Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - HM47085 Review

Today we're going to review part number HM47085. This is the Hopkins heavy duty flex coil 7-way to 6-way round trailer connector adapter. This is a heavy duty coil and cable adapter which is compatible with the 7-way RV blade trailer socket that's on your vehicle and it will adapt it to work with your 6-way round connector that's on your trailer. One thing I do want to mention that any time you have a 6-way round of the center pin, on a 6-way round can be wired one of two ways, either as 12 volt power or electric brake output. This adapter happens to be wired as the center pin as an electric brake output so you just want to be aware of that and it is market on each connector, it says center pin is for electric brake so it does let you know that. This is a heavy duty coiled cable, it has a nice weather proof jacketing. The 7-way has a nice finger pulls on it which makes it easy to install and remove.

On the 6-way round what's nice, has a dust cover to protect it when you're not using it and even has this little wire clip that when you do use it and plug in your 6-way you can push this down and that will help hold the connection together so it doesn't pull apart. They do use tin plated terminals on both of the connectors for corrosion resistance. This coiled cable when it's fully stretched goes to about 3 feet in length and again this is for a 7-way RV blade on your vehicle to a 6-way round connector. Again this adapter will work on trailers where that center pin is used for the electric brake signal. That should do it for the review of part number HM 47085, the Hopkins heavy duty flex coil 7-way to 6-way round trailer connector adapter. .

  • Available Wiring Adapters to Join Vehicle 7-Way to Trailer 6-Way Round Connector
  • We offer several trailer wiring adapters that can convert a 7-way blade connector on the vehicle to a 6-way round pin connector on the trailer. You can see all of these on the linked page. These include solid adapters like # HM47570 as well as cabled types like # HM47053 and # HM47083. I recommend a cabled adapter since it will provide strain relief and make it easier to do the connections. You need to note that a 6-way can be configured in either of two ways. Please refer to the...

  • 7-Way Trailer Connector to 7-Way Trailer Connector Coiled Adapter
  • No, the 7-Way wire does not go from the 7-Way to the 6-Way on the Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47085. What I recommend is using # WG54006-043 which is a bit longer at 6 feet but it does have all 7-Way wires running all the way through and it is ready for a 7-Way connector. For a trailer side 7-Way use # 54-77-003. For a vehicle side 7-Way use # A10-7082VP.

  • 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter Recommendation for Truck with 6-Way
  • Based on what you described the correct adapter is the part # 47435 as this will plug into a 6-way on your truck and allow a 7-way from a trailer to plug into.

  • 7-Way Blade Style Extension for 1991 Jayco Trailer
  • I do have a 7-Way extension that you can use but # HM47085 will not work. You will need # C56080. It may be more length than you need at 7 feet long but it is a true 7-Way extension. The extra length could be held together with wire ties or you could cut it to the length needed and reattach the wires to the connector.

  • Recommended Parts to Make an 8 Foot Connection from Truck 7-Way to Truck Bed Camper 6-Way
  • For the connection, I believe you are looking for an extension like the Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 6-Pole Round - Center Pin Brake # HM47085, but an 8 foot length versus 3 foot. For this, you will need to create a cable using the Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable - Trailer End - 8' Long - RV Standard # H20046 and the 6 way # PK12720. I've attached an article to assist with the connections.

  • Available 7-Way to 6-Pole Wiring Adapters
  • We offer many types of wiring adapters that can be used to join a tow vehicle with one type of wiring to a trailer with another type. You can search all such items using the page I linked for you. Click on the type of vehicle connector you have (7-way blade-style, for instance) and one the type of trailer connector (6-pole) to then see all items that will work to join them, like Hopkins Endurance # HM47053 and # HM47085. Do note that 6-pole connectors can be configured in two ways;...

  • 7-Way to 6-Pole Trailer Connector Adapter for Horse Trailers
  • Most horse trailers have a 6-pole trailer connector. In order to attach the 6-pole trailer connector to your vehicle then you will want to use the Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter part # HM47083 if the center pin on your vehicle connector is for 12v power or part # HM47085 if the center pin on your vehicle connector is for the brake circuit. You will need a 7-way connector on your vehicle in order to activate the trailer brakes on your horse trailer. If you do not...

  • Recommended Adapter To Connect Motorhome To Towed Vehicle
  • If you have a 7-way connector on your motorhome and a 6-pole connector on your tow vehicle like part # RM-910030-7, then the coiled adapter I recommend is part # HM47085. This has easy grip connectors and has a 3-ft cable. I have attached a link to a product review video you can check out.

  • Recommended 7-Way To 6-Way Trailer Connection
  • For a 7-Way to 6-Way, I recommend the Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 6-Pole Round - Center Pin Brake # HM47085 or the Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 6-Pole Round - Center Pin 12V Power # HM47083. The difference between these adapters is where the functions are connected on the 6 way. You will want to make sure your trailer matches the functions correctly. I've attached an article to help. Most 6 way connections will have...

  • Replacement 6-Way to 7-Way Coiled RV Connector for Flat Towing
  • There is a standard wire color to function relation for trailer connectors which I have attached for you but you will want you test each of the wires with a circuit tester like part # ALL640595 to be sure you are making the correct connections. The 7-Way Round RV Style Trailer Connector part # A7WCB can be used to replace the 6-way on your coiled connector but a better option for you would be to replace the entire harness using the Hopkins Heavy-Duty Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter part...

  • 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter that Does Not Light Up
  • We do have similar 7-Way to 6-Way connectors that do not glow. You could use # HM47083 if you need 12 volt power on the center pin (on the 6-Way end). Or you could use # HM47085 if you need the center pin to pin for electric brake output. These items are much shorter than the Hopkins glowing adapter.

  • Availability of a 7-Way to 6-Pole Square Adapter for a 2008 Dodge Nitro
  • I am sorry but at this time a 7-Way to 6 Pole square adapter is not available. You do have 2 options though. You could rewire the trailer connector to a Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End, item # PK12706, using a circuit tester to verify each connection that needs to be made. You could also build your own adapter to go between your vehicle and trailer. Use the 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit (Car and Trailer Ends), item # 37995, and...

  • 7-Way Blade Style to 6-Way Round Trailer Connector Adapter
  • The magnetic tow lights # SPL30B-6 only have stop, tail, and turn signal functions so the 12 volt circuit and brake output circuit won't even be used. So basically it does not matter if the center pin on the adapter is brakes or power. Also, the 6-Way on the tow lights can be opened up so you can change around the wire configuration if needed. Extension # HM47083 is an excellent choice as is # HM47085. I have linked a video review of the latter.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes That Lock Up
  • If your trailer has electric drum brakes then a few things could cause them to lock up when they should not be applying at all. There could be a short somewhere in the wiring that is causing 12V power to reach the brake magnets. Bad corrosion inside a connector could cause two circuits to become bridged together. You could also have an issue with your breakaway system that is sending power to the brakes, such as a bad breakaway switch. Another possible cause is use of a wiring adapter...

  • 6-Way Fifth Wheel Trailer Connector for 2011 GMC Sierra
  • If your Sierra already has the 7-way connector installed in the bed, you can use an adapter to convert the 7-way to a 6-way. Hopkins makes a great heavy-duty adapter. If the center pin on the 6-way connector on the trailer carries the power to the trailer brakes, use part # HM47085. If the center pin is used for an auxiliary circuit, use part # HM47083. If you do not have the connector in the truck bed, I would recommend part # 50-97-410.

  • Connecting 7-Way on Tow Vehicle to 6-Way on Trailer
  • If you are just needing to connect the 7-Way on your tow vehicle to the 6-Way on your trailer, I recommend using the Hopkins 7-Way to 6-Pole Adapter # HM47085 or # HM47083. These two adapters differ only in what the center pin is used for. If the center pin on your trailer side connector is for the electric brake signal, you will use # HM47085. If the center pin on the trailer connector is for 12-volt power, you will instead use # HM47083. One end of the adapter will plug into the...

  • 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter Recommendation that Can Carry Charge Circuit to Tow Vehicle
  • Sounds like you are looking for a coiled adapter like part # HM47085 which will plug into the 7-way on your RV and has a 6-way on the other side which can carry the 12 volt power source needed to charge your tow vehicle that's using a supplemental braking system. As long as the circuit is active on your RV and you have the correct circuit on the 6-way of your towed vehicle ran to the positive post of your vehicle battery this will work well for you.
