The Product installed with no problem. I just got back from a 900 mi. round trip to Utah. I was in elevations from 1000 ft above sea level to 9000 ft. above sea level. I It hooks up very easy and is very good compared the my old system. I would have given it a Excellent except that it (rotated) turned about 1/4 of an inch.on the king pin as you can see on the Photos. I will be drilling holes in the King Pin Extension and putting in the four bolts before I take it out again. I was suprised that I did not receive the optional bolts nor was I asked if I wanted them. .I did order on line so I accept responsibility for it. At no time did I feel any safty issues. I had replaced the suspension on my trailer with the easy ride system and combined with your Convert-A-Ball Cushioned System my wife said there was a huge emprovement and I also felt a big difference it the Truck. It is a well engineered product and my raiting will go to Excellent after I put in the four Bolts. You can send me the bolts or I will get my own. Attached are some photos of my Truck and Trailer. The Trailer is a 2000 Forrest River Sierra Sport Toy Hauler. I bought it new. 9200 Dry. (2) 6500 lb Axels 1900 lb. on the Pin (est) If Questions, Feel free to call Have a Great Day JoeB 141891

How do you plan on installing the 4 additional bolts?

-- comment by: Carlos G - 07/27/2014

In the installation instructions Convert-A-Ball discusses the optional installation of additional bolts. However, these bolts are available only for the customer to contact the manfucturer, and are not sold individually. To gain access this is usually done by disassembling the pin box, or by drilling access holes in the plate, but this all depends on the configuration of your pin box, and if this adapter is intended to be a temporary or a permanent solution.

-- Rachael H - 7/29/2014

I did as I said I would do and I drilled four hole in the pin box and installed four bolts. I feel much more confident in the system. I am very happy with it at this time. To drill the holes I removed the pin box and used the adapter for a pattern, I then drilled the holes by hand. 1/2 in Drill

Joe, what is the box length of your Ram?

-- comment by: Raymond L - 10/21/2015

Raymond L.: My Ram is a 3500 4X4 SRW It has the 8Ft bed. I pulled the same Toy Hauler with two different Quad Cab PUs over the years with 6-12 ft. beds. One 2WD and one 4X4 before this one. I ordered this P/U as a Std. Cab. It is set up like a Laramie inside. towing I get 10-13 MPG. Empty 22 MPG It tows at any speed I want in the Mountains.

Bought a truck with a heavy duty gooseneck hitch. Found a fifth wheel we wanted to buy. I ordered the CAB-C5G with 3 day shipping. It was here in 3 days! The unit was very heavy and the packaging was very well done. I read the instructions and gathered up the tools needed for the installation. We drove about 125 miles with it still in the box not knowing exactly what was going to happen. The seller and I took about a half hour to install it on the trailer and a few more minutes to adjust it in his driveway. Once we got it out on the road we noticed the trailer was front high. We took about 20 more minutes in a parking lot to make the final adjustments. My truck is a 2011 GMC 3500 single wheel so it is pretty high. On the road we experienced no problems on the 125 mile trip home. I was a little skeptical about how this would feel going down the road but after a little while we were doing the speed limit at 70 mph on route 93 South in NH coming out of VT. We stopped after 50 miles or so to check the torque on the bolts and it was fine. This adapter was supposed to be a short term fix until I could figure out a fifth wheel setup with the given hitch, but I think I just may like this on a longer term. With the fold over ball, I can use the bed of the truck without having to remove a big heavy hitch. This adapter is HEAVY DUTY, emphasis on heavy! Hooking up you have to have the trailer a little higher than normal to clear the ball height. Also yo do not have the luxury of the 5th wheel to guide you in if you're a little off. Mostly pros with this unit, can't come up with any cons. Great product and I would recommend it. 377549

Just received the hitch Some of this must be UPS but you guys might need to up your game in the packing department. I can't imagine this hurting this chunk of steel so I'm not too concerned. I have opened the box and all looks good. It would help to have listed out wrench sizes needed for installation prior to receiving the item. That way I could be prepared if I don't own the right sizes. Thankfully I'm old and have many tools younger people don't have. I do have what is needed in my tool box. I did appreciate the videos online. They made me feel much more confident in my abilities to install this product with safety. I own a Ram3500 longbed and will be pulling a 2014 Jayco Eagle 35' 5th wheel. GWV 12060 unloaded. My truck came to me with a Gooseneck hitch built in and I do use the bed on a regular basis. Getting an adapter seemed the logical direction. I did receive a 5th wheel hitch along with the trailer and am planning on keeping it till I know I'm happy with the adapter. Now for installation... I'll need to report back after that is completed. So far I'm going with 3 stars as I withhold my true assessment till I am done and have driven this beast. 435445

I don't often write reviews, practically never. But this one deserves one. So, I didn't buy it that you could use this adapter without bolting it to the trailer. Just a sleeve around the king pin and the hitch around the sleeve. Didn't buy it. But, they guarantee it to hold as long as you install it to their specks. So I did. Here's how the story goes. I was backing my camper into a garage and forgot to make sure the door was all the way up. You can see where this is going. I hit the door. Rolled out from under the door and discussed with myself, inspected the damage. This is not the impressive part. So distracted with what I've just done, I get everything straight and continue. Now this next part is important, I drive a dually pushing out just under 700hp. I can do doughnuts or sit and roast the tires. Not that I do, but I can. I like my stuff to last. I say that so that you don't brush off the impressive part. Once I got my camper into the garage I put my truck into first and sat there with my foot on the clutch thinking about the damage I'd just done and, absent mindedly, popped the clutch. Now granny gear has enough torque to slow the rotation of the earth, and I just unleashed it onto an unbolted hitch holding my camper above my truck. It snapped so hard that it slammed my head into my seat and broke off some small shavings in my rear end. Not my butt, the rear end of my drivetrain. But, the hitch held!!! Upon inspection nothing moved! Other than flipping my truck over, I don't know how to put anymore strain on it than that. Thank you so much for building a quality product!!! I'm sold! What just cost me a few hundred dollars in parts, broken ac and garage door, could have been thousands. Thanks again. Truly, thank you. 176431

Installation is a breeze. I'm a short but stocky guy so installing it by myself wasn't hard at all. I just lowered the trailer to where I had enough leverage to hold the adapter up and be able to tighten the bolts down with the other hand. Torqued everything down to spec and was on the road in no time. Pulled off after 50 miles and retorqued everything as any good transporter does. This is where my review gets bad. The bolts that hold the adapter to the kingpin couple failed. They crushed on the ends and damaged the threads. Keep in mind, I followed the torque specs TWICE. I didn't have the twisting issues that others have had. It took me 30 min with a pull bar and a piece of pipe to get the bolts backed off enough to get the adapter off the kingpin coupler. Today I spent 30 min working ONE bolt completely out of the adapter and this is what I found. I am in contact with etrailer to get it resolved. The bolts and the inner threads are damaged. Hopefully this is just a lemon and I will get a replacement hassle free. Other than this, this is a great design and towed well. 233183

Great product but the bolt crushing problem is a major one that I am working directly with Convert-a-ball to get fixed. They admit it is on their end and we are working on

I want to thank Etrailer for the great customer service I received. Emily H, was very helpful in the process of my purchase. The c5g _1216 converter ball adapter was a very well made and sturdy product. And will handle the 39ft toyhauler that I have it installed on. The installation was very easy and simple. So thanks again Etrailer for a great product and fast delivery, and great customer service. Walter, R 233926

When I first received it I thought it would work out. But after using it for a couple of months, I had to remove it. The ride quality was terrible and the jerky ride while towing was unbearable. Plus the additional stress it put on the frame of my fifth wheel trailer over time would cause even more problems. So I removed it and installed a Curt fifth wheel hitch and now the ride is much better and smoother with no jerkiness. Would not recommend this adapter at all.

I recently bought a 36ft 5th wheel toy hauler and needed a way to pull it, we didn't really want to install a 5th wheel hitch because we didn't want the extra holes in the bed of the truck so we bought this. I was nervous at first but this hitch adapter work very well. It mounted to the 5th wheel easily and sat right on the gooseneck ball that came built into our truck. It also disconnected from the truck with ease. We have left it hooked onto the camper for now for quick movement if needed. 312825

I am still using the goose neck adapter, I now take it off if my camper is parked for a while just to reduce stress on the front end of the 5th wheel. I would recommend!

This deal that I bought.... Works.. I like this one the best. I look at the other goose neck cuppler that others were trying to sell me. I like how it was easy to just bolt it on the king pin. I own a 2500 Dodge Ram it sets high. And the travel trailer sets low, so all I did was set the springs on top of the axels. Problem solved. We went to Florida to get this travel trailer and where I live in Tennessee and the route we took home,, well we mist the one road and ended up on the dragon tail (Hy 129 ) the twisting and turning the up and down that this road has to offer. Made it to Duck Town where we pick up Hy 68 north and the twisting and turning that this road has to offer before we made it home in Madisonville Tn.. The cuppler didn't loosen up. No wiggles or wobbles. I don't know how many foot pounds of what ever to tighten them bolts to... Because I couldn't read the instructions.... The shippers didn't put the instructions in its own pack nor in a safe place in the cuppler.. The video was a god sent. And I just used cheater bar on the wrench. Problem solved. I'm gonna recheck the bolts just to be sure before we take a trip. But I'm sure there tight. And I'll send you guys a note if I mess up.. But that cuppler is on there and I gonna drill out the pin box and bolt the cuppler to the pin box just for a pice of mine.. Legrand B 288187

I still like it. Its money well spent. We took the camper out a few more times and October first were fixing to take the camper trailer over the mountains in North Carolina and camp for a few days. So I still say its money well spent.. Legrand Bloomstine

the hitch arrived in 3 business days as promised via UPS. It weighing over 70 pounds I expected the cardboard box to be thrashed. The box arrived in perfect shape, great job on packaging . I immediately ran out and and began installing it on my trailer. Things went terrible, I had the white line on the collar facing forward per the video and the instructions; it just wasn't lining up when I slipped the hitch up. Plus it would not go up and seat to the king pin plate. I called customer service and they were going to have a technician call me. I started taking the collar off and that's when I discovered I had installed it upside down?? I flipped it over reinstalled it and the rest of the installation went perfect as per the instructions. If I had not of made that error the whole thing would have only taken about 15 minutes. I felt kinda stupid because the collar is stamped this side up and has an arrow. None the less I called customer service back and told them of my error and cancelled the technician callback request. Great product, love the additional bed space I gained by going to the turnover ball with the etrailer adapter. 251555

We bought a 2001, 29' Keystone Montana 5th wheel, pulled by a 2008, F-450 with a gooseneck ball in the bed. I researched between the typical 5th wheel mount and the gooseneck conversion. YOUR videos and website gave me the most information, was clear even for a newbe like me and sealed the deal. The dealership that I purchased the 5th wheel from had never heard of this product and wanted to charge me about $125 installation for theirs because of the need to drill and weld. I told them about your product, gave them the You Tube and link. I bought yours and had it delivered to my house. The dealer was amazed at the ease of putting the unit on the 5th Wheel hitch and didn't charge me anything for the labor. I think they will be ordering product from you! Anyway, we have used it for only 2 weeks, it seems perfect in every way. Thank you so much for the ease of ordering, understandable videos, great website and order followup. The only suggestion I would have is to explain the difference in purchasing an offset unit vs. straight (like the one I bought) I was a bit jumpy about not knowing specifically which one I needed and why. Thanks for the great work, I am extremely pleased and I have been telling everyone about your company!!! 83825

Youd only need the offset if your truck was a short bed.

I bought a newer pickup that had a ball in the bed of the pickup. I purchased your convert-a-ball adapter, and used it last weekend for the first time. I was very pleased with the ease of installing it. my wife and I did it ourselves. It worked perfect. I feel very safe pulling our heavy rv, and using the convert-a-ball. Thanks for your great invention. It was as good as advertised, and more. 84930

We have had our convert a ball hltch for over a year, and have pulled with it thousands of miles. It has worked well, with no problems at all. We have gotten more than our moneys worth. thanks.

Researched several products similar to this and this was the best. Received it in a few days. Exactly what I needed for my camper. Installation was easy. YouTube video was very helpful. Will recommend to anybody. 35775

what is distance from rear bumper and lower front of fifth wheel. also it looks like you ,are at a skew with your adapter, is that with all the weight lowered on to the truck. if not how well does it tow like that.

The space between is about 2-1/2 feet. Plenty of room. That is how my hitch sets fully, its mostly due to me running 315s on my tires. But Ive pulled it all around the south and even up to the Great Lakes. Never once had a problem

We just installed and pulled a 5th wheel toy hauler 400 miles!! A what a great product, converter was heavy duty, 1 1/2 hours to install and set up. We have been pulling a goose neck horse trailer for years and was so happy that this adapter enabled us to haul this new trailer without any problems. The toy hauler (10,000 lbs empty) pulling was great and tracked straight, even with the 25+ miles per hour of wind all the way home. Just went between 55 and 60 miles per hour no problems. We are pulling the trailer with a 1999 F250 Superduty. Also have to say that etrailers customer service, especially Kim P. was the best!! They now have a new customer for life! 453174

Good it was what I orderd just disapointed that UPS did not deliver it to my address, and not to my neighbor across the street. I was expecting the item on Friday and it arrived Thursday thanks 105988

it has worked wonderful for us. We got a pickup that can now haul both the camper and the boat So the hitch will be a great asset. It was easy to install and fit live a glove.Only downfall was UPS delivered it to our neighbors house and it took both of us to carry it to my house.

To be honest this adapter scared the heck out of me as I thought it wouldn't hold up and I was going to lose the trailer. I couldn't see how this adapter was as good or better than my standard 5th wheel hitch in my truck. However I was pleasantly surprised and proven wrong. We bought it because we were taking my father's truck , (Which was equipped to tow a goose-neck trailer), on a fishing trip that extended from Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana with the return back through Montana, Idaho and my home in Nevada. We had one problem and that was when we I tried to remove the adapter so I can tow it with my truck and standard 5th wheel hitch. It took me an hour to remove it with a lot of effort. I was amazed that it was so secure it had seemed to become part of the trailer. Since then I put the adapter back on and abandoned my traditional 5th wheel hitch. I was sold on this item. You cannot go wrong if you are shopping for such an adapter. 390060

I just wanted to tell the folks at etrailer how great of an experance I had ordering from them. I ordered a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter. From the time the phone rang until Wayne had taken my order was less than 2 minutes. These people know their stuff and the price was great. The install was flawless, fit perfect. I was kept informed several times by e mail what the status of my order was. My order came a day early even during a holiday week. I am sure glad to have some room in my p/u bed while pulling my 5th wheel. Thanks Wayne and thanks etrailer 133617

Danny I notice you have a morryde pin box on your trailer. did you change the skid plate over to the morryde RPB77006 gooseneck adapter plate. to use this adapter?

This product was a great way to keep the bed of my truck clear by using my flip up goose neck ball to pull my new 5th wheel. I just got back from my first trip pulling through Washington, Oregon, and Idaho and it pulled smooth and great! I had conditions from very hilly two lane roads with 6% slopes to 75mph interstates. I do have to say that the included release lever (the one you can use from the side of the truck) doesnt make any difference because you still have to climb into the truck to remove the chains. Also my truck is a F250 which sits stock a little taller and in the lowest (12") position the trailer rides at an angle up to the truck bed (photo)so a good idea to measure closely before purchase. 85769

Installed adaptor 2 weeks ago to our 12000lb 37' toyhauler. You are going to need assistance as this thing is fairly heavy and awkward to handle. With the help of my 13yr old son and his friend they held it in place while I tightened the square headed bolts, adjusted to lowest position, torqued everything down, backed up the truck and hooked er up. Towing with this was sweet and once the trailer is disconnected all that remains in the truck bed is a 2 5/16" ball. I greased the ball before hooking up too. I also liked the ability to put a padlock on it in the closed position when not connected to trailer. Overall I am very pleased. Special thanks go out to Madison for emailing me the installation instructions since I either lost them or never recieved them, either way she emailed them to me very quickly. E Trailer is a great company with great staff!! Thanks and God bless. 316816

We ordered this and received it in 3 days. My husband and I installed it ourselves on a 1994 32 ft Coachman fifth wheel camper weighing 10,000 #s. The installation was just as the video showed. It is a really heavy and well made hitch. We are very pleased so far. It pulled just fine with our F350 crewcab duelly diesel. 149848

We've only used it for a short vacation so far, but it's worked great. It is not difficult to mount - just need a large crescent wrench basically and an allen wrench. And it comes off easily also. A good way to transition from a standard 5th-wheel to a gooseneck and have the bed free. Also, a gooseneck has the advantage of allowing more lateral twist in parking, which we need where we live, with a steep road and sharp curving driveway. The standard 5th wheel hitch was placing too much strain on our pin and the beams it's welded to, and this gooseneck solves the problem, without having to remove the 5th wheel pin. We can interchange in just a matter of about 30 minutes and have either a gooseneck or a 5th wheel depending on what we prefer. We have it on the shortest length possible, and it's still a little higher than ideal, but not bad. 256890

Very easy to install with a torque wrench and the proper socket. A 32 point works best for the "square head" bolt. I do wish they would go to a normal hex head. I have pulled the trailer from San Antonio to the West coast multiple times and the adapter has performed perfectly with no slipping issues or anything. One thing I really like is the adjustable height. Once you adjust for your particular vehicle height you are always right on the hitch contact point with the trailer pulling level. I have never had to re-level the trailer after the initial hitch connection. Product has worked beyond my expectations. One thing I would recommend is that the instructions are more clear on the amount of torque required for each set of bolts. I had to call the manufacturer to find out how much torque to apply. 356732

by: Dave L.11/21/2016

I received your product and installed it on my trailer. I was impressed with the construction and felt confident it would do the job. However, I was not impressed by the square head bolt design. For one thing, you cannot just go to Home Depot, Sears, or Harbor Freight and buy a socket to fit the square head bolt. I could find a socket, but it would have to be ordered on line and I couldn't wait. Especially if you require the bolt to be torqued. I ended up replacing the bolts with regular hex head bolts. I am assuming your square head bolts are a grade 5. If they are not, I would hope you let me know before I start towing my trailer. My suggestion is to either replace your bolts with hex head bolts, or include a socket that fits your square head bolt. 318524

Really happy with my purchase i made and a good investment. I recieved the fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter on time and next day i installed it on my fifth wheel trailer and it was very easy to do it. Instructions were plain and simple. If you dont have a buddy to help hold the adapter for you, i suggest you use a jack with a short 2x6 board to raise it in to position and begin tightneing the bolts. You do this by backing up your truck and you set the jack on the bed. I had no help so i worked with what i had... After installing it, and re inspecting everything, i took the trailer for a test drive on the dirt road and then on the paved road and it worked grea. Smooth ride, and very simple to lock and un lock the adapter from the ball. 168319

Set up was as simple as advertised. I was able to do it by myself. Only problem I had is the new 2013 Ram 3500's, the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck factory pre-installed tow package the safety chains are too short. I will have to buy some new chains to fit. I have not towed with it yet, but will post another review after I do. 89036

Rick TDoes your RV or trailer ride level with the roadway? Are the rims on your rig 18?Im concerned about the adapter making the RV ride too high in the front. Dave

-- comment by: Dave H - 10/09/2013

Remember this adapter is adjustable, with a range of 12-16 inches. To determine if it will work for your right you can take a quick measurement. On a flat surface, park the 5th Wheel trailer and use the landing gear to get it level. Back the truck under it and measure from the top of the ball to the pin box base, the flat surface where the king pin is welded to. As long as that measurement falls within that range, you can setup the adapter to work with your rig.

-- Patrick B - 10/10/2013

Little late to comment but, for new users as well as 2013 Ram owners, I have a 2013 Ram dually with the adapter that I hook to a Keystone Montana and the chains are not too short. In fact, I have enough extra chain that I have to loop them through.

When the package arrived, I set to opening it, (very well packed). Everything that I ordered was there. Got the Gooseneck adapter figured out and got the kingpin collar installed. After I moved the truck so that I could place the adapter under the fifth wheel assembly the set up was very simple. Setting up the ball and the adapter took me about 1.5 hours to complete. Very good equipment. Would recommend to anyone that wanted to have the versatility in towing options. Sorry, no photos. The reason I went this way was due to the cost of a fifth wheel hitch for the 2016 Ram 3500/ with the pucks per-set in the bed and on the frame this worked out to be a little less expensive to do. 333129

I bought this hitch for my fifth wheel travel trailer. My wife and I did the installation in about 45 minutes. The adapted hitch works great. I pull the trailer with a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab, so the short bed was a concern when making tight turns and hitting truck cab. I bought the B&W 4" offset hitch, and it works great. The trailer pulls very well, and I haven't had any turning issues. I've pulled the trailer almost 3,000 miles, and the hitch hasn't given me any trouble. I torqued all the bolts as recommended during installation. I check them periodically, and they are still tight. This is a great hitch. 249584

Ordered this prior to the arrival of my new Eagle RKS-313. The CAB-C5G was easy to install on the trailer, instructions were straight forward and easy to follow. One season under my belt with a Fifth Wheel, and it's been a Great one. Connect & disconnect are smooth and quick. The gooseneck adapter was very easy to install and works and hauls well. I prefer to haul my fifth wheel with this adapter vs. a fifth wheel plate so I have less holes in my bed and my bed is flat. I have noticed my 2016 Chevy 2500HD rides rougher when hauling. I would recommend this product to someone that wants a cleaner bed and does not want to keep moving their fifth wheel plate in and out. 276832

I found the installation to be simple, straight forward and easy. I did this all by myself, but with an extra set of hands it would have been easier on me. I mounted this on a 27FT Laradeo which is going to be pulled by my Dodge Diesel Truck that has a flat bed. The Covert A Ball is a better built Hitch than other hitch adapters that I looked at. I am glad I made the decision I made, purchasing this from e-trailer. I live way out in Idaho and I would like to compliment e-trailer on the incredible fast service. I received my hitch several days faster than expected. Thank You! 303633

Just what the Dr. ordered! Great service from etrailer. Ordered quicker ground shipping. Was able to track order easily. The instructions are clear, easy. All around I haven't had such a good experience dealing with a company in quite some time! I hope to do business with etrailer again soon. Can't wait to hook up and go with my 40' toy hauler and my new F350. 11576

This adapter was very easy to install. Was able to do it by myself in less than 30 minutes. Even thought you don't have to bolt this adapter to the hitch plate, the instruction say that a bolt up kit is available and free of charge. I would recommend this product. Also shipping from etrailer was very quick, and the price was right after shopping around. 94543

I have a 2014 5th wheel wanting to change to gooseneck, do allmost need to be also bolted down, all seem to have predrilled holes at the neck to do so. The king pin box is a Lippert 1621. What say you. Thanks

So long as the system is installed properly, the collar that slides over the pin and the adapater itself will not separate from the pin. The aditional bolt kit is not needed, but can be added if desired. The instructions included with the adapter have information on how to get the bolt kit.

I AM VERRY HAPPY WITH THIS PRODUCT. DANA help me out very much with my order. This is my second hitch, i let the first one go with the old camper. only because i hated to see the new owner weld the cheap junk he brong over for his truck, also it didnt have a cushion. if you dont get the cushion your camper will beat you to death. i also love the idea that i can snap this on in a few min and go. i did drill and bolt my last one after a while only for extra security, so to say i will do this one also. (the biggest thing is i cant beleve this is so cheap) 168154

I ordered CAB-C5G hitch adapter on Sunday and was surprised that some one answered the phone when I called. I received the CAB-C5G adapter hitch on Wednesday and was again surprised but happy to get it that fast! It took very little time to install it on my 30 foot Puma Toy Hauler and it pulls great! I had bought a weld on hitch for another camper a few years ago and left it on the camper when I sold it. I can now keep my hitch adapter when and if I trade this camper for another one. I use the same truck for all my trailers and it's a gooseneck ball. 153635

OMG so easy to install and used it before I was going to give a review and it passed the test. MONEY WELL SPENT. I am a woman of 55yrs and yes I am mechanically inclined. The only thing I had trouble with was getting the bottom bolts and nut tight enough. I used my torque stick on the upper but I didn't have the right adapter to tighten the bottom. I just carried my tools to make sure all went well. SO yes I give it a 5 star ease of installation and pulled with no problem and how easy to lock in PLACE. Love this adapter!!! 451678

bolted on really easy and fast and you can switch back to a 5th wheel setup in 10minutes , you don't have to drill into your kingpin box witch every other adapter I looked at you had to do its really safe I work the oilfeilds I towed my camper 100 miles when I first got it most of it old log roads and it did great the camper dosnt wobble at all witch surprised me I thought it would compared to a 5th wheel set up, as always etrailer shipped it very fast and it was perfict when it arrived I've never had trouble with etrailer 114116

Easy installation. Have only used it once so far to go about 400 miles rount trip up and down mountains and in some sand dunes. Didn't have any issues at all but I did notice some "jerking" when your truck is shifting gears. I have a 30ft toy hauler and it was full with toys so I just attributed it to the weight of the trailer pushing me forward while the truck was shifting and then the truck tugging back right after it shifts. It's very subtle but was enough for me to notice. Not sure if this is normal or just my setup... 214105

i think you need to take a close look at how the collar is made. if you install it the way the directions suggested the 3 jam bolts will not line up with the cutaway areas in the collar. I put it together several times before figuring out the cast in markings and directions are wrong. if you put the collar down inside the adapter you can see how it should be put together. there are probably a lot of trailers on the road with the adapter installed wrong. I read reviews that said it loosens up, now I know why. 440180

Great service and quick delivery! Arrived on my porch three days after ordering. Needed to convert a 5th wheel camper to a gooseneck hitch, since we regularly haul a horse trailer. Installation took about 1/2 an hour and directions were clear and concise. Thanks for a quality product. Will highly recommend your site! 38916

This is a great product, and I have been using this product for the last 4 years. It was easy to install, and this is a high quality product! The etrailer website was very informative, and the installation videos were very helpful. I have pulled my 5th wheel trailer on highways and dirt roads with no issues. The ride is smooth and safe. This product performs as advertised, and I like the adjustable height. The gooseneck connection frees up space in the bed of my truck. I highly recommend this product! 267919

I submitted my order on the weekend, it shipped out monday and I received it in a couple days, free shipping and it was fast! Easy to install instructions and the convert a ball adapter works great. The only negative comment is that I called on Monday morning after I ordered it to see when it would ship, the person I talked to said it would be a couple days since I ordered it online. I didn't understand why buying online would hold up shipping, but they were wrong anyway because it shipped that day. 251189

Well, I haven't installed it yet, but I can say that the customer service was excellent. I called in to ask a few questions that I was unclear on. Deborah H. answered all the questions I had, and then placed my order. She then emailed me directly to let me know when it had shipped, and even emailed me to let me know it arrived at my house. Customer service like that is hard to come by these days. I hope the performance of the unit is as good as the customer service. I should know soon! Thanks 208132

Excellent experience from Web search to product received. The adapter is exactly as explained on the site. Well built and easy to install. Following the instructions, I had it installed in 20 minutes. If you need a torque wrench, I recommend the 1/2 drive from [local retailer]. $19. Also make sure to get the large Allen wrench. Not sure of the Allen size but it's large. As for the jam nuts, get a large adjustable wrench as well. Like a 16" handle and 1 1/4" jaw. 356204

I have 2 gooseneck trailers and a 5th wheel camper. Removing my 5th wheel adapter plate from truck was back breaking. This conversion was a cheeper alternative than buying a B&W companion hitch. Has made life much easier. My 5th wheel is an older model and heavy built. I have no concerns of added stress on tounge/frame. If i had a new model i would consider a B&W companion hitch. For my application i am 100% satisfied with its function, ease of installation and value. 343966

Great product and fantastic customer service. Installed in a light rain and was very quick and easy. Certainly does everything advertised. I find connecting more difficult than the fifth wheel. I also find that there is much more truck to trailer flex when I go off road. Some contact has happened. Pulling does not seem any different. I will be going back to the B&W companion for my personal use but that in not a reflection of this product - Four stars Jerry 327695

This was a clean and simple design that is easy to install. The video and instruction sheet made the install easy. Once installed, the unit made hook up and towing easy. The frustrating part about this is the use of square head bolts. They require the use of a crowfoot wrench to adapt to a torque wrench. These are not easy to find, and they are relatively expensive. Manufacture the bolts with hex heads instead so that a standard 1" socket can be used. 128798

Works just like described, great service when ordering.Out of the box read over the direction and bolted right on first time.I pulled new trailer about 300 miles home did stop however around ever 100 miles and checked the tork of the bolts, none had loosened.Would recommend this adapter for anyone wanting to pull a fifth wheel with a goose neck ball. The folks at etrailer were GREAT,it's nice to be able to talk to a real person when ordering. Thanks Again. 307742

Do you have a question about this Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Adapters?

  • Comparison of Gooseneck and 5th Wheel Towing
  • Gooseneck trailers are primarily commercially used, while 5th Wheels are primarily used recreationally. A fifth wheel will generally have a smoother ride, which can be further improved by upgrading to an air-ride pin box which helps isolate road shock from the tow vehicle. Gooseneck hitches are typically rated up to 30K, but that capacity will be limited by the capacity of the install bracketry or by the towing capacity of the vehicle, whichever is less. Fifth wheel hitches are available...

  • Is a Gooseneck or Fifth Wheel Towing Setup Smoother Riding
  • I don't agree with a fifth wheel setup being smoother riding than a gooseneck unless you start using cushioned pin boxes/hitches. Fifth wheel setups have a lot more areas for movement so they can "chuck" much easier. There are advantages to both setups but the biggest difference between the two is that for short bed trucks there are slider hitches that can be used with fifth wheel setups to give clearance but for goosenecks there isn't that option. However, since goosenecks trailers...

  • The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter - 12" to 16" Tall - 20,000 lbs, # CAB-C5G, is a good adapter, but every adapter has it's weak points. They add unnecessary stress to your hitch and trailer frame and some manufacturers recommend adapters like this not be used with their pin boxes, but they do work well for the weekend getaway from time to time as long as the manufacturer approves its use. • Is there a Difference Between Part Numbers CAB-C5G and C5G1216
  • There is not difference actually. The part # CAB-C5G is the part number we use here at etrailer for the Convert-A-Ball Adjustable Fifth-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter. The part number that Convert-A-Ball uses is C5G1216. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

  • Overview of the Different Gooseneck to Fifth Wheel Adapters Available
  • The fifth wheel to gooseneck adapters like part # CAB-C5G attach to the trailer pin box and then basically add a gooseneck hitch tube to the bottom of the pin box plate of the trailer. This is probably the most popular adapter we have due to it's simple design and effective ness. The best adapter is the Goose Box style that replaces the pin box of the trailer and provides a gooseneck hitch. The downside is the higher price and limited applications.
