Video Transcript for Hopkins Endurance RV Trailer Connector Installation - 2013 Tiffin Phaeton

Today on this 2013 Tiffin Phaeton Motorhome, we're going to review and install the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-Way RV and 4-Flat Trailer Connector, part number HM40950. Also, to help us with our install, we'll be using the Pollak Dodge and Chrysler OEM Plug Adapter, part number PK11933. This is what the Hopkins Endurance Connector looks like when it's installed on our motorhome. First off, it has an all black plastic construction. We'll take a look at the lid, which is kind of nice because a lot of them will open up to here and stop, this one goes all the way towards the back, a little bit past it at 180 degrees. Spring loaded, and it also has a seal on here to help protect it when it's not being used. It also has neat little finger-holes right here to help move it up.

It also has a little latch right here to hold this 7-Pole connector into place. We're going to take a typical 7-Pole connector, line it up and push it into place. It will be a tight fit. You can see how this will catch onto the 7-Pole connector so it can't come out. Take a look at the 7-Pole connector itself. This is going to be the most popular version, with the flat pins and a round pin in the center. All right, let's go ahead and take a look at the 4-Pole connector, which is on the bottom. The cap swing away completely out of the way as well.

And we have the four pins. Now, both of these connectors will work the industry standard 4-Pole and a 7-Pole connector. With this part number you'll get the 7-Pole connector, and the hardware included to install. Also, some dielectric grease, for your installation. We'll go ahead and show you how we installed it, next. Now, this is our preexisting OEM connector right here, which is perfectly fine. However, for new connector, we'll be able to upgrade by having our 7-Pole connector as well as a 4-Pole connector.

Remove the original one right here. Hardware will probably be a little bit different, but I'm using a 3/8ths wrench and a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the hardware. One down, three to go. Now, we need to pull this apart, at this connection point right here. There's a little red lock. We have to push this way to release it.

It's best off to use a screwdriver and kind of push it to the side. You can also get a flat-blade screwdriver up in there too. Then push down this tab right here. You may have to push it together first, then push down on this tab, and pull it apart. Now, here's our new adapter from Pollak, this will plug into OEM fitting right here. We'll push it together until it clicks. You may or may not here it click. Then push this lock back into place. Now, our kit also comes with dielectric grease for these connection points right here. Let's go ahead and just take some and spear it around the contacts, it doesn't take much. Align the two pieces together for the connector, carefully push it together until it clicks. Then this grey part's to lock, push that into place. Make sure it's secure and go ahead and put it into place. Our connector comes with new hardware as well, so we'll go ahead and take the bolts, push it through into the slot and into the appropriate hole on our bracket. On the backside we'll get the flat washer and lock washers on next, and then our nut. Repeat that hardware combination for the rest of the bolts. Now, we'll tighten down our hardware using a 3/8th socket. With that, our connect is installed and ready for use. That will finish it for the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-Way RV and 4-Flat Trailer Connector, part number HM40950 on this 2013 Tiffin Phaeton Motorhome.

Fits perfectly, however there are no fasteners for mounting included. 516479

Very happy with my choice of this brake controller. Full of features that make it worth the price. I especially like the ability to store 3 different trailer settings. This makes it easy to use when you tow several different trailers without having to manually change the brake settings. 422165

I installed this on a 2016 Ford Interceptor Utility PPV (police pursuit vehicle). The only challenge was modifying the mounting location on the factory hitch assembly to accommodate the larger housing. It works well as I used it the day I installed it, to tow a rental utility trailer and it worked perfectly. 494279

Product has worked well. I like the way the cover opens really wide so it's easy to line up the plug. I installed it on my F-350 on a Ranch Hand rear bumber. The four screw holes holes ranch hand drilled for the screws where slightly off from the holes in your product so I had to rotate connector CCW and drill and tap four new holes. 395697

Product is well made, but did not fit like I was led to believe it would. Had to modify the mount on the truck, but it was not too difficult. Someone without a shop would have a problem, fortunately I have a well equipped shop and the know how to modify just about anything put to me. But the part works well just like designed, really happy with the way it looks and all as well. 651115

Works fine and seems to be made well. Only issue is that the connector screw mounting holes do not match up to the OEM mounting bracket holes and requires drilling of the OEM mounting bracket to mount this connector. 629460

  • Adding 7-Way and 4-Way Connectors to a 2018 Toyota Tacoma Without the Tow Package
  • The best (and easiest) wiring kit that we have for your 2018 Toyota Tacoma (without the tow package) is the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness # 22117. This comes with everything needed to add a fully functioning 7-Way and 4-Way on your pickup. It connects your basic lighting functions with the T-Connectors that you mentioned and has the rest of the wiring bundled in a loom to make running them up to your cab/engine compartment much easier. This kit even comes with a pigtail...

  • The Tow Ready Replacement 7-Way Harness and Socket for Factory Tow Package # 20147 is a factory style pigtail that is compatible with the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End # HM40950. These factory style connectors are called US Car Connectors and they are absolutely compatible with each other as well as many others. • For a 7-way harness that will plug into the square trailer wiring connector of your 1999 Ford F-250. You would want the part # 118243 which is a confirmed fit. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. If you wanted to swap out the 7-way with one that includes a 4-way as well you could use the part # HM40950 to get both.

  • Troubleshooting Constant Power on Drivers Side Tail Light of Trailer Connector
  • It sounds like you have a crossed wire after the fuse panel. Sometimes this happens inside the trailer connector, so I recommend removing your trailer connector and using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test each of the wire functions at the US Car Connection locations like you see on this harness # 20147. If this connection works correctly then you will want to replace the 7-way connector on your vehicle because it has an internal issue. If this is the case, I recommend the Hopkins...

  • For your 2016 Nissan Frontier without a tow package, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118266. This will allow you to easily connect to your factory wiring and have a 7-way. If you only want the 4-way flat since you are using a small trailer, you can alternatively use the # 118525. Many with even small trailers prefer the 7-way but you can use an adapter like # 47345 or a 7-way with integrated 4-way flat like # HM40950. For the trailer hitch,...

I have linked videos on both parts for you. The Ford part is twice as much and you might still have to purchase from them the relays and fuses that are already included with # 118242.
