I have (2) Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 kayaks and was looking for something better that the cheap J-Shape kayak holders that I purchased elsewhere. Unless you are tall enough to lift the kayaks and install them from the side, the loading of a kayak on it's side is unwieldy and somewhat frustrating to keep the kayak from flipping to a horizontal position. I am using the factory racks with crossbars on my 2006 Toyota Highlander. I was looking for a solution that would allow me to load 2 kayaks with the keel down. Using a large bath mat to protect the paint I was able to load the kayak by myself and I am 5'6". The one thing that they could improve is that the rubber pads on the wings are very tacky. Once that you set the kayak onto the wings, the kayak will not move back and forth. You will find it very hard to move the kayak front to back once it is set in the cradle. This is a good thing since the kayak could slide off should a strap fail. The Pungo 120 has multiple angles so the contact with the wings are very minimal. The rubber does keep it in place before strapping them down. Once you load the kayak onto the wings, it will stay where it is.. it is a kind of a struggle to move the kayak.. a solution is to throw large beach towel on the wings before loading your kayak and you can position the kayak with ease. Once you have centered your kayak, lift the kayak one end at a time and remove the towel. Bow and stern tie downs are necessary to completely secure your kayak. The wings are 28" across and will rise 6" above your crossbars that you attache them to.

Bought two sets for two boats. Installed on a 2020 Forester and will be able to carry two boats side by side. Sturdy racks and easy to assemble and install and will be easy to remove when not in use. They will also fit on truck racks so the ease of install/removal will be a real plus. Side by side mount on this vehicle required placing the racks a little more outboard than I like but should not cause any problems. I will strap the boats to the crossbars as suggested in the instructions for additional stability.
PS. one set was returned merch. Got a better price and can't tell that it was ever out of the box. Yay me.

I paired the Swagman Exo rooftop kayak carrier with the Darby truck extender and it worked great at solving my problem of clearing my trucks light bar that is mounted on top of the bed sports bar. Got the new kayak strapped down and ready for its maiden voyage this weekend!

The Swagmag Kayak Carrier were a Perfect fit for our custom Kayak carrier.

by: Brad T06/30/2019

Use these to carry our kayak on top of our F450 while pulling a fifth wheel trailer. We have had no issues. The boat is securely fastened with a minimal amount of effort. Finding the proper location, front to back, eliminates any air sound from the kayak.

Comments
Holds our 10 ft. kayak well as we travel across the country pulling our 5th wheel trailer. Easy to slide the kayak into the mounts.

Very simple to install. Nice durable quality. Impressed by design. Fit my new kayak great.

by: Riverseakayak06/27/2020

Holds our 15' long sea kayaks securely, so no issues with the actual functionality. Installing and removing is pretty easy. I have generic 80/20 extruded aluminum cross braces on an old Land Cruiser. Sturdy. After a year, they still look new.

Getting the straps connected is a bit of a hassle, but the biggest problem is loading. There are sticky light-gray rubber pads to hold the kayak securely, which prevent you from sliding the boat in to position when loading/unloading. On top of our tall SUV, it makes loading the boats very difficult. We tried placing temporary towels on the wings but it's always windy and blowing them off during loading/unloading. For a smaller and lighter boat, on a shorter car/SUV or trailer, probably much easier.

Still using them and they seem to be good value. Works OK and they're minimal looking and not too noisy (without the boats on). With the boats on and straps in place, it howls like a pack of wolves. I wouldn't want to go far like this, just due to the noise.

by: Nicole 08/09/2021

I was definitely nervous the first time using the Swagman Exo Aero, but I needed a carrier that could handle my new Discovery Solo Canoe. It was easy to load and unload while using my trusty stepladder, and performed well even on the highway with speeds up to 70mph. I travelled about 65 miles on the longest trip so far. The boat didn't shift or slide at all, I believe the anti-slip wings helped (it was also properly tied down).

by: van08/16/2016

Works well and is well made.
No a quick
on and off the roof.
Screws provided to attach rack to rails were way too long and all had to be cut. They have a unique head which made it impossible to just get shorter screws.
Does not fold flat so garage door opening has to be pretty tall.

by: Kenneth03/25/2020

Like the way my kayaks sets and rides on them. Easy to strap down kayak and move brackets around on the racks for defought kayaks. I have all type of kayaks from fishing, touring, crossovers and creek boats. They work great for all of them. Great price compared to other brands. Will be order more, just was not sure how I would like them. I replace the tie down straps with once form e trailer, they was nothing wrong with them, I just liked the etrailer straps better. Thanks etrailer

These kayak carriers fit the bill for what i was looking for.Tried the J style carriers, but loading required a step ladder and picking up the kayak over my head was haphazard for me.With these,i slide the kayak up the back of the vehicle to the carrier. The price of these were substantially less the Malone's "wings" as well. E-trailer offered a competitive price and the shipping was prompt. Good job etrailer....Thanks...

by: Joe06/16/2018

Great service always a pleasure shopping with etrailer. The kayak saddles were listed for use with car and SUV roof racks I mounted them on the cross bars on a Triton canoe/ kayak trailer the worked great easy to install with supplied hardware.

by: Rudi12/18/2017

Product as described. I am preparing for a trip from Michigan to Florida. I set up the Exo Aero saddle style carrier on my roof rack to test out the system . Everything fit well and my fishing kayak seemed very secure in the carrier. I am confident the kayak will be secure for my future trip.

by: Robert01/24/2018

Very happy with this product. Works with all my kayaks. Very happy with customer service. I will order from etrailer.

by: Frank M.06/05/2015

The item is as discribed and well constructed. It is easly assembled and installed to roof rack. It makes loading and hauling the kayak easy.

by: David 12/23/2019

Shipped promptly with clear instructions and easy assembly.

Should work well. I look forward to an improvement over the foam pads I've been using. I will no longer worry about my surf ski sliding sideways when loading and unloading.

by: Jeff01/09/2020

Great product , etrailer video made install so simple. Delivery of purchase come very quick.

by: Ted J06/23/2018

Although it's good quality for the money and job to hold kayaks, you need to have a sea/ww kayak for best results, I should have bought something for a canal kayak. Still it's good quality. Would recommend buying it even though I needed something different.

by: Michael 06/05/2020

this worked better than the Yakima answer at a fair price.

by: Roberto05/01/2019

This product is great to carry my 12ft pedal kayak 80lib. Very strong and affordable priced. It is an excellent purchase

Easy loading with a secure tie-down. This is the kayak carrier you should get the first time.

I've used flat bars with foam pads - they deform the hull of plastic boats. I've used J-hook style carriers which work well and hold the boat securely without hull deformation, but they increased the windage and are too hard to load on the top of a 4WD pickup.

The Malone SeaWings let me slide the kayak on from the rear of the cab while standing in the pickup bed. I use an old bath mat to protect the cab and I can have the boat loaded and tied down in about 5-10 minutes. I also think the load is much more secure than any of the other carriers I've used, especially if the tie-down strap is wrapped around the load bar. The design of the SeaWing puts the main load out on the curved portion of the hull rather than across the flatter area of the bottom and totally avoids deforming the hull. In 90-100 degree heat this is very important to me.

Great product. I'll probably get a second pair so I can load two boats on the truck.

by: Michael07/28/2022

We are very pleased with this product. My wife's 12.5" and my 17" kayaks are easy to load, tie down and, hold them both securely for highway speeds. Once we are at the launch site, kayaks are just as easily offloaded. Great design, simple and elegant.

by: Robert 02/15/2023

I use these when towing an RV and they work perfectly. Seems like ratcheting straps could be built into the wings for simplification.

by: Maggie04/29/2022

Exactly as advertised. Easy to install. The bolts were not long enough for our rack (ADARAC) requiring us to buy longer bolts. Not really an issue. We purchased one SeaWing Kayak carrier and one with the load assist for the 12 footer.

Our kayak club has many members that use this carrier. Since I have back issues, I will use mine on a Malone Eco Light trailer toted from to/from the water using a kayak carrier. Note: Being on a low trailer and so 'accessible', instead of the wingnuts, I bought metric hex nuts to double-nut the bolts to add some security.

by: John05/25/2022

These racks were exactly what I wanted them for. I have slightly heavy fishing kayaks, so this design is so much easier to get my kayaks on my shell of my Tacoma. I have traveled over 600 miles with kayaks on these racks without a single problem they stay perfectly in place. I would definitely recommend these racks!

by: David01/29/2021

Overall this has been a great acquisition. I live in a townhouse in a largely retirement community where restrictive covenant are...well restrictive. I have a modest sized garage and I would be obliged to store my Hobie PA14 and trailer in the garage or take it off site. The retractable tongue has made storing the trailer a breeze.

I have had no problems with the trailer structurally whatsoever. I had an issue initially with the wheels being badly out of balance but chalk that off to my inexperience. I changed out the tires to another set that was rated for max speeds of 80 mph. My son in law and I put both his kayak and my Hobie on the trailer and we take off to the eastern NC coast or HHI and I've never had a problem. Added a DrawTite hitch silencer which really quieted things down when pulling in my Outback. Malone mounting blocks really work well for my Hobie water wings. Also added a recent spare mounting bracket which also has worked well.

Absolutely no problems with the electric circuits and lights in salt water.

Overall great trailer. Couldn't be happier. Malone makes the best kayak trailers out there. etrailer has been great too with ordering, service , and overall reliability.

by: Stephen 01/26/2023

Nice design, seem durable, easy to install and use.

by: Paul 08/22/2021

It works as well as I expected it to. The kayak straps to the carrier instead of the rails of the car and movement from wind can be encountered. I found it profitable to add straps that tie the unit and kayak to the car's rails.

by: Ron03/09/2022

Easy to install and low profile allows me to leave it on and still park car in garage. Wilderness Pungo 12' kayak loads easily from rear of Subaru Crosstrek. No wind noise.

by: Dennis 06/19/2020

Love these malone kayak saddles. Have two on square bars on our Toyota Rav 4. Easy to load from rear of vehicle, which is great for older person like me. My two Pungos look good and are solid on saddles. Better than J style. Recommend!

by: Henry 07/19/2020

First time using etrailer and was very satisfied with their service. Ordered Malone's SeaWing and can't wait to try it out this weekend. looks like a great product that will serve me well.

by: Mark 02/11/2021

Well...box arrived it only a few days (great) but UPS left it at top of my 180' driveway...standing in a snow bank, near the road and I only realized it was there when i walked out to get the regular mail (bad).
Opened box and all looks to be in order.
Cannot install it till spring but am very much looking forward to that time.
I had spent a week looking online and wanted a rear loading unit...this one checks all the boxes and appears very well designed.
I would like to have seen one of the t knobs been some type of keyed lock setup for security reasons but not having one is easily resolved once i install product in the spring.
I believe i will be very satisfied with my choosing this Malone product once i am able to
install it in the spring.
(sorry guys...can't do a five as it is WINTER!! and product is sitting in the box till April)

by: Gregory04/23/2022

Very easy to install Will be a little learning curve to use the lift assist.

by: Dave 08/21/2022

Never a complaint with any of my purcha ses!

by: Joey 11/21/2020

customer service gets an A+. I am working with a slightly different application for this setup where as I will be installing into the truck bed floor. Have Yakima round bars and need adapters to mount on inside walls of truck bed. Do not want the Kayak sitting high on the bed, just 6 to 10 inches off floor. will update with project

by: Theresa 09/07/2021

Replaced my Malone J rack with this SeaWing and have found it much easier to load my kayak by myself! I load from the rear of my Subaru Outback and pushing the kayak up flat is much easier than up and twist; especially after a long paddle!

by: William 09/25/2018

I have purchased 2 sets. of the Malone Sea Wing's. They are the best. 2015 Ford Explorer. 2 10' Kayak's. 3000 miles & no problem's.

by: Jesse C07/22/2020

Has been excellent. I unmount during winter, but during the spring, summer and early part of fall, it stays on my car the whole time outside in the sun, etc... I have not had any problems at all

by: George04/08/2022

Excellent product. Easily installed

by: Max 05/19/2021

Great kayak rack. We bought 2 for our 2017 Nissan Rogue and they fit perfectly.

by: William 07/23/2021

Great fit for kayak, hardware holds great on round bars. Just what I needed!

Do you have a question about this Watersport Carriers?

  • Difference Between Malone SeaWing and MegaWing
  • So the big difference between the Malone MegaWing part # MPG207 and the SeaWing # MPG107MD is the weight capacity of either. The MegaWing is rated for up to 150 lbs and the SeaWing 75 lbs. You'd be fine with either as your Pelican Catch 100 has a weight of 65 lbs. Since the price is very similar going with the higher rated MegaWing seems to be the best value though.
