Best 2012 Toyota RAV4 Cargo Carriers

My wife and I spend the winters in southern GA and needed a cargo carrier as we make our move between TN and GA. Everything we pack will fit into the car with ease, but we're a tad cramped. When I say we, I mean our dog and two cats. :) Having the cargo carrier will allow us to pack our clothes, etc. outside the car while everyone has more room inside the car. On this particular hitch (Curt Class III), I can haul 300lbs back there. The three containers you see in the pics will probably be full, but not weigh anywhere near 300lbs total. This will definitely make our travel more comfortable. It also alleviated the need for a larger car where the bigger volume of cargo space would only get used a couple of times per year. Smaller car for a daily drive equals less gas. The cargo carrier is a bit on the cumbersome side so my wife helps me get it connected. It's heavy duty and expect it to last many years.

I haven't actually used the hitch carrier yet, but I can say that the ordering and shipping process went very smoothly and was easy. Also the carrier is very easy to assemble and took maybe 15 minutes tops.

Ordering and delivery was straight forward and problem free. Thule cargo box was surprisingly easy to install and has little if any real impact to my driving my rav4 nor was there any significant change in noise.

Product was easy to order. Shipping was right on schedule. Very easy to install. Looks great on my Toyota Rav4. Awesome job again etrailer!!! I be back ordering again very soon!!!!!

Very durable basket, and fairly easy to install. It's definitely transformed the look and practicality of our little SUV.

Love this unit. Used it to carry a lot of stuff for vacation. We downsized from a minivan to a RAV 4 so didn't have the cargo space we were used to. This solved that problem. While I really like the unit, it does sit low to the ground despite having an offset tongue. Backing down a minor grade may result in scraping. I wish the offset was just a little higher off the ground given the length of the tongue.

This cargo carrier was very easy to put together and it is sturdy. We use this every vacation and also when we are driving our kids back to college. It really gives you that extra capacity you need. I also have a cargo bag (secured to the roof rack) that I use on occasion. The thing I don't like about the bag and putting things on the roof in general is, that it creates a lot more wind resistance (gas mileage decreases), you can't put nearly as much weight on the roof, and access to whatever you have in the bag is a bit more difficult than with the cargo carrier. The cargo carrier does fold up so that when it is empty and you have to park, it is not jutting out from your parking space.

I'm missing a single set of locknet/flat washer/carriage bolt M10 but other than that, it was an easy assembly and quite sturdy!

Very happy with this luggage carrier. We’ve put many miles on it already, have even bottomed out with it on our Rav4 and still is holding up like new. No complaints whats so ever.

Great roof box for my 2019 Rav4 Hybrid. I've taken a couple of trips with it so far and have had no issues!

We love it. I did call Etrailer if it will fit 2021 RAV4 Hybrid, he said not sure and asked me to give it a try. The cargo Is actually fitted to my car and its rack. It is worth to have it.

The Yakima OffGrid medium rack arrived yesterday at about 10:30 a.m. It was fully unpacked/assembled/installed by about 11:45. etrailer did a fine job of communicating/pricing/delivering and supporting this good product. I've been using Yakima products (and others) for biking, paddling, fishing etc. for about 45 years. This rack is a serious solution to a variety of uses of a roof rack. I will be able to use it on various vehicles and for a number of applications (sports, chores,travel etc.) It has more flexibility than most racks and I can't imagine a more durable, quality design. My particular needs, being in my "Dotage", are met by the ability to remove the cross bars and fairing for an open platform, or keep them on and custom fit to a spare tire, or bike rack, kayak rack etc. The attaching mechanisms drew my attention. I put this on the car with solo and with caution using a protective mat. It is very manageable and easy to fit. These mechanisms for tightening down on the crossbars bring the added value (and cost) to folks like me that don't want to spend a lot of time and effort installing a rooftop rack. I wanted secure, solid attachment with simplicity. The OffGrid delivers! No pain killers needed after the install! This "Medium" OffGrid is more than adequate for my initial uses. The internal and external dimensions are pretty much ideal for this 2017 Sienna. A full size spare tire will fit just right. A nice fit for a canoe as well. I admit to scouring the internet and considering dozens of products from baskets to platforms and this OffGrid showed a lot of promise. Its versatility and ruggedness competes with the best designs at about half the price of many. My thoughts included the extension bracket, but the medium OffGrid really does meet most of my expectations and needs for various applications. Now, to the matter of noise. There is wind noise. However, for me, it simply blends into the symphony of white noise that comes with highway travel (and the ringing in my ears) :)......Of all the racks, bikes, canoes,kayaks ladders, lumber, etc., etc. that I have carried on car tops, the wind sounds of this carrier are negligible. The fairing is a nice, well thought out feature that works well. So, my five star rating is for both the product and the vendor. Once again "eTrailer" has proven themselves to be one of the best sources of such products nationwide. Their product information efforts are an industry leader and they deserve credit for providing extremely helpful product reviews and explanations. That's what got me to choose them on this purchase. Those of us well into our "Dotage" appreciate learning all we can!

We were very happy with our Thule roof rack. The low profile design works well and does not have too much wind noise compared to others I’ve had. It’s held up very well also through the seasons.

Love my new Thule canyon xt roof cargo basket!! Fits on my 2022 Toyota Prius Nightshade, it was easy to assemble!! Shipping was awesome came in quicker then I expected!!

I have had this for 1 year. I use it when I’m moving for travel contracts every 13 weeks and this thing packs a TON. I have a 2013 Chevy Equinox and it’s a bit long for it — it smooshes the antenna, but does t affect radio signal. I’ve also had it on a 2006 Toyota RAV4 and it got perfect — it was the vehicle I originally bought it for!

This was a great addition to my wife’s 2019 RAV4, lunar rock color. It really fits vehicle nice. Have had many good compliments on it and it is extremely functional.

Well done Yakima and etrailer. Great product and great service. The product is well made (in Taiwan....not China) and the parts and instruction video made it relatively" easy to install. Two people helps to install it more readily. The wind diffuser in the front greatly reduces wind noise. All in all very happy and glad I bought through etrailer. Service was excellent and delivery prompt.

These are very challenging to work with when it comes to mounting them to vehicle roof rails and adjusting length of bar to it's equal on both sides. Once they're finally installed they look steong and astethetically appealing. Haven't tested them out with Curt roof rack yet

Great for the price! Were ready for adventure time!

I ordered the Rhino cross bars and cargo basket together for my 2021 RAv4 Hybrid simply because I wanted a sure combo that would work together, and they did and fit the car perfectly. I am a semi-mechanical person and the whole job took me about 2 hr (bars + cage). Instructions are like IKEA, takes a little intuition for some things. Cage assembly and install itself took about 45 min. Rubber mallet is handy to drive two halves of rack together without scratching metal. Arrived on time since in stock. Seems real sturdy.

I’ve got to say I really like this basket, quality is great and the size is perfect for what I need. Fits well on my 2021 RAV4 hybrid with factory roof rack. Unlike others, I found the assembly from box to mounted on the roof only took about 25 mins and was very simple. Only complaint is with etrailer itself as when I ordered the rack it was in stock and was scheduled to ship in 3 days, however, it took almost two full weeks to even ship. When I called customer service I was told it was in stock but they were having difficulty locating part of my order and I didn’t receive my order for two and a half weeks. Not a huge deal but also not what I was expecting.

Fairly easy assembly. It would be nice, since the hitch pin is not included, if the manufacturer would list the size pin needed.

Received everything in a timely manner - 2 days. My order included the cargo carrier, a cargo bag, and a Curt anti-rattle kit. Just a note for newbies like me. The shank is the part of the accessory that is inserted into the receiver (the part that is attached to the vehicle). The Curt anti-rattle kit does not fit properly with this cargo carrier. The instructions for the anti-rattle kit indicates that it will fit in the shank of all Curt products... I have a Curt receiver... I rigged the anti-rattle kit to work with this cargo carrier but it's a bit of a pain. The cargo carrier box appeared to have been opened previously. The box was torn open already. I found the instructions and determined that all the parts were there so no harm no foul. Easy-to-follow assembly instructions but having a friend to help would have sped things up a lot. Easily attaches to the receiver and bingo. All done. Light weight. I can carry it and mount it to the vehicle by myself with ease. I will be buying some reflective tape to put along the back of it. I want it to be more visible to anyone following - especially in the dark.

Our SportRack cargo box has worked as hoped / advertised since we bought it over a year ago. What initially attracted me to this particular product was the size and design - it holds A LOT, and the way it opens from the back has helped protect our stuff from getting wet and damaged.

The sportrack vista xl is great! This was our first attempt at a roof mounted cargo box and it has preformed exceprionally well! I purchased this as a gift for my wife, to go on her Subaru Crosstrek. We live in western NC, and have used this to go to the outer banks of NC, eastern Tennessee, and even to bring home supplies from Sam's Club! It's super easy and quick to install, even for one person, and we've been fortunate enough to not have a single leak yet; even though we've been through heavy downpours! And there's plenty of room! If you're in the market for a rooftop cargo box this is the way to go.

I've taken one 1500 mile trip so far with the Yakima RocketBox Pro 14 mounted on my RAV4. I found the box to be quiet and not to have much impact on gas mileage. I lost maybe 1 mpg with it mounted to my flush mounted Whisperbars. I drove through some very heavy rain and had a minimal amount of water inside under a thin rubber mat I had placed on the bottom of the box; none on my luggage got wet. This box works great to give me more carrying capacity when traveling with my two crated Dobermans.

Was surprised by the quality of free shipment. The cargo box was strapped to a pallet with shrink wrap.

Step 1 of assembly, the holes do not line up between the basket halves and the connecting bars. This is integral to the structure’s assembly, making it impossible to do. That and the hardware was loose all over the package but luckily seemed to all be there by chance. Seems there was no QA before shipping…makes me quite nervous about installing this on my vehicle.

Super disappointed in this etrailer purchase. The product came in a large box that was fully intact and not damaged. The actual cargo basket was meticulously wrapped and appeared to be brand new as expected. The other components however, like the arm, were in boxes that were smashed, old, worn, and had multiple layers of old tape. The arm itself was scratched and banged up, even rusty in spots. Clearly it was used or had been a returned item. If I wanted a dented, gouged,and rusty Cargo Carrier I would have purchased one used, for half the price. This is not the quality I expect from etrailer.. I have purchased many racks and other items from this company and usually the quality is outstanding. This time they dropped the ball. I have since read other reviews and it is apparent that this is not an isolated incident. I'd have sent it back if it wasn't so damn heavy and awkward to lug around.
