Video Transcript for Fastenal Wiring - Tools for Wiring - 101131802 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at a self drilling hex screw. Now this screw works great for grounding a wiring harness to a trailer frame or vehicle frame. It has the hex head design, and this is a self tapping screw. So self tappers don't necessarily need a pilot hole, or a pre drilled hole in order to penetrate the surface that the screw is going into. You can tighten the screw using a quarter inch socket or a wrench. And this is a number eight by half inch long screw.

So that measurement, the half inch measurement, is taken from the bottom of the screw head to the very end of the screw, so that measure's a half inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the hex screw with the self tapping design, or self drilling design.

Ordered several towing and cargo products for a pending trip in 4 days! Great communication from the eTrailer team (George and Jamie) on delivery dates, etc. One product was not available in the warehouse, but eTrailer contacted the mfr and had them drop ship with express delivery to meet my timing needs. Really no effort on my part to get this great service -- just seems to be the way they operate. I keep ordering from them, and they keep exceeding expectations. Way to go! A+++ 207417

This was recommended in another comment by an etrailer employee to use to attach part # BK70BB - Trailer Light Mounting Bracket to the curt cargo carrier. These screws were way too small for that usage. I ended up using some 1/4 inch self-drilling screws that I had and added these to my stash. 191557

I agree with Rick, these screws DO NOT fit part BK70BB - Trailer Light Mounting Bracket

  • Plug-In Brake Controller Harness for a 2018 Toyota Tacoma
  • Yes, the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers part # 3031-P is a plug and play harness that will allow you to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 on your 2018 Toyota Tacoma without any cutting or splicing. You will however need to ground the white wire to a bare metal surface with a self-tapping screw like part # 101131802.

  • Brake Controller and Plug and Play Harness for 2018 Toyota Tacoma With Factory Tow Package
  • The Prodigy P3 # 90195 will work with your 2018 Toyota Tacoma's factory 7-way with Wiring Adapter # 3031-P. All you need to do is plug one end into the P3 and the other end into the port underneath your Tacoma's dash; you will need to ground the white wire of the adapter to a bare metal surface using a self-tapping screw such as # 101131802.

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring For 1995 Ranger 690T Boat Trailer
  • I did some research and found that your boat is 18-ft 9-inches long. You did not say if your trailer has brakes included which will make a difference when installing the wiring. If you do not have brakes on the trailer and you only need wiring for the lights I recommend part # A35W42B. This is a 35-ft long harness and it has a 4-way flat trailer connector included. This is a wishbone harness that means the running light is split at the connector and the brown running light wire is run...

  • Installation of Ground Wire on Tekonsha Plug in Wiring Adapter for 2006 Toyota 4Runner
  • The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Toyota and Lexus # 3040-P does have the separate white ground wire with ring terminal. It is to be connected to a bolt that connects to a bare metal surface. You may want to simply use a sheet metal screw like # 101131802. I've attached a couple videos to assist.

  • Lights And Accessories for Using Curt # C18153 Cargo Carrier on 2014 Chevy Suburban
  • The only difference between the two anti-rattle hitch locks you referenced is that the # 63232 is for 2 inch receivers and the # SHP2040-XL is for 2-1/2 inch receivers. Since your Suburban has the 2 inch receiver, you'd need the # 63232. If the 4 pole on your Suburban is fixed in place on the bumper, I'd recommend the # 9653P extension. The Curt # C18153 you're referring to isn't specifically designed for a light kit, so they're aren't any pre-drilled holes on the carrier to mount...

  • Installing a Brake Controller in 2001 Toyota Tacoma
  • Based on my research, the 2001 Toyota Tacoma did not come with a factory trailer connector. However, since you already have a 4-way connector installed on your truck, you will be able to start here for your brake controller installation. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. This is a proportional brake controller with a digital display. It will level automatically when mounted within a 360-degree vertical range. The brake controller installs in your...

  • Adding a Light Kit Compatible with Most Hitch Mounted Cargo Carriers
  • The Light Kit for Draw-Tite, Tow Ready, and Rola Railed Cargo Carriers # 20174 is a great option to add to a cargo carrier. To use it on the Curt cargo carrier # C18145 you referenced, you would simply need to add the Replacement Oval Mounting Bracket for Light Kit # 106873 with self tapping screws like # 101131802.

  • Though there is not a kit with everything but the Hopkins # 37185, we can get you everything you need from the # ETBC7 so you won't have to spend money on a part you don't need. Start with Wiring Kit # 5506, which has 25' of wire, 20, 30 and 40 amp circuit breakers, butt connectors and ring terminals. You'll also want a pair of Quick Splice Wire Connectors # SWC501746-1, four self-tapping screws # 101131802 and one larger self-tapping screw # FA1131822. Next you'll need a circuit tester,...

  • How to Connect the Ground Wire on a 4-Way Flat Wiring Harness
  • The Hopkins Endurance 4-way Flat Trailer End Connector, # HM48110, that you referenced is the harness that goes on a trailer, not a vehicle. The 4-way connector for your vehicle is the Hopkins Endurance 4-Way Flat Vehicle End Connector, # HM48030. You can connect the white ground wire from the wiring harness to a vehicle ground, but you should verify that the white wire on your vehicle is in fact a ground wire. In most cases the white wire from the wiring harness is attached to a clean,...

  • Recommended 2 Wire LED Marker Lights for 2015 Four Winds Siesta RV
  • For your 2015 Four Winds Siesta RV, I recommend the Rectangular LED Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light with Reflex Reflector- Amber # MCL32ABB and Red # MCL32RBB. These are both 2 wire LED lights that will allow you to add marker lights to your current system without issue. You can simply splice these into your current wiring to add the additional lights you desire. For connection, I recommend # 16-1-1 wire and butt connectors # 45330.

  • Recommended Self-Tapping Mounting Screw for Hopkins Bubble Level Mounting on Fiberglass Camper Shell

  • Trailer Tail Lights Pulsate When Running Lights Are Activated
  • The issue you are having with your lights pulsating is because of a bad ground. This usually happens when multiple signals are applied at the same time because the increased power draw then becomes too much for the ground to handle. In order to fix this issue I recommend using a junction box like part # 38656. Once you have this installed you can then run the grounds for all of your lights and the trailer connector to the ground terminal inside the junction box, then to a single point on...

  • Can 2 LED Domed Utility/Multipurpose Lights Light Up a 24 Foot Box Truck
  • The utility light # ILL24CB has 36 diodes so it will be on the bright side. Two of them will probably provide a decent amount of light but 3 would be better especially if light is essential. Attaching the lights to the ceiling using a high grade automotive type of double-sided tape would suffice. What I recommend is to use self-taping screws, like # 101131802, so you will not have to drill and then just seal the holes with a sealant like # L0150811. It would be best to attach screws...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Connection Wiring on 2013 Chevrolet Silverado
  • It sounds like you are having an issue with the ground on your 7-way trailer connection. The first thing to do is use a little sand paper or steel wool and clean the connections of your 7-way. Then add some dielectric grease # 11755 to keep the connections clean and free of moisture. If that doesn't solve your ground connection, then you will simply trace the wire harness from the back side of your 7-way to find where it is physically connected to the truck frame. The white wire in...

  • How to Make Ground Connection for LED Lights Installed in Van
  • Vehicle and trailer lights often use a white wire for ground, while other lights might use their mounting studs or mounting base to establish the ground. These lights could have only one wire, the hot lead, since the ground is made by the hardware that installs it. If your light has two leads, black and white, the white wire is most likely the ground. This can be attached to metal framework if available or you can run a ground jumper wire to a suitable metal surface to ground it. Since...

Because of this I would instead recommend you go with the Tow Ready # 119190KIT. The Tow Ready kit also comes with a circuit tester, (5) quick splice wiring adapters, and has a slightly higher amp capacity over the Hopkins harness. To adapt a 4-way to a 7-way, I would recommend the universal...

We also have an LED kit, # TLL9RK. Step 1 - The trailer connector should extend 2 - 3 feet past the tongue.
