Swagman Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Adam: Hi, everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Swagman Current bike rack on our 2016 Toyota Highlander. This is going to be designed for e-bikes, and can hold up to two at once with three different tie-down points per bike. So, there is one frame contact right here on the main beam right here. These frame hooks connect down and basically squeeze your bike to that bike rack just to ensure that it won't really move around.

Thule Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Adam: Hi everyone, Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at the Thule Camber on our 2016 Toyota Highlander. So this is going to be a hanging style bike rack that can hold up to four bikes with three tie down points per bike. You're going to have two up top here, and one anti-sway cradle on the bottom. And what that's going to do, it's going to limit that bike-to-bike contact that you get when you're going down the road.So let me just go ahead and show you how easy it is to get your bike off this rack. It has a zip tie style strap, so you got to press in this little pressure pin, and as you can tell, there is a rubberized coating underneath here, so that's going to protect the top of your frame of your bike. And also, there is a rubber insert in the actual part of the strap itself, and with these little ridges, and what that's going to do, it's going to make room for your bike cables, so they're not smashing up against your frame when you're headed down the road.

Instead, it holds it by 2 points, 1 up towards the front here which is the lockable skewer around the forks of your bike. As I said before, it is lockable. Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show of some of the features. The first thing is how the frame is kind of bent inward towards the end here. That's going to accommodate different size bikes, such as kids' bikes. How the bike is attached to the rack, we're going to have 3 points of contact with the bike's frame.

Rola TX-104 Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Today on our 2016 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be testing the Rola TX1044 bike rack, part #59401. We already have a bike installed on the rack, let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. The first feature I'd like to show is the integrated cable lock in the center of the mast. You pull this out, wrap it around your bikes, and attach it to this end here for additional security to prevent theft and tampering. The arms themselves are adjustable, so it gives you a little bit of wiggle room when you're installing your bikes to situate them appropriately. Now how it actually attaches to the bike rack, we're going to have 3 points of contact. We're going to have 2 straps up at the top here and 1 off to the side here, and that's going to serve as an anti-sway strap to keep the bike from moving too far back-and-forth, possibly hitting the bikes in front of it. Let's go and take the bike off and set it aside. With the bike rack in this position, I'm going to go ahead and give you a couple of quick measurements.

Kuat Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Today, on our 2016 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be test fitting the Kuat NV 2.0 2-Bike Rack, part number NV22G. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look, and show off some of the features. The first feature is the fact that it can tilt away from the vehicle with the bikes still attached. To do that, we come to this latch here. Holding on to the bike rack, we'll pull that latch out, let it tilt down, and now we have full access to our rear hatch, to get what ever it is we need, with plenty of room on both sides to do so. I'm even able to get in between the bike and the vehicle to do this.

Yakima HoldUp Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Today on our 2016 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack, part number Y02443. We already have a bike installed on the rack, let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. The first one I'd like to show off is the fact that this can tilt away from the vehicle with the bike still attached. To do that, holding onto the bike rack, you go to this red knob at the base of the mast here, pull out like so, let it tilt down, never gripping it by the bike, and now we have access to our rear hatch to get whatever we need. Now, it just barely clears our handlebars here, so if you have longer handlebars, this may not work, but in this case, we have plenty of room to get whatever we need on both sides. To put it back in its original position, all you do is grip it by the bike rack again, lift up, you'll hear that click and now it's locked back in its original position. Another nice feature is that this has no frame contact whatsoever to hold the bike in place.

Thule Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2016 Toyota Highlander

Today on our 2016 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be test fitting the Thule T2 Pro 2 Bike Rack, part number TH9034. Let's go ahead and look at some of the features of this bike rack. The first and probably most important thing about this is that fact that you can tilt it away from the vehicle, with the bike still attached, so you can get to your rear hatch, and get what you need. To do that, you come to this handle at the end here, which is kind of nice, because a lot of other bike racks, you have to reach up and underneath to the handle to pull it out, to actually lower it down. Holding onto the bike rack, we'll pull out the handle, and let it tilt down. Now we have full access to our hatch, to get what we need. Because this actually sticks out a decent distance away from the vehicle, you have plenty of space on both sides to actually get up underneath, and get in there. To put it back into the position we just had, all you have to do is grab it by the handle, lift up. You'll hear that click.
