Video Transcript for Fastenal Wiring - Tools for Wiring - 101131802 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at a self drilling hex screw. Now this screw works great for grounding a wiring harness to a trailer frame or vehicle frame. It has the hex head design, and this is a self tapping screw. So self tappers don't necessarily need a pilot hole, or a pre drilled hole in order to penetrate the surface that the screw is going into. You can tighten the screw using a quarter inch socket or a wrench. And this is a number eight by half inch long screw.

So that measurement, the half inch measurement, is taken from the bottom of the screw head to the very end of the screw, so that measure's a half inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the hex screw with the self tapping design, or self drilling design.

Products arrived quickly and were exactly what we ordered for rewiring our trailer as follows: 35 ft 4-way trailer wiring harness with 42" ground wire; metal loom clamps; wire loom and hex screws with wash heads. This company has a very good selection with good prices and economy shipping. 153114

Ordered several towing and cargo products for a pending trip in 4 days! Great communication from the eTrailer team (George and Jamie) on delivery dates, etc. One product was not available in the warehouse, but eTrailer contacted the mfr and had them drop ship with express delivery to meet my timing needs. Really no effort on my part to get this great service -- just seems to be the way they operate. I keep ordering from them, and they keep exceeding expectations. Way to go! A+++ 207417

This was recommended in another comment by an etrailer employee to use to attach part # BK70BB - Trailer Light Mounting Bracket to the curt cargo carrier. These screws were way too small for that usage. I ended up using some 1/4 inch self-drilling screws that I had and added these to my stash. 191557

I agree with Rick, these screws DO NOT fit part BK70BB - Trailer Light Mounting Bracket

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Connection Wiring on 2013 Chevrolet Silverado
It sounds like you are having an issue with the ground on your 7-way trailer connection. The first thing to do is use a little sand paper or steel wool and clean the connections of your 7-way. Then add some dielectric grease # 11755 to keep the connections clean and free of moisture. If that doesn't solve your ground connection, then you will simply trace the wire harness from the back side of your 7-way to find where it is physically connected to the truck frame. The white wire in...

  • Left and Right Turn Signal Blink at the Same Time and Reverse Light does Not Come On
It does sound like you have a poor ground on the trailer wiring. That is the most common reason for lighting to act erratically like you described. The ground of your trailer wiring needs to be attached to a clean bare metal surface of your vehicle. The circuit tester will still show power on the functions because it has power but if the ground is bad the functions will still not work correctly. If you give me more information about your situation, like your year make and model and what...

  • Both Turn Signals Flash at The Same Time
The cause of both turn signal lights flashing together would almost certainly be attributed to a poor ground. There are several grounds you will want to check which include one for each light, the trailer side trailer connector and the vehicle side trailer connector. One of these locations will more than likely contain the problem you are experiencing. It is important to make sure each ground is attached to a bare metal surface. It may be necessary to undo the ground wire and then use some...

Yes, the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers part # 3031-P is a plug and play harness that will allow you to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 on your 2018 Toyota Tacoma without any cutting or splicing. You will however need to ground the white wire to a bare metal surface with a self-tapping screw like part # 101131802.

  • Will the 1/2 Inch Metal Loom Clamps Work On a 5/16 Inch Frame Rail
Yes, the Metal Loom Clamp part # A0500 will work on a trailer frame that is 5/16" thick. The Metal Loom Clamp will actually work on pretty much any frame thickness but you will need to make note of the size screw used. I recommend the Hex Screw part # 101131802 for a 5/16" thick frame as it is 1/2" long. The Wire Loom part # 459075 can then be added to protect your wiring. I have attached a list of our other wiring accessories for you below as well.

If you wanted to add a light kit to the Thule EasyFold XT part # TH903202 there's a way I can help but we don't have a custom fit light kit for this rack. So what you could use is the part # 20174 with the mounting brackets # 106873 and you'd be able to attach everything. You'd have to drill into the body of the rack with screws like the self-tappers # 101131802.

The Curt Trailer Connector Adapter part # C57672 can certainly be used to install a 7-Way on the 2008 BMW X5 to use the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller part # C51180 instead of the kit part #ETBC7L. I recommend to use the Curt trailer connector part # C57672 and the Power Wire Kit for Electric Trailer Brake Controllers part # BRK-ELECKIT because it has a shorter amount (10 feet) of 12 gauge wire since your battery is in rear cargo area. This kit also comes with all of the components...

However, since you already have a 4-way connector installed on your truck, you will be able to start here for your brake controller installation. • Lights And Accessories for Using Curt # C18153 Cargo Carrier on 2014 Chevy Suburban
The only difference between the two anti-rattle hitch locks you referenced is that the # 63232 is for 2 inch receivers and the # SHP2040-XL is for 2-1/2 inch receivers. Since your Suburban has the 2 inch receiver, you'd need the # 63232. If the 4 pole on your Suburban is fixed in place on the bumper, I'd recommend the # 9653P extension. The Curt # C18153 you're referring to isn't specifically designed for a light kit, so they're aren't any pre-drilled holes on the carrier to mount...
