Would have been faster, but couldn't find my socket extension. I used a swivel on my socket so I didn't have to release the muffler. The hitch mounted up to the factory holes just as the "how to" video said they would. Mine were nice and clean so no extra prep was needed.
Dave H - 03/28/2015I was nervous after having read some of the other reviews about slightly offset mounting holes, especially since I have a 2012 Rav4.
My order came with my accessories neatly wrapped to the trailer hitch, so nothing was rattling around in the box.
I pulled out the hitch and separated the accessories. I crawled under the car and removed the protective covers from the chassis mounting holes. (Adhesive paper discs) I held the hitch up to the holes and they were perfectly aligned. The hitch mounted very easily. I had to disconnect the two rubber muffler supports to mount right side, abd remove a tie down bracket from the left. The hardest part of the job was fishing the wiring harness, but that was more due to all the trim pieces that had to be opened up, and a tight spot passing over the wheel well.
Getting the positive lead through the firewall wasn't too bad, once I found a spot in the rubber grommet that I could punch a hole through. All-in-all, I'm very happy with the product.
It works! It developed a rust spot on the receiver tube itself without any damage while I had it and within a month or two, but otherwise it does what it needs to do and was easy to install
I had my mechanic do the install along with the wiring harness on my 2009 Rav 4 Limited, told him about the great How To videos that etrailer has and he said it was super easy! It looks great and I can’t wait to use it. Buying my trailer this weekend!! My only concern is did I get the correct size for the small 4X8 open bed trailer??
Heather A - 11/09/2018Fits great on my 2016 Rav4, if you live in a place with winter and salty roads, fully expect to have to re-thread the frame nuts, you'll need a 12mm x 1.25 tap.
I purchased this hitch along with a Thule (TH912XT) bike rack. The install was fairly simple and quick on my 2007 RAV4, although a 2nd set of hands will greatly help you out. The only little problem I ran into was with the exhaust. It does need to be moved slightly out of the way in order to install one of the bolts. Otherwise, it was a straight forward install. Quality seems good and it appears to be well built. Only time will tell. If I had to purchase this hitch again, based on what I've seen so far, I definitely would.
Easy install thanks to a great video! I had to contact customer service to inquire about re-installing the plastic panel by the recovery hook. It wasn't mentioned in the video that it would need to be modified (trimmed) to fit and re-attach. It was noted in their database. Great customer service every step of the process. Thank you!
The hitch is exactly as described. The shipping was incredibly fast and free. Free is almost always a good price. I was afraid "free" meant slow but that was not the case. The hitch was amazingly easy to install. Thanks etrailer for a great experience.

The hitch was appreciated by my son for his Rav4. I was worried when notified it would be over 5 weeks to receive, but etrailer offered to change the order to receive it earlier. The sales people were kind and sympathetic concerning the order. It did come earlier than expected and everything was as promised.
Shows behind the RAV4 more than expectet. Install was about an hour + with home armature mechanic.

I purchased a raw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4". It seems fine so far. I'm disappointed that one of the bolts shipped with the trailer hitch was different than the rest. It would not thread and I had to opt for professional installation, ultimately costing me $90. Poor quality control, if you ask me....
Product was exactly as advertised. It showed up at my front door three days after I ordered it. The install was just like the videos showed. A piece of cake to install.
A side note - The video is a great sales tool. I am not a gear head and I had some trepidation about installing a trailer hitch by myself. But after seeing how easy it looked I decided to give it a shot.
I will definitely be telling folks how easy this project was and how nice etrailer is to deal with.

Ken C - 01/30/2015I have a small shop and install many of the items sold by etrailer, I find them to be excellent in product quality and customer communications. Fast action on returns and I am satisfied with the products I receive. For this Toyota Rav4, everything went well(hitch & wiring).
Unit arrived before expected and without damage. All parts and procedures were intact and easy to follow.
Definitely needed to prep the existing weldnut holes and a good soak of PB and a small brush did the trick.
Needed some serious manual wrenching, but the 19mm bolts had plenty of threads to secure the hitch. Alignment was very nice, and it would have been a longer job if I did not have a helper.

They said it fit perfectly into the predrilled holes of my 2012 RAV4 and only charged me $20 to pop it on for me. Very pleased with this product and the service from etrailer.com.

This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.The hitch receiver came in a sturdy oversized box containing no padding to secure the hitch, possibly explaining the two large holes in the box. There was no immediately visible damage to the hitch but when I measured the distance between the mounting flanges at the forward and rear corresponding edges there was about 1/2 inch difference, suggesting that they were bent presumably during shipping. Fortunately, I was able to mount it to my 2018 RAV4 Hybrid Limited without the need to bend anything. The installation went pretty smoothly except for some fiddling to disconnect the muffler hanger, and I broke two of the plastic fittings that hold a plastic panel in place over the driver side mounting area. I replaced the plastic fittings with some bolts and nuts so no worries. This was a 1-man install job which I accomplished by using a floor jack to raise the hitch into position. Shipping was super fast! I received it the day after I ordered it. All in all I think I will be really happy with this purchase.
Greg - 05/26/2022The hitch holes did not match up exactly with the holes on our RAV, rather than ship everything back, we cut slots in one side with an angle grinder and were able to match up the holes. The hitch holes were off by 1/2". Since it is bolted to the frame, this did not really weaken the hitch. Otherwise the hitch is working fine.

While watching a few of their YouTube videos that were very specific and informative in how to install my hitch, I felt confident in their product and customer service quality. I choose standard shipping and it was I received it that week. Very fast! Upon inspection I was surprised how mint condition it was I say that because it there wasn’t really much protection in the box protecting the hitch. I’ve worked for a major shipping company and boxes are thrown around in transport, especially when it comes off the main truck and hits the warehouse conveyor belt system. It’s not malicious, it’s just part of how it’s done. That being said, there wasn’t a mark on it. Great powder coat all around. Came with all well made hardware and directions That were easy to follow. I actually was able to install it myself in less than 30 min. Don’t pay to have someone install it. Just ask a neighbor or a family member to help. All you really need help with or just someone to hold one side up when you lift it in in mine I was even able to just balance it with one of my legs while I have the other side because it wasn’t a huge hitch. Really impressed with it and very happy and would definitely order from them again
Mario - 06/16/2021I am very happy with my trailer hitch receiver from etrailer. I installed one on my 2011 Toyota rav4 for towing a small teardrop trailer I made during the pandemic. I also purchased a wiring harness to power the trailer lights from etrailer and after some doing have it working well. The cost of doing it myself was a small fraction of having the dealership do the work. The hitch receiver is easy to install as there are pre drilled holes to receive bolts in the frame. The wiring is a bit more complicated but I did it. God bless online videos. I'm happy with the results.

Heather M - 07/20/2018We purchased a trailer hitch for our 2015 RAV4 to pull a medium trailer with kayaks on it. It worked beyond our expectations! It was a quick bolt on for my husband and teenage son and actually was strong enough to pull a full size 4 wheeler for a short way (I think the hitch was stronger than the car!). Delivery was timely (especially since we were in the midst of the pandemic). We have actually just purchased racks for another car and are buying from etrailer because we were so pleased with their integrity last year.
My experience with etrailer was very good. The hitch came well packaged and undamaged. The etrailer videos were very helpful in understanding the installation. I did the install myself which took about an hour. The most difficult part was getting the hitch receiver positioned close to the frame of the car. I first thought I could place the hitch on jack stands but there was not enough clearance to do this so I resorted to using wood blocks. I am certain it would have been a very easy job for two people. So, I recommend calling a neighbor or friend to assist in the install and you will cut your install time down to about 10 minutes.

Works great on my Rav4. I mainly use it to pull a wood splitter around my property and taking to other locations.
The hitch arrived quickly, in just a matter of a couple of days. The written and video instructions were clear and easy to follow. I was able to install the hitch in less than 30 minutes by myself. I used my motorcycle lift to hold it level at the correct height and bolted it in place without ANY problems. The hitch was purchased to mount my bike rack; as you can see, everything worked out without "a hitch"!

I installed the Curt 13149 trailer hitch on my 2017 RAV4. Installation was easy after I watched the video couple of times. The instruction was also helpful. I installed this without another person helping; I used Jack Stands to hold one side up and only took me 1 hour from start to finish.
The hitch came as promised, on time and in great shape. I installed it myself, with the help of some ramps to lift up the car and a floor jack to lift the hitch into position. Piece of cake.
Great design and engineering, fit like a glove.
I'll tackle the wiring soon, not needed for a bike rack.
Installation was a breeze... once I got a frozen nut taken care of on my Rav4... solid construction and blends in nicely with the exterior. Definitely worth it seeing as how it was 70% less than what Toyota was going to charge. Thank you e-trailer!

It was a little tight on one side so I had to get a pry bar and a hand from the neighbor to get it flexed to line up the holes but not a huge deal. Hitch has held up very well being on the vehicle for a year. I keep a bike rack in it continually. No complaints.

Mike W - 05/09/2022Ultimately, this receiver fit our 2017 RAV4 XLE AWH Hybrid perfectly, and was easy to install Instructional video was perfect. However, etrailer.com's packaging leaves much to be desired. The first receiver showed up with one side bent at roughly a 15o angle and the paint cracked on the outside of the bend. God knows how much force it took to do this, but the box had a gaping hole and was crushed where the damage occured. Etrailer.com was very good, in that they sent a new receiver even before I got the UPS shipping label to return the damaged one. The second was perfectly straight, but the flanges had cut through the corner edges of the box. A little styrofoam at the ends of the box would go a long ways to protect the receiver. I've read at least one other review where this receiver was bent on delivery. A little more expense on the packaging would cut down on RMA wastage.
I bought and installed the etrailer hitch a year ago. It was the first step in my stealth boat buying plan. The install went very easily. I did have to use a jack to spread the arms about 1/4 inch to get the holes to line up, but after that the install went very smoothly. I've had no problems with the hitch, which i use several times a month to take the boat out.
Did not fit to begin with. The brackets that attach to bottom of vehicle were bent inward. After several hits to both sides with hammer and wood, it fit and the bolt holes lined up. Just a bit more work than it needed to be. But it’s installed and works.
If I knew it was this easy to put a Curt Hitch on I would have done it years ago. 4 bolts and it is installed, just had to cut 1 1/2 X 5 inches of plastic and it fit right in.
The hitch receiver is great so far! I got it for the Thule Apex 4 bike rack but have not yet used it for that reason. The bike rack was tested by putting it on. It fits and has enough clearance from the spare tire on the back.
The installation on our 2011 Toyota Rav4 went pretty smoothly. It would have been easier if I lowered the tailpipe, but I was able to install without doing so. Installing it with an extra set of hands would have made it much easier, but I was able to install it by myself. I used bricks to elevate the hitch enough to install the bolts. Torquing the bolt to the correct ft-lb was very easy for the bolts on the driver's side of the vehicle, but a little more difficult on the passenger's side.
Overall a good product, and I am looking forward to testing it with the bike rack fully loaded very soon.
Relatively easy to install (although you will need to borrow/buy a torque wrench that can apply 86 foot lbs). Will also need to be able to work underneath your vehicle -- unless you're lucky enough to have access to a lift. My hitch was specifically for my Rav4. Matched perfectly. Instructions pretty straightforward. Need to follow their advice to clean out the bolt holes with a wire brush and some WD40. Makes for a super easy installation.
The hitch was priced very well, lower than the competitors.
It was exactly as advertised and went on just like the installation video, no surprises!
Free shipping certainly helped me make up my mind.
Altogether a great transaction from a great company, my total savings including hitch, installation, sales tax, and time, was about 50%!

Got this to hook up on my 2015 Toyota Rav4 so I could then hook up a hitch bike rack. Works great! I’ve had it for a year now - have traveled from Maryland to Michigan and back with the bikes on the hitch, no problems.
