Pro Series Weight Distribution diagram

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Unique Features of Pro Series Round-Bar Weight Distribution

Pro Series Weight Distribution adjustable head from top and side

To adjust your weight distribution head assembly to the correct angle, insert the included rivet and up to 8 washers into a 1/2-inch hole in the "U" on your head assembly. Use the smallest number of washers necessary to achieve the correct downward angle for the spring bars. Each washer lowers the chain ends of your spring bars by approximately 1-1/2 inches. Once the correct angle is reached, use the included bolts, serrated washers and nuts to lock the unit into place.

Pro Series Weight Distribution round spring bar locking devices

The round spring bars of this system slide up into the weight distribution head and are secured with built-in, spring-bar locking devices for quick, easy installation. With a tapered design and forged steel construction, these bars flex to ensure a smooth, controlled ride for both your tow vehicle and your trailer.

Friction Sway Control

Pro Series Weight Distribution friction sway control installation on trailer frame

Pro Series Weight Distribution friction sway control installation on hitch head

The integrated friction-style sway control of the Pro Series system reduces trailer sway caused by winds, winding roads and sudden maneuvers. As soon as your trailer begins to move out of line, the friction pads inside the unit touch one another and create resistance to help prevent further side-to-side movement. To install, simply bolt the sway-control ball plate to the A-frame of your trailer and attach the other end to the included ball, which mounts on the head of your weight distribution hitch - drilling required. The ball plate mounts to the side of the trailer frame so it will not interfere with gas tanks, toolboxes or generators.

When shopping on the web just before Christmas you will learn patience. My order got one step from being delivered and was damaged. So they sent it back to the place of purchase. I called etrailer and the representative was very understanding and shipped another one out the very next day. This one was held up in transit for a week and a half but it did arrive to my house safely. I installed it on my truck and it is working perfectly, it only took about an hour and a half to do it by myself. My truck was sagging 2 inches when I hooked my RV to it, now it rises 3/4 of an inch. Thank you etrailer for the quality of the product and the low price. I pray that y‘all will have a blessed day! 459142

  • Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 9,000 Pound Trailer and 2000 Ford Excursion
  • Pro Series Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 750 lbs TW # PS49902 is very much under rated for the tongue weight of your trailer. Considering that your measured tongue weight is 1,044 without water and other things even the 1,200 pound system # PS49904 might not be enough once loaded and ready to tow. I recommend going to a 1,500 pound system such as Curt Weight Distribution System # C17333. The only other part needed is a ball. The ball you...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2018 Coachmen Freedom Express
  • When a particular weight distribution system, such as the Pro Series # PS49904 referenced in your question, does not allow backing up, this is because of the friction bar design on the unit. These systems use a friction bar for sway control that works absolutely fine when driving forward, but is simply not designed for accepting the force of going in reverse. Keep in mind that backing up in an absolute straight line is okay, but you cannot turn at all when backing up. As far as their...

  • Weight Distribution System Needed to Pull a 6,615 lb Trailer with a Ford F-150
  • There are a few variables that need to be added together to determine the correct weight distribution (WD) system for any towing setup. First of all you need to find the tongue weight (TW) of your loaded trailer. When loaded properly, the TW of a trailer should be 10-15% of the loaded weight of the trailer. You can find this with a TW scale like part # 5780 or one of the methods in the linked article. Once your loaded TW is known you then need to add the weight of any cargo that will...

  • How to Select Trailer Weight Distribution System Based on Trailer Loaded Tongue Weight
  • Weight distribution systems are sensitive to the actual tongue weight (TW) load on them. We offer a handy scale # 5780 that takes the guesswork out of determining your loaded trailer TW. The TW figure you need to be concerned with consists of the actual measured trailer TW when it is fully-loaded with all your supplies plus the weight of any cargo in the tow vehicle that sits behind the rear axle, such as a generator or loaded cooler. The ideal situation is that this combined total TW...

  • We list the Pro Series Weight Distribution System w Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # PS49904 as a system you cannot back up with because of the friction bar. The manufacturer has told us that backing up with the friction bar installed is not allowed and can damage the bar and that is why they use the easy release pin for the rear connection point. You can use the system without the sway control, but I recommend just easily removing the sway bar when you will...

  • Comparison of Weight Distribution Systems That Do and Do Not Allow Backing Up
  • Some weight distribution (WD) systems do not allow you to back up the trailer with their friction control bars connected; these simply require you to first release the sway control. Other systems that use different methods for sway control do allow you to back up the trailer without having to do this. As examples, Pro Series system # PS49904 does NOT allow backing up while Reese Strait-Line system # RP66083 does. The key to choosing a WD system is to know your setup's fully loaded...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch To Pull 32 ft Fleetwood Travel Trailer
  • To determine if your 2011 Toyota Tundra can pull your 32 ft travel trailer, you will need to find the towing capacity of your Tundra and the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the trailer to determine if you can tow the trailer safely. You will want to check your owners manual to verify the rating. Based on my research it looks like your Fleetwood may have a dry weight of 6400 lbs and 860 lbs hitch weight. • Installing the Chain Hangers for the Pro Series # PS49904 Weight Distribution
  • Typically a Weight Distribution (WD) system will recommend that the brackets for the chain hangers be installed somewhere between 26" - 30" from the hitch ball. Although the instructions for the Pro Series # PS49904 says to setup the head and the arms to use as a guide you can take a guess since the bars are 31-1/4" long. • Pro Series Weight Distribution Makes a Lot of Noise when Towing Trailer with 2008 Chevy Silverado
  • On chain hanging systems like Pro Series weight distribution # PS49904 there should be 5 chain links from the bracket to the spring bar. The fewer the chain links the more tension the spring bars will have. If there is too much tension then it can damage the system or the trailer but is unlikely to harm the vehicle. It sounds like the system was not set up properly, the rise or drop is not adequate to tow the trailer level, or the system is not properly rated for the trailer weight....

This won't be the best system for your application.
