Video Transcript for Tekonsha Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 118001 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number 118001. This is the Tow Ready 4-Pole 48 inch Long Vehicle End including the 4 Wire Taps. This is made out of 18 gauge bonded wires. The Taillight, Stop and Turn functions are all printed on the wire. Which makes it a bit easier when installing. The white ground wire does run the full length of the assembly.

When full extended it's 48 inches long. These blue wiretaps are just quick connectors that connect to the end of your assembly and then connect to the wires attached to you vehicle. That just to make it to more quick and easy install. The 4 pole will connect to whatever it is that you're wanting to tow as long as it has the similar connection. You can also purchase the wiring harness mounting bracket for your 4 pole to mount to the back of your vehicle. It gives it a little bit of a cleaner look.

That can be purchased from our website. Again, with this fully extended, it's 48 inches long. The white wire is for your ground. The brown wire is for your taillights. The yellow wire is for your left turn and stop signal.

The green wire is for your right turn and stop signal. That'll complete today's review of part number 118001. The Tow Ready 4-Pole 48 inch Long Vehicle End including the 4 Wire Taps. .

  • Adding Tail Lights to a Cargo Carrier at the Back of a Travel Trailer
  • First for a light kit that is designed for certain cargo carriers you can use # 98174LED. It uses a 4-Way connector and since the brake and turn signal lights on your trailer are combined (based on the fact that it uses a 7-Way connector) To add a 4-Way you can tap into the trailer's lights using # 118001. And to mount it at the back of the trailer you can use bracket # 18144. Depending on the cargo carrier you have you may also need 2 of bracket # BK70BB to attach the lights.

  • Directions for Installing a Brake Controller on a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado Without Towing Package
  • Installing a brake controller on your 1989 Chevy Silverado pickup is pretty straight forward. To start, you will need all of the parts for the complete installation of a trailer connector and the brake controller. The parts needed are a 4-Way trailer connector, item # 118001, or # 118315, a Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, item # ETBC7, and a brake controller of your choice. Brake controllers are not vehicle specific but there are some things to keep in mind. A proportional...

  • Trailer Wiring for a 2004 Nissan Frontier
  • Your vehicle requires a converter to convert the trucks 5-Wire system down to the 4-Wire system used on trailers. You will find a connection point behind the rear bumper on the passenger side frame rail, that you will use to plug in the Plug-N-Tow (TM) Wiring Harness, item # 33515. This wiring harness has a converter installed and plugs inline with the original factory connectors. If you want to hard wire your trailer connection then you could use the Upgraded Circuit Protected Taillight...

  • Parts needed to Attach 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring to a 4-Pin Round Harness on a 1995 Ford F-150
  • You have 3 options for connecting your trailer with a 4-Way flat connector to your F-150 with 4-Way Round connector. Probably the best way to go in the long run, would be to use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, item # 118316, to install a 4-Way Flat connector on your truck and eliminate the 4-Way round connector. I have included installation instructions for this harness for you to review. This will allow you to tow your trailer with a direct connection...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that has Blown Up Two Tail Light Converters
  • Although taillight converters, just like any other electronic device have a set lifespan, losing two of them in rapid succession tells us that something is going on. The two most likely causes are a short circuit in the trailer wiring and overloading the converter. First, check the wiring on your trailer. Beginning at the trailer connector and working your way back to each lamp, closely examine the wiring. Wire insulation can become brittle over time, look for any cracked or worn...

  • Can Curt 2-Inch RV Bumper Trailer Hitch Receiver # E-100 Mount to camper to Tow Boat Trailer
  • The Curt 2-Inch RV Bumper Trailer Hitch Receiver # E-100 has enough capacity for towing a 3500-lb trailer load like your 17-foot jon boat. It will mount to a 4-inch square channel bumper using the included hardware. You will want to check with your camper manufacturer to verify that your particular camper model has the bumper and frame strength to allow towing a trailer with a GTW of around 3000-3500-lbs. Both the camper's bumper and the frame structure have to be sufficiently strong...

  • Availability of a Trailer Wiring Diagram for a 2012 Honda Goldwing and 1999 Escapade SE Trailer
  • Wiring your motorcycle to tow your motorcycle trailer will require some testing and investigation of the lighting configuration on your trailer. First, check the lights on your 1999 Escapade SE trailer. If the trailer has separate lights or bulbs for the turn and stop lights then the trailer will have a 5 wire connector. In this case you will need to contact Honda for wiring for the trailer, that will protect the motorcycles circuitry. If the trailer has combined stop and turn signals...

  • Replacement Trailer Connector For 2001 Toyota Tundra
  • If the connector you cut off your 2001 Toyota Tundra is a 4-way, the connector I recommend is part # 118001. This is a 48 inch long harness with the vehicle end 4-way connector. If you cut a 7-way connector off, then I recommend the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector with Universal Pigtail Harness, part # HM47210. Since you said you cut the wires on your truck, you can simply attach this harness as a replacement. To keep the connector more secure I recommend...

  • 4-way Options for use With a Tow Ready Mounting Bracket
  • The Hopkins 4-way # HM48030 that you referenced is a great 4-way, but like you noticed, it is much larger than most 4-ways so it would not fit through the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144 that you have. You basically have two choices at this point. You can either buy a different 4-way that will fit through the hole of the # 18144. Or you could cut off your # HM48030 and then run the wires through the front of the # 18144 and then reconnect the wires to the 4-way wiring of your vehicle. Check...

  • How to Install a 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector on a 2007 GMC Sierra Extended Cab 4X4 Pickup
  • You can connect the 4-Pole 48 inch Long Vehicle End (with 4 Wire Taps), item # 118001, to the existing trailer wiring harness behind the plug that is located above the spare tire on your Sierra if it is not equipped with a factory trailer connector. To do so you will need to use a circuit tester to identify the wires that right turn and brake signal, the left turn and brake signal, and the tail light signal. Once you have found these wires and labeled them you will connect the white...

  • Trailer Lights Stopped Working on Wiring Harness # 118558 for 2013 Honda Pilot
  • Thank you for your September 2013 purchase of trailer wiring harness kit # 118558 for your 2013 Honda Pilot. First, check that all of the relays are inserted properly in the harness and the fuse you installed in the engine compartment is still okay. You can also unplug the relays and connectors to inspect the condition of the contacts, looking for any dirt, potential corrosion from moisture or any other visible condition that could explain the non-functioning stop/turn lights. • How Do I Install a 4-Way Trailer Connector on a 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara
  • Part # 118001 will not work on your 2009 Suzukia Grand Vitara. Since the brake and turn signals on your vehicle are on separate circuits, you will need a converter. Part # 118456 is a custom fit harness that will plug into the tail light connectors of your tail lights and convert the separate brake and turn signals to allow proper function with standard 4-Pole trailers. I have added a link to the part and the instructions below.

  • If your 2006 Ford F-150 has a factory tow package, the Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 40185, that you referenced is the correct harness. If your truck does not have a factory tow package, you will need Draw-Tite Wiring, # 18252. This is a hardwire 4-Flat. You will need access to the taillight wiring. The yellow wire is left turn and stop. The brown wire is running lights. The green wire is right turn and stop. The white wire is ground. If you just need to replace a broken 4-Way,...
