity.

I attached a picture of the Curt Hitch part # C31023 installed and you can see it sits a bit closer to the ground.
