Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring - Trailer Connectors - PK11898 Review

Today we're going to review part number PK11898. This is the Pollak seven-way RV-style trailer connector socket with the wiring harness and the mounting bracket. Now, this part includes this four-foot long wiring harness. This harness will hard-wire into your vehicle wiring system using the seven wires right here. Now, if you notice, they are color-coded. In a minute here, I'll go through what each function is, but the color-coded seven wire leads, they do meet the recreational vehicle industry standards.

It does come with the butt connectors and an eyelet connector for the ground to install this. Now, on the other end of this right here, this connector, does have a weather-tight seal on the back of the socket, so when you do plug it into your seven-way, it'll form a weather-tight seal on the back of the socket. Helps keep out any moisture. Helps prevent corrosion. Also comes with this right-angle mounting bracket right here. This will conveniently mount under the rear bumper of your truck or your SUV.

It is a zinc-played construction. Has a nice black epoxy coating, and that coating will help protect it against rust and corrosion. It does come with all the screws needed to . Two self-threaded screws to install this to the vehicle, and then four nuts and bolts to install your seven-way into your bracket itself. Now, on the socket, the RV seven-way socket has a spring-loaded lid. Uses a nice stainless steel spring, and on the lid itself, has a nice rubber gasket on the inside, so when it does close, that will help prevent any leaks.

It does have at the bottom . Let me see if I can hold this open. Try to show you. Right at the very bottom, there's actually a drain slot, so when this is installed, it'll actually be at a slight angle, and that drain slot will help get any moisture out of there by draining it out. On the very front of the lid, it also shows you the wiring diagram, what each pin will ...

function of each pin in there. Now, it does use copper-plated terminal pins. That gives you high conductivity, low resistance. On the very front, where the blades are, these seven blade . at the very back of it, it's sealed with a silicone. The reason they do that is that will help prevent moisture from contacting your mating connector. Now, a few specs on this. The current rating is 30 amps. The volt rating is 12 volts. The wiring configuration again, we'll go back to the color-coded wires. Now, what you want to do when you do install this to your vehicle, you don't want to install it color to color. That doesn't always work. What you want to do is test the wires on your vehicle, and then match it to what these functions are. I'm going to go through these functions, and tell you what they are. You do always want to test it with a circuit tester to match it up by function, not by color. We'll start with the white, that's the biggest one. That's a 10 gauge. That's the ground. Again, they do give you an eyelet so you can install that to a good, clean ground. Now, the red, that's your left turn and stop. That's a 14 gauge. The blue, the blue wire is for your electric brakes. That's a 12-gauge size wire. The green is your right turn and stop. That's a 14-gauge wire. The black is a 12 gauge. That's for battery. The brown is a 14-gauge wire, and that's for your running lamps, tail lights. The yellow is for your reverse or back-up lamps, and that's a 14-gauge wire. Again, when you do use your connectors to make your connection points, always test the wires to make sure they install correctly. What you want to do is once you have that all wired up and then your bracket installed, what you want to do is go ahead and you can just run this through your mounting bracket, and then you want to make your connection . I just want to show you. When you plug this in, you just line this up. Then when you push it in, you'll hear it click into place. To make sure you push this gray tab in, and that'll lock it. It keeps it from vibrating loose. Then if you just want to remove it, just get a small screwdriver. Stick it in there. Pull that gray tab out to unlock it. Then there's a black tab. Just push down. When you push that down, it'll release it. Then just pull it right apart, so it's easy to install and easy to disconnect also. That should do it for the review on part number PK11898, the Pollak seven-way RV-style trailer connector socket with the wiring harness and the mounting bracket. .

Great product. Very Well made and more than enough wiring to complete the job. 2000 GMC pickup and the wiring had been cobbled up back to the trailer receptacle. Only took about 30 minutes to complete the job. The instructions regarding matching up the wiring from the truck to the new wiring harness were concise and easy to follow. 424106

his is the product if you do not have the trailer package on your vehicle. The 07 F150 I bought does not have the trailer towing package so I could not buy the plug and play version of this. The wire length is good so that you can easily locate the socket and still reach the vehicle's wiring harness. The instructions were good but I had trouble finding the correct lead for +battery to hook up to. Great price and delivery from etrailer as always. 690062

As always, great product, good price, and very fast delivery! I appreciate being instructed to verify my trucks wiring, because, although I thought my 7 pin was original it turned out that my truck was only wired with 6 wires. My truck had no red wire and the yellow was used in place of it.i hooked the new adapter's red wire to my feed yellow, abandoned the new yellow wire, and I'm good too good! 647263

This was a perfect replacement for an old worn out 7-pole connector on my motorhome. This unit has a heavy guage wiring harness with standard color coding for each wire. The socket has a sturdy spring loaded cover that should keep out water a dirt. The instruction sheet includes a wiring diagram. I like that the connector socket can be easily removed from the wiring harness if it ever needs replacement. 636918

  • Recommended Trailer Brake Controller for 2012 Chevy Silverado
For your 2012 Chevy Silverado, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. This is an excellent proportional controller that will activate the brakes on your boat trailer at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your truck. It features an easy-to-read digital display, 3 boost settings, and continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. This unit is well known for its reliability and ease of use. The wires for a 7-way connector should be under the rear of your 2001 Chevrolet Silverado already. Use a circuit tester, like # 40376, and test the wires for their function. Then you can install a 7-way like # PK11898. Or if you wish to keep the 4-way and add a 7-way use # 37185. Then you can install an electric brake controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 using the wiring adapter # 3025-P.

Instead of having bed rails in the bed of your truck you just have the gooseneck hitch ball receiver and safety chain loops as you can see in the attached photo.
