Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Trailer Connectors - HM47210 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number Hm47210. This is the Hopkins endurance quick qnstall 7-way trailer connector with a universal pigtail harness for the vehicle end. The 7-blade, RV-style trailer connector for your vehicle is a pretty simple install. The pigtail harness just simply hardwires into the truck's existing wiring, and the 7-way connector flows directly into our harness. You just push them together after you've got them lined up right, until you hear them click into place. You do want to be sure that you match up your wires to the correct wires on your vehicle.

The white is going to be our ground wire. Yellow is going to be our left turn. Green is going to be our right turn. Brown is going to be our tail light. Red is going to be the auxiliary power lead.

Blue is going to be our electric break, and purple is going to be the back up or reverse light. The lid does open 180 degrees for easy connections. It's also going to help keep out dirt and moisture. This does have enhanced weather proofing with the internal seals and currosion-resistant terminals. It comes from a durable, AVS plastic with an over-sized lid hinge. The mounting screws and the grease are included.

Our mounting screws are separated by an inch-and-a-half here on the side, and two-and-one-quarter inches here on the bottom. You're going to have a mounting of one-and-a-half-inch by two-and-a-quarter-inch. That's going to complete today's review of part number Hm47210, the Hopkins Endurance quick install 7-way trailer connector. .

Well made product. Will need to purchase mounting hardware and splicing material. Wire colors matched standard chevrolet wire colors with the exception of the backup/reverse which is purple on the pigtail vice light green on my truck. 430442

works just as intended. Install was easy, I did not use the included bracket because it would hang below the bumper. I mounted it inside the well on the bumper where you would put a bumper hitch. It is used only about once a month. I did have to run a brake controller wire because my truck was not equipped with it. 13 f150 xl 422060

This connector is just want I was looking for. It gives me a way to power my trailer via an external battery. I have attached battery clips to the leads. The construction is solid, and the documentation for each lead is excellent. For my cargo trailer, I use the lead for the running lights. For my travel trailer, I use the lead called accessories, I think. 376287

Works for me exactly as I hoped. A way to wire up a spare battery to run the lighting on the cargo trailer so as to not drain the truck battery. 371378

I had the loose wire pigtail already under my f250 sd. I clipped the factory sealant off the end of the wires on the truck, stripped em back and attached with heat seal butt connectors. You will need the blue and yellow connectors as the factory wires are different gauges. Etrailer has excellent how-to videos and detailed information about all their products it seems. It made buying and installing the right parts a breeze. They do the homework for you, their prices are better than most other online retailers and they ship fast. They earned my repeat business. 327610

  • Diagram of Functions on 7-Way Plug
I made a diagram for you which shows the function a 7-way plug for both a vehicle-side plug like what you get with the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector with Universal Pigtail Harness # HM47210 or Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector # 30717, as well as a trailer-side plug like the 7-Way Molded Connector w/ 15' Cable - Trailer End # 50-67-103 or 7-Way Connector - Trailer End # 54-77-003. I have also added a link to a help article on trailer wiring...

  • How to Change Out 4-Way at Rear of Motorhome to Work with 7-Way on Trailer
Thank you for the pictures! What you may be able to do is install the Hopkins # HM47210 on your motorhome to replace your current 4-Way round connector. I'm guessing the 2 wires for your brake controller system are for 12V power and for the brake controller signal. If this is the case then you will need to connect the following functions on your motorhome wiring with the following wires from the Hopkins connector: White - Ground Yellow - Left Stop/Turn Green - Right Stop/Turn Brown...

  • 7-Way Wiring Harness for 2015 Ford F-150
There is a simple solution for you, but there is no trick to getting the wires of the # 118283 back out since the wires are different gauges due to the brown wire being for the right turn/stop functions and the blue wire being for the trailer brakes. What you can do is cut off the 7-way on the # 118283 and replace it with 7-way connector # HM47210 that has a pigtail; you'll only need butt connectors # DW05745-5 and # DW05744-5 to connect your splices.

  • Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2015 Ford Expedition
First check under your 2015 Ford Expedition for a round connector, perhaps in the vicinity of the frame rail or spare tire, that could plug into the round connector on 4- and 7-Way # C55774. If that connector is present under the vehicle then you just have to plug it into the 20119 and then mount the connector. If you do not have that connector but have a 4-Way then you will have to hardwire in the 7-Way and brake controller using # ETBC7.

If you were wanting to just plug in your current 7-Way on your popup to a 7-Way that is connected to your auxiliary battery then you could install the Hopkins # HM47210 on your trailer. Then you would need to ground the white wire to a clean, bare-metal surface on your trailer and run some 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 from the Red wire on this connector to your battery. Even though this would work it wouldn't be as clean as just hardwiring your battery into the 12V Power circuit on your trailer....

  • Converting a Semi 7-Way Trailer Connector to an RV 7-Way Trailer Connector
There are a number of factors involved when converting a semi 7-way to an RV 7-way. Semis generally use a 7-pin round pin socket, similar to # PK11720. And RV style 7-way uses blades, like # PK12706. We do not offer any pre-made adapters to make this conversion that will carry all of the electrical functions required by the RV. Another thing to be aware of is fifth wheel trailers use a combined wiring system where the brake lights and turn signals are on circuit. Your semi connector...

  • Can Hopkins 7-Way part # HM47210 be Installed on Trailer and Connect to Trailer Battery
Yes, what you described is very common and would work well. The part # HM47210 that you referenced can have it's 12 volt power circuit wire ran to a trailer battery that is powering an electric tongue jack. People do this all the time and it works very well. Or if you wanted to use a pin on this connector as a different way to connect wiring to a battery that's possible as well.
