Expert Answers about Gen-Y Hitch

  • Can Gen-Y Hitch Torsion Ball Mount be Used with an Equal-i-Zer Weight Distribution System
  • I verified with Gen-Y hitch that their torsion ball mounts, like part # 325-GH-1225, can be used with other manufacturer's weight distribution systems, however it isn't the best option. Instead of one of the torsion ball mounts I recommend the Torsion Weight Distribution Shank, part # 325-GH-1202. It's designed specifically for weight distribution systems and will replace the shank on your Equal-i-zer.

  • Locking Hitch Pin Needed for a Gen-Y Hitch Being Used with a 2017 Toyota Tundra
  • You most likely have a Gen-Y hitch that is compatible with a 2" receiver like part # 325-GH-516. This means that you would need to use the Gen-Y Hitch Pin # 325-GH-096 which is comparable to the locking hitch pin # WS05. If you happen to be using a Gen-Y hitch that fits a 2-1/2" receiver, like part # 325-GH-624, then the Gen-Y Hitch Pin # 325-GH-099 that comes with it is comparable to the locking hitch pin # BD580412.

  • Is Stabilizer Bar Kit # 325-GH-0100 Needed When Using the Gen-Y Adjustable Receiver # 325-GH-316
  • To address your initial question, yes, if you are using the Gen-Y Adjustable Receiver # 325-GH-316, that has a 12-1/2" rise/drop, then you will need to use the Gen-Y Adjustable Stabilizer Bar Kit # 325-GH-0100. The reason being that the adapter hangs down so low that in order to use the lowest receiver normally and keep the weight capacity of 10,000 lbs requires some extra stability. You will want to ensure that 12" of drop is exactly what you are needing by measuring from level...

  • Recommended Gen-Y Torsion Ball Mount for 2017 Ram 3500 Towing Daily
  • For your 2017 Ram 3500, I recommend the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount - 5" Drop/Rise # 325-GH-1224 or the 7-1/2" Drop/rise # 325-GH-1225 depending on the height of your trailer in regards to your trailer hitch receiver. Both are rated for up to 16,000 lbs towing and tongue weights up to 1,700 lbs. These 2 inch stacked receivers are very durable and well made for even commercial grade level applications. If you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver, then I recommend the 6" Drop/Rise # 325-GH-1324...

  • Overall Length of Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount 325-GH-1225
  • I went to our warehouse and measured the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount # 325-GH-1225 for you. From the center of the hitch balls to the nearest of the hitch pin holes the length dimension is 15-3/4-inches; the two hitch pin holes are spaced apart on center by 1-1/2-inches. Please refer to the photo I prepared for you with these dimensions indicated. The longest standard 2-inch ball mount we offer, part # 80232, is 15-3/4-inches long but is rated for only 6000-lbs.

  • Recommended Gen-Y Torsion Hitch For 2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty
  • Yes, the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers # 325-GH-1125 is great for your needs, since your trailer and boat have a combined weight fully loaded of about 10k pounds. This product has a drop of 7-1/2" and rise of 7-1/2" which appears to be in line with your needs. The Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches # RH5-XL is a great addition to # 325-GH-1125.

  • Options for Towing a Boat Trailer and Carrying a Bike Rack
  • I may have a solution for you, however, our ball mount manufacturers do not currently offer a dual hitch receiver with a 4 inch drop. One possible solution would be to use a longer ball mount with a 4 inch drop like the Curt Extra Long Ball Mount, # D-26, and use a towing bike rack like the Swagman XP Towing Bike Rack, # S64955. This bike rack wraps around the shank of the ball mount and can carry up to 3 bikes. The tongue weight capacity of the Hidden Hitch ball mount is 600 lbs,...

  • How to Prevent Hitch Pin Hole Deformity
  • It is not extremely uncommon for the hitch pin hole on a trailer hitch receiver to become oblong after frequent usage. This is usually attributed to frequent back and forth movement of the shank inside the receiver tube opening that in time will deform the hitch pin hole. A good way to prevent or reduce this would be to use an anti-rattle device like part # 325-GH-033. Since the hitch pin hole on your existing trailer hitch has become deformed then I do recommend replacement as the problem...

  • We have a great hitch that will work well for you. The Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/Stacked Receivers, Item # 325-GH-315, is one of our top-end hitches that is heavy duty and very adjustable. It has a maximum towing weight capacity of 10,000-lbs and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 1,500-lbs. It has a maximum rise/drop of 10-inches. It comes with two balls: 2-inch and 2-5/16-inch. I reached out to my contact at the manufacturer and they are not directly compatible with other weight distribution systems, but I do have some options for you. The first option is to use the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank - 2-1/2" Hitches - 7" Drop/Rise - 21,000 lbs # 325-GH-1302 for your 2-1/2 inch receiver...

As you can see in the accompanying photo, the distance from the center of the hitch pin holes to the middle of the 2" and 2-5/16" balls is 9" while the distance from the hitch pin holes to the center of the 1-7/8" ball is 9-1/2". • Hitch Extender Needed to Tow 9,700 lbs with a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500
  • Since none of our extenders are a viable option (either too short or not rated high enough for weight), your best option would be to use a ball mount with a long shank. Part # 325-GH-064 is rated for 21,000 lbs, fits a 2-1/2" hitch receiver, and extends out 12". If this can accommodate your truck camper then this is what I recommend using. If that doesn't work then you will want to uninstall your current Titan hitch and swap it out with the TorkLift Trailer Hitch # TLD1101. This will...

  • What is Included in the Gen-Y Weight Distribution System Part # 325-GH-302
  • The Gen-Y Weight Distribution System part # 325-GH-302 comes with everything you see in the attached photo except for the ball mount. This includes the weight distribution head, spring bars, tensioning chains, and frame brackets. The only three things you will need to install this system is a trailer hitch, ball mount, and hitch ball. If you can provide me with the amount of drop and receiver tube opening size you need, I could then recommend a ball mount that is compatible with this system....

  • Anti-Rattle Sleeve for a 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch using a 2 Inch Reducer
  • It sounds to me like you looking for an anti-rattle sleeve that will work with the 2-1/2" to 2" reducer sleeve you have on your Class V 2-1/2" trailer hitch receiver. For this you will need two sleeve's, one for the 2-1/2" opening using part # 325-GH-063 and one for the 2" opening using part # 325-GH-033. The above anti-rattle sleeve will do a great job of reducing rattle and hitch movement. Each adapter has two hex head set screws which will both tighten the device to the ball mount...

The distance from the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball will differ depending on which size ball you are using. When using the 1-7/8 inch hitch ball, this distance is just about 9 inches. When using either the 2 inch or 2-5/16 inch hitch ball this distance is 8-1/4 inches. This ball mount features a 10,000 pound towing weight capacity and...

  • Can Grade 8 Bolts on an Adjustable Trailer Coupler Be Replaced with Hitch Pins
  • I spoke to my contact at Bulldog and they cannot recommend substituting the grade 8 bolts that came with the coupler for a set of hitch pins. This would void the warranty of the coupler and more than likely a few SAE requirements. If you choose to do so anyway then you would need a hitch pin with a 5/8" diameter and a usable span of at least 3-1/2" for which you can use part # 325-GH-099. If you would like to replace the 5/8" diameter grade 8 bolts you can use part # PS024202.

  • Recommendation to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer with Gooseneck Hitch
  • I may have a solution for you, however the Gen-Y Gooseneck Coupler # 325-GH-7061 referenced in your question is a gooseneck coupler inner tube that will pair with an existing outer tube. This will not allow you to tow a fifth-wheel trailer with a gooseneck hitch on your truck. For an option that will allow you to do this while also leaving the truck bed free when not towing, I recommend looking into a Reese Goose Box like part # RP94623. This is designed to replace the pin box on a...

  • Minimum Tongue Weight for Shock Absorption of Gen-Y Ball Mount to Work
  • It is correct that for each of the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mounts that we carry, such as # 325-GH-1224, the minimum tongue weight needs to be 1,200 lbs. Unfortunately there isn't a ball mount with shock absorption which will work for your tongue weight, but I do recommend checking out the Solid-Tow Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # DTSTBM6400. This uses a self-tensioning, anti-rattle system to stop rattling and movement in the hitch of your 2017 Ford F-250. It has a 4" drop or 5" rise and comes with...

This system has a total tongue weight capacity between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs so to determine if this is the correct weight distribution system for your needs, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready...

  • Recommended Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount for 4 Place Snowmobile Trailer
  • The Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers # 325-GH-1224 is built very strong but it will be a really nice benefit to towing your heavy snowmobile trailer. It will absorb the shock and allow you to have a smooth ride. It is rated much higher than you 6,000 lb max trailer, but it will do exactly what you are hoping in taking the brunt of rough roads and pot holes versus transferring it directly to your truck frame. This is a heavy adapter, but we have had very positive reviews...

  • Will the Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount Shank Reduce the Tongue Weight Rating of the Trailer Hitch?
  • The Replacement Shank for Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop/Rise - 10K # 325-GH-303 is a ball mount and not an adapter, so it will not reduce the tongue weight of your trailer hitch. You will however still be limited to the tongue weight rating of your hitch of your vehicle. You technically do not need to account for the 23 lbs of tongue weight this ball mount adds to the system, but it would be wise to include it because it is much heavier than most other ball mounts.
