Video Transcript for Review of Hopkins Vehicle Wiring - 4 Pole Trailer Connectors - HM48925

Today we'll be taking a look at the Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit with four pole flat trailer connector. And this is going to be a hard wire four pole connection for our vehicle, so it's going to give us our turn light signals, our stop and tail light signals to be converted to work with our accessory, whether that's our four pole wiring on our trailer or a cargo carrier maybe that has some lights on it that use that four pole flat or any other situation where we need that, what that light connection.Basically this is going to be a pretty simple install to do, but it does again require hard wiring or cutting and splicing into your vehicles tail lights. So we're going to be pulling the power from our vehicles tail lights. You'll make your connections by cutting into the passenger side turn signal. That's going to be for the green wire. The yellow wire is our driver's side turn signal.

Red wire will be our brake signal. Brown wire will be the park or tail light's signals or your running lights, and then the white wire is going to be the ground. It already comes with a ring terminal already installed. So you can just pop that onto maybe an existing ground if you have one in your vehicle or ground stud. Really anywhere where there's a bolt going into the metal that's going to create a good connection, or if not, you can always use a self tapping screw to go into a good piece of sheet metal on your vehicle to provide that good chassis ground. So this is pretty much going to work on just about any vehicle since we're making that direct connection into our vehicle's wiring.

We'll have our electrical tail light converter box here. That's going to convert those signals into a usable signal for our four pole and help to prevent any kind of back feed between the two. So we'll know our vehicle's wiring is protected from any issues that might arise on our trailer side. But again, this is a hard wire system. You're going to have to cut and splice into your vehicle's wiring. So this is really designed for those applications where we don't have another option, there's no custom fit wiring available and this is the route that we need to go.If you forget which wire goes where, there is a little key on the back of this converter box embossed into the plastic there.

So again, green's will be right turn, red is for brake, left turn is yellow, brown is tail or marker lights and then white is ground and that corresponds directly to the other side. So it's all lined out there, makes it a little easier if you happen to forget which wire goes where. As far as the specs for this. Amps per circuit is going to be 2.1 amps. So that's how much draw we're going to have for our lighting signal. The overall length of our wiring harness is 72 inches or about six feet, and this doesn't come with any kind of butt connectors or zip ties.

There's no self-driving screw, so those are all things that you would want to pick up to complete your install. You can find all of those accessories here at etrailer.com including heat shrink butt connectors, which I would highly suggest if any of these connections have to go outside the vehicle. It's just best to use those heat shrinks because they're going to keep any water, dirt, or debris from getting into that connection and causing any corrosion issues.Zip ties are also a good idea to keep everything nice and tidy. I have some around the wires here, so that's going to help to keep your wires up and out of the way and keep them from getting dislodged or you don't want your wires hanging and then getting rubbed against any kind of sharp edges and causing issues there. So few items that I would definitely suggest to pick up before you get to installing your wiring. All in all, I hope that information is helpful in helping you to determine whether you need the Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit with the four pole flat trailer connector.

Product was exactly as described. Only thing that i encountered different than the instructions listed ,, Stated match wiring color to color. Well it is hard to connect green to green for right turn signal when there is NO green wire for my right turn signal. It is actually tan. So color codes don't always match. The product works great and is used to supply power to my Jazzy hauler. Does what i purchased it for. Very happy with the product and excellent service from etrailer. 425143

It wired up nice and easy. It’s very compact the instructions are very clear. Great customer service. Though it was a bitch to figure out which wires deadwood on my particular cars taillights, I had to test each wire to figure out what its function was in order to hook the correct wires together. A lot of people on YouTube were using quick splice Connectors, I soldered all of my connections. I recommend doing that 449343

Installed on a 2006 Honda Element. Found an etrailer video on youtube to help me with the wiring and everything was perfect. The device installed behind my left tail light, and I had to use a butt splice connector and some extra wire to lengthen the wire to reach the right turn signal. Even those steps were spelled out in the video. Great website and support. Would order again from etrailer. 580099

Converter replaced the original U-Haul unit that was installed with new hitch when my 2001 Toyota Tacoma was just purchased. Installed easily. Wire colors were not the same as my car, but it wasn't hard to figure out what hooked to what. I would have given 5 stars had the four required tap connectors been included with the harness. Trailer lights and flashers worked just fine on the first attempt - didn't even need to change the turn signal relay to prevent high speed flashing. 279701

  • Wiring Harness Recommendation For A 2004 Ford Escape
  • The Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 119178 is not ran directly to the vehicle's battery. There are 5 wires that you will need to connect in order to install this harness. The white wire is for the ground circuit. The brown wire is for the tail lights. The yellow wire is responsible for the left turn signal. The red wire is responsible for the stop lights and the green wire is for the right turn signal. You will attach each of these...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2015 Chevy Impala Limited
  • I'm glad to hear your trailer hitch receiver installation went well. For your 2015 Chevy Impala Limited, I recommend the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236 which has a max amperage of 5 amps on stop/turn lights and 7.5 amps on tail lights. This is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and will protect your factory wiring. The Hopkins # HM48925 will only put out a max amperage of 2.1 per circuit so that won't help. There are many that could work,...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2004 Ford Escape without Factory Tow Package
  • I do have some recommendations for you but you cannot use wiring harness # C55255 unless the 2004 Ford Escape has the factory tow package. The issue is either the factory connector this harness plugs into won't be there or, if it is there, it won't be active and additional parts would be needed anyway. For models without the factory tow package you would use a hardwire harness such as # HM48925 or # 46255. I recommend # 46255 because it is a powered converter which takes the load off...

  • Will Curt Hitch and Drawbar fit a 2007 Toyota Saris?
  • The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11060 will fit your 2007 Toyota Yaris if it is a sedan and not a 3-door hatchback. The correct ball mount for this hitch is the Curt # C45521, for which you'd also need a pin and clip, # F-4. Keep in mind that using this hitch would require the use of Curt's support straps # 18050 for non-trailer loads or you would void the warranty. Should you have a hatchback, I highly recommend using the Draw-Tite # 24819. It will not require the use of...

  • The highest rated converter box in terms of amperage capacity is # 119192. It is rated for 4.2 amps for brake and turn signal lights per side and 16 amps for running/tail lights. Since you are using LED lights though the power draw from those lights won't come close to the capacity of this system. This is a powered converter and it can be used on vehicles that have combined stop and turn signal lights. All you would do is ground the red wire with the white wire and use the green wire...

  • Neither the Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # HM48925 or the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 119178 will require you to use a heavy duty flasher while towing with your 2004 Ford Escape with or without the factory tow package. Each of the lighting circuits on the wiring harness has a 2.1 amp max draw, therefore this is not problematic for your factory wiring circuit. I will say that it will...

If your Ram has a 7-Way trailer connector then another option to get it to work with LED lights on a trailer or other item is to use a special adapter # TR20141 which has load resistors to create more draw so the tow vehicle computer...

  • Trailer Hitch Options for a 2005 Audi Allroad Quattro
  • The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11166 as you mentioned is rated for a maximum trailer weight capacity up to 2,000 lbs therefore, I cannot recommend you use this to tow your 2,475 lb trailer. The maximum trailer weight capacity of this hitch cannot be increased by using a class II ball mount like the Curt Class II Euro Style Drawbar part # C45572 sadly. Unfortunately, we do not have any option for you to tow over 2,000 lbs with your Audi as none of the trailer hitch manufactures...

  • Will Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit # HM48925 Fit a 2008 Hyundai Accent
  • Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit # HM48925 can be used on pretty much any vehicle since it is a hardwire kit. The 2008 Hyundai Accent (sedan and hatchback models) are represented in the list of fits though because it is such a big list it is easy to miss it.

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring Harness to Fit a 1992 Geo Metro Convertible
  • Yes, I confirmed with Curt that the # C11626 trailer hitch receiver will fit the convertible model of the 1992 Geo Metro. To tow a trailer you'll need a way to power its lights. Use # HM48925 for a 4-way trailer connector on the back of the Metro. For a hitch ball that fits the trailer hitch receiver use # 19258 for a 2 inch or # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville
  • The trailer wiring harnesses for the 1998 Pontiac Bonneville are all hardwire designs that require splicing into the tail light wiring for installation. The one exception that does not require splicing is ZCI harness # 119250KIT. This is still a hardwire kit but instead of splicing into the wires the ZCI harness has clamps that go around the vehicle tail light wires and sense the electricity passing through them. If you want just a regular hardwire harness you can use # HM48925. For...

  • Class V Trailer Hitch for 2004 Cadillac Escalade
  • It looks like you are trying to find a large trailer hitch for a 2004 Cadillac Escalade and we do have what you need, though the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 41947 is not a fit for your Escalade, and measures 30-1/2 inches from bolt hole to bolt hole. For your 2004 Cadillac Escalade there is a mammoth of a hitch that fits, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class V XD # C15324. This hitch has a 2,400 lb tongue weight capacity and 16,000 lb towing capacity and is so durable it comes with...

  • Troubleshooting Left Turn Signal Working Only Part of Time on Boat Trailer
  • The issue you are experiencing is likely a bad ground connection. It sounds like it worked, then didn't, and now works again which definitely sounds like the ground connection. I recommend checking your main ground connection on your boat trailer if there is a consistant spot on your frame. If not, then I recommend checking the ground connection at your tail lights. There is sometimes a separate ground wire for each light and other times the ground is through the mounting hardware on...

  • Parts Needed to Install a Prodigy P3 Electric Brake Controller in a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500
  • The Prodigy P3, part # 90195, is the same for all vehicles. The wiring, like you've read, is what varies from vehicle to vehicle and it can be tricky because sometimes it depends on how the tow vehicle was originally equipped from the factory to determine what you need. The 2007 Dodge Ram potentially included a 7- or 4-way trailer connector directly from the factory or no connector at all. If yours had either the 7- or 4-way then you can use part # 3020-P to plug in the P3 and plug...
