Expert Answers about Gen-Y Hitch

  • Hitch Extender Needed to Tow 9,700 lbs with a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500
  • Since none of our extenders are a viable option (either too short or not rated high enough for weight), your best option would be to use a ball mount with a long shank. Part # 325-GH-064 is rated for 21,000 lbs, fits a 2-1/2" hitch receiver, and extends out 12". If this can accommodate your truck camper then this is what I recommend using. If that doesn't work then you will want to uninstall your current Titan hitch and swap it out with the TorkLift Trailer Hitch # TLD1101. This will...

  • Is Stabilizer Bar Kit # 325-GH-0100 Needed When Using the Gen-Y Adjustable Receiver # 325-GH-316
  • To address your initial question, yes, if you are using the Gen-Y Adjustable Receiver # 325-GH-316, that has a 12-1/2" rise/drop, then you will need to use the Gen-Y Adjustable Stabilizer Bar Kit # 325-GH-0100. The reason being that the adapter hangs down so low that in order to use the lowest receiver normally and keep the weight capacity of 10,000 lbs requires some extra stability. You will want to ensure that 12" of drop is exactly what you are needing by measuring from level...

  • Availability of Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers for 2-1/2 Hitch
  • We do carry the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers - 2-1/2" Hitch # 325-GH-1125 that you mentioned. This is designed to fit a 2-1/2 inch hitch like what you have and has up to a 7-1/2 inch drop. The ball sizes are 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch. As long as your key looks like one of the ones pictured the BOLT hitch lock you'd need is the part # BL7018447 which is for 2-1/2 inch hitches and for Ford keys.

  • Can Grade 8 Bolts on an Adjustable Trailer Coupler Be Replaced with Hitch Pins
  • I spoke to my contact at Bulldog and they cannot recommend substituting the grade 8 bolts that came with the coupler for a set of hitch pins. This would void the warranty of the coupler and more than likely a few SAE requirements. If you choose to do so anyway then you would need a hitch pin with a 5/8" diameter and a usable span of at least 3-1/2" for which you can use part # 325-GH-099. If you would like to replace the 5/8" diameter grade 8 bolts you can use part # PS024202.

  • Recommended Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount for 4 Place Snowmobile Trailer
  • The Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers # 325-GH-1224 is built very strong but it will be a really nice benefit to towing your heavy snowmobile trailer. It will absorb the shock and allow you to have a smooth ride. It is rated much higher than you 6,000 lb max trailer, but it will do exactly what you are hoping in taking the brunt of rough roads and pot holes versus transferring it directly to your truck frame. This is a heavy adapter, but we have had very positive reviews...

  • How to Determine Correct Gen-Y Weight Distribution System
  • Weight Distribution Head for Gen-Y Drop Hitches # 325-GH-300 is compatible with 2" receivers and is part of the Gen-Y Weight Distribution System for 2" Gen-Y Drop Hitches # 325-GH-302, which includes the spring bars. This system has a total tongue weight capacity between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs so to determine if this is the correct weight distribution system for your needs, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready...

  • Recommended Gen-Y Torsion Adjustable Receiver Options for 2-1/2 Inch Receiver & Weight Distribution
  • The Gen-Y Torsion Adjustable Receiver w Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 7.5"/2.5" D/R - 16K # 325-GH-1225 is compatible with the Gen-Y weight distribution system # 325-GH-302. I reached out to my contact at the manufacturer and they are not directly compatible with other weight distribution systems, but I do have some options for you. The first option is to use the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank - 2-1/2" Hitches - 7" Drop/Rise - 21,000 lbs # 325-GH-1302 for your 2-1/2 inch receiver...

  • Can Gen-Y Hitch Torsion Ball Mount be Used with an Equal-i-Zer Weight Distribution System
  • I verified with Gen-Y hitch that their torsion ball mounts, like part # 325-GH-1225, can be used with other manufacturer's weight distribution systems, however it isn't the best option. Instead of one of the torsion ball mounts I recommend the Torsion Weight Distribution Shank, part # 325-GH-1202. It's designed specifically for weight distribution systems and will replace the shank on your Equal-i-zer.

  • How to Prevent Hitch Pin Hole Deformity
  • It is not extremely uncommon for the hitch pin hole on a trailer hitch receiver to become oblong after frequent usage. This is usually attributed to frequent back and forth movement of the shank inside the receiver tube opening that in time will deform the hitch pin hole. A good way to prevent or reduce this would be to use an anti-rattle device like part # 325-GH-033. Since the hitch pin hole on your existing trailer hitch has become deformed then I do recommend replacement as the problem...

  • Best 2 Inch Weight Distribution System for a 2018 XLR Hyperlite 30HDS Toy Hauler
  • If the total tow tongue weight which is the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer added to any weight stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle is indeed 1,314 lbs, I recommend using the Gen-Y Weight Distribution System with Friction Sway Control part # 325-GH-301 which is rated for use with a total tongue weight up to 1,600 lbs. The Gen-Y Weight Distribution System is an excellent option for you and will be one of the only choices you have without upgrading to a 2-1/2"...

  • What is Included in the Gen-Y Weight Distribution System Part # 325-GH-302
  • The Gen-Y Weight Distribution System part # 325-GH-302 comes with everything you see in the attached photo except for the ball mount. This includes the weight distribution head, spring bars, tensioning chains, and frame brackets. The only three things you will need to install this system is a trailer hitch, ball mount, and hitch ball. If you can provide me with the amount of drop and receiver tube opening size you need, I could then recommend a ball mount that is compatible with this system....

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Reducer Sleeve for 2-1/2 Inch Receiver Opening and 2-1/2 Inch WD Shank
  • For your new Dodge Ram 2500, the 2-1/2 inch Receiver can be reduced using the Gen-Y Hitch Reducer Sleeve - 2-1/2" to 2" # 325-GH-007 and is compatible with weight distribution systems. If you want a better fit for a weight distribution system, I recommend instead using the Curt Weight Distribution Shank for 2-1/2" Hitches # C17128. This will allow you to use your same weight distribution system and have the best connection to your 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver. This will be compatible...

If you want something that isn't going to break then you will not be disappointed. If you want to be the envy of all your friends then you won't be disappointed. If there is a tougher ball mount out there I haven't seen it. If your truck has a 2 inch receiver opening then I recommend going with # 325-GH-1224. It has...

  • Recommendation to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer with Gooseneck Hitch
  • I may have a solution for you, however the Gen-Y Gooseneck Coupler # 325-GH-7061 referenced in your question is a gooseneck coupler inner tube that will pair with an existing outer tube. This will not allow you to tow a fifth-wheel trailer with a gooseneck hitch on your truck. For an option that will allow you to do this while also leaving the truck bed free when not towing, I recommend looking into a Reese Goose Box like part # RP94623. This is designed to replace the pin box on a...

  • Weight Capacity of Gen-Y Aluminum Loading Ramp Set 325-GH-R96
  • The USA-made Gen-Y Aluminum Loading Ramps # 325-GH-R96 have a combined capacity of 10,000-lbs, well above your actual load of 7900-lbs, so I would expect no issues with loading your Excursion. The ramps have 20% more capacity than you need and I would consider that a very reasonable safety margin. Each ramp weighs about 50-lbs despite their lightweight aluminum construction so that suggests that a lot of material is used in their fabrication. I cannot comment on your original ramps...

  • Minimum Tongue Weight for Shock Absorption of Gen-Y Ball Mount to Work
  • It is correct that for each of the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mounts that we carry, such as # 325-GH-1224, the minimum tongue weight needs to be 1,200 lbs. Unfortunately there isn't a ball mount with shock absorption which will work for your tongue weight, but I do recommend checking out the Solid-Tow Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # DTSTBM6400. This uses a self-tensioning, anti-rattle system to stop rattling and movement in the hitch of your 2017 Ford F-250. It has a 4" drop or 5" rise and comes with...

Both are rated for up to 16,000 lbs towing and tongue weights up to 1,700 lbs. These 2 inch stacked receivers are very durable and well made for even commercial grade level applications. The issue is that the system features a tongue weight capacity of 1,600 pounds. I spoke with my contact at Gen-Y Hitch who confirmed that the Torsion Weight Distribution Shank for 2-1/2" Hitch # 325-GH-1102 does have the standard width of 2" for the head and mounting holes 1-1/4" apart on center. If you are using a weight distribution head from Equal-i-zer like part # EQ90-02-1000 then they are compatible with each other.
