LED Display

The LED display on the TriFlex is large and easy to read at a glance. It will show you what setting the brake controller is on as well as give you information for troubleshooting. You can adjust the screen brightness or trigger night mode so it won't glare obnoxiously on your dash.

To change any of the settings, press the silver mode button on the front of the brake controller and which mode you are currently on will show on the LED display. When you're on the setting you want to adjust, use the black rocker switch next to the mode button to adjust it up or down.

Gain Adjustment

Gain control lets you set the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes, adjusting in increments of 0.5. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to go as high as you can without the trailer brakes locking up. Typically, the gain is only readjusted when you experience changing road conditions or if the weight of your trailer changes. To get more power to your brakes, press the upper rocker switch. To decrease the gain, press the lower switch. When you make your adjustment, the gain setting will show on the LED screen for 10 seconds and then go into sleep mode.

Load Control

Once you have the gain set, you can fine-tune your braking by adjusting the load control on a scale of 1 to 9. This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the maximum braking level. Load control can get the braking power to your trailer faster and with more intensity so that it doesn't push your tow vehicle forward. If your vehicle takes too long to come to a stop, increase the setting by pressing the upper rocker switch. If it stops too abruptly, decrease the setting by pressing the lower switch. You can alter the setting to suit your driving preferences or to improve handling based on changing road conditions or varied trailer loads.

Pinch-Trigger Manual Override

The TriFlex comes with a easy-to-reach, pinch-trigger manual override, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. To engage the manual override, just push in the trigger. This will activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

Safety Features

The TriFlex offers key safety features to prevent damage to various components of your towing setup. This starts with built-in protection against shorts and positive and negative power reversal, as well as continous diagnostic checks to alert you to any potential problems as they come up. To minimize the drain on your vehicle's battery, the TriFlex will automatically go into sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. Sleep mode will turn off again the moment you press the brake pedal.

Curt TriFlex NEXT

Quick Installation

Automatic leveling means you can mount the unit at any angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and the manual override. The included bracket is designed to mount the brake controller flush to the dash so it takes up almost no space at all.

If your vehicle already has a plug-in brake controller wiring harness, just connect the unit to it. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a vehicle-specific wiring harness (sold separately) to plug into. If a harness is unavailable for your vehicle, hardwiring will be necessary.

Note: If a custom brake control wiring adapter is not available for your vehicle, one of the following will be required:

20-Amp circuit breaker (9506P - sold separately) for 2- to 4-brake applications

30-Amp circuit breaker (38630 - sold separately) for 6- to 8-brake applications

See also etrailer.com's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

Proportional Braking

What is proportional Braking

The Curt TriFlex NEXT brake controller comes equipped with proportional braking to give you the best towing experience. Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The TriFlex uses an internal 3-axis accelerometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

The control works great. The reason for knocking off a star is that the control rattles whenever there is a vibration in the truck. While annoying, it doesn't affect the operation.

by:

I have not used this device yet but I have installed it. It looks kool. I hope installation orientation doesn't matter too much.

by:

The service and speed of delivery has always been great, thank you E Trailer.

Extremely easy to install and small enough to not be in the way. Works great as well….highly recommend.

Never a problem with etrailer

by:

The product I ordered was not available. There was a suggestion for another product, without the full knowledge that there are multiple other products, and I was only given one choice. It is what it is, if I knew of options, I would’ve made a different choice. Not a great company in terms of knowledge and service

by:

Was easy to install and works well.

Everything got here fast, and looks to be exactly what I need. Thank you!

Arrived as planed and was much smaller then my old clunky one. The custom cable harness was easy to install. Finding a flat spot to mount the controller took the longest to find the perfect spot. I gave a five stars because every was as it said. (Plug and play)

  • Curt Triflex Brake Controller Randomly Clicking
Is the controller showing any error codes when the clicking is heard? The easiest place to begin would be to reboot the controller. Unplug the harness from the rear of the controller for a few minutes then plug the controller back in, which could possibly fix the problem. If that doesn't solve the problem, disconnect the red wire feeding the controller. If the problem still occurs the controller is faulty and should be replaced. If temporarily disconnecting the red wire corrects the...

  • Troubleshooting Curt TriFlex Brake Controller that Flashes 1.0 With No Trailer Connection
This is a common issue when there is corrosion built up on the brake output pin of the 7-way. What this does is cause the controller to sense a slight amperage draw which confuses it into thinking a trailer is connected. The other thing you can try is unplugging the controller and plugging it back in. Sometimes the Curt controllers just need to have a hard reset to function normally.

  • Curt Triflex Controller Shows Decimal Point and 2.o
For the Curt Trifles the " . " means that the controller is in standby mode with not trailer connected. "2.0" flashing constantly means that it is in output adjustment mode. Have you tried connecting to a trailer to see if it works or not? You were correct in not wiring the CHMSL wire to the 7-way so it sounds like you may have everything set up properly. You might run through the setup process for the controller that is in the install instructions link I attached to see if it just...

  • Troubleshooting Curt Triflex Brake Controller that Is Flashing Numbers Randomly without Trailer
Sounds like you have a bit of corrosion on the brake output pin of the 7-way you have on your tow vehicle. Try cleaning the pin in the 5:00 position and should see that issue go away. When a trailer senses an amperage draw (which corrosion will provide) it will think a trailer is connected and show an output setting. Also the TriFlex is known to be a bit buggy so you might also try a hard reset by unplugging it and plugging back in. I attached a link to the install instructions/manual...

  • Why Doesnt Brake Controller Have an On/Off Switch
Like just about every brake controller available today, the Curt # C24VV TriFlex is installed with a direct connection to the vehicle battery and does NOT feature an on/off switch. This is intentionally done for safety reasons, to ensure that the end user doesn't inadvertently forget to turn the controller on before towing. After between 10-20 minutes of inactivity, a brake controller will go into a 'sleep mode', during which time the controller will draw a miniscule amount of power from...

  • What Does L.4 And L.5 Mean on Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller
The L.4 and L.5 you are seeing aren't actually error codes with the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV. Those are settings from the controller's sensitivity control, which will range from L.1 to L.9 and control the braking power you get with the controller.

  • LED Display on Curt C24VV TriFlex Brake Controller Only Reads 3 With Output Turned Up All the Way
According to my contact in the Tech Services department at Curt Manufacturing, what you're seeing with your # C24VV TriFlex is most likely caused by having the output or gain of the controller turned all the way up with the sensitivity turned all the way down. If you increase the sensitivity, you'll see more voltage output displayed. I would be curious to know why you have the controller output turned all the way up? You'll want the controller to apply enough voltage to the trailer brakes-...

  • Troubleshooting Curt Triflex Brake Controller With Dashes Displaying
What is happening with your Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV is that you have a poor ground connection most likely. I took a look at the manual for this controller and with your display showing two dashes the issue was either a battery that was not providing enough power - which we know based on the 12 volts you were getting not to be the case - or you had a poor ground, which is the leading cause of all wiring problems. So you need to double and triple check you have a good ground.

  • Curt TriFlex Brake Controller Output Numbers Jump when Going Over Bumpy Roads
The Curt Triflex # C24VV does not have a pendulum. That is an older technology that is not used that much any more. But it still could have been caused by the truck bouncing on the road if it was severe enough. It could also have been an electrical anomaly caused by flex between the truck and trailer connectors or the wiring on the brake magnets moving more than normal from the bouncy road conditions. Make sure the truck and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside...

The 2 red lines on the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV indicates a power or ground wire connection issue. You can pretty easily hardware the Triflex you have to the brake controller wiring of your 2005 Fleetwood Discovery but we do not have a plug-in style adapter that would work. You'll need to cut the connectors off and wire hardwire them together. Using a circuit tester find the wire that is hot all the time on the vehicle. Run that to the black wire of the controller. • Meaning of Error Code RC with Curt Tri-Flex Trailer Brake Controller C24VV
I could not find purchase history for a brake controller based on your email address but I do note that you referenced a question regarding the Curt Tri-Flex # C24VV. With this brake controller the code RC indicates that the unit needs to be recalibrated. You can accomplish this by unplugging the trailer connector from the tow vehicle, waiting a minute or two and then re-connecting it. I linked the installation instructions and troubleshooting guide for this item for your reference.

  • Curt Triflex # C24VV Doesnt Send 12V Power when Brake Pedal is Pressed
The Curt TriFlex # C24VV is a proportional brake controller with an internal sensor to help it know how much braking force to apply to your trailer. Since you are testing the 7-Way while sitting still in your 2008 Toyota Tundra the controller senses that little-to-no braking is needed to "stop" the trailer. If you are trying to adjust the brake controller for your trailer brakes then I recommend following the instructions which are linked to this page for you.

  • Why Doesnt Proportional Brake Controller Send Full Power to Brakes With Vehicle Still
It sounds like you have a proportional controller like the Curt TriFlex NEXT # C24VV you were looking at. These types of controllers have a sensor that can tell when the vehicle is in motion or not. This means if you're sitting still the controller won't send full power back to the trailer brakes because that sensor knows the trailer brakes don't need that much power. The manual override just pulls straight power from the battery and sends it to the trailer brakes which is why it doesn't...
