Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Trailer Connectors - HM40920 Review

Today we're going to review part number HM40920. This is the Hopkins endurance multi tow twist mount 7 way RV and 4 way flat trailer connector for the vehicle end. This is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC hummer vehicles starting in 1999. What I would recommend on a part that is a custom fit part that fits many vehicles is go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if this part will work for your application. Now this is a 7 blade RV style trailer connector. This will serve as a replacement for a damaged socket on your vehicle and it also can be added to a vehicle that has the factory tow package.

Also besides the 7 way, also underneath it has the 4 way flat trailer connector built in. To install this it's a very simple plug-in installation. Basically what you do is you insert this into your tow package port. Actually you'll insert it this way, you see these 2 tabs here Insert it into the port that way, twist it, and it'll lock into place and you're ready to go. It's a simple plug-in installation. There's no cutting, no splicing or wires, no tools needed to install it. It does give you enhanced weather-proofing.

Puts the internal seals right here, like on the lid here, it's corrosion resistant terminals on the inside and this durable ABI plastic lid with that seal will keep out dirt and moisture getting to the terminals. Has the rugged oversized hinge right here on top, allows the lid to open over 180 degrees for a simple connection. And again, on the bottom you notice, has the dust cover over the 4 way to protect it also. It does come with a 3 year limited warranty. And again just to install this, if you notice the taps here, you usually on the bumper of your vehicle you'll have a cap. Just pull that off and you'll have your factory tow package port there.

And again, just line this up, insert it in, twist it, it'll lock it into place and you'll be all ready to go. Now they do include some dielectric grease with this, so you want to put some of that on your terminals when you do your, before you do your connections. Put some in there, even on there. That'll help keep any from, any corrosion from building up on the terminals. But that should do it for the review on part number HM40920, the Hopkins endurance multi tow twist mount 7 way RV and 4 way flat trailer connector. .

I routinely tow a couple of different trailers. One has a 7 way connector, and another has a 4 way connector. I kept misplacing my 7 to 4 converter, so I purchased this as a direct replacement for my Yukon's factory connector. While it's nice to have the 7 way and 4 way there all the time, the plug fits a little bit loose in the factory socket. It should work fine, I just wish it fit in there tighter. 612193

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver And Wiring For A 2017 Cadillac XT5
  • For your 2017 Cadillac XT5, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2", # 76022. This will give you a very strong trailer hitch with a 2 inch opening for a ball mount or accessories. To install, you will need to remove the rear fascia door that covers the hitch, but it can be reinstalled when not towing with two bolts. Access holes may need to be enlarged by drilling, filing, or rotary tool. This installation is suggested to take 20 minutes for a professional...

However, if you install a 7-way harness like part # 118266 and replace the final connector with part # HM40920 you'll have exactly what you're trying to accomplish. Part # HM40920 has both a 4- and 7-way and plugs into the same port that the # 118266 wiring uses. If your adventure trailer has electric brakes then you also need a brake controller. I...

To install a 7-way trailer connector on your truck you need to first start by adding a 4-way if you don't already have one. I recommend using the Tekonsha part # 118496. It plugs in either behind the tail lights or along the truck's frame rail on both sides. Once the 4-way is installed, or if...
