Expert Answers about Stromberg Carlson

  • Replacement Landing Gear Drive Leg for a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Replacement landing gear leg # LG-179013 fits landing gear set # LG-1 and # LG-183708. The size of 5th wheel trailer landing gear is pretty much all the same. Some install differently than others. This particular type requires brackets welded directly to the trailer frame like in the picture I included. A set like # BD500161 on the other hand has brackets that get welded to the frame. If you are unsure of the brand you have it is possible that if you get a replacement leg of a different...

  • How to Determine the Difference Between the New and Classic Body Styles for a 2007 Chevy Silverado
  • The easiest way to tell the difference between the 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic and New Body Style is the tail gate or the tail lights. The new body style will have a large Chevy bow tie emblem in the center of the tail gate. It will also have red tail light assemblies. Take a look at the parts I have linked that show the new body style and the classic body style. If you have a classic model, you will need to use # VGM-99-4000. I do not believe the new body applied to the 2500 and 3500...

  • Troubleshooting Landing Gear Not Lifting 5th Wheel
  • Any powered landing gear or powered tongue jack will draw less power as it legs descend down toward the ground and much more as soon as they make contact and encounter resistance. This is a normal occurrence. In the same way, any jack - even a manual hand-crank type - requires less power (or force) when lowering the trailer than when lifting it. The cause for your powered landing gear losing steam could be any of several possibilities. These include the trailer's battery not being rated...

  • How to Pick Out RV Landing Gear that Will Bolt Up to Trailer
  • To pick out landing gear that will bolt right up to your 2011 Keystone Cougar 291RLS will require you to measure the distance between the mounting brackets (underside of top bracket to top of lower bracket as shown in the diagram). If that distance is 17-1/2 inches then you would want to go with a Bulldog set like the part # BD500161. The jacks would be the correct replacement for Lippert, Venture, and Atwood landing gear, as well as those from a few other manufacturers. If your frame...

  • Recommended Replacement Motor For Landing Gear With Atwood 75721
  • It sounds like the clutch in the motor may be failing on your Atwood landing gear. It may be slipping which is causing the clicking sound. Since you said helping the motor with the manual crank helps the gear box will not be the problem. The replacement motor you need is part # LG-142178. This will attach directly to the gear box you have and would be a great fit. I called my contact at Atwood and they told me the legs of the landing gear are what the weight capacity is based off...

  • How to Wire Up and Install Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack, # JET-3500
  • The Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack, # JET-3555, runs off a 12 volt battery. The best source for power would be from a 12 volt battery (like a car battery) mounted on the trailer. The red power wire on the Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack, # JET-3500, is the power wire and it will attach to the positive battery terminal on your trailer battery. First, remove the fuse in the in-line fuse holder on the red wire. Mount the jack to the trailer and tighten it down. The jack grounds through the mounting...

  • 5th Wheel Landing Gear Motor Makes Loud Clicking Noise and Will Not Raise Trailer
  • It could be the motor but it could also be the screw/nut inside the jack leg that is causing the problem. Since you mentioned that it is hard to crank it manually I suspect that it is likely the screw and/or nut. On jacks that have an ACME screw the nut is fixed inside the jack and screw turns which raises or lowers the leg. On most screws the ends are crimped to prevent over extension causing the screw to come out of the nut. If the screw reaches that crimped part of the threads it...

  • Availability of Replacement Lead Jack and Parts for Stromberg Carlson 5th Wheel Landing Gear # LG-1
  • The jack with the motor is referred to as the lead jack, while the other jack is called the follower. Since the jack on the motor side is in need of replacement, you would need the lead jack. The lead jack is not terribly difficult to replace. You would need to disconnect the drive rod that connects the two legs, remove the lead jack, install the replacement lead jack, and pull the motor and gearbox off the defective jack and install on the replacement. If you were using the Stromberg...

  • Is the Stromberg Carlson # LG-179013 the Same as the Lippert Universal Fit Lead Jack # 179013
  • I spoke with my contact at Stromberg Carlson and the Replacement Lead Jack with Drop Leg, # LG-179013, is the same part as the Lippert Universal Fit Lead Landing Gear, # 179013. The only difference between the two products is that they are sold through different companies so the part numbers are slightly altered. • Scissor Jack Recommendation to Replaced Damaged Ones on R Pod Trailer
  • For a pair of stabilizer jacks that would have more than enough capacity that would work well on your R-Pod I would recommend the Stromberg Carlson Trailer Scissor Jacks part # JSC-24. These have a 5k capacity per jack and would do a great job as long as you just use them for stability like you said you would. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Tongue of R-Pod With Electric Tongue Jack
  • To mount a bike rack to the tongue of your R-Pod you will want to start out by using the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier for A-Frame Trailers # CC-275. This will give you a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver opening for you to use a bike rack with. From the top of the A-frame of your R-Pod to the top of the cross tube is 33-1/2 inches, which should clear your electric tongue jack, and it has a weight capacity of 100 lbs. • Replacement Landing Gear for 2009 Keystone Challenger
  • We do not have any type of database with a list that has the parts for each year, make and model of trailer so you will need to do some measuring to figure out what will fit on your 2009 Keystone Challenger. Measure your landing gear brackets from outside to outside like in the accompanying photo and if they have standard weld stop measurements of 17-1/2 inches outside to outside and 15-1/2 inches inside to inside I recommend checking out the Electric Landing Gear Set # LG-3.

  • How to Carry a Bike Rack on the Front of a Trailer with Two Propane Tanks
  • The Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer # CC-275 that you referenced would be a great option for allowing you to carry a bike rack above the dual propane tanks of your trailer. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this carrier is the Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack part # S64670. This rack has a ton of positive reviews from our customers who have tried it. Check out the review video I attached for more info. You could use a strap like the part # SR18679 to secure...

  • Troubleshooting Electric A-Frame Trailer Tongue Jack, # JET-3555 Blowing Fuses

Turn clockwise to extend the jack and counter-clockwise to retract it. I spoke with one of our installers about the fuses blowing. I like the quick-release handle for extremely easy height adjustment. You simply press the button to release the inner tube and adjust as necessary. I think these will be just fine for your large slide-out. The Stromberg Carlson slide-out support # JB20 or # JB30 both have a 10,000 pound weight capacity per jack. The # JB-20 can adjust between...

  • Troubleshooting a Electric Jack that will Extend but not Retract
  • It sounds like the switch in the jack is bad and should be replaced. Typically when an electric jack will go one direction but not the other its because the switch is broken. You might try checking all the fuses on the jack also. Since your trailer is brand new I would imagine there is some kind of warranty that would cover your jack. I would try contacting where you bought the trailer.

It has a combined weight capacity of 6,500 pounds and the direct-drive motor will reduce strain on the jack for easy stabilization.
