Video Transcript for Tekonsha Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 119130 Review

Today we are going to review part number 119130. This is the tow ready upgraded taillight converter with the four-way flat trailer connector. Now, this part will provide a four-way flat trailer connector at the back of your tow vehicle to power your tow trailers signal lights. This will work with most LED incandescent and standard bulbs on the vehicles or on the trailers. It is designed to work with most vehicles multi flex wiring systems for lighting and it will also help prevent feedback from the trailer to the vehicle system to protect the tow vehicles electrical system. Now, on this end you'll notice, is the 60 inch length of bonded wire that has the four-way on the end that connects to your trailer, to your trailer.

You'll notice this does include the integrated dust cover that when you're not plugged in, you can put that over there and protects those terminals from any damage or from the elements. On the other side you'll see the wires that need to be connected to your tow vehicle. They measure for about 18 inches long. And what you want to do is we would recommend to always use a circuit tester and you want to test each wire for what it does so when you hook it up, you hook it up correctly. You don't always want to go color to color. You want to look it up to what that circuit does.

With this long green wire, this is designed to hook to your, and they are all marked here on the converter itself, this is what a right turn signal. And then the other wires, the white wire with the eyelid connector on it, that is for the ground. You want to connect this to a good clean ground. The remaining wires, your brown would be for your taillight connection. Your yellow would be for your left turn signal and the red wire would be for your brake light. Once you get that all connected then you would be able to put this in to your trailer and supply the lights on your trailer.

A few specs on this. The maximum stop and turn light circuit is 2.1 amps per side. And the maximum on the taillight circuit is 7.5 amps. But that should do it for the review on part number 119130. This is the tow ready upgraded taillight converter with the four-way flat trailer connector.

The Tow Ready Tail Light Converter, 119130, is perfect for my needs. I have a trailer with LED lighting, so the the amperage draw is fairly low. Using the 119130 converter, the @$#$#[email protected]^^ computerized lighting system in the tow vehicle is not "confused" by the additional load, as well as converting the 3 wire to a 2-wire trailer system. I was concerned that I might need a separately powered converter to make things work, but that's not the case. The LED trailer lights are the way to go. Wiring is simple, with connections labeled right on the unit, and the leads should be long enough for almost all situations. Be sure to find a real metal ground location, and scrape the paint to get to bare metal. I know that the screw in the hole will give a decent ground, but I like to avoid weird issues that can surface if a ground is poor. Various tap type connectors make stripping and taping a thing of the past. Happy towing! 331315

Everything works perfectly , now I can tow a US trailer with my original european trailer hitch and plug - I did not test the second wiring yet which should allow me to tow my european trailer with an US vehicle , but I am sure it will work the same way if I wire the plugs correctly . Unfortunately I did not make any pictures , but the instructions coming along with the order are very clear and easy I appreciate the information and will shop with the guys again Michael 237980

I'm pleased to see that all of the wire leads are more than long enough to make for a simple install. I didn't get the unit with separate 12V power as the load will be minimal. So here it is. The unit is for my new "Winky the White Cat" that sits on the rear shelf of my car. If you never heard of it, you are just too young. :-) Winky's eyes flash with the turn signals, and to get full effect I needed to convert to a standard turn/stop system. Plus, I can unplug Winky and pull a small utility trailer with low draw LED lights. Solved my problems. 233039

Comments

The product is continuing to be functional for both the Winky cat and my motorcycle trailer with LEDs. Still happy!

Do you have a question about this Wiring?

  • Adapter Recommendation for Going from 7-Way Round to Flat
  • There is no taillight converter installed in the Adapter part # HM47425 that you referenced so if you need to go from separate to combined lights then this kit is not for you. You will need to add a converter, like the Tow Ready, # 119130. Just cut off the 4 way end and wire it into this adapter. I have attached a picture which illustrates this.

If you want to change out your wiring completely, I recommend the Tekonsha Upgraded Heavy Duty ModuLite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness with Install Kit # 119190KIT. This will give you the quick splice connections and the power wiring to your battery to allow you to keep your current European wiring and add the American style trailer wiring. If you just want a converter adapter, you can use the European 7-way round pin adapter to American 4-way...

That harness is only a confirmed fit for a 2002-2004 Isuzu Axiom. It is likely that it won't work properly on your vehicle. Along with the connector you purchased and the diodes you will need an appropriate length of Bonded 4 Wire, # 16-4B-1. I would recommend about 30 feet. • Can Separate Amber Turn Signals be Added to a Trailer
  • Trailers in the United States have what is called a 2 wire system. One wire has the running lights (tail lights) for the whole trailer. The other circuit (one per side) is brake lights and turn signals. All you need to do is separate out the brake signal from the turn signal using a special converter, # 118158. Please note this converter will only work with incandescent lights and not LED lights. If you need to have LED lights then the only other option like you said is to run wires...

  • Unfortunately we do not have an adapter to go from a European 13-way trailer connector to a U.S. style 4-way trailer connector. European trailers typically have separate brake light and turn signal circuits, but U.S. trailers use a combined wiring system that use one wire for the turn signals and brake lights. In order to get your light bars with separate turn signals and brake lights to function you just need to separate out those circuits on the vehicle using a converter such as # C56196. The main difference between European trailer wiring and US trailer wiring is that European trailers typically use a 3-wire system and US trailers use a 2-wire system. • 7 way Round to 4 Way Flat Adapter Recommendation
  • The 7-way round style of connector that the # 47405 has is the same style that is typically found on tractor trailer type rigs. The issue you may run into is that the taillight circuits of your tractor are separate, meaning that the brake lights and the stop lights are carried on separate circuits. If that is the case just the # 47405 wouldn't work. If this is the case you will want the converter part # 119130 and a male round 7-way part # PK11700.
