  • Are Dexter 8k Brake Assemblies and Al Ko Assemblies Interchangeable
The Al Ko brake setups use a slightly different bolt pattern so they do not fit in place of the Dexter setups like the # 23-435 that you referenced. For the matching other side you'd want the # 23-434.

  • Will The Brake Assemblies For A 7 Bolt Flange Work With The 4 Bolt Flange?
For a 9,000 lb axle with 4 bolts, you will want the Dexter Electric Brake Assembly, RH 12-1/4" x 3-3/8", # 23-435 and the matching left side assembly # 23-434. These are the only assemblies for the 4 bolt mounting plate and the 7 bolt plates are not compatible. • Can Larger Electric Brake Assemblies be Used on 7K Trailer Axle
None of the drums offered that are compatible with the wheel bearings used by a 7K axle would work with a 12-1/2 x 3.375 brake assembly, which is usually used on a 8 or 9K axle. I'm assuming your trailer is a tandem axle. Do both axles have brakes? If not, you could add brakes to the second axle which would dramatically increase your braking performance. You would indeed experience more reliable braking action if you went with disc brakes. In order to make a recommendation, I'd need to...

  • Video That Shows Trailer Drum Brake Shoes Getting Replaced
You would not need cut anything to replace the shoes on the drum brakes of your trailer. If you check out the video I attached you can see our installer replacing shoes on a brake assembly and get walked through the process. If you are asking about whether or not the drums need to be turned before installing new assemblies...that will depend on the condition of the hub. If the surface looks smooth and not grooved out at all then no. If so, then you would need to have them turned.
