Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Products Weight Distribution UF35-946204 Review

Today, we'll be reviewing part number UF35-946204. This is the Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems. You can attach this sway control device to your weight distribution system or your ball mount to help prevent any trailer sway. The friction-style control is going to provide resistance to correct sway and keep your trailer in line. In between this silver portion here are two friction pads. When you have the lever disengaged, you can see here that it's going to reduce or it's going to implement less resistance.

Thats actually going to be able to slide out and go back in as necessary. You can tighten or loosen those up. This does let you adjust the tension for the perfect amount to control resistance so you're going to have the tension adjustment screw that easily turns in 1/4-inch increments. It's going to help you fine tune the system. Then right up here, you're going to have the built in lever thats going to let you disengage the system to completely release the tension if needed. This will work with either weight distribution system or ball mounts that has sway control platforms.

This does not work with surge-type couplers. Installs and removes very quickly and easily. It's just going to attach to either side of the trailer tow and it's going to remove with just two clips. You do have to install this portion right here under the frame of your trailer. It's got six mount holes on it as well as six bolts and some washers. They're going to dig into the surface for a nice solid connection.

Then it's got the two oversize clips. This ball is going to mount to the head of the weight distribution system. It's going to fit right in this portion here. You're going to attach that using one of the clips in the spot. You just want to secure that in place and then back here, you're going to have this portion mounted to the frame of your trailer and this back socket is what's going to fit in that portion there and again, you're just going to install the pin on the side here in the openings and it's going to go right against the shank of the ball and it's going to hold that in place. It's a very simple installation, very easy to do.

You can actually use the mounting plate as a template to mark out the holes to drill. The mounting plate itself is going to give us a measurement from edge to edge of 6 inches by 3 inches. It's really not going to take up that much space on the frame of your trailer. Again, you're going to get all the mounting hardware that you need to get this installed. It does include the ball and the plate assembly, the sway control bar and again, all the necessary hardware and fasteners to get it installed. If you need a sway control tab, thats going to be sold separately. This is constructed of a powder coated steel for durability and corrosion resistance. Please keep in mind that it is recommended that you remove the friction-style sway control before backing up. Thats going to help ease reversing and prevent damage to your system. When you choose to tow during slippery conditions such as wet, icy or snow-covered roads or loose gravel, you want to be sure to turn the on and off handle counterclockwise until all tension is removed from the unit. Failure to do that could possibly prevent the tow vehicle and trailer from turning properly. The friction style sway control devices are designed to reduce trailer sway after it's already began. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads on the inside of the unit, these are what I showed right at the beginning of the video. They're going to touch one another and create just enough resistance to prevent and further side to side movement. It's a great system to have in place. It's really going to help reduce the amount of sway that you experience. That's going to do it for today's review of part number Uf35-946204. This is the Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems. .

Product works well, however install was very difficult. It had 6 "self tapping" screws. The problem is they will not self tap. I drilled holes exactly the size recommended. The screws would never bite. I finally had to go and purchase a tap set. Several hours later, I got it mounted. Works well now but a 30 minute job took 4 hours. 190058

Installation was a snap! the hardest part was welding the adapter plate to the receiver! It works perfectly! No more trailer jumping around and sway all over the place! Thank you. This is a must have for your trailer if you do a lot of hauling! 50577

Do you have a question about this Weight Distribution?

  • Trailer Ball Height to Increase Tongue Weight to Help with Sway Control on a Single Axle Fish House
  • You should have the hitch ball height set so that the trailer tows as level as possible behind your pickup. If there is a setting that goes between slightly higher than level and slightly lower than level, opt for the slightly lower setting, when the trailer is sitting on the trailer ball. An increase in tongue weight will most likely help with your sway situation. Adding weight in front of the trailer axles would be the best way to increase the tongue weight, just make sure you stay...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution/Sway Control System for 3500-lb Camper Trailer
  • Apart from the white-knuckle sway effects from sudden wind gusts and air blasts from passing semi trucks, there are some other basic considerations to help you decide if and when you need a sway control system for your trailer set-up. The linked article on weight distribution/sway control (WD/SC) systems may help you on this point. Although we do offer basic friction style sway control devices like # UF35-946204 and # 17200 that can help counteract trailer sway these are not going to...

  • How To Minimize Trailer Sway While Towing
  • It sounds to me like you are experiencing trailer sway. Although the Timbren springs are an excellent suspension enhancement option, they are not the best option to eliminate trailer sway or stability, but they will help increase the stability of your truck while under load. The Timbren springs are a great addition when experiencing vehicle sag however, for trailer sway and stability, I recommend using a sway control bar such as the Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control part # UF35-946204....

  • Bolt Hole Pattern of the Mounting Plate of Ultra Fab Friction Sway Control
  • I went and grabbed a Ultra-Fab Friction Sway Control # UF35-946204 from our warehouse to measure the distances between all of the mounting hole brackets and found them to be 2-5/16 inches apart vertically, 3-1/8 inches apart for the wider set apart holes, and 2-1/2 inches apart between the closer of the two holes. This is different than what the Reese friction sway control uses # RP26660.

  • What is the Weight Capacity for Sway Control Units Like the Ultra-Fab # UF35-946204
  • Our manufacturers, like Ultra-Fab, now make the same unit for all trailers but state that one friction-style sway control unit can be used for trailers with up to 6,000 lb GTW. If your trailer's GTW is between 6,000 lbs and 10,000 lbs or if your trailer is 26 ft or longer, you will need two sway control units. I have included an article for you. • Can Friction Bar Sway Control be Used with a Valley Weight Distribution System
  • Friction sway bars like # UF35-946204 work independently of a weight distribution system. With that said as long as your Valley system has a small hole on the head for the small ball then you can use this sway bar. The sway bar type sway control are generally not restricted to any one system as long as that system is set up to accept the small ball. I included a picture pointing out the small hole on a head.

  • The biggest difference between the Pro Series friction sway control unit part # 83660 that is on the lower end of the price spectrum and the Reese # RP26660 is that the Reese has a limited lifetime warranty and the Pro Series has only a 10 year warranty. The Ultra Fab part # UF35-946204 has a 3 year warranty and the Curt # 17200 has a 1 year warranty.

  • Trailer sway can be caused by crosswinds, or having a trailer loaded improperly, or large passing trucks. taking a short, 160 mile trip as you stated, you may want to check it out before investing money in a system. With having the majority of the things you are taking loaded in the truck bed, you may not have a big problem with trailer sway. • Recommended Sway Control for Trailer Over 12,000-lbs
  • Independent friction-style trailer sway control systems like the Ultra-Fab # UF35-946204 can help with trailer sway in lighter trailers, and two of them can be used with trailers up to about 10K and 26-feet or more in length. For a trailer over 10,000-lbs you will need a dependent (or built-in) type sway control that works with a weight distribution system. Friction units simply cannot deal with sway in trailers over that weight. The key to selecting a weight distribution/sway control...

  • Based on the dimension you listed none of our sway control systems would bolt to your trailer, BUT you could still weld the bracket to your trailer or you could use a system like the part # UF35-946204 on the opposite side of the trailer since it wouldn't have holes drilled on that side.
