Video Transcript for Hopkins Wiring - Wiring Adapters - 37175 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Hopkins Wiring Adapter. This adapter converts your vehicle from just a four pole flat to a six pole round and a four pole flat. It's going to provide additional wire leads for brake and for power. It's going to come with your mounting bracket and it's going to come with the necessary hardware to get that installed. This set of hardware over here, this is going to actually be to get the connector installed onto the bracket. This set of hardware right here would be to get the bracket installed onto the vehicle. You notice the wires that we have coming out the back here. We're going to have a red wire with a butt connector attached to it.

That's going to be for auxiliary or hot lead. That's the outside pin. You're going to have a blue wire with a butt connector on it, that's going to be for your electric trailer brakes. That's going to be a center pin connection, and then you're going to have a longer wire. This is your white wire.

It has a ring terminal attached to it and that's going to be for your ground. Now each lead, again it's going to have connectors on it that's going to make connecting very quick and easy. Please note that the white wire must be grounded to the vehicle frame. The other two wires can be tied up if they're not going to be used. You can wrap them up in tape and zip tie them to the frame so they're up and out of the way. Those are optional, but again they are pre-wired into the six pole connection, or the six pole connector in case your application needs to use those. Again red is going to be power lead or auxiliary, and blue is for your electric brakes.

It's also a good idea to use some grease on your connection points to help prevent corrosion. Right here on the connector you're going to have a flap that has a nice spring lid on it. It also has a seal on the inside so it's going to keep out dirt and moisture. That's fully opened so you can easily make your connection there for your six pole. Then on this side you're going to have a dust cap that's going to cover up the four-way connector. That's going to do it for today's look at the Hopkin's wiring adapter.

Again the adapter's going to convert your vehicle from just the four pole flat to a six pole round and a four pole flat connector.

Pulled our popup camper all over Michigan from Tawas to Drummond Island with no hickups with lighting. We also pull a smaller trailer with the four prong plug, also with no problems. Its nice that these plugs stay covered so as to not let salt/grime into plugins. Great products in my opinion. Had for just over one year with no problems at all. We had these installed by local reliable installers and wouldn't change anything. 657523

Great product that works well with the standard wiring harness for the car. This worked great with my 1963 Aloha trailer that uses the 6 pin configuration. 654729

This should have been an easy install, but it wasn't. There is nothing wrong with the part and should work well in most situations. However, in my situation, I installed the Curt Class III custom hitch which allows for keeping the full size spare tire. Unfortunately for installing this part, there was no room if the mounting bracket was used - the hitch was in the way. So, I drilled a hole through the bumper and installed it there. This took more time than the instructed install, but in the end it works great and there is no worry of wires rubbing or wearing through. See picture. 347691

fast shipping and products as described, great company will use in the future and have already told friends. 345953

Draw-Tite 75726 hitch fit perfectly and looks great. Instructions from manufacturer regarding 2013 Highlander driver's side splash panel removal and then not use: it was easy to cut an 8" longer slot in the splash panel and reinstall, which retains the bumper and fender integrity. The 37175 4 & 6 pole adapter is a clean look and very handy using the different trailer hookups. The 118449 T wire harness hookup is a no hassle, no brainer and works perfectly Etrailer will my business on my next vehicle needing towing equipment! 319468

the wiring works fine but the spring does not hold the cover closed on the 6 pole side. i tried bending the spring but when you open it up it re bends the spring. mine could have been a defect but would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the spring 316834

I installed this on an aftermarket replacement bumper I bought after someone collided with my factory bumper (thank you very much whoever you were). Just used some dielectric grease on the contacts, wrapped with electric tape, zip-tied to secure, and did a quick tap into the frame for the ground. 32596

Do you have a question about this Wiring?

  • Towing a Trailer with a 6-Pole Trailer Connector with a Vehicle That has a 4-Way Connector
  • Actually you need part # 37175. It plugs into your vehicle's existing 4-way and gives you a 6-way round. There are 3 extra wires; blue for trailer brakes, red for an auxiliary (usually 12 volt power), and a white for ground. The white wire needs to be grounded to the vehicle's frame from the connector to function. The other two can be capped off if you're not going to be use them. If you do need the other two wires the blue is run to the vehicle's cab and connected to the blue wire...

  • Installing a 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller on a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn
  • Luckily we have a kit that will provide you with everything that you will need to set up a 7-way connector at the back of your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn. I would recommend a 7-way connector over a 6-way because it will give you that additional pin for the reverse light circuit and you could always move down to a 6-way with an adapter. I recommend the 7 and 4-way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. The round portion of the 7-way connector in this kit will fit in the factory hole in your bumper,...

  • Brake Controller and 7-Way Trailer Connector For 1995 Chevy C/K 1500
  • As a first step, you would need to select a brake controller. I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. The P2 is extremely reliable and easy to use, which makes it one of our all-time best selling brake controllers. Most of the Chevy trucks of that era had a blue and an orange or red wire ran along the frame rail for installing the controller. At the rear of the vehicle, they usually terminate on the end of the drivers side frame rail or above the spare tire. In the engine...

  • How to Wire a Toyota Tundra with 4-Pole Connector to a Trailer with a 6-Pole Connector
  • It sounds to me like you have two running light wires on your trailer. The green and brown and yellow and brown wires are most likely right and left side running lights so both of these should most likely attach to the brown wire terminal which corresponds to the brown wire in the 4-Pole connector on your truck. This would mean that you only have 5 poles in the trailer connector that are used. These could be the left turn/brake, the right turn/brake, brown running lights, ground and electric...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2012 Toyota Tacoma

If it's a 7-way it will look like the second picture with the 6 "blades" around a single pin in the middle. Whichever one you have the easiest way to install the correct harness on your 2012 Toyota Tacoma is to start with a 4-way trailer connector. For the 4-way you can use # 118496. I would recommend a proportional controller, such as the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. The Prodigy is one of our best selling controllers, has been for years primarily because it works great and is very easy to use.
