Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 20137 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector. Now, this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 2003 to 2006 Toyota Tundra trucks. This part will give you the ability to tow trailers with the different style trailer connectors. Your vehicle must have the factory 7-way in order for this harness to fit. This'll plug right into the connectors that are on your vehicle. If you notice, the 7-way is in a nice, durable, hard plastic shelf for protection.

This does provide the 7-way connector, has a spring-loaded cap with the seal on it to keep any dirt or grime from getting into the connectors, and it also has this 4-way, which has a nice dust cover over it also to protect the terminals when you're not using it.All this is included that's shown on the table. The mounting bracket and the hardware's all included to install this to your vehicle, and a nice set of detailed instructions. But, basically, all you have to do is take your mounting bracket, slide the cords through there, bring that up. You'll notice the four holes will line up just like that, and then you'll have two at the top that you're going to attach to your vehicle, but also it's nice, you notice there's a cut-out there, and it's made specifically for the 4-way to stick right in there. You just slide your 4-way in there and that'll be at the back of your vehicle. You have access to the 7-way and then the 4-way right over here. But that should do it for the review on the Replacement Multi-Plug 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connector..

I backed into something with my old Tundra truck and destroyed the 7-pin trailer connector. Toyota wanted $292 for a replacement! I got this one for about $50 with shipping. It seemed to be high quality and was a plug-and-play replacement. I highly recommend it. 651091

This connector isnt a fit for your vehicle, a Toyota FJ Cruiser. its a fit for a 2003-2006 Toyota Tundra.

Please ensure that you check your plugs if you already have a factory 7-pin adapter. I have a 2004 4Runner and after starting the install I discovered the plugs on my vehicle (4 and 3 pin) did not match up properly with the adapter. The four pin plug worked but the 3 pin adapter was incorrect for my vehicle model. The adapter end was exactly the same as the one on my vehicle (I believe male to male connector). I called support and it looks like they make two different wiring configurations. 1 model has the 3pin male and the other model has the 3 pin female. I spoke with customer service (a nice young lady) and we were able to get the order setup for the right part (HM43374). 425575

Product over all is a nice unit. Turns out though there is 2 different options for the GX470 and I didn’t realize. Make sure you look to see which one is correct. This one wasn’t the correct one I needed, put in my order for the correct one after realizing. Only way to know is to get under and look at the plugs on your vehicle. This one has one female plug(4pin) and one male plug(3pin) so make sure you are ordering the correct one 447000

The product was good quality. Loved seeing the install video before purchasing. The only complaint I have is the wiring harness was too short for 2003 Toyota Sequoia. I could not attach the bracket back to the metal where the oem plug was. I had to drill holes into the plastic bumper and barely bypasses the hitch bar. 424538

Comments

I had to remove this product and reinstall the old wiring. In all fairness, it may have not worked due to the previous owner messing with the truck wiring. It didn’t work for me. However I would still recommend the product and believe it would work well on an OEM install.

Works well. One complaint would be that I wish it was a little longer for use with the socket tekonsha mount as my controller stays in the box of the trailer. It is a shared trailer and there is no point to buying two separate controllers. 369376

2003 Toyota Tundra

The product was easy to install. One minor alteration was needed. I had to enlarge both of the mounting holes ever so little. Just a few runs with a small rat tail file did the trick. It is sturdier built than the OEM. All the pigtail wiring was flawless on the product. No more trouble shooting when I switch trailers back and forth. Also, I no longer have to use an adapter when switching between 7way and 4pole wired trailers. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. 337268

Harness was super easy to install. I did tweak the install by using better screws than what were provided for the frame. I used self tapping screws that were much larger. This harness fixed my problem. The OEM harness got some salt water in it and was causing my trailer lights to not work. Connected to the vehicle wiring harness with no problems. While attaching the base unit to the vehicle, I had to attach it to the bumper which is plastic, so I used a stiffener to the bottom of the bumper. It was easier to pre-drill the stiffener to the unit on the floor for ease of mounting unit to bumper. It was mounted left of the hitch and it looks very good not to say so myself. I received my 2003 Tundra trailer wiring pigtail in short order which is a pleasant surprise. I haven't installed it as yet because I haven't been able to get the old one off as yet. I'm scheduled for an appointment with Toyota for an oil change and they will take the old one off. But I have compared the new one to the old one and it appears to be an identicall fit. Now instead of having a seperate 4-way flat hanging down I'll have one attached to the 6 way plug. My complements on the quality and fit of this item. 125369

As others have said the mounting holes are to close together but that was a easy fix. Other than that it was easy to install and works great. 117273

The holes on the mounting bracket that mounts on the bumper has to be drilled out. Other than that very happy with this product. Would recommend this to any one. It is equal in pries to a 7 pin to 4 pin adaptor and is far better and more versatile. Strongly recommend 116984

Product quality was good.Mounting bracket a little "cheaply made"not very strong. Also bracket holes did not match up with factory holes in bumper.Needed to make holes bigger to mount.Overall very happy with product. 102351

  • For your 2005 Toyota Tundra, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, # ETBC7. • Since your Tundra is rated to tow your trailer the only thing I really recommend going with, if you already have a hitch like part # 13184 and wiring like part # C59236 or # 20137, is a weight distribution (WD) system. This will not only level your towing setup but it will also improve the handling of your trailer if you choose a system with integrated sway control. The best WD system for any towing setup will have a tongue weight (TW) range that the total tongue weight (TTW) of your...

  • Recommended Replacement 4-Way and 7-Way Wiring for a 2003 Toyota Tundra Without a Tow Package
  • The # 20137 would not be a fit for your 2003 Toyota Tundra, as it will only work on models with the factory tow package. In order to first replace the 4-Way plug, you will need to use a hardwire kit, like part # 119179KIT. The # 119179KIT wiring kit is a universal application, so vehicle specific instructions are not available for your Tundra. You will need to use the included circuit tester to determine which wires behind your vehicle taillights are performing which function, and...

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for 2006 Toyota 4Runner
  • We do have replacement connectors available for your 2006 Toyota 4Runner, all of which will provide both a 7-Way and 4-Way flat connector. If you have a 3-pin plug and a 4-pin plug at the rear of your vehicle, then you will need either the Tekonsha # 20137 or the Hopkins # HM43385, depending on how they are pinned. The issue is that Toyota wired many of their vehicle models during these years in two different ways. You will need to match the wiring with the diagram on the 3-pin connector,...

  • How To Determine Functions of 2005 Toyota 4Runner OEM Trailer Wiring Harness
  • In order to know what wires on the new vehicle-end connector will connect to which wires on the OEM harness, you will want to use a circuit tester, like # 40376, to test the wires in the OEM harness for their functions. Once you know the wires functions, you will want to connect them to the new vehicle-end trailer connector by function. It is easiest to test the wires functions if you have a helper who can sit in the driver's seat and activate the turn signals and other lights as needed...

This will plug into your factory tow package wiring harness and give you a 7-way and 4-way at the rear of your vehicle. It looks just like the # 20137 picture, but has a different connector for the 2008 to 2010 Toyota Tundra.
