This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.First I want to say that trying to design a hitch to fit around a muffler on a small crossover is not an easy task. The construction of the hitch and receiver are heavy gauge and we’ll constructed. The fish wires worked like a charm and were integral for the installation. I did run into an interference with the muffler isolation rods welded to the frame. After placing the hitch, I had to hand tighten the nuts before tightening incrementally each bolt as the rods were pushed away during the tightening process. Dropping the muffler would not have helped here as the welded ends were the issue (see photos) Other than that, I am pleased with the result and would recommend to other Crosstrek owners.
Lower profile, and still holding strong! Initially wanted to get the EcoHitch (with the removable receiver) but couldn't find enough info to give me enough confidence to run it the way I do. Glad I went with the Curt! Great install tutorial. Pic included: can't even tell its there, like a vanishing magician.
The installation videos on etrailer guided me step by step and made the install manageable even without being on a lift. I was able to complete the installation on ramps with the help of my wife just to lift the hitch up. If you're not using a lift, taking off the muffler completely really helps and it's pretty easy to do so. I'd also like to mention that Odelia from customer service who helped me with the purchase was wonderful. She helped me cancelled the hitch that was on backorder and picked one that has the same features and price point. She was easy to work with, professional, and courteous which made me feel like I am a valued customer. I can't say I have the same experience with other companies I've dealt with. This is the 3rd hitch I've purchased from eTrailer and I've got to say, every experience was very pleasant.
Adrian - 01/15/2022So far so good. Going to mount my kuat nv 4 back rack on it today to test it out. Prepping the car was simple, was able to just lay underneath not jack stand needed. And I’m not small. The install video is quite helpful. I learned to not use duct tape to hold the spacer, the bolt won’t go through very easily. After I installed the hardware my 13 year old daughter helped me feed the fish tape through the hitch and get nuts started. I did not move the exhaust, I had a hinged ratchet that gave me plenty of ability to access all four bolts. Solid rack, simple install, love it.
Also this was installed on my 2021 Crosstrek Sport

Austin N - 01/13/2022This is the 2nd Curt Trailer hitch I've installed on a 2nd Subaru. Both were easy to install with bolts and nuts supplied. They come with great spring' like things that make feeding the bolt in from the top of the frame hole easy. I use the 2" receivers for bike racks only, no towing. For hauling 2 bikes they receiver works great, even 2 fat bikes in winter. I would recommend these receivers 100%.

I ordered the Curt Trailer Hitch on Sunday (6 pm) and I was pleasantly surprised that etrailer shipped the hitch in about an hour…on a Sunday evening. The trailer hitch took 5 days to travel across the US to California. The trailer hitch was shipped in a heavy weight corrugated box, arrived unblemished and no missing parts.
The installation was not too difficult and one should view the video before the installation. I highly recommend that the vehicle’s exhaust system be detached from the rubber supports. This will allow easy access to the vehicle’s frame where the trailer hitch is being attached. The most difficult part of the install is detaching the rubber supports from the exhaust system. Although the trailer hitch is not too heavy, it is advisable have an assistant help hold the trailer hitch in place while securing the nuts to the bolts. I was always concerned that if the trailer hitch moved too much while bolting it to the frame, the bolt(s) would recede into the vehicle’s frame.
As you can tell, this was a success story. I would recommend purchasing your vehicle trailer needs from etrailer.
all good, no complaints. I'd suggest being a little gentle using the pull wire to align the bolt but I had no problem installing by myself in under an hour.
Pierson - 12/15/2022The service was too fast and amazing than I thought! The trailer hitch for my Subaru Crosstrek I ordered looks great and no scratch when delivered to my house. All good! And I am exciting to put my new trailer hitch on my Crosstrek soon! Lastly, ordering any kind you want for your vehicle only from the Etrailer, is encouraged. Only etrailer, not Uhaul.
It was pretty easy to install--but not as easy as the electrical kit I got from etrailer for the same car. I ran into some trouble lining up the holes and tightening the bolts, but a very helpful support person at etrailer helped me figure out the problem. My daughter and I managed to install it on their Crosstrek by driving it up on a pair of those wheel ramps that raised the back of the car up about 10 inches. I think the installation took about 3 hours, including the time it took to puzzle out the problem with the holes not lining up like they should. You need a torque wrench for it, and I found you can still buy an old fashioned needle-style wrench for about 18 dollars if you go to the right place that sells cheap tools. You can get fancier ones for over a hundred dollars, but that tends to throw a wrench into the huge savings you get by purchasing your kit from etrailer!
Easy to install! Haven't used it yet, but I have stood and jumped on it and it did not move.
Pleasantly surprised by the weight of it. Sturdy, built like a tank. Installation was fairly easy. Took me about an hour to install using rhino ramps. Widened the access holes with a rotary tool and dremel tungsten carbide cutter piece. Lifting the heavy hitch to the undercarriage while screwing in the bolts was definitely the hardest part. Get an extra pair of hands. Earlier hitch/crosstrek models recommended lowering the muffler/exhaust but that’s not necessarily needed with this. However, you’ll need extremely deep sockets to reach the left hex nut closest to the driver’s seat. I couldn’t get an impact wrench to fit and ended up hand ratcheting that one. (see picture). It looks amazing. Love the hidden look.
Installation video was spot on and really helpful. However, I would make it clear that the installation hardware kit includes the 4 fish wire bolt leaders needed for the install and that they don't need to be ordered separately.
It arrived in a box. There were two holes in the box, where the bolted to car parts were scuffed as they must have been dragged around during delivery. I filed them just to remove burrs. The center receiver (visible after installed) was well packaged and avoided any damage.
I grinded the hole into the car frame to allow fishing bolts and spacers into the car with the pictured tool. It was less material removal than I feared. But be careful you make the hole large enough for both spacer and the bolt, because I had trouble fishing the bolt in one hole that was just shy of the right size. A light hammering helped it in. But I made sure the hole was big enough before putting away the air tool.
I did not need to lower the muffler, but it was much easier to wiggle the thing into place with the fished wires with my wife assisting. It only took 10 minutes of her time. From raising the car onto jackstands, installing the hitch receiver, to lowering it, I was done in 2 hours.
High quality part, reliable delivery, and pretty easy to install. Worked great on my 2019 Crosstrek and I can't wait to hit the road with my trailer!

I bought and installed the hitch(bar is out of sight receiver is seen when not in use) and the vehicle specific Wiring Harness (plug n play).
I watched a install video of this being installed on my new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. After seeing how easy it was to install I ordered the things needed and in less then 48 hours they were delivered to my front door. I did the install by myself and followed the install video instructions. I took extra steps to run the wiring by removing the muffler heat shield so I could route the wiring out the spare tire drain hole. Resealed the drain plug and mounting hardware with Rubber undercoating spary.
This. Whole Kit and the video’s are top of the line. The fish wires for the mounting hardware is a very nice add and makes it very easy to install this hitch. I managed OK by myself but it would definitely be nice to have a helper when it comes to raising the hitch into place for bolting it to the frame.
I am very impressed with the thought and attention to detail this company did with this Hitch, wiring harness and install videos. I would not hesitate to do this same purchase again and highly recommend it. There were several hitch options and price points to for me to choose from for my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek.
After looking at the Curt and Drawtite hitches, I decided to go with the Curt hitch because it appeared to be more concealed under the car and I did not need the increased tow capacity of the Drawtite hitch. I placed my order on a Tuesday afternoon and my hitch was delivered on Friday, which was awesome.
Installation was straightforward and easy as described on Etrailers website,
I took my time and even spray painted around the holes that needed to be enlarged to get the bolts in the frame. Total install was 1hr 15 min.

Good quality hitch. Quick delivery, UPS. Instructions were good and the videos were spot on. I’m glad I watched them. I was able to install it myself using a motorcycle jack and a couple 4x4s. The photos you have show the fit and finish,very nice.

I bought this Curt trailer hitch receiver for my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek because of its clean appearance and easy installation. It took me a little less than 2 hrs. to get it and the T-One wiring harness installed, working at a very deliberate pace and checking the excellent etrailer videos frequently. I didn't have to jack up the car, and didn't need an extra set of hands. Could not be happier with the hitch and the fast, free shipping I received from etrailer. Highly recommended!
Great quality. Relatively easy to install. Overall, very happy with this purchase. And dealing with etrailer has always been a pleasure!
A little tricky to install without a lift and without a helper but i was able to do alone in about an hour. There are some very helpful videos showing how to install. One of the mounting bolts arrived with damaged threads but i was able to fix okay using a file. The shackle shown in my photo is more for look. I'll be using the hitch for a bike rack mostly.
Easy installation and great instructions, everything needed was included making this an easy job.

O my god ,this hitch is a tank what a well built trailer hitch. At first I was wondering how I was gonna install it since I don't have a lift so I put it on my face and lifted it into place. "Perfect" and o man those wire leaders for feeding the the 1\2 inch and 7\16 bolts "wow man" fantastic could not have installed it without them..

High quality hitch I just installed on a Subaru Crosstrek 2017. I followed all the instructions and viewed install videos. My only suggestion.... small one.... in the 2016 install video, it shows the fishwire kept on the driver side bolts, which I did while I struggled with getting the passenger side nuts on the bolts. This proved to be very helpful in preventing the driver side bolts getting accidentally pushed into the frame. The 2017 video does not show this and the guy uses an pneumatic die grinder. I used a Dremel with a stone wheel that did the job very nicely. Rust-oleum paint on the bare metal. I purchased a 1/2" torque wrench for this install.... wow!... glad I had it, but my arms are a bit sore now. After that experience, I hope others realize that just a ratchet and socket are not going to be enough. The hitch is solid in place and I'm very happy with the purchase.
Peter i - 07/16/2018This hitch is prefect for our Subaru Crosstrek. It looks nicely centered, the workmanship of the product is excellent, and strength is awesome (more than what we need for our bike rack etc.) The video instruction and the bolt fishing tool made the job easy. I did it by myself, no lift to hold the hitch up etc. and took me about 1/2 hour, taking my time. And I am not very coordinated. I did let the exhaust pipe hold up one end of the hitch while I fished the bolt and attached the nut on one side.

Great price and easy install. I got a $22rotary tool and extra bits which barely did the job of enlarging the hole. Obviously a die grinder is the choice but I went cheap. A carbide bit with the cheap rotary is the way to go for extra insurance. I had 2 friends help with lifting the hitch which helped as well.
They expect you to widen the hole in the frame of your car to install this. Yeah that’s right, by design the supplied parts do not fit your car. It’s 2021 and that’s the best these morons could come up with. 30 minute install time is not even close. Do not buy unless you plan on having someone install it for you.

This hitch is great! I use it on a Subaru Xbox crosstrek. Was simple to install I did it myself. I mainly use it for a hitch bicycle rack but I have pulled a small [rental] trailer. I will definitely be a repeat etrailer customer for my future cars.

The videos that are available for both products were spot on and made the installation process extremely easy. Only issue I had was the welding on the frame made the back screws harder to install but other than that everything went well. Great customer service at etrailer.com.

I've put a hitch on an SUV before but it bolted into threaded holes. I had just purchased a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek and wanted a hitch to give me towing/carrying options. I liked the look of this class 3 hitch. I was a bit hesitant on the fish wire process you use to get the bolts and plates setup. I took a few minutes and watched the install video Easy-peasy! If you've got the tools they list on the install instruction you're good to go.
Everything was exactly as said fast shipping the instructional videos made it to be a very easy installation would recommend highly!
Mark - 07/24/2022Hitch was delivered as described. All parts were there and no problems. Very Good instructions to install it yourself. I would recommend having another person with you to help lift the hitch if your installing it yourself. I used my floor jack which helped get the hitch in position for the four bolts. Good video for this installation on my Subaru Crosstrex made all the difference. The biggest thing would be leveling the hitch front to back in my opinion.
Perfect for my 2013 Subaru Crosstrek!
Very pleased with this purchase. Item was shipped and received very quickly. Easy install. Some of the videos show the technicians dropping the exhaust system- this is not necessary for this hitch receiver. The only modification that needed to be done is the widening of one of the holes on the car frame. I did this with a $7 round file from the home depot. I'd also recommend having a second hand to hold the hitch receiver in place while you bolt it in- it weighs around 35lbs.
The hitch is good quality and works well. But in hindsight, it wasn't good value, since I had to pay someone to install it. It was too heavy to do myself and I didn't have the tools. It would have been more convenient and cheaper overall to just go to a local [online] to get a hitch installed.

Great quality trailer hitch receiver! The installation was easy and the tool provided for pulling the bolts through was brilliant!!! The best part was the videos to help with the installation. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Project took 30min from emptying box contents to locking up the car. If I took pictures, they would have looked exactly like the videos that were provided in my email.
Stuart - 08/22/2021Hitch fit well with good instructions and the wires supplied to hold bolts thru frame were alot of help. Took a rear end collision shortly after installing with a bike rack on. I'm sure Subaru would have been totaled without hitch and rack on it.
I have had this trailer on my Crosstrek for over a year. I have had no problems with it. However, I will say just as a piece of advice...the bolt can strip if you use a drill too often to tighten down the bike rack I've been using on it. Just use you arm and elbow grease, it will be tight enough.
Great trailer hitch. Installation was easy with no problems. Quality of welds and finish are very good. I would buy a Curt hitch again.
Hitch arrived very promptly, was high quality, and extremely easy to install. Subaru wants $425 just for parts, plus installation. This was a bargain and easy to do yourself.
