  • Connector: 5-way flat
  • Wire length: 18"
  • Wire gauge: 16 gauge
  • 3-Year warranty

The 5-way flat connector is found on most newer boat trailers that have hydraulic brakes. The fifth wire in this model ties into the reverse lights on your vehicle so that a signal can be sent to your hydraulic brake actuator to disengage whenever the tow vehicle is put into reverse. To use this function, your actuator must have an electric reverse lockout with solenoid.

The 5-way design will also work with small utility trailers that have electric brakes. For this type of application, the fifth wire will need to be wired to correspond with your in-cab, electric brake controller.

All the products I purchase from etrailer (most recently trailer bearing grease and five pin trailer plugs) are always high quality and do the job they are designed to do. The prices are reasonable also. 778659

Hitch fit great. Installed it myself. Wiring was plug and play. Was a little difficult to get to the wires behind the panels. I do recommend this hitch. 770883

this item was inexpensive and did the job for which it was ordered perfectly. It was used to connect to a 5 pin wire coming from my RV in place of the typical exposed bulky receptacle found on the front of many towed cars. This was installed under the hood of my car and could be flipped out to connect to the RV coiled pigtail. The fifth wire, which is typically used for back up was instead used to provide power to keep the battery charged when connected to the RV with the RV engine running. This has proven to be sturdy and after a year of use has continued to perform as virtually new. The small whole in the sides allows me to connect the two plugs and use a "wire paperclip" to assure they wont unplug due to an excessive tug when towing. buy again and recommend YES. 698210

The product arrived in a timely manner and undamaged. I have not used this 5 pole adapter yet, but the 4 pole adapter I previously bought from etrailer years ago is still working great. I have no reason to doubt that this adapter will function equally well. I appreciate the good products and customer service from Etrailer. 671057

These are the best! I can not tell you how many connections I have replaced over the years until I got these. They are strong and the wires are protected so they do not break at the connection point. The wrapping is so much better than tape or other forms of protection. I have changed all my connections on both vehicle and trailer with these units. I am very happy with the product. 449792

etrailer.com was great. The plug arrived as expected and packaged well. It is well made and appears it will last for many years. The only thing is I wish the wires and the protective sleeve was longer. I would have liked to spliced it back where it entered the trailer but ended up using butt connectors with shrink wrap that show in the middle of my wiring. Had to use the old rubber tube protector half way and the new mesh protector on the plug the other half with butt connectors between two types of cover. I covered those with black tape, not very pretty but works well. 433385

I bought this to replace the 5 pin connector on my boat trailer after an electrical short melted the connector. Connection is solid to the 7 to 5 pin adapter. Protective cover is nice to have as the boat trailer spends its time sitting outside. Only complaint I had was one of the pigtails was a non-traditional color so visually it looks off when wired up to traditional trailer wiring. Can't recall which was off as I no longer own the trailer. 419327

Being a new boat owner I was quickly overwhelmed by what I didn't know. Re-wiring, re-lighting my trailer was my first project. etrailer has a wide range of products, but most important to me, was their added product information and instructional information which helped me make the right selections to get this done. Add to that is their very competitive prices. etrailer will be my go to source for my future trailer needs. 313880

Ask the Experts about this Hopkins Wiring

  • Adapter For 5-Flat Towing Plug to 4-Flat Trailer Light Plug
If you were wondering if you need to make the trailer a 5-way, technically a 4-way and 5-way can plug into each other, so you don't have to do anything. You don't even have to wire the vehicle side. But if you want the function of the 5th pin, then you will need to add a 5-way to the trailer and wire it with # HM47910.

  • Replacement 7-Way Recommendation for a Trailer with 5-Way that Uses 5th Circuit for Brakes
All of the 7-way to 5-way adapter we carry are going to have the 5th circuit be for the reverse lights since that is the most common use for it. Your best option is going to be to replace the 5-way on your trailer with a 7-way. Trying to make an adapter would be a bit of a hassle and wouldn't be a great permanent solution. For that you could use the # A7WCB. Check out the install video I attached as well.

  • Replacing 5-Way on Trailer that Has 8 Wires
A standard 5-way like the part # HM47910 would work great to replace what you have. You'd just run all of the white wires that you have (all three) to the single white wire of this connector, both the brown wires to the single brown of the connector, and then match the rest of the wires by color and you'd be set.

  • Trailer Side 5-Way Cover for Wiring Connection Availability
For a 5-way trailer side we don't have the cover alone. You can use the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Trailer End - Ergonomic Design # HM47910 which has the integrated cover, or you can use a 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector In-Line Circuit Tester # 20115 to cover those connections. For wiring with integrated covers for both sides of the connection, you can use the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Kit - Vehicle and Trailer Ends - Ergonomic Design # HM47890.

  • Need a Vehicle 7-pin Round Adapter to Connect to a Boat Trailer 5-Pin Flat
We do offer several adapters for a 5 pin flat to a 7-way blade vehicle connection. If your van connection point is a 7-blade configuration then you can use the Optronics # A75TB. This is an adapter that will plug into a vehicle 7-way blade style connector and will attach to your 5-pin flat boat trailer wiring connector. If your van has a 7-way round pin vehicle connection pin, unfortunately we do not offer an adapter for that configuration. However, there is an option, and I recommend...

  • Can 5-Way Trailer Wiring Connector be Used with Trailer Brakes
Yes, a 5-way trailer connector can be used with trailer brakes. You'd have to make the 5th circuit of the 5-way the brake output circuit and you'd be set. Normally this is used for a reverse light circuit for a reverse lockout circuit but if you wired it up to be a brake output circuit it would work perfectly fine.

  • Should Trailer Wiring 5-Way Allow Trailer with Surge Brakes to Back Up When in Reverse
All you should need on the fifth circuit of your 5-way is a 12 volt signal to activate the reverse lock out. Have you used a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to verify you have 12 volts on that pin? Looking at the condition of your 5-way it is also very possible yours is damaged to the point it's not able to send the voltage to the circuit. For a replacement we have the part # HM47910.

  • Could the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector # HM47910 be Used for a Reverse Lockout
The fifth circuit on the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector # HM47910 that you referenced can be ran to a reverse lockout solenoid like what you have on your trailer. You mentioned a video where this was used for a brake output circuit, but the more common use of a 5-way is for the solenoid like what you have. The install video I attached shows it being used for a reverse solenoid.

  • Replacing a 5-Pin Trailer Connector on a Trailer with Separate Brake Light and Turn Signal Circuits
You can replace the round 5-pin trailer connector on your trailer with a 5-pin flat trailer connector like part # HM47910, but I would recommend replacing the existing connector with a 7-pin round trailer connector like the Pollack 7-Pole Trailer End Connector, # PK12706 or a 4-pin flat connector like part # HM48110. Since the trailer does not have brakes, there is really no need to keep using a 5-pin connector. You would also not have to purchase or use an additional adapter and you could...

  • Can a Reverse Light Function be Added to a 4-Way Connector
Yes, running a separate wire for the reverse light function will work but you will need to use connectors on your tow vehicle and trailer that has 5 pin locations instead of 4. If you just need a 5-Way for your vehicle side then use part # HM47900 but if you need one for your trailer side use part # HM47910.
