Video Transcript for Review of ABS Fasteners 1-3/4 Castle Nut Cotter Pin - 165649

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this one eighth of an inch cotter pin. This is going to help to secure your castle nut, so that you don't have to worry about that castle nut coming off. So each arm of this pin is about one sixteenth of an inch, so when you have them combined there, it is gonna be one eighth of an inch. As far as our length goes, our overall measurement, we're looking at right two and a quarter of an inch there. Our usable length from the inside of that bend to the shorter arm, is going to be right at, call it one and three quarters of an inch.

So this is going to be made of a rough steel construction so it should do a really good job for you making sure that castle nut stays in place so that you don't have to worry about that coming off. So if you are needing a replacement one eighth inch thick cotter pin, this is going to do a great job for you. You are just gonna get the one pin with this part number so if you need multiple, obviously just increase your quantity. So that's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, thanks for watching..

We have a 2022 Forest River Forester 2551DSLE. Unfortunately it really doesn't come with a usable spare tire holder or a spare for that matter. It had a 4" steel bolt pointing straight down that would be completely worthless. No way I'd be strong enough to get a 75lb tire up there. After lots of measuring this was my only solution. BAL makes 2 products but neither would fit. I mounted 2 X 1" square aluminum bars for the tire to rest against. The winch itself mounted with 2 5/16 stainless hex bolts with nylon topped nuts to keep them from coming loose. The round bar that winches the tire into place uses a 1/8" cotter pin to hold it in place. The hole for the cotter in the bar was drilled in the wrong place so I had to cut off about 1/4" of the tube to get it to fit. I used an original Ford 16" wheel for an e450. The fitting that holds the wheel is about 7". Make sure it is centered as you winch the tire into place. Once up and properly in place it seems secure. Hopefully this will solve our problem of no spare. I would have given this 5 stars if everything would have lined up out of the box. The winch itself seems to be pretty heavy duty and this is the kind of thing that hopefully won't need to be used that often.

Just repacked bearings with new seals on my 4' x 8' folding utility trailer. Customer service was great in helping me with selecting the right parts including cotter pins. All is good now. I have been ordering from etrailer for 10 + years. Great place with great people!

I purchased my KZ Sportster 3 1/2 years ago new and never had to use the spare. I recently decided to drop the spare and inspect it when to my surprise I discovered that the extension rod was not installed. The dealer told me it must have come that way and KZ told me the dealer must have removed it. etrailer delivered it to me two days after ordering it and 5 minutes later I had it installed. At least etrailer is concerned about customer satisfaction and I appreciate the quick response and quality product.

Product is fine but packaging was a joke. A very large box was used and only a small amount of kraft paper was used as cushioning. Six to eight of the brake assemblies could have been put in this box. Fortunately there was no damage to my assemblies. I thought that surely this would have been corrected given the number of people that have complained about it. I guess the complaints are not getting to the correct person with the authority to make a change.

Ed W was fantastic at helping me sort out exactly what I needed for my project. Ed also followed up once he was notified the package was delivered! Very happy with the support and knowledgeable staff. etrailer is at the top of list of places to purchase.

by:

Well I'm sorry to inform you that when I opened the box. I had a left kit, a right kit and an empty bag. After looking in the box closer under the flaps I found a washer and a nut. That was all.

Love the video to assist with installat ion

by:

Roger was so helpful in putting together a complete bearing kit from parts. Not many other places would take the time to sort out all the parts that normally come in a kit, that was unavailable. The OTER GUYS just tell you, sorry "supply chain issues-nothing I can do" I highly recommend etrailer. Ive been doing business with them over 10 years.

It's a simple item, but nice to have a new pin to use instead of trying to reuse a bent one!

It’s a cotter pin. Four stars for service and quick delivery.

by:

Great product, fast shipping! The brakes are perfect for our Airstream; I only wish that I spent the extra for self adjusting brakes

What's to tell, they bent into position, they are cotter pins.

  • Can I Use the Dexter Cotter Pin on a Lippert Axle
The Cotter Pin # 165649 can be used on a Lippert axle, so as long as you're replacing a cotter pin with a 1/8" diameter and 1-3/4" of usable space, this will work just fine for you. If your pin has different dimensions, just let me know what you're looking for and I can help you locate a replacement.

  • What Size Cotter Pin is Used with Replacement Axle Bolt Kit for Yakima Rack and Roll Trailers
I went out to the warehouse and pulled Replacement Axle Bolt Kit # Y8880180 to measure the cotter pin in the kit. The pin is approximately 0.11 inches thick whereas the hole is just slightly larger than 0.125 inches (1/8). The pin has an overall length of 1.64 inches. For a replacement you could use # 165649.

  • What is the Torque Rating for an Equalizer Bolt
Equalizer bolts, like the TruRyde Wet Equalizer Bolt, # TRFA71063, should be torqued to yield. Equalizer bolts are not given a specific torque rating because they should allow some movement of the equalizer. If they are torqued down too tight, the equalizer will have difficulty moving and that could bind up your trailers suspension. Simply tighten the bolts down until they are tight, but still allow the equalizer to move. Keep in mind, the cotter pin is not included with this bolt. The...

  • Torque Specs for Axle Spindle Nut, Suspension Hanger Bolts, and Lug Nuts for Trailer
It looks like you might be asking about a few different torque specs so I'll address all of them separately. For a trailer axle spindle nut like part # 165686 you will need to run the spindle nut down until there is no more side-to-side play in the hub and then back it off to the next notch so you can secure the cotter pin, like part # 165649, through the spindle. When it comes to hanger bolts like the Redline # 166081 there isn't a specific torque rating either as you just need to make...

  • Correct Replacement Castle Nut, Cotter Pin, and Washer for Trailer with 1" Round Spindle
The correct replacement castle nut, cotter pin, and washer for a trailer with 1" round spindle is as follows: Castle Nut part # 165686, Cotter Pin part # 165649, and Washer part # SW1000. Unfortunately, we can't cross-reference trailer mfg. part numbers but the above parts are fairly standardized so there will be no issues with compatibility.

  • Where Does Flat Washer Go
I was unable to find an order number so I'm not certain exactly what you are referring to, but in general a flat washer such as Washer For 1" Spindle # SW1000 will go between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on, which essentially works to protect the bearing. These washers are used on spindles with a spindle nut such as Spindle Nut 1" # 165686 and Cotter Pin # 165649.

  • Spindle Nut Kit Recommendation for a Dexter 6k Axle
Since the D60 Dexter Axle uses a cotter pin and castle nut the # RG05-100 would not be the correct kit for you. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. People use channel locks typically for installation and removal of these castle nuts since they don't really get torqued down and the length of the spindle prevents most standard sockets from being easily used.

  • Spindle Nut Recommendation for a 3,500 lb Axle
Since you have a 3,500 lb axle most likely the diameter of the threaded portion of the spindle is 1 inch. You will need to verify that. And since the spindle has a hole in it for a cotter pin you would need a castle nut. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. The Spindle Nut Kit # RG05-100 that you referenced is for a different style spindle so I would not recommend it for you.

  • Replacement Axle Nut for 3500 lb Boat Trailer Axles
We have what you need! For EZ-Lube axles which are very common on boat trailers you want to use the Spindle Nut Kit for EZ Lube Axles part # RG05-100. This will have two nuts, washers and keepers. For the non EZ-Lube axles use the Trailer Spindle Nut 1" part # 165686 and the Cotter Pin part # 165649. these are individual so you will want two of each to have all you need. You can confirm these will fit on your axles by measuring your spindle and ensuring that your it has 1" threads on it.

This kit has the washer, nut and keeper for both sides. For non EZ lube hubs use the Trailer Spindle Nut 1" part # 165686. This is just the nut so grab the amount you'll need and if you don't have them on hand pick up the same number of these Cotter Pin, 1/8" x 1-3/4" part # 165649
