Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - HM11147650 Review

Today we'll be taking a look at part number HM11147650, this is the Hopkins 12-volt Power Inverter Adaptor for a 7-way RV trailer connector. It's going to plug into the 7-blade trailer connector, it's located on your vehicle, and it's going to provide the leads, thats going to be the wiring to connect to a power inverter. Your inverter is sold separately if you dont already have one. This is going to allow you to convert DC to AC power for tailgating, camping, and other outdoor activities. You got your two wires here, one's going to be white, that's going to go to the negative lead on the inverter. The black one's going to go the positive lead on the inverter. This unit is designed for use with 12-volt DC systems.

It's going to feature the large easy plug design. It's got a pistol grip design, is what it's called. You get a nice secure grip on there and it's going to allow you to easily connect and disconnect as needed. The maximum current draw from the vehicle should not exceed 25 amps. This power inverter adaptor should only be used on a 12-volt DC system and the adaptor should be connected to the power inverter before plugging it in to the vehicles trailer connector. You do want to periodically start and run your vehicle to recharge the vehicles battery.

Some vehicles may require that the key be turned to the auxiliary or accessory position in the ignition in order to activate the circuit, so definitely keep that in mind. When I took a measurement of the length of wiring that we had, it measured about 54, 55-inches, right in that area. That's going to do it for today's review of part number HM11147650. .

I like this adapter for using my inveter, now I don't have to open the hood every time I want to use it. Would give it 5 stars if the leads were the same gauge as the charge circuit wires in the trailer plug on my truck. 339027

  • Parts Needed to Make 7-Way Wiring Inverter for Power Tools
  • What you can use is the part # HM11147650 to get the power and ground circuits from the 7-way and then use the inverter part # WC2600 to convert the 12 volt signal to a 120 volt receptacle like what you need to power your tools.

  • How to Charge a Boat Battery Using a Tow Vehicle
  • The Hopkins 12-Volt Power Inverter Adapter part # HM11147650 that you referenced is going to pull power for the vehicle's 7-way 12 volt circuit and may be sufficient to charge a four wheeler battery but would likely not charge a marine battery like the one on your boat. For this, you would need an actual battery charger that will use power produced from the vehicle's alternator, the CTEK D250S Dual Battery Charger part # CTEK40186. The 12 volt circuit on the 7-way is predominantly used...

  • What Wire Gauge is Used in the Hopkins 12-Volt Power Inverter Adapter for 7-Way Trailer Connectors
  • I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Hopkins 12-Volt Power Inverter Adapter # HM11147650. The copper wire is 12 gauge for both the power and ground wires. This is more than enough for the 25 amps this unit is rated for.

  • Hopkins 12-Volt Power Inverter Adapter for 7-Way, RV Trailer Connector Hopkins Wiring Code: HM111
  • The Hopkins 12-Volt Power Inverter Adapter for 7-Way, # HM11147650, is designed to wire a power inverter the will take the DC power from your vehicle's battery and turn it into AC power. You could use the plug to wire in a set of LED lights, like # ILL22CB. However, this will leave you with an extra plug connected to your trailer. If you already have a 7-way connector and plug on your vehicle and trailer, then you could run power off the 12-volt power line of the truck to operate your...

  • How to Charge an Extra Battery in the Truck Bed on My 2012 Chevrolet Silverado While Driving
  • The best option would be to use a charger like part # CTEK56158, and charge the battery when shore power is available, or use the charger in conjunction with an inverter part # WC3720 when the truck is running. If you wanted to use the factory 7-way you could use the 12-Volt Power Inverter Adapter, # HM11147650, to provide DC power to the inverter. If the DC outlet in your truck is ran directly off of the trucks charging system, then you could use it to maintain a battery that is fully...

  • Parts Needed to Have 7-Way Socket on Trailer for Powering Electric Tongue Jack
  • It sounds like your trailer has a 7-way RV-style plug like # H20044 that is taking 12V power from the auxiliary trailer feed to power your jack. This means the power for the jack is coming from the vehicle battery. If your trailer has a battery or two and you prefer to power the jack from these instead, all you'd need to do is install a 7-way socket like # 30717 on the trailer. You'll only need to make two wiring connection to have 12V battery power ready at the new socket. Connect...

  • Recommendations for Charging Auxiliary RV Batteries While Traveling
  • Let me begin by saying that the power provided from the 12-volt feed on the 7-way can be used to maintain a battery that's fully charged, but the output of the vehicle's charging system and the relatively small gauge 12 gauge wire that supplies the power feed to the 7-way means that you wouldn't be able to charge a discharged battery. Connecting the battery to the 12-volt feed from the 7-way would essentially be the same as connecting the inverter to the 12-volt feed, using the inverter...

  • How to Power An LED Light Bar with a 7-Way Trailer Connector
  • For starters, we do not carry the Nilight 6.5" Led Light Bar so I would not be able to provide installation instructions. You would need to contact the manufacturer for this and follow the instructions they list. However, according to my research this light draws around 36 watts which equates to around 3 amps so you could in theory use this with the Hopkins 12-Volt Power Inverter Adapter part # HM11147650. • Wiring and Battery Current Requirements for Electric Boat Winches
  • An electric winch will draw a substantial amount of power from its battery, usually a lot more than the 25-amp rating for the Hopkins 12-Volt Power Inverter Adapter # HM11147650 that you referenced. For instance, Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Marine Winch # DL25215 draws as much as 70-amps. Bulldog Electric Winch # BDW15020 draws as much as 340-amps at full load. This is why winches should always be wired with a dedicated battery connection using a heavy-gauge winch installation...
