  • How Does Parking Brake Work on Dexter 12x2 Inch 6K Electric Brake Assemblies
Dexter trailer brake assemblies # 23-113 and # 23-112 have a bracket, see picture, that you would attach a cable to. At the other end of the cable is a lever. When you pull the lever it pulls the cable that pulls the bracket and pushes the shoes out to make contact with the drum. These brakes are not self-adjusting.

  • Availability of Electric Trailer Drum Brake Assemblies that have Parking Brakes
The only Dexter brake assemblies we offer with parking brakes are for 6k axles. For that you would need part # 23-112 and # 23-113. If your trailer has 12 inch drums on it already and the mounting flanges for brakes on the spindle have a 5 bolt pattern then these assemblies would fit.

The left and right trailer brake assemblies part # 23-112-113 would do great with water like you mentioned. These are installed on boat trailer all the time which get regularly submerged without any issue so I would not anticipate anything negative with your setup.

Since the trailer has 12 by 2 inch hubs the Dexter Axle brake assemblies, part # 23-112-113, will fit just fine. They're rated up to 6,000 pounds as a maximum but a 5,200 pound axle uses the same size brakes, generally. I've linked a video on the brakes as well you might want to check out.

  • How Much Power Does a 10 Inch Trailer Brake Assembly Draw
On a 10 inch brake assembly such as # 23-468 the magnet draws 3.2 to 4 amps at 12 to 13 volts. There are actually trailer brakes that have a parking brake feature such as # 23-113 that you can use with kit # T2385200. With this set up you would be able to manually set the brakes without worrying about battery drain. The only issue is in electric drum brakes assemblies that have a parking brake feature only come in 12 inch assemblies # 23-113 and # 23-112.

Most of our 12 x 2 electric drum brake assemblies like Dexter left/right kit # 23-112-113 use a 5-bolt mounting pattern but the Dexter brake kit # 23-105-106-09 has both 4-bolt and 5-bolt mounting holes. I went to our warehouse and measured the spacing of the 4 bolt holes. You can see this center-to-center hole spacing in the photo I prepared for you.
