Video Transcript for Bargman Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 50-61-104 Review

Today we're going to review part number 50-61-104. This is the Bargman 6-way Molded Connector with Cable. This is for the trailer end. Now, this 6-way heavy duty series trailer and connector right here is all molded to this heavy duty 6-way insulated cable with the 4-feet wire length. The wires on the inside of the cable, all 6 of them are 14-gauge size. Now, this connector and the cable feature encapsulated terminals and wires to form one weather resistant and noncorrosive assembly. The molded connector you can see here has the nice finger poles that make it easy to install and remove.

This can be used with the thermoplastic or metal 6-way car end connectors. That should do it for the review on part number 50-61-104. This is the Bargman 6-way Molded Connector with 4-foot of cable for the trailer end. .

Ask the Experts about this Bargman Wiring

  • Trailer Side 6-Way Connector that Does Not Use Center Pin for Brake
A 6-Pole round trailer connector like the Bargman # 50-61-104 can actually be wired one of two ways. The center pin on the connector can be used as either the 12 volt hot lead, or as the brake. Using the center pole as the 12 volt hot lead is actually the more common method. When the center pin is used in the manner, the top right pin location will be for the brake wire. I have attached an image with the functions labeled that you might find helpful.

  • How to Properly Install Wiring for a 6-Way on a Trailer
To accurately determine what wire is for what function on your trailer side 6-Way, like part # 50-61-104, you will need to use a 12V power source and test each wire to see what it does. You can use the battery off of your tow vehicle and simple ground the negative terminal to your trailer and then connect the positive terminal to each wire one at a time. You will then want to make sure that your trailer is wired in a way that matches the functions on your tow vehicle. You can test those...

  • What Gauge Wiring For 16 Foot Gooseneck Horse Trailer?
Using the 6-Way Molded Connector w/ Cable - Trailer End # 50-61-104 and a junction box like # 38656 is a wise start. I recommend using the Ring Terminal - 12-10 Gauge Wire - 3/16" Ring ID # 44-5310A for this fit. For your brake wiring, I recommend using 10 gauge wire # 10-2-1. For your tail lights, running lights and interior lights you can use 16 gauge wire like the Bonded 4 Wire - per foot # 16-4B-1 or single wire # DW02359-1.

  • At Least 3 Foot Long 6-Round to 6-Square Trailer Adapter
I have an option for you but we don't carry a longer version of the Hopkins 6-round to 6-square adapter, part # HM47415. Instead you can make your own. Use Hopkins part # 37995 which has both sides of the 6-square and wire the end you need to the Bargman 6-round # 50-61-104. The Bargman is 4 feet long and the Hopkins is just under 12 inches so this will be plenty long enough for you.

  • Wiring Adapter for 6-Way Round Connector to 6-Way Square Jayco Trailer Connector
The only 6-Way square to 6-Way round wiring adapter that we offer is the Hopkins Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47415. However, this adapter only measures 10 inches long overall. These square connectors are popular on older Jayco trailers, but are not common in the industry so there are very few adapters made for this style connector. For an adapter that measures 24 inches, you will want to use a 6-Way Square Connector # 37995 wired to a 6-Way Round Connector with Cable # 50-61-104....

  • 6 Prong Square on Jayco Trailer to 4 Prong Flat Wiring Color Scheme
The wiring colors codes for the Jayco style 6-Way connector are not readily available. I can tell you that the following colors have worked out on a Jayco trailer before. Yellow - Not determined, Green - tail light, White - ground, Red - left turn and brake, Black - not determined and Brown -right turn and brake The leftover yellow and black wires would be used for auxillary power and backup lighting or trailer brake power, whichever is needed. You would need to use a circuit tester,...

For your 1998 Chevrolet C/K-Series 1500, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # 118315. This harness plugs directly into existing wiring with no splicing to cutting required. This will give you a 4-way connector. If you want to add a 7 way trailer connection, then I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires, # ETBC7. This will give you all the connectors, circuit breakers,...

  • How to Determine Trailer Wiring Functions to Allow Installation of 6-Way Plug
I can help you with your trailer wiring. The first thing to do is to confirm the function carried on each of the trailer's wires/circuits. This is easy enough to do with a spare 12V battery (or the one in your vehicle). What you want to do is connect 12V power to each wire, one at a time. Typically white wires are ground so connect the white wire to the battery negative post. You may be able to rtace the wires and find the one that attaches to the trailer frame as ground. Then connect...

  • Adding Brakes to One Axle on a 16 Foot Parker Trailer
The general rule when adding brakes to a tandem axle trailer is that if the trailer has torsion axles then the brakes should go on the front axle. If the trailer has straight axles with leaf springs then they go on the rear axle. The 5 on 5 bolt pattern is not all that common. I recommend double checking just to be on the safe side. I have included a link that explains measuring bolt patterns. If you do have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern then they are likely 3500 pound axles that use L68149...

  • Recommendations for Trailer End 6-Way Round Pin Connector
Pollak 6-Pole, Round Pin, Plastic Trailer Wiring Socket w/ Rubber Boot - Vehicle End Item # PK12720 is the vehicle side 6-Way round connector. For the trailer side you would need Hopkins Endurance 6-Way Trailer Connector - Trailer End - Ergonomic Design - w/ Holder # HM48440. Or you could get one with wiring # 50-61-104. And a third option is to get the vehicle AND trailer ends together using # RM-910030-6. I have linked videos on all 3 parts for you.

  • Parts Needed to Tow Two Different Vehicles on a Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes
Neither of the tow dollies we carry are going to fit both of your vehicles completely. The closest is the Roadmaster # RM-2050-1. It has size ST205/75 R14 radial tires and electric brakes. However, it will only accommodate vehicles up to 77 inches wide at the wheels and wheels that are 12 to 16 inches in diameter. We do carry larger wheel nets like the Erickson # EM58518 which will fit between 14 to 29 inch wheels. The tow dolly has electric brakes but only has a 4-way trailer connector....

  • Interior Trailer Lighting Not Working on a Feather Light Gooseneck Trailer with 6-Way Connector
Blowing a fuse is usually the result of a direct short somewhere. Since you are not blowing the fuse after you plug in the trailer connector, it leads me to believe that you have a short that is making connection when you are plugging the connector in and is not shorted when the plug is not being pushed into the socket. I would try investigating both of the connectors and make sure that all of the wiring is secure and there are no wires bare inside the connectors that can be touched together...

I went out to the warehouse and grabbed one of the 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connectors, item # 37995, and all of the wires are the same 18 gauge wires. I agree with you that a larger wire would be the best way to go for installation of a power wire to a trailer. The 18 gauge wiring is used to match the trailer wiring these connectors are installed on. I would change the trailer connector to match my vehicle by using a 6-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, item # 50-61-104, or a 7-Way...
