  • 7-Way and Brake Controller Recommendation for 2018 Subaru Outback
  • You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118467. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling...

  • Could Trailer Wiring Short Damage Factory Module of Jeep Cherokee
  • Trailer wiring shorts can cause fuses and relays to damage themselves to the point of needing replacement. Some Mopar vehicles have expensive modules that make this an even bigger deal. The older Ram trucks have TIPM that has an internal breaker that only a Ram dealer can reset. And after a few times a new one has to be bough for over $1,000. Based on that I'm not too shocked that your Jeep dealer told you what they did. I'd go over your trailer wiring looking for any shorts you can...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring and Brake Controller for 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • We have everything you need to install a 7-Way/4-Way connector and a trailer brake controller on your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon as long as it is not the Sport model. The Hopkins Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975 that you referenced is designed to plug into an existing tow package port on certain Chevy, Ford, GMC, and Nissan trucks. This will not work on your Outback Wagon. If you do not have any connector installed yet on the vehicle, you will need to start with a 4-Way harness. I recommend...

We do have wiring harness options with a 4-way flat # C56365 or a 7-way # C56366 that are confirmed to fit your vehicle. You will also then need a ball mount. I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit # 989900. This ball mount kit will come with two different size rise and drop ball mounts and also comes with the 1-7/8 inch...

  • Where to Mount Converter Box When Installing Trailer Wiring for 2006 Saturn Vue
  • With the install of the Curt trailer wiring harness part # C56018 that you referenced Curt recommends finding a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight to adhere the box to in step 6. When we had the chance to install the similar Tekonsha kit part # 118418 on a 2006 Saturn Vue like yours we mounted the box in the driver side rear taillight area. If you check out the 1:00 mark of the video you'll see our installer mention this although it's not shown.

  • 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness for 2017 Dodge Journey with LED and Incandescent Tail Lights
  • Trailer wiring harnesses are not usually included with a hitch since not all trailers have lights. The typical small utility trailer that one might use to get a load of mulch will often not have lights (or trailer brakes, for that matter). But we can certainly help you with a 4-pole wiring harness for basic trailer lighting functions if you will be towing a trailer with lights. On your 2017 Dodge Journey the choice of wiring harness depends on the type of tail lights the car has....

  • Should Trailer Wiring Be Stored Inside Vehicle When Not in Use
  • Unless you are towing all the time it is a good idea to store your 4-pole wiring harness inside the car to protect it from the weather and potential damage. Yes, many folks prefer an external mount and hitches often come with a mounting bracket to affix the connector. While this is indeed handy, if you are towing only occasionally it is a perfectly good idea to leave the wiring inside the car until needed, and to then pull it out the rear hatch. The rubber molding on the hatch will protect...

  • How to Determine If a 2015 Mazda CX-5 Has LED Tailights
  • The best way to tell whether or not your 2015 Mazda CX-5 came with LED tailights would be to contact the manufacturer with your VIN. They would be able to tell you without a doubt whether or not your vehicle has LED taillights. • Troubleshooting Wiring Harness 118679 Installation in 2018 Honda Pilot
  • I am sorry your installation of wiring harness # 118679 in your 2018 Honda Pilot was a challenge, and also that it is not functioning. The first thing to check before you un-install the harness is that the ground ring terminal is tightly affixed to a clean metal surface. A good ground is essential for any wiring harness to function. • Troubleshooting Trailer Taillights that Stop Working After A Few Minutes
  • What you are describing sounds like you are over drawing the wiring harness and instead of shorting out it's temporarily turning off. Typically this doesn't happen and instead the harness shorts itself out all together. You are most likely running too many lights on the trailer and if you reduced some of the draw you'd be good. Converting some of the lights to LED will help out quite a bit as well. I attached a page that has all of the LED trailer taillights we offer as well.

  • Can Both 7- and 4-Way Connectors on # HM40975 be Used at the Same Time
  • 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975 and similar vehicle side trailer connectors are designed so that you can only use one of the connectors at a time. The reason for this is that both connectors share the same circuits for lights and so it would be easy to overload those circuits in some cases. If you are certain that won't happen you would have to take the door off of one side so the 2 doors are not blocking each other.

This custom harness will plug right into the built-in harness located behind the rear bumper. You will simply plug the harness in-line with the existing 7-Way. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector that will connect with and power your utility trailer's basic signal lights. Otherwise,...

  • Even though Hopkins does not publish the ratings of the converter for wiring harness # HM11143485 that fits your 2006 Toyota Sienna it is comparable to the Curt and Tekonsha wiring harnesses in that regard. Your trailer is drawing a lot of power. Normally that would mean it has a lot of lights on it. But being a pop-up I wouldn't think that would be the case in this application. It leads me to believe that something else might be going on such as a short or corroded trailer connector....
