Aftermarket Plug & Play Harness Compatibility with Tow-Pro Liberty
Affected Vehicles: 2018+ Toyota 4Runner
Part Number: RED24FRIt has come to REDARC's attention that some vehicle models, in particular, Toyota 4Runner MY18+, have implemented an additional diode in-line with their factory tow package harness (i.e. the electric trailer brake controller connector, brake light trigger circuit). This diode has been introduced to eliminate any positive back feed being applied to the vehicle brake light circuit, in the event of the electric trailer brake controller emergency over-ride being applied. This additional vehicle diode, if connected with an aftermarket plug & play vehicle-specific brake controller harness with a diode, causes the brake light trigger voltage to be lower than the voltage at the Tow-Pro Liberty battery input (BLACK wire) by 1.5 Volts or more, which will result in the Tow-Pro Liberty not calibrating. It has been determined that Tow-Pro Liberty's (Part Number EBRH-ACCNA) manufactured with a serial number starting with 2006xxx, 2007xxx or 2008xxx may be affected by this issue. Please refer to the small white label on the side of the Tow-Pro Liberty main unit for your serial number. Changes are currently being made to the Tow-Pro Liberty to eliminate this issue. In the meantime, if your Tow-Pro Liberty does not calibrate, please contact REDARC directly for a replacement and free of charge plug & play harness that will overcome this issue.
