  • Coupler Lock With 1/4 Inch Diameter Pin Recommendation
  • For our hitch receivers, we offer hitch receiver locks that have either 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch diameter pins. Depending on what you intend to use the locking pin for we do have other options available. We carry locking coupler pins that may work for you. The first lock I recommend is the Master Lock Adjustable Trailer Coupler Lock, part # 2847DAT. This is a 1/4 inch diameter pin that has a keyed lock and is adjustable to fit lengths of 5/8 inch, 1 inch, and 2 inch. Another coupler lock...

  • How to Bench Test Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies and Magnets
  • Testing your trailer brakes for proper function on the test bench will require a multimeter that can display readings for both amps and ohms, such as part # BTMT15. (Some brake controllers, such as the Tekonsha P3, have built-in test functions.) You will also need a 12V battery. Please refer to the linked article concerning the testing procedures for electric trailer brakes. This article includes a table of the correct current values you should read for various sizes and numbers of...

  • Mounting Location for Black Bull Pickup Truck Crane with Hand Winch # BTBB07582
  • I spoke with my contact at Buffalo Tools and the installation instructions for the Black Bull Pickup Truck Crane with Hand Winch, # BTBB07582, state that you should choose a location in your truck bed that is flat and can handle a load of up to 1000 lbs. Be sure that the mounting area is free from wires or other materials that will affect the operation or the structural integrity of the vehicle. In most truck beds this spot will likely be just behind the wheel well. I have attached a...

  • Primus Brake Controller Side Lever Adjustment and Light Staying On All of the Time
  • It sounds as if you have a Tekonsha Primus brake controller without the boost function built in. Your controller should have a power adjustment wheel on the left side and a manual brake activation slide switch on the right side. If there is a lever on the side it is most likely a leveling lever that needs to be set so that the sensor in the controller is level and will supply the proper voltage with deceleration of the vehicle. The lever for leveling the brake controller is normally...

  • How To Troubleshoot Electric Trailer Brake Magnets
  • I have attached a helpful article that explains 4 methods for testing your electric brake magnets. You will need a multimeter like part # BTMT15 to check the amperage when testing the magnets. The article explains how to test the magnets while the trailer is connected to the vehicle and also explains how to do bench testing to see if the magnets are working properly or need to be replaced.

  • What Amperage Circuit does the Electric Scissor Jack Need for Proper Operation
  • The Buffalo Tools Electric Car Jack, item # BTEJ212, is designed to run on the cigarette lighter circuit in the vehicle. I went out to my truck and checked that circuit and it is a 20 amp circuit. That means you will need at least a 20 amp ac to dc converter for proper function.

  • Troubleshooting Journey Brake Controller Flashing LED, Trailer Brakes Not Working
  • Based on my research, when the LED light is flashing on the Journey, it indicates there is a short in the system. Since you found the same issue at both trailer connectors on your truck, it sounds like the issue is on the trailer. You will want to check your trailer electric brake wiring for any cut, pinched, or damaged wires that could be causing the short. I do not think a wet connection is the problem. If you find any damaged wires, you will want to replace the wire that is damaged....

  • Brake Controller Stop Light Switch Wire Hookup on a 2007 Suzuki XL7
  • I have not heard of any problems when installing a brake controller on a 2007 Suzuki XL7. The issue you heard about may have been due to hooking the red stoplight switch wire from the brake controller up to a wire dedicated to the cruise control system. I have heard of problems with the cruise control wiring on the XL7. A brake controller only draws a small amount of current from the stoplight circuit for activation of the brake controller. The actual power sent to the trailer brakes comes...

  • Can Buffalo Tools Trailer Dolly # BTTRDOLLY Be Used on Trailer With Coupler for 2 Inch Trailer Ball
  • The Buffalo Tools trailer dolly will work just fine with your trailer. If you were towing your trailer down the highway, you'd need to make sure that your trailer ball is the same size as the coupler on the trailer. However, since you'll be using the dolly to move the trailer by hand at a slow speed, the fact that the ball on the dolly is too small won't make a difference. The dolly has a 600 lb capacity.

  • Height of the 1 7/8 hitch ball on the Buffalo Tools Trailer Dolly with 1-7/8 inch Ball - 600 lbs
  • I spoke with our contact at Buffalo Tools and they told me that the distance from the top of the ball to the ground when the dolly is fully assembled is 15 inches. As long as the trailer tongue weight is under 600 lbs it should make no difference if the trailer has 15 inch tires or not.

  • Troubleshooting a Brake Controller That Keeps Tripping the 20 AMP Circuit Breaker
  • Definitely sounds like you have a short somewhere on your break controller circuit. You will need to check the 12-volt black power wire to see if anywhere from the controller to the battery the wire is frayed and touching any metal. A frayed wire could cause a surge and trip the breaker when the pedal is pushed. If the wire is ok, then you need to do the same with the white ground wire. Make sure the ground is connected to a rust-free and clean spot on your vehicle. If all the...

  • How to Start the Buffalo Tools Sportsman Series Generator # BTGEN4000LPC
  • If this is the first time you are starting your 4000 Sportsman Generator part # BTGEN4000LPC you will first need to add oil to it, connect the gas source, choke the engine, ground the ground terminal, make sure there is no load connected to the generator (AC or DC), and then finally pull the starter grip slowly until resistance is felt and then pull rapidly. For more details on each of the above mentioned steps check out the installation instructions link I attached to the right.

  • Loading an 850 Pound Motorcycle Into Bed of Truck
  • We do not know of any customers that have used the Black Bull Pickup Truck Crane # BTBB07583 that you referenced to load a motorcycle in the bed of their truck. The crane is not specially designed to load something as large bulky as an 850 pound motorcycle into a truck bed. Because of how close the boom will need to be to the pivot point to hold the 1,000 pound capacity, I do not think you will have enough clearance for the likely width of your bike at the crane. Because of the weight of...

  • Getting Power To Trailer Brakes But Brakes Not Activating on 2010 322 Toy Hauler
  • There are a few things that could be causing the problem you are having with your trailer brakes. First, you will want to check the adjustment to your brake assemblies. When turning the trailer wheel, you should be able to hear the brakes barely brushing all around as the wheel spins. If that is not the case you will want to adjust the brakes by accessing the adjustment gear on the back of the brakes (see video link). You will want to tighten up this gear until you cannot easily spin the...

  • Troubleshooting Electric Brakes Locking Up on Trailer
  • Since you seemed to have narrowed the possible cause down to the vehicle side of your setup, I recommend starting with the 7-Way connector at the rear of your tow vehicle. Check for any corrosion or debris build-up inside the connector that might be causing a short and clean as needed. If the connector looks fine, use a multimeter like # BTMT15 to test for voltage at the brake circuit on the connector when you have the brakes applies using a low setting. With this setting, you should...

  • Troubleshooting Output Shorted No Brakes Message on Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller
  • It does sound like there is a possible short with the brake magnets on your trailer, especially if all the wiring looks good between the brake controller and vehicle connector. I recommend first making sure that each magnet has one wire secured to the trailer frame for ground and the other is connected to the brake output circuit. Check that there are no damaged or exposed areas that might be making contact to the trailer frame. If the wires all check out, then you will want to test...

  • Testing Brake Magnets
  • I have attached a helpful article that explains how you can test your brake magnets to see if they need to be replaced. The article explains how you can perform 4 different tests to see if your magnets are working properly. You can use a digital multimeter like part # BTMT15, to make sure you are getting the correct amperage. Many times the cost of replacing the entire brake assembly is not much more than replacing the components such as the magnets.

  • Is Hydraulic Jack Or Hand Crank Winch Used For Lifting Load With Black Bull Pickup Truck Crane
  • When using the Black Bull Pickup Truck Crane, part # BTBB07582 you will position the boom with the hydraulic jack to the height you need first. Then use the winch to lift the load and swing it on to the truck bed. When winching the load if you should slip off the handle it does have a brake and would not free-wheel if released. The boom has 4 positions and as the boom arm is extended it does reduce the load capacity of the crane. This crane does come with mounting hardware. I have attached...

  • Can BTMCT Crimping Tool Be Used For 2-Gauge Wire In Bulldog Winch Wiring Kit
  • The Buffalo Tools 3-in-1 Modular Crimping Tool, part # BTMCT is designed to be used when stripping wires and crimping modular plugs and is not designed for a 2 gauge wire that is used with the Bulldog Winch Wiring Kit, part # BDW20207. I recommend using a good crimping tool to attach the terminal to the large 2-gauge wire for the kit. We do not offer a crimping tool that is capable of crimping 2 gauge terminals but they are available at most hardware stores.

  • How to Test Brake Magnet Amperage With Multimeter
  • You are correct, the BTMT15 is only designed to measure up to 10A which will not allow you to measure for 4 or 6 brake magnets on a trailer. In this case I would recommend using a multimeter with a higher amperage rating or testing the magnets separately. At this time we do not carry a multimeter capable of testing more than 10A. The next section of our brake magnet testing article details how to test each magnet separately to determine if one or more of the brake magnets on your trailer...

  • Using Buffalo Tools # BTEHOISTUL Hoist to Tip Snowmobile Trailer Up Against Garage Wall
  • Since the Buffalo Tools Hoist is meant to lift and lower objects straight up or down, you'll need to use the included pulley block and mount it on the wall or ceiling above where the trailer sits. The hoist would mount on the ceiling so that the spool faces the pulley. I'd recommend installing a sturdy eye bolt or other fastener to the top edge of the trailer. This will be the attachment point on the trailer for the hoist. Since the trailer will be rubbing against the wall as it's...

  • Can Buffalo Tools Electric Car Jack be Used to Change a Tire on a 2014 Honda Odyssey
  • The Buffalo Tools electric car jack # BTEJ212 is rated for 2,000 pounds. Since it is only lifting part of the vehicle and not the whole weight of the vehicle it can be used to change a tire on your 2014 Honda Odyssey. Once you have the vehicle up high enough it should then be let down on jack stands such as # PTW41021 since jacks are not meant to hold the weight by themselves.
