Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out and showing you how to install the etrailer tow bar adaptor ends and these are going to allow you to pair your etrailer tow bar to your Roadmaster base plate. So it's pretty cool that they make these adaptor ends which will allow you to pair up that tow bar to the different base plate and these can be used in a few different scenarios, at least that I can think of. Maybe one being you really like how the Roadmaster base plate looks on your vehicle, works on your vehicle and everything else and you really like the trailer tow bar. Or maybe you already had the etrailer tow bar, end up getting a new vehicle, put the Roadmaster base plate on, or you know, maybe it's just a supply thing. You're really trying to get your project going, get everything put together that you can go out and do some flat towing.
But let's say if you had your Roadmaster base plate, maybe there's no Roadmaster tow bars in stock or available that you can grab so you can get what you need quick and be able to pair the two up by putting this adapter end on here, so really straightforward. It's essentially just gonna bolt right up and we'll show you how to do that a little bit later on, but, so it's gonna allow you to plug into that removable arm there. These adaptor ends, they are gonna work with the etrailer SD tow bars like we have here today, as well as the heavy duty XD tow bars and regardless of what tow bar you have, they are gonna come with the proper bolts and bushings and things of that nature to pair 'em up. Other than that though, I mean, not really a whole lot to it. They're well made, really thick steel, and it'll provide you with that solution that you're looking for to get everything paired together.
As far as getting 'em on goes, really not bad. Essentially just one bolt on each end here and a couple of bushings, a couple of washers, and that's really about it, so really shouldn't give you too many issues, but if you'd like to see how that's done, feel free to follow along. We'll go ahead and put one on together now. So to begin your install, your first gonna wanna lay our tow bar out and we're gonna be working here at the end of the arms. So this is an etrailer.com SD tow bar and these are also gonna fit etrailer.com XD tow bars.
But with the XDs, the hardware's gonna be a little bit different. This is gonna come with all the hardware you need, regardless if you have the SD or XD, so just keep that in mind. These are also gonna work with a lot of the Demco tow bars as well as long as they got this style end, so yeah, it'll all be essentially the same concept, but what you're gonna do is this end needs to get bolted up to there so we're gonna take the bolt like this and a flat washer. All right, put that on. And then you can take one of these metal rings.
Put that on. And you're going to start to put your bolt through. Once it's through, you take one of the thicker plastic or nylon-type washers and we'll try to just get everything kind of squared away here. We'll line it up and then drop our bolt into the tow bar. All right, so it'll be like that. And then what you're gonna do, take the another washer, another nylon-type washer. Try not to drop it here, but that'll get snuck in there as well. And then once you get that through, you can actually push that bolt all the way through. So with it like that, on this side you'll take another ring there, put that in. Flat washer. We're gonna take a hex nut. I'm just gonna barely get this started here so I can grab something. What we need to do on the threads here that's gonna hold these ends on, you wanna use some blue Loctite, put on the threads. This doesn't come with it. If you needs some though, you can get it here, right here at etrailer or any really auto parts store will have it so put that on, take the nut, get it started again and then we can grab some tools and come back and tighten it down. So to tighten this up, we'll have a 9/16 size socket and wrench. We'll run this down. (drill buzzing) And what we're looking to do is we want this to be tight, but have just a little bit of resistance when you turn it here, just a little. So this is still kind of loose and I'll keep tightening it, tightening it up a little bit until we get to where we wanna be. So still moves freely, little bit of resistance in there, and that's exactly what we're looking for. So once you have one side done, you're simply just gonna repeat the same process on the other arm of the tow bar to get this adapter installed as well. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the etrailer.com tow bar adaptor ends, which will allow you to pair your etrailer tow bar to your Roadmaster base plate.
