Jake: Hey guys, Jake here with eTrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Fireside outdoor fireproof mat. Now this mat is designed to sit underneath your fire pit or your grill to protect the surface that your fire pit or your grill might be sitting on to keep it from either being damaged or to catch fire. As you can see here, we have it sitting on our pool deck so that we can have a fire up on our pool deck in a safe manner, without having to worry about any loose embers landing on our deck, catching the deck on fire. Now, what I like about this fireproof mat is that it's going to give you peace of mind, wherever you might be wanting to start a fire in a fire pit. Here we are using our pop-up pit also by Fireside.

What I like about this mat is that whether you're tailgating or you're camping or you're just hanging out at your house and you have a grill that might be on your back deck.If you have a wooden deck and you have a charcoal grill, there's always that slight chance that an ember could pop out or come out of the bottom of the grill and land on your deck and then you're going to have a problem. With this mat sitting underneath, it's not only going to keep you safe, but it's also going to protect your deck from any harm that might be caused by those loose embers. Now the mat is going to feature a fiberglass base, which is going to give it that fireproof construction with a silicone coating on top of it. It's also going to have a reflective strip here on the outside, which is something I would not have thought of with this mat but it's a great idea because it's going to show you where the edge of the mat is at night so that when people, your friends and family are walking around the camp site or if you're tailgating at night, they're going to be able to see where the edge of the mat is so that they don't trip over the edge, potentially causing more damage by spilling over your fire pit.Now, another cool feature that Fireside included with this mat is going to be eight of these grommets. They're going to be a metal grommet.

This is going to come in handy if you're using this mat in the grass, just because you may not want to catch your grass on fire or damage your campsite. So what you would do, the stakes do not come included, but you could stack this mat down so that it has less likely the ability to blow away or to have somebody trip on it because you're able to tie it down flat and flush with the ground. Now, the mat itself is going to be six feet by five feet in dimensions. So that's going to give you more than enough coverage to be able to use it with a grill or with an outdoor fire pit. Now you might be saying to yourself, well, Jake, I've been building fires for years and I've never had anything go wrong.Well, what I want to point out and emphasize is that these little embers here, we did not place these here.

These got here on their own from falling either out of the fire pit with a log leaning over, or just with the wind. With these little bitty embers, they can start a fire themselves. So this is the kind of stuff we want to avoid, to avoid the dangers and the hazards that could come with these loose embers landing on top of our deck. Now I've read up on a couple of reviews on this mat itself and it seems like it's a pretty popular topic of campsite etiquette. So nobody likes to show up to camp site where there was a mess left from the other people that we're there before us.

This mat is going to help you to keep your campsite nice and neat so that if you have a fire pit that you normally use, like our portable one, we have here, we're able to dump the Ash out in a dump location.And then we are able to pick up our mat, all the ash is left behind on our mat. We carry that over to the dump station, clean it off and it's as if we we're never there. Now fireside recommends that the minimum height between the bottom of your fire pit and the top of the mat is at least four inches and that's just to protect the mat itself from getting too hot. Yes, it can support an ash falling on it for a short period of time until the ash goes out but I know you don't want to have that constant heat from your grill on top of the mat. So with that being said, just keep in mind that the mat is ember resistant, it's not going to be fireproof. So you cannot build a fire directly on top of the mat, expecting it to still be there when you're using it.You want to be sure to keep your items protected from those loose embers that might be falling out of the grill, as you can see our log just adjusted and if you we're to have your logs in the traditional TP form and they fall over and maybe out of your grill or your fire pit, this is going to protect it until you can get it off or wash it off to cool that ember down. Now we've all had those times when we've been in a campsite and a piece of a log or a large Ember has fallen out of the grill or out of our fire pit and we don't know how to get it back into the pit or to put it out without burning ourselves. Fireside has a set of heat resistant gloves, which are these here. They're rated for up to 932 degrees Fahrenheit, which is mind blowing hot.So I'm going to show you how they perform. We can take it, grab a log that is on fire. We can set it on our mat, see that there's no damage to our mat and then place it back into our grill. Now I will say these are not a long time use glove. You cannot sit there and hold the log while it's on fire. I can tell you, for that short amount of time that I was holding it, you can feel a little bit of heat, but it's enough time to be able to grab an ember and throw it back into the fire.
