Easy-to-Access Brake Controller
The Tekonsha POD is designed to mount in any direction, and it's especially suited for mounting on near-vertical dashes. All the controls are on the front of the module, so you can still access them with the controller tucked away in a convenient place.
Braking Output
Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to set the braking output as high as you can without locking up the brakes. Once you've set up the brake controller the first time, you shouldn't need to adjust the settings until the trailer load changes, you switch trailers, or road conditions change. Use the thumbwheel on the side to change the braking output level. The output setting will appear as a number on the digital display, with a higher number indicating higher braking power.
Manual Override
The Tekonsha POD keeps the manual override within easy reach on the front of the module, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. Push the slide-bar lever to activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you re cruising.
Quick, Simple Installation
Because inertia plays no role in the functioning of this controller, you do not have to mount the unit at any particular angle. Your mounting options are limitless, with the controller designed with all of the controls on the front of the module so you can access them even if it's mounted upside down.
If your vehicle already has a plug-in brake controller wiring harness, just connect the unit to it. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a vehicle-specific wiring harness (sold separately) to plug into. If a harness is unavailable for your vehicle, hardwiring will be necessary.
Installation Accessories
See also etrailer.com's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.
Note: If a custom brake control wiring adapter is not available for your vehicle, a 20-amp circuit breaker (sold separately) may be required for installation.
Time-Delayed Braking
The Tekonsha POD comes equipped with time-delayed braking. Every time you apply the brakes in your vehicle, a signal is sent - via the brake switch - to the POD. The controller then sends power out to your trailer brakes to activate them with an intensity set by you, at a rate determined by you. The amount of braking power (output) can be adjusted to suit your preference, the road conditions, the type of trailer, and the weight of your load. To determine which levels are best for your application, test your towing setup and choose what feels right.

We have a Honda Ridgeline and needed this for our camper trailer. It was nice ordering the specific plug in wire for the Ridgeline and therefore eliminating hard wiring, just plugged it in. It was rough getting to the factory plug under the dash by the emergency brake petal switch. My hands are not small enough, ha ha. But success was had. Plugged into the controller and mounted it and u-wall-a. It works the way it is suppose to, I like that. A good quality unit that does what it is suppose to. thanks.202036
Very happy with this product. It fit nicely in my truck and plugged right into the factory wiring harness. Total installation time was under an hour. Easy to adjust, and works perfectly with my 5th wheel trailer. I simply pulled out the little storage cubby from the dash, cut the back off, slid the controller in, bolted it together, and stuck it all back in the dash. Looks and works great.610737
Exactly what I was looking for and needed ! It was delivered very quick . Actually I just ordered a complete wiring harness from you tonight . Your service and follow up is great1520942

Worked out perfectly for me, super easy installation with adapter harness. Work's flawlessly, easy one hand gain control with control's on front. My truck had nice cubby it fit in so out of the way and seamless look. Thanks for a great product and service.1043278
Purchased a Teckonsha Voyager brake controller and the ETBC7 install kit. The instruction an video were very clear and easy to follow. Installed on a 2007 Ford Ranger Sport. Tech support was also very helpful on the one question I did have.722791
I have been completely satisfied with this item. It has operated as advertised an has had no problems.

I have a Toyota Tacoma (06). I had the controller installed in less than five minutes. One minute to gather the tools: drill/bits, screw driver, and tape. I thought tape would be helpful to hold the ground screw to the driver given the tight are under the dash. One minute to drill the ground hole. One minute to install the ground screw. One minute to plug in the cables and fish the wire under the stirring wheel to allow for the controller to be mounted in the storage area found on Tacoma trucks dash. I guess I was wrong. It only took four minutes. I did not need to put the tools away I was off to do other projects. I rate the product as good because I have not tried it on the trailer yet.86205
The brake controller we purchased and had professionally installed works perfectly. We had it installed in our RV for use when towing a large vehicle trailer. It's reliable and simple. It was a great purchase!1739511

I received my purchase very quickly. I just installed the control and wire harness today. Installation was easy, all you need are basic hand tools and a drill with a small bit. Haven't had chance to test it out yet but, when I do I'll update. 388664
Easy to install in my Toyota-Tacoma 2012. I pull my Travel Trailer and this break controller worked very well and with just a little bit adjustment. Also this item was shipped very fast.89077
Have used the power track for a year with city and interstate travel and a 4000# single axle TT. Working flawlessly on my 20 Blazer using a bypass stoplight switch.1301037

Thanks to etrailer’s video “Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee”, the installation of a Tekonsha PowerTrac controller on my 2003 Jeep was very straight forward (and I’m not a car guy!). Like in the video, I used the wiring kit (#5506). I forgot to order a pigtail wiring harness but was able to pick one up locally. Took the trailer out last weekend and the brakes worked great.517695
The controller was a great option for our 2021 forest river FSX and gave me plenty of control over the brakes. It does require a adjustment time to time but has always worked when brakes are applied. The setup and installation were a breeze and has worked for many trips.1722801

The drawtite hitch and trailer wiring harness fit great. Instructions were clear and concise. Installation was a breeze. I am ready to tow my little trailer now. As soon as I get the brake controller installed, I will be ready for my big trailer. 733602
I ordered everything to install hitch an and 7 pin plug. Everything went great. Parts were all perfect and instructions easy to follow.1725172

The control works great. Nice incremental application of wheel from nothing to hard on! Led light goes from green to red also in incremental degrees. Installation was a snap in my 2008 F150 with tow package. Just Plug in the control clip and the other end in the terminal above and to the right of the computer check terminal. Rather than have it below my dash I opted for the cove below the lighter. Etrailer did a nice job of getting out to me right away and kept me informed where this was at all the way to my door. Good Job!79780
Product arrived quickly and installed very easily. Plug and play with the correct adapter (3035-P Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Ford, Lincoln, Mercury) for a 2001 Ford F-150. Controller is very easy to set the braking on your trailer. 268066
If your truck comes with the tow haul package.... this item is literally plug and play. I had it wired up and all mounted inside of thirty minutes. It's literally 4 wires and the stock system wires are labeled along with the brake contoller. I haven't tested it yet but so far I am thoroughly impressed!304865
This part was quick and easy to order and I received it sooner than expected. My mechanic said the installation was easily accomplished and looks great on my car. I would not hesitate to order from etrailer again!1315604

I ordered the powertrac with the 22292, 2011 ford F150 wiring adapter, It works great. 15 mins, and I had everything ready to go. It is a little sensitive to adjust but ones you get the feel for it, it takes no time to adjust. very happy with this unit, I would recommend this unit to everyone.380737
Purchased this as part of all parts required to convert 1996 Jayco over to electric brakes. Very happy with results. Surprised to see after winter in storage that the battery supply still shows full charge.1560415

Installed on 2003 Toyota Tundra with the factory tow package. Installation was a breeze with the included vehicle specific wiring adapter. It took me about 45 minutes total. Looks professionally installed. Easy to use. Set the adjustment for your specific trailer and go!558057
Perfectly wired directly to existing wiring that I had for the previous brake controller I replaced with the, Draw Tite I Command. This will make it a lot easier should I choose to upgrade the unit in the future. Fantastic customer service from Joshua as well.940470
Actually, I haven’t used it. I have an original Tekonsha that I have used for about 16 years with 3 previous cars and trailers and it is still working fine. It gives me much more information about the operation of the trailer brakes than the model I purchased from you. Since that controller is very old and yours was not very expensive, I decided to keep it as an emergency spare. Thanks for Checking,1500173

Due to the multiplex wiring used in the stoplamp circuit of your Ram, most time delayed controllers (including the 39523) aren't sensitive enough to 'read' the input received on the red wire that tells the controller that the brakes have been applied. This is why we don't have that brake controller listed in the fitguide for the 2015 Ram.
The # 3024-P you currently have will work, but you'll need to use a different brake controller.
I'd recommend going with the Brake EVN, part # TK63VR. view full answer...
You should be looking for a white wire for the cold side of the brake switch on your 2000 Chevrolet K2500. I have linked a installation video below of a Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller # 39523 being installed on a similar 2000 Chevrolet pickup. The technician does mention that at times he has found the correct wire to be yellow, so you will want to test it with a Test Light # PTW2993 to ensure that you have the correct wire. view full answer...
Yes, the Reese PowerTrac part # 39523 and # 20127 would be all that you need to install the brake controller in your 2012 GMC Sierra. The 4 wires of the harness would wire to the blunt cut wires you have under the dash of your truck too.
I attached an install video that shows this controller installing in a very similar 2012 Chevy truck as this as well. view full answer...
It may depend on how old your Tekonsha is, but if the plug matches the # 20127 you will be good to go. From what I could find, they have not changed the plug for quite some time so there should be no issue, but I do suggest double checking first. view full answer...
There basically two types of brake controllers: time delay and proportional. Time delay controllers, like # 39523 that you have referenced, send back a pre-set amount of voltage over a certain amount of time which can be adjusted. It can take some time determining the best set up for any given trailer when using a time delay controller and there is more wear and tear on both the vehicle and the trailer. The benefit is that time-delay controllers do not have many mounting restrictions.

The 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada wasn't equipped with prewiring for a brake controller.
The easiest installation would be the Curt Echo, part # C51180 which works wirelessly, using your smart phone as the in-cab control unit. As long as your Bravada has a functioning 7-way trailer connector with functioning 12-V power on the pin in the trailer connector pin in the 1:00 position, the Curt Echo will be a plug and play installation that's even simpler that what you're looking for.

If the leveling of your brake controller isn't working properly that wouldn't indicate a problem with the vehicle. Instead that would indicate the controller is either not level side to side or has an internal problem. This is actually the second Voyager I've seen in the past couple days with this exact problem. The other guy ended up determining it was an internal problem and had to replace his.
For a brake controller replacement I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part view full answer...
Your 2013 Ram 1500 should have 2 plugs that you would use the Adapter # 3023-P to connect the Tekonsha PowerTrac # 39523. If you didn't use the adapter for the installation then it makes sense that your trailer brakes are only working when you use the manual override.
If you check out the attached installation video of the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 and the Adapter # 3023-P on a similar 2013 Ram you can see how the red wire from the adapter connects to a separate 2 pin plug that is right above view full answer...
The 1998 GMC and Chevy C/K series trucks weren't prewired for a brake controller like the newer trucks were, so you'd need to hardwire the controller which is a pretty simple process. Along with the # 39523 brake controller, you'll also need the # ETBC7 brake controller installation kit. If you don't already have a 4-pole trailer connector to tap into the lighting circuits, you'll also need a T-connector, part # 118315.
The install kit includes all the wire, circuit breakers and hardware view full answer...
To install the Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller # 39523 on your 1998 GMC C/K Series Pickup, you will want to use a universal wiring pigtail, # 20127. There is not a custom fit wiring harness available to install the # 39523 on the 1998 C/K Pickup.
To provide a 7-way connector at the rear of your vehicle, as well as the wiring needed to install the electric brake controller, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers # ETBC7. The installation view full answer...
The brake controller adapter for the Tekonsha brake controller # 39523 is different from the 2002 Chevy Tahoe to the 2016 Chevy Silverado.
The correct adapter for the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 is the # 3016. The adapter that fits the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe is the # 3025-P.

On your 2019 Ford Ranger, there isn't any wiring under the dash for a brake controller. You can either use a wireless trailer brake controller like the Curt Echo # C51180 or you can hardwire a controller of your choice using the wiring kit # 5506. Your factory 7-way should already have the 12V power connected, so you can simply use # 10-1-1 for wire from your battery to the circuit breaker # 38630 and then to the brake controller. Then use the same wire from the blue brake controller view full answer...
For your 2020 Chevrolet 2500 I recommed the Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles - Time Delayed Item # 39523. This controller has the time delay feature as well as automatic leveling. The adapter cable you need for your truck is going to be the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers Item # 3064-P. To get your factory brake controller enabled you need to take it to a dealership and have them flash the computer to have it turned off. If you view full answer...
If the Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller part # 39523 displays a constant green light then there could be one of a few different things happening, there is a short on the brake output wire or the black power and white ground brake controller wires are reversed which would then have destroyed the brake controller. The brake output wire is a blue wire that should be run from the back of the brake controller all the way back to the trailer connector. If you are 100% certain there view full answer...
In order to use the Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller part # 39523 on a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 you will need the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3020-P which plugs in under the dash near the emergency brake pedal.

If your 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 came with the factory 4-Flat then it will be equipped with the brake controller port under the dash that you can use to install a brake controller like the Tekonsha PowerTrac # 39523 you were looking at with the Plug-In Adapter # 3020-P.
In addition to making this connection though you would still need to use the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 to convert the 4-Way to a 7-Way and add the additional wiring needed. On your Ram the blue (brake output) wire is not view full answer...
It sounds like you have a Time-Delayed controller like the Tekonsha PowerTrac # 39523. If this is the case then what is happening is that the controller sends back the full amount of power that you have it set at when you first press the brake pedal or use the override. Then when the controller senses that not as much power is needed it starts to fade.
If your trailer is braking normally on the road and you have a time-delayed controller everything is operating normally. If this is not view full answer...
When hardwiring a Tekonsha PowerTrac brake controller part # 39523 to a vehicle like your 2004 Toyota Tundra the wiring colors on the controller should go red on the controller to a circuit that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied, blue for brake output which is what goes to the trailer connector at the rear of the vehicle, black goes to 12 volt power to power the controller, and white goes to ground. Check out the diagram I attached for more info. view full answer...

Sounds like it could be the way your brake controller was installed. I would first check the connection of the red wire, this should be connected to the brake light switch wire that is only active (hot) when the brakes are pressed.
Since you have a 2008 this newer body style has been known to need to be hardwired when installing the brake controller to function properly. I have linked a step by step Help Article for you to look at.

If your trailer brakes are only working when you apply the manual override the issue is commonly the red wire - the stop light switch. Make sure it is connected to the circuit that that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied. The issue with not displaying numbers does make me think that the brake controller may have hit the fritz and need to be replaced though, and this would be true if the numbers never display, even when using the manual override.

So the "Er" code on the Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller indicates an internal problem, and the controller will need to be replaced. I recommend going with a higher quality unit from Tekonsha, the BRAKE-EVN:

The # TK63VR is also a proportional controller, which is an upgrade over the time-delayed Activator because proportional controllers apply the brakes in your trailer with the same force as you apply the brakes view full answer...

The way a brake controller works is sort of like you described. In many proportion controllers, you actually have to be moving to get voltage when applying the brake but will see voltage when applying the manual override. The controller actually senses how much the vehicle is decelerating using an internal sensor. It does not monitor how hard you press the pedal but it does sense when you are pressing the brake. Of course usually how hard you press the brake does effect the rate of deceleration.

This will work with the Tekonsha P3, Voyager, Prodigy, and Primus Brake Controllers. Also works with Draw-Tite Intella-stop Xtreme, Intella-stop Ultra, Intella-stop Digital, and Activator III (5520) brake controllers.
If this isn't what you're looking for, let me know and I'd be glad to assist you. view full answer...
There is one additional step that is required on your 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche that was not covered in the video with the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. There is a red wire located just outside the engine compartment fuse box that needs to be attached to one of the front lugs inside the fuse box. You will need the M8 Nut # 185917 to complete this step. I have linked a video below for an installation we did on a similar Avalanche so you can see the additional step towards the end of the video. view full answer...
When it comes to your 2022 Chevrolet Suburban the Tekonsha Brake Controllers do not have the plug and play adapters for your vehicle. You will have to splice those 4 wires into your Prodigy P3 controller using the Replacement Brake Control Plug-In Harness # 20127, and this will activate your controller.
I linked an installation video below on a different vehicle but it is the same concept.
