Video Transcript for Curt Wiring - Trailer Connectors - C58044 Review

Today we're going to review part number C58044. This is the Curt vehicle wiring harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector. This part does come with these quick splice connectors also. This a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle, this is the vehicle end. Powers your trailer's signal lights, it has a nice rubber molded connector and it uses a bonded wire to provide maximum durability. It is a very simple installation. As you can see right here on this end it has the pigtails.

Basically it's hard wired to your existing wiring. You just include these quick splice connectors for easy splicing of these wires. They do give you three of them for three wires, the white wire is a ground so that you do have to connect to a good clean ground. Again the application on this is for vehicles with the two wire lighting systems. The length of this wiring is 60 inches. The wire gauge that they use in them is 14 gauge and the configuration basically if you'll notice the green wire is the right turn and brake lights, the yellow is the left turn and brake lights, the brown is the tail lights and the white is the ground, which is the standard wire colors in a 4-way. That should do it for the review on part number C58044.

This is the Curt vehicle wiring harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector. .

Ran this from the front of the 5th wheel and back so I could pull my other trailer. Another job well done...... Thanks

Harness is still like brand new. The cover cap keeps the contacts nice and clean when not in use. Would buy again anytime.

Hitch delivered quickly. The packaging is excellent. The condition of the hitch is new. The fixing kit, bolts and nuts correspond to the hitch. The video on the site was of great help in installing the hitch. I would like to have a video on the site how to connect the wires, but it's not difficult for an electrician. Problems with the installation of hitches on the car did not arise.

Comments
This Curt 4 pole part C58044 is a hardwire installation. I have attached a video of the hardwire installation for part # 18252 on a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. It is a different part number but the same installation. Although, I do recommend part # 56076 custom fit plug and play wiring harness for this vehicle. The plug and play option is a much easier installation.

Wire harness works fine but had no instructions, not even a identifier for which color wire does what. No ring terminal included for the ground wire. I think an end cap should be included on the harness due to the fact that there is power at the plug end any time the vehicles lights are operating. I ordered connector cover 20112, fits well on this harness.

Comments
The 4 pole trailer connector part # C58044 is designed with a green wire, yellow wire, brown wire and white wire. The green wire wires into the right turn wire of the vehicles wiring harness. The yellow wires into the left turn signal of the vehicles wiring harness. The brown wire wires into the tail light signal. The white is the ground wire that needs to be grounded to a clean bare metal surface on the vehicle. A ring terminal that accepts 14 gauge wire such as part # DW05737-1 can be used to ground the white wire. If you would like an end cap on the 4 pole connector I recommend part # 20112 by tow ready to protect the end of the connector. I have also attached a wiring help article to assist with the installation.

Will all I can say is it's a well-built good-looking product. It was very easy to install. And easy to wire it up.follow the instructions that you get am 71 years old and I did it All in 45 minutes. When I was ordering this product customer service went out of their way to help me in any way they could. I would recommend this company to anyone they are very pleasant people to do business with.and the shipping was right on time

- C58044
by:

I'll start by saying this arrived with my hitch in just a couple of days. It installed easily, as I have experience with wiring. It's high quality, and well made. I did not use the provided clamps that came with the wiring kit. I've found that splicing and soldering the connections with heat shrink tubing for protection is the best method.

- C58044
by:

Simple wiring to solve simple issue. Works well

- C58044
by:

This attached very easily to my tail light wires. When not towing, I just shut it up in my trunk, and when I need to pull, I open the trunk and pull them out. I was very skeptical when I got the kit and saw the instructions, but it worked!

Description of product should in bold letters describe that this is not for the trailer but instead for the vehicle. Product is of no use to me.

Thanks for posting that. I was wondering the same thing. I need the other end, for the trailer to tow with my truck.

This is a standard flat connector for attaching to a trailer. I don't have it installed yet, but it looks like it will work perfectly. The cable is long enough to connect to both rear lights.

Comments
I finally got it installed. My 87 Jeep has had the wiring modified several times in its life so nothing was as it was supposed to be. I finally got all of the previous mistakes unwired, returned it to normal and then added the connection for the trailer. It was easy to install and worked perfectly. I like it and use it all the time.

For your 2015 BMW X5, I recommend the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter Kit with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56190KIT. You can use the attached video to assist. You can route the connector down through panels or grommets to the hitch location. I recommend using a mounting bracket like # 18144. The s8sla trailer coupling preparation from what I can find means wires may be run but at not completed. I recommend using the above kit to avoid any issues and give you what you need.
